Scott F. Hansen
A memorial service for Scott F. Hansen will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at 3:30 p.m. at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church, 13001 N. Fountain Hills Blvd.
Survivors include his father, Fred; stepmother, Barbara; bothers, Christopher (Laura) and Craig (Wendy) Hansen of Tallahassee, Fla.; grandmother Blanche Hansen of Las Vegas, Nev.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Scott was blessed with good friends and caregivers. He passed away Friday, Sept. 30, as a result of an accidental drowning.
He was born in Westwood, N.J. on Aug. 26, 1961. He is the son of Fred J. and Nancy (deceased) Hansen and was educated in Tallahassee, Fla.
In 1979, he was injured in an automobile accident that brought about his epilepsy. He resided at Fiesta Village, an assisted living home in Phoenix.
A reception for family and friends will be held in the church social center immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Josephine Bambalas
Josephine Bambalas, 86, of Fountain Hills died Dec. 12, 2005 in Fountain Hills.
She was born Feb. 28, 1919 in Cicero, Ill. and she worked as a secretary for the Sunbeam Corp. She was a member of the Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills.
Mrs. Bambalas is survived by one son, John Bambalas (Carol) of Naperville, Ill.; two daughters, Michelle Tamasiunas (Peter) of New River, Ariz., and Joann Demski (Ted) of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; a sister, Geraldine Michalski of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services for Mrs. Bambalas were held Friday, Dec. 16, at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills. Interment is at St. Casmir cemetery in Chicago, Ill.
The family is requesting memorial contributions to Hospice of the Valle, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Llona Lathrop Lindstrom
Llona Lathrop Lindstrom, 87, of Fountain Hills died Dec. 15 at Fountain View Village.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1918 in Minneapolis. She graduated from Minneapolis Central High School and attended Stephen’s College in Missouri.
Llona married John Lindstrom, an architect, in 1941 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. John accepted a job in Hawaii, and the young couple were heading there when Pearl Harbor was bombed. Their plans quickly changed, and they ended up going to Pine Bluff, Arkansas instead. During the war they lived and worked in Pine Bluff, Princeton, New Jersey and Edmunton, Alberta. While John worked as a Civilian in Uniform in the South Pacific, Llona returned to Minneapolis to wait for him.
After the war John joined the firm of Magney, Tussler and Setter in Minneapolis. He was later made a partner and the firm was renamed Setter, Leach and Lindstrom. John and Llona started a family, and moved to the Minneapolis suburb of Minnetonka in 1949. They lived there until they moved to Fountain Hills in the early 80s.
In addition to raising two daughters, Llona was involved in the American Field Service International student exchange program. The Lindstroms hosted a high school student from India, Anuradha Rao, in 1966 and 1967. Llona went on to become the head of the greater Minneapolis chapter of AFS. She greatly enjoyed working with the host students and their American host families.
When the Lindstroms moved to Fountain Hills, Llona became a volunteer at what is now Scottsdale Healthcare Shea. Eventually she was the head of the volunteers in the Radiology Department.
Llona was a member of the Friends in the Hills Welcome Club, and was active in the club until shortly before her death.
Llona is survived by her daughter and son in law, Ann Lindstrom and Brian Hinel of Fountain Hills, and her sister and brother in law, Coralie and Bob Enersen of Largo, Florida. In addition she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1995, and brother Donald Lathrop.
Llona is remembered by her family and friends as a beautiful and gracious woman who was truly interested in other people. She was also known for her great sense of humor.
Llona requested that there be no memorial service. She will be cremated, and her ashes will join John’s on Four Peaks. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to MIT Alumni Fund, Room W92-280, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 77 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, MA 02139-4307.
David Alan Lorenz
David Alan Lorenz, 34, of Rockford, Mich. died suddenly on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005.
He is survived by his parents, Rolland and Jean Lorenz of Fountain Hills, formerly of Williamston, Mich.
Services for David Alan Lorenz were held Dec. 17, 2005 in Williamston, Mich.
Ellen Carol Moyer
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, Ellen Carol Moyer left us for a much better place. She was, and is, a true angel of God; anyone who knew her will attest to that. Thankfully she did not suffer long from her liver cancer. She had been at Fountain View Village in Fountain Hills, for two months.
She was born in Akron, Ohio on Nov 20, 1918. Her parents were both school teachers but her father later became a medical doctor – the classic country doctor often paid with livestock. Her brother was also a doctor.
Being very bright, Carol skipped two years of school and graduated from high school at the age of 16.
Having incredible finger dexterity and the gift of "perfect pitch," she was a child prodigy in music playing the cello and piano.
At age 18 she sang and played piano in the big bands of the era, mostly in the south. (Her stage name was Darlene Dell which she never revealed to anyone).
She attended East Central State Teachers College in Ada, Okla., where she performed in Shakespearian plays on tour.
In the early 1940s, she was a radio dispatcher for TWA Airlines.
In February 1943, she married Gilbert Moyer Sr., who was a flight instructor and fighter pilot for the Air Force (Gil preceded her in death in March, 2004).
In 1945 they moved to Arizona, and in 1948 settled at their life long home in Coolidge. In 1948 she became a CAA (FAA) licensed private pilot, and in 1953 a licensed commercial pilot. She also flight instructed and was a licensed meteorology and navigation ground instructor.
And for over 40 years, was bookkeeper for her husband’s crop-dusting business as well as a homemaker.
Her first love, however, was always music; for over 50 years she taught many people how to play the piano and organ as well as played for many churches and special occasions.
Always quiet and shy, Carol never talked about herself unless pressed; to her, everyone else came first. She did not have a mean bone in her body, and trusted everybody.
Again a true angel she will be sorely missed by her family and those who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Gilbert Moyer Jr. (Jay), and daughter-in-law Linda Moyer – residents of Fountain Hills for 17 years.
As she reads this from heaven, it’s doubtful she’s too pleased with the author…but the truth had to get out sometime.
She requested no services, but any donations in her name could be given to Hospice of the Valley, 5111 N. Scottsdale Rd., Suite 108, Scottsdale, Arizona 85250; or to the Salvation Army.
Frank Fox Stone
Frank Fox Stone (91), a 20- year resident of Fountain Hills, passed away after a short illness, Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Frank was born in Hatfield, Ark. Jan. 1, 1914. He was born at the stroke of midnight and was listed in Who’s Who of America. He was the second youngest of eight brothers and sisters.
He enlisted in 1934 in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist’s Mate 2nd class, he served on the USS Balch and the USS Lexington. His tour of duty overseas during World War II included Pearl Harbor and the New Hebrides Islands currently New Caledonia.
He married his childhood sweetheart Nov. 19, 1938 Melba Nadine Crandall in Hannibal, Mo. and moved to San Diego, Calif.
Frank was promoted to Warrant Officer and served in the California National Guard from 1959-1963 at which time he transferred to the US Army Reserve.
He attended and graduated from the US Army Ordinance School in Aberdeen, Maryland and was ultimately promoted to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer W-4. He retired January 1974. Frank was also retired from the US Postal Service after 45 years.
Frank lived most of his adult life in the San Diego area where is lived with his wife and two children. He was active in sports especially baseball as he had played in the minor leagues for the St Louis Cardinals in his early years.
He coached T-Ball, softball and baseball for the area youth. He swam, bowled, boated, camped and fished as well as snow skied well into his 70s.
Frank was also active in the Chula Vista Lions Club and served on their board for over 10 years.
After graduating from Motel Management Training School, Frank and Melba moved to Oahu, Hawaii for several years before retiring in Lake Tahoe, Calif.
He worked as a maintenance/warehouse supervisor for the Sahara Tahoe to keep busy for a number of years.
After the death of his wife, Frank pursued their dream of traveling around the country in a motor home and enjoyed just seeing the sights, fishing, camping and serving as campground host around the country prior to settling in Fountain Hills full time with his daughter and family.
He moved to Fountain View Assisted Living in February 2004.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol Ann Peterson, son-in-law Thomas Peterson and his beloved Dobermans "Becky and Anna" of Fountain Hills, grandson Corey Shult and wife Holly and his only great grand-daughter, Hailey of Kodak, Tenn.
His son, Gary Stone lives in Las Vegas, Nev. Other relatives Phil, Jackie and Tonya Crandall reside in Moberly, Mo. and his only living sister Valera Musselman (90) of Brownell, Kansas.
Frank was laid to rest on Dec. 10, 2005 next to his beloved wife Melba Nadine who preceded him in death, at the Oakland cemetery in Moberly, Mo.
Pastor Jim Walker, a retired military chaplain officiated at the graveside service that was held with full-military honors. Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary and Million Taylor Funeral Home in Moberly were in charge of arrangements.
The family requests in lieu of flowers-donations are made to Hospice of the Valley.
Ben R. Johnson
Ben R. Johnson of Fountain Hills passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005.
A memorial service and interment will be held in Bartlesville, Okla.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
Ernest L. Martin, Jr.
Ernest Lynne Martin, Jr., 75, of Fountain Hills died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005 in Scottsdale.
Mr. Martin was born May 6, 1930 in Bloomington, Ind.
Ernest graduated from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, N.M. in 1952 and graduated from Indiana University with a PhD in 1956. He was employed by Shell Oil Co. in a laboratory in Houston, Texas and a refinery at Norco, La. in a management position.
He retired to Fountain Hills in 1994.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife Ruby (Pat) Mann Martin; a daughter Joan Louise Martin (Stephen); and son, James Stephen Martin; and four grandchildren, Robert Martin Kopera, Charles Micheal Kopera, Alexis Lauren Martin and Alexandra Elizabeth Martin.
Services were held Monday, Dec. 26, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, with visitation just prior to the service.
Interment is at Paradise Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale.
Margaret E. Ferguson
Margaret Esther Ferguson of Rio Verde died Saturday, Nov. 15, in Phoenix. She was 82.
Mrs. Ferguson was born Jan. 23, 1921 in McKeesport, Penna. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Ferguson is survived by her husband, C. Keith Ferguson of Rio Verde; two sons, Stuart (Betty) Ferguson of Phoenix, and Charles K. Ferguson, Jr. of New Orleans; two daughters, Laurel -Le (Harry) Lipski of New York, and Le-Lane (David) McCarty of Clarkston, Mich.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held for Mrs. Ferguson.

George Bock
George Lewis Bock, 73, died Nov. 13, 2003 at his Fountain Hills residence.
Born June 6, 1930 in Jersey City, N.J., Mr. Bock worked as an electrical engineer in the telecommunications industry during his adult career.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemarie Bock of Fountain Hills; sons, George L. Bock (Diana) of Sugarcreek, Ohio and Stephen J. Bock of Fountain Hills; sisters, Gloria and Dorothy, both of New Jersey; and four grandchildren, Joel, Shawn, Elana and George.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 15, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary. Interment was at National Memorial cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.

John Martinson
Ingvald John Martinson passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003 at the age of 91.
Ingvald, known as Ing or IJ to his friends, was born on Oct. 22, 1912 in Landa, N.D. Ingvald married Amy Cook in 1940 and moved to Upham, N.D., where he worked for the wildlife refuge for six years. Ingvald and his wife moved back to Landa, N.D., where he spent several years farming before he began his life work of building homes for families in and around Westhope, N.D.
In the early 1970s he and his wife Amy moved to Wahpeton, N.D. and later to Fargo to help his sons develop their own building contracting business.
In 1983 they moved to Phoenix, with their son’s business, living first in Scottsdale and then in Fountain Hills.
In his retirement Ingvald dedicated himself to woodworking. He built clocks, wooden crosses, toys, wood sculptures and wall hangings that now grace the homes of his children, grandchildren and friends.
Ingvald is survived by his wife Amy of 63 years; sister Helen Cleveland; five children, John (Janice), Gary (Ronna), Cheryl (Tom Kautz), Bruce (Lesley) and Kent (Mary); 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ingvald was a loving, gifted man who will long be remembered and always loved by his family and friends.
A celebration of Ingvald’s life will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Fountain Hills on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. Memorials are requested to the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church Columbarium Fund.
