Dorothy Kroeger
Dorothy Elizabeth Kroeger, 87, died Aug. 17, 2003 at Fountain View Village in Fountain Hills. She was born in South Bend, Indiana, on Feb. 25, 1916, to Charles and Frances Ritter.
In 1938, Dorothy was married to Dr. John W. Kroeger, who preceded her in death by less than 10 weeks. They had been married for 65 years.
Dorothy was a homemaker and loving mother to five children who survive her; John Kroeger (Sharon), Phoenix; Michael Kroeger (Miriam), Phoenix; Carolyn Waldron (William), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Kathryn Anderson (Jerry), Fountain Hills; and James Kroeger (Sue), Ft. Wayne, Indiana; and a sister, Henrietta Fanelli, Evanston, Illinois.
She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Two additional great great grandchildren predeceased her.
Together, Dorothy and John made their home in Philadelphia, Pa.; Larchmont, New York; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Worthington, Ohio; before moving to Arizona. They retired to Cave Creek in 1983. Dorothy, with her husband, was an active member of Our Lady of Joy Catholic Church in Carefree and was involved with a highly successful program to baptize large groups of children of the Hispanic community in Cave Creek.
In December 2001, Dorothy and her husband, John, were among the first residents to move to the assisted care facility at Fountain View Village in Fountain Hills. After moving to Fountain Hills, she became a member of the Church of the Ascension Catholic community.
Dorothy died at home at Fountain View Village after a long struggle with emphysema. She was 87.
A memorial Mass to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be said by Father John Vogt on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. at the Four Peaks Prayer Chapel, Room A50, in the Independent Living Wing of Fountain View Village, 16455 Avenue of the Fountains. A short prayer service will follow at Holy Redeemer cemetery.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Our Lady of Joy Church, Carefree.
Arthur R. Back
Arthur Back of Fountain Hills died Monday, April 11. He was born Jan. 26, 1932 in Chicago, Ill.
He retired from Illinois Bell in 1992 and had been a resident of Fountain Hills since 1993. He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, The Club, The Square Club, and past member of the Library Association board.
Mr. Back is survived by his wife Joy; a brother, Bill (Judy) of Valparaiso, Ind.; daughters Julie (Steve) Zelasko of Fountain Hills, Lisa (Dean) Ubik of Chicago; sons Thomas of Phoenix and William of Reno, Nev.; and four grandchildren, Andrew and Allison Zelasko and Katharine and Anthony Ubik.
Services were held Friday, April 15, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
Don Blasingame
Former Major League Baseball player Don "Blazer" Blasingame, who also managed professional baseball teams in Japan, died April 13, 2005 at his Fountain Hills home.
The 73-year-old died of heart failure.
Blasingame, primarily a second baseman, played 12 years in the major leagues beginning in 1955 with the St. Louis Cardinals. He went on to play with the San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Senators and Kansas City Athletics, batting .258 for his career.
He led the National League in singles in 1959 with 144.
He joined Japan’s now defunct Nankai Hawks in 1967, playing as a second baseman for three years until 1969, when he joined the team’s coaching staff. He stayed there through 1977.
Blasingame then moved to the Hiroshima Carp for one year as manager in 1978.
In 1979 and 1980, Blasingame led the Hanshin Tigers, a popular club based in Nishinomiya in western Japan as manager. He then returned to the Carp from 1981 to 1982.
Carol Mae Blackman
Carol Mae Blackman was born on Sept. 26, 1944, in Detroit, Mich.
Carol lived in Michigan with her parents Bob and Mary Metz and older brother Gary until they moved to Ohio when Carol was a small tot.
Carol accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord at a Youth for Christ rally when she was a young girl.
Carol graduated from Libbey High School in Toledo, Ohio in 1962.
Carol met John Blackman at the Detroit Avenue Wesleyan Church when she was 12 and he was 14. John and Carol began dating while Carol was a senior in high school. They were married on Aug. 20, 1965.
Carol gave birth to their first son, Rodney James Blackman, Nov. 16, 1966. Carol gave birth to their second son, Shane Eric Blackman, on July 11, 1971.
Carol received a Bachelor’s Degree from Houghton College in August 1969 and a Master’s Degree in counseling from Liberty University in May 1993. John’s work took them on a journey of numerous moves, having lived in Ohio, Indiana, New York, California, Iowa and Arizona.
Carol is survived by her husband John, her two sons Rod and Shane, her brother Gary and her stepmother Betty and ailing father Bob.
Carol was ushered into the loving arms of Jesus her Lord on the morning of April 25, 2005, after suffering from nearly five months of a severe stroke.
Alyssa Kovash
Beloved daughter and sister Alyssa Kovash died April 18, 2005 at the tender age of 20 years young after she was critically wounded during a robbery in New Orleans, La.
Alyssa and a friend were attacked by two young men and had their purses stolen. Alyssa’s friend was not harmed and an arrest has been made in the attack.
Alyssa and her family are former Fountain Hills residents and have many friends in the community.
Alyssa was living in New Orleans and working to save money to attend medical school with a goal of becoming a medical technician or radiologist.
She is survived by her loving parents, Shane and Gina Kovash of Naples, Fla. and her two sisters, Shaena and Brianna.
Loving friends and family will come together for her memorial service on Thursday, May 5, at St. Andrew’s Church in Cape Coral, Fla.
A memorial scholarship fund has been set up in Alyssa’s name. The family is asking that any memorial contributions be made to this scholarship fund. Information about the scholarship will be coming soon.
The family offers its sincere thanks to the New Orleans Police Department, Crime Stoppers and their generous contributors and the entire staff of Charity Hospital, New Orleans, for their assistance, concern and prayers throughout the ordeal.
Walter Moore
Walter Mathew Moore, 73, a resident of Clear Lake, Minn. and Fountain Hills, beloved husband, father, grandfather, neighbor, veteran, coffee buddy and friend, died early Sunday, April 10, 2005 surrounded by family at his home in Clear Lake while listening to his favorite music.
He was preceded in death by parents, two sisters and three brothers; survived by loving wife, Ramona, of nearly 50 years; devoted father to Denise Edgett of Woodbury, Minn., Kevin (Roxanne) Moore of Maplewood, Minn., Dawn (Brian) Turnblad of White Bear Lake, Minn. and Darcie Moore of Minneapolis.
He was the adored grandfather of six grandsons, Brandon and Brent Edgett, Matt and Peter Moore, and Josh and Ben Turnblad; also survived by sisters Mary Wernecke of Fountain Hills, Cora Thorburn of Mesa, Louise (Paul Gammon) of Ames, Iowa, Gloria Simco of Mesa, Karen (Blair) Hawn, of Glendale and sister-in-law Mary Lou Moore of Clearwater, Fla.
Retired president and 34-year employee of Muska Electric Company in Roseville, Minn., Walter was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and graduate of Dunwoody Institute.
An avid outdoorsman, Walt was most happy when exploring the wildlife of the Mississippi River with his faithful companion, "White Dog" or riding his John Deere tractor.
Friends and family will miss his quick wit, determination, integrity, generous heart and love for life, yet take solace that his suffering has ended.
A memorial service was held April30 at Daniel Funeral Home, Clearwater, Minn.

William Sexton
William D. Sexton, 79, of Fountain Hills died April 27, 2005 at Fountain View Village.
Born Aug. 18, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked as a service representative for document machines during his adult career.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Fountain Hills; sons, Daniel Sexton of San Antonio, Texas and James Sexton of Worthington, Ohio; daughter, Margaret Yarak of Palo Alto, Calif.; a brother, John of La Jolla, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Monday, May 2, at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills.

Cecile Catherine Storer
Cecile Catherine Storer, 94, died Saturday, April 30, 2005 in Payson.
Cecile was a wife, a mother, grandmother, a professional woman – but she will be best remembered for her amazing charity and kindness to all.
Cecile was born Nov. 25, 1910 in Minnesota into a farming family. After high school she became a beautician in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and she married Alfred Storer.
Due to circumstances during World War II they could not find a house to rent. Cecile would not be beat. She bought a lot and had a house built. Then she started Storer Realty, the business that launched her success. Her husband was the broker of their realty business and they worked together to make a good life for their family.
In 1952, Cecile and Alfred Storer sold their business I Minnesota and moved to Phoenix. There they continued their real estate business and started a construction business.
The couple also owned the Four Peaks Amethyst Mine for 10 years. They owned the House of Amethyst in Scottsdale, Florida and Mexico. Two years ago, Cecile opened her House of Amethyst in Payson next to her daughter’s Art and Antique Corral."
Amid her demanding days of business Cecile took time for two hobbies, fishing and rock hunting.
In her nearly 95 years, Cecile saw many changes in the world, but one remained constant – the less fortunate doing without.
Her family remembers her as a "philanthropist from the heart." She gave extensively to many needy families. She made sure they had the necessities: a home, food and clothing.
Cecile was a very private person and did not seek recognition for what she did. She helped the people she met along life’s path.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Storer and her son, Paul Storer. She is survived by her daughter, Sue Malinski of Payson; six grandchildren, Allen Storer of Minnesota, Stephanie Storer and Cindy Magestro of California, Andy Malinski of Payson, Kenny Malinski of California and Randy Malinski of Phoenix; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; and her brother Milo (June) Kline of Fountain Hills.
She left her family the example of patience, kindness, and charity.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 4, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home Chapel, 4800 East Indian School Road. The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2005 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 7655 E. Main Street, Scottsdale. Interment will follow at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 9300 E. Shea Blvd. Scottsdale.

Robert Wortman
Robert G. Wortman, 78, of Fountain Hills died April 28, 2005 at Fountain View Village.
Born Aug. 8, 1926 in Ponca City, Okla., Mr. Wortman was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked as a teacher during his adult career.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Fountain Hills; sister-in-law, Sister Virginia Beene of Dayton, Ohio; sister, JoeAnn Errigo of Sunnyslope; niece, Sharon Metzler of Scottsdale; and nephews Keith, Vince and Mike Errigo, all of Phoenix.
A graveside service was held May 3 at the National Memorial cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Fountain View Village, extended care unit activity fund, in Fountain Hills.
Theodore Aalderink
Theodore W. "Ted" Aalderink, 69, of Arizona, formerly of Holland, Mich. died May 3, 2005 at Hospice House of Holland.
Mr. Aalderink lived in Phoenix nine years, Fountain Hills for 20 years and Clarkdale for 13 years before moving to Holland, Mich. in February of 2004.
Mr. Aalderink was employed as an electronic technician at Honeywell and General Electric for 25 years. He also worked for Lockheed Martin for five years.
Mr. Aalderink also served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Gerritt Schmit, in 1997.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Greta; daughters, Roxann and Steve Schmit of Auburn, Wash. and Rhonda and Shane Phillips of Cole Camp, Mo.; seven grandchildren; step-mother, Marie Van Dyke of Holland; and two sisters, LaVerle and Morris Peerbolt of Holland and Janet and Gene Boerman of Holland.
Also, step-sister Myra and Al Van Beek of Edgewater Beach, Fla.; step-brothers, Dale and Betty Mulder of Grand Ledge, Mich., Glenn and Carol Mulder of Lansing, Mich. and Lyle and Mary Mulder of Holland; and father-in-law, Henry H. Bouwman of Holland.
Other surviving in-laws are Stuart and Emily Bouwman of Holland, Judy and Jarvis Van Klompenberg of Holland, Lloyd and Rose Bouwman of Holland, Marlene Ramirez of Holland, Terry and Darlene Bouwman of Holland, Patty and Mike Van Bragt of Allegan, Mich. and Kathy and Jeff Youngberg of Glendale, Ariz.
A funeral service was held May 6 at Notier-Ver Lee-Langeland Funeral Chapel in Holland. Burial was at Graafschap cemetery.

‘Rocky’ Dziepak
Vincent "Rocky" M. Dziepak, 50, of Scottsdale died May 1, 2005.
Rocky was active in the community of Fountain Hills in the real estate field and veterans’ activities.
He is survived by his mother, Mildred Dziepak of Keyport, N.J.; brother, Walter A. Dziepak (Pamela) of Princeton, N.J.; sister, Lynn Gallagher (Terry) of Scotch Plains, N.J.; and nieces Danielle Dziepak, Shannon Gallagher and Erin Gallagher.
Visitation and a funeral service were held at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.
Patricia Peifer
Patricia Keller Peifer, 84, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Fountain Hills and Northbrook, Ill. died April 19, 2005 at her home.
Mrs. Peifer was born March 10, 1921 in Hamilton, Ohio. She was a graduate of Northwestern University, where she met her husband, Lawrence Tice "Casey" Peifer. Together they raised five children in Northbrook, in a happy, busy and loving home. The Peifers retired to Fountain Hills in 1984.
As a young woman, Mrs. Peifer played golf and raced sailboats near her family’s summer home in Walloon Lake, Mich. An accomplished artist, she enjoyed drawing and painting and later taught art to children at Northwestern Settlement House in Chicago.
She was active as a volunteer for the Northbrook School District 28 PTOs, Friends of the Northbrook Public Library and Children’s Home and Aid Society of Illinois.
Mrs. Peifer was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, the Northbrook Village Church and Westmoreland Country Club. In Arizona the Peifers were members of the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church and Desert Canyon Golf Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995. She is survived by her five children: Carolyn "Doatsy" Peifer of Aurora, Colo., Chris (Susan) Peifer of Tampa, Fla., Charles (Cynthia) Peifer of Princeton, N.J., Andrew Peifer (Eileen Hay) of San Diego, and Elizabeth (Michael) Cohen of Deerfield, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held this summer. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
