Antonina Bonfini
Resident Antonina "Lena" Bonfini died Dec. 4, 2004 in Fountain Hills. She was 95.
Mrs. Bonfini was born Sept. 26, 1909 in Newark, N.J. and worked as a hand stitcher in the clothing garment industry.
Mrs. Bonfini is survived by one son, Emidio "Emil" Bonfini of Nevada; two daughters, Palma "Pam" Tancordo of California and Rosemarie Consentino (Americo) of Arizona; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a niece, Sally Dilotta of New Jersey. She was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Dilotta.
Visitation was held Dec. 6 at Messinger Mortuary Fountain Hills, with services held Dec. 7 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Scottsdale. Interment was at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 92nd Street and Shea Boulevard, Scottsdale.
Eileen Fulmer Kiep
Eileen Fulmer Kiep died Nov. 30, 2004 after losing her battle with cancer.
Eileen had lived in Fountain Hills for almost nine years and in the Valley for 25. She worked for many years at Bank One in Fountain Hills and Bank of America in Scottsdale.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Kiep of Fountain Hills; her son, Eric Guttersrud and grandson, Justin Guttersrud both of Phoenix.
A memorial service was held Friday, Dec. 3, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.
Cecil L. Kirtley
Cecil "Lee" Leland Kirtley, 91, of Fountain Hills died Nov. 21, 2004 at Glencroft Care Center in Glendale.
Mr. Kirtley was born May 7, 1913 in Pueblo, Colo. He was a butcher by trade.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the Benevolent Order of Elks and the National Rifleman’s Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Simone Kirtley in 2003, and his first wife, Anita Kirtley. He is survived by one son, Timothy Kirtley of Juneau, Alaska; two daughters, Judith Doroudh (Buddy), of Alta Loma, Calif., and Stephanie Weise (Pete) of Upland, Calif.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Ralph Knight
Ralph Knight, who came to Fountain Hills in 1977, died of cancer at the age of 83 on Nov. 30, 2004.
He was a member of the Fountain Hills Sheriff’s Posse of Maricopa County from 1979 to 1987. He also served on the Fountain Hills Road Districts Board in the 1980s prior to incorporation.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, of 62 years. A service was held Dec. 6 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.

Edward Light
Edward Leslie Light, 65, of Fountain Hills died Dec. 19, 2004.
He was born Aug. 5, 1939 in Fayeville, Ill. to Lillian Leota Tupper Light and Guy Edward Light.
Edward is survived by his brother, a long-time pioneer of Fountain Hills, Eldon E. (Alda) Light.
He will be greatly missed by a large and loving family and many friends.
Genevieve Fuzat
Genevieve M. T. Fuzat, 81, of Fountain Hills, passed away on Feb. 2, 2004 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea. She was born Feb. 10, 1922 in Perpignan, France.
Mrs. Fuzat, a homemaker, was a parishioner of Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills. She is survived by her husband, Guy Fuzat; sons, Alain Fuzat (Marilyn) of Scottsdale and Bernard Fuzat (Jackie) of Mesa; daughter, Dominique Collins of Scottsdale; brother, Jean George of France; sister, Simone Fournie of France; as well as six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, located at 12065 N. Saguaro Blvd. in Fountain Hills.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m. at Church of the Ascension, located at 12615 N. Fountain Hills Blvd.
Interment will be at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 92nd St. and Shea Blvd., in Scottsdale.
Dick Middleton
Dick Middleton, the humorous, honest, caring and loving father, husband and friend of many, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004 in his Fountain Hills home in Arizona. He was 66 and surrounded by loved ones when he crossed over.
Dick is survived by his wife, three sons, two daughter in-laws, two grandsons and a ton of friends. "We're all sad to see him go," his family said. "There were a lot of people who knew Dick and loved him dearly. He was a really intelligent, fun and considerate man."
Dick was diagnosed with lung cancer last August, but he kept his spirit and jokes up through the end. His humor was always witty, clean, smart and refreshing. He enjoyed his final months with family and friends at his cabin in Wisconsin, summer home in Idaho and finally at his winter home in Arizona.
Many people came to visit and share laughs with him before he left.
Dick was born on Aug. 22, 1937. He retired 7 years early at the age of 57 from a job he enjoyed at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota for 27 years and couldn’t have been happier with his decision after the cancer was discovered.
He and his wife, Vreny, just completed building a beautiful cabin home on their 10 acres of ponderosa pine covered land where elk and deer would come right up to the house. He loved that he didn’t find out about the cancer until it was too late, as they would most likely not have built their dream place in Idaho.
He elected to forego chemotherapy in favor of better quality of life in his final months.
Dick thoroughly enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, building and fixing things and time with family and friends. He loved to build and fix things around the home and was a handy man at heart.
On his final fishing trip, he caught a beautiful 31-inch native steelhead in Riggins, Idaho while fishing with his boys and a brother-in-law.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.
Gregory Phillips
Gregory Wayne Phillips, 68, of Fountain Hills passed away peacefully Feb. 1, 2004 at the Ecstein Center in Scottsdale with his family at his side after a long battle with cancer.
Born in McComb, Okla. and raised in Tulare, Calif., he was a resident of Fountain Hills for more than 21 years.
He was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 28 years as a lieutenant colonel.
He was a member of the Order of Daedalians, American Legion Post in Fountain Hills, Elks Club, Air Force Association, Military Officers Association of America, Helicopter Pilots Association and Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Phillips of Fountain Hills; daughters, Sherri Wasserzug (Al) of Louisville, Ky., Donna Kniffen (Howard) of Scottsdale and Robyn Becher (Stephen) of Fountain Hills; brothers, Dennis Phillips (Bessie) of Modesto, Calif., Grant Phillips (Marilou) of Sparks, Nev. and James Phillips (Jean) of Wilseyville, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be held today, Feb. 4 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, 12065 N. Saguaro Blvd., with a service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church, 13001 N. Fountain Hills Blvd.
Interment will be at Paradise Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale.

June Eileen Dietrich
June Eileen Dietrich, 79, of Fountain Hills passed away on March 29, 2004, at Fountain View Village Skilled Nursing in Fountain Hills.
Mrs. Dietrich, a school secretary, was born on Oct. 11, 1924, in Hammond, Ind.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Dean Dietrich, of Fountain Hills; her son, Ronald Dean Dietrich of Gaithersburg, Md.; her daughter, Susan Elaine Marrs, of South Lake Tahoe, Nev. as well as by two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 3, 2004, at 1 p.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.

Sherry L. Furdiga
Sherry L. Furdiga, 61, of Phoenix, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with ALS on March 27, 2004 at home with her loving husband holding her hands and her three children by her side.
She was born in Meadeville, PA on June 10, 1942. She married Leon Furdiga on Nov. 9, 1968 and together they raised three children. In November 1977, Sherry and Leon moved to Fountain Hills, AZ to begin their life in the Southwest. She was a homemaker and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Fountain Hills.
All who encountered Sherry will remember her warm personality, loving and generous nature, infectious laugh and her ability to make one feel welcome.
A devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, she will be missed by all. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Leon Furdiga, three children, Pamela Kuchan (Bill) of Prescott, AZ; Shawn (Jerrie) Furdiga of Cave Cree, AZ; and Dawn Furdiga of Los Angeles, CA. Three grandchildren, Ryan and Justin Kuchan, and Mason Furdiga. Her father, Stanley Shea, and brother Donald (Nancy) Shea of Meadville, PA. A loving niece, Wendy (Kevin) Oliver of St. Louis, MO. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 3 at 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Fountain Hills, 10215 N. Saguaro Blvd. in Fountain Hills.

Hammand (Ham) Hauck
Hammand (Ham) Hauck, 81, of Fountain Hills died March 29, 2004.
Hauck was born on March 17, 1923 in Philadelphia, Penn.
During WWII he served in the Army Signal Corp in Iran. Upon return he married Jean Feb. 10, 1945.
Hauck worked for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, N.Y. for 40 years.
Upon retirement he moved to Fountain Hills 23 years ago. He so enjoyed Fountain Hills including the golf and the area.
He is survived by his wife Jean, son Bruce Hauck (Judy), daughter Nancy Wheeler (Ron) five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Services were at Church of the Ascension Tuesday, March 30.

Jeffrey W. Minich
Jeffrey W. Minich, 49, of Fountain Hills passed away on March 27, 2004. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on Oct. 30, 1954.
Mr. Minich, an operations manager for Bank of America, was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mr. Minich is survived by his parents, Michael and Lois Minich of Fountain Hills; his brother, Michael Minich of Livonia Mich.; and nephews Jason and Scott Minich, also of Livonia.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 31, from 4 to 6 p.m., with scripture service at 5:30 p.m., at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary. Interment will follow at Glen Eden cemetery in Livonia, Mich.

Marie J. Perini
Marie J. Perini, 86, passed away on March 19, 2004. Mrs. Perini was born Feb. 19, 1918.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Lido, who was also a neighbor of hers for 12 years in Corona, N.Y.
Mrs. Perini is also survived by her daughter Linda Ferington and son-in-law James Ferington as well as granddaughter Natalie Towne. Son Raymond, daughter-in-law Carole, grandson Nicolas and granddaughter Joanna also survive her.
Although physically small, Marie was a giant in love and understanding. Anyone who met her never forgot her smile of love and understanding.
Marie didn’t have an easy life. She had to quit high school in the first year because the depression caused her father to lose his job as a construction worker on the Empire State Building. She had to go to work to help support the family.
At the death of her father at the age of 48, being new in the social security system, the family was not eligible for any benefits. This made it even more urgent that she continued to work and she sacrificed her education to support her family.
By 1942, a younger sister, Molly, was married and her younger brother, Nicholas, reached working age, relieving Marie of the family burden.
In 1942, Lido and Marie were married. They had little money but they both worked until the children came and then Marie stayed home to raise the children. It was never a rich family but it was a family surrounded by love.
Through her wise money management, the family finally achieved middle-income status. It was always and is today a family full of love for one another and that is the richness of their lives.
She now goes to rest leaving a void that cannot be filled except that we have the assurance that this love of ours will continue beyond the grave and into eternity. This seed of love was planted in New York City and extended to Arizona and will go beyond the grave and into eternity.
This is from Lido Honey, I do not what lies beyond the grave but I do know that you are waiting for me preparing my place beside you. In that promised land that the good Lord has promised awaits us in the heavens.

Robert Madura
Robert Andrew Madura, 86, of Fountain Hills died April 12, 2004.
Born July 20, 1917 in Hammond, Ind., he worked as a welder during his adult career.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet.
Survivors include his son, Robert Madura (Sylvia) of Fountain Hills; brother, John Madura (Julie) of Knox, Ill.; and sister, Violet Ryan of Union Mills, Ind.
