Lloyd K. Everson Sr., 90, of Fountain Hills, formerly of Bismarck, N.D. died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007 in Fountain Hills.
A celebration of life will be held at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at 4 p.m.
Arrangements are being made by Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary and Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, N.D.
Joanne Melucci
Joanne Melucci, 63, of Fountain Hills passed away Jan. 20, 2008. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she moved to Arizona nine years ago.
A devoted wife and mother, she spent most of her career caring for others including teaching for the Fountain Hills School District and as a caregiver at Fountain View Village.
She always concerned herself with the happiness of others and was most adored for her selfless ways. She enjoyed being a grandmother above all.
She is survived by her mother, Louise Tammaro; husband, Dan; sons, Daniel and his wife, Miosoty, and Peter and his wife Rosairy; a brother, Alex Marino; a sister, Donna Marie Yaccarino; and four grandchildren, Daniel, Anabella, Hailey and Peter.
A memorial mass is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills.
Arrangements are entrusted to Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.
Helen McLucas Myers
In loving memory of Helen McLucas Myers, who was known as H.B. to her friends and family.
H.B. was born Feb. 6, 1920 in Ft. Wayne, Ind. and passed away on Jan. 18, 2008 in Fountain Hills.
H.B. and her husband, Mark, who died in 2006, moved to Fountain Hills in 1981. H.B. was active in her church and dedicated her life to her family and helping others.
H.B. is survived by her son, Mac, and daughter-in-law, Sheila, who reside in Mancos, Colo.; her grandson, Mark Myers, and his wife, Catherine, and her great grandchildren, Cheyenne and Madison Myers who reside in Carbondale, Colo.; and her granddaughter, Jennifer Watkins, of Irvine, Calif.; and her brother, Don McLucas of Chicago.
H.B. touched many people during her life and her memory will live on in their hearts. We have all been blessed by having known her and will miss her loving kindness.
A memorial service to honor her life will be held at the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church on Friday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m.
Richard W. Sevier
Richard William “Dick” Sevier of Tonto Verde passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends on Jan. 13, 2008.
Dick was originally from Wichita, Kan. and was the son of Georgia Gaskill and William McKinley Sevier, both of whom predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his brother, John Everett Sevier, and his grandson, James Everett Thorp.
Dick received a degree in finance and economics from Memphis State University and completed the Tuck Graduate School of Business Administration and the Graduate School of Credit and Financial Management, both at Dartmouth College.
He spent 41 years in the oil industry in the credit/treasury divisions of Conoco, Inc. and Occidental Petroleum Corporation. While with Conoco he rose through the ranks of the treasury division. In the early 1960s he became the credit manager of Agrico Chemical Company, Memphis, Tenn., a Conoco subsidiary.
He was then moved back to Conoco in Ponco City, where he became manager of treasury services and credit.
In 1973 he was employed by Occidental Petroleum Corporation in Los Angeles where he spent 20 years as assistant treasurer and chief corporation credit officer, retiring in 1993.
Dick was very involved with numerous credit-related organizations, most notably the International Petroleum Credit Association of which he was president in 1989; the Credit Manager’s Association of California, which named him the Credit Executive of the Year in 1988; the Credit research Foundation of which he was vice chairman for five years and the National Association of Credit Management, which named him National Credit Executive of the Year for 1989.
Dick is survived by his wife, Judy M. Sevier of Tonto Verde; daughters Jayne Sevier Mouchet, Locust Grove, Ga.; Leslie Diane Sevier, Lompoc, Calif.; and son William Ford Sevier, Stillwater, Okla.; and grandchildren Sara Eden Thorp and John Everett Sevier.

Max Stalkup
On Jan. 17, 2008 Max Stalkup lost a very long and very courageous battle with heart disease. A celebration to honor and remember this wonderful man will be held at Highland Park Community Church in Casper, Wyo. on Jan. 23.
Max was born in Harrisburg, Ark. in 1932. He spent much of his adolescence traveling and working beside his father on farms or on construction crews throughout the Midwest and Colorado. He arrived in Casper in the late 1940s. In the 1950s Max decided to go into business for himself. He became one of the first dealers for Nissan automobiles. He was also one of the first marine and RV dealers in the state of Wyoming.
Throughout his career Max was involved in numerous enterprises, and in the 1970s he was proud to have his two sons join him in ventures that included a Honda automobile dealership, a Winnebago motor home franchise and an RV dealership. These enterprises expanded and continue to hold his legacy today.
Max retired in the late 1990s and with his wife, Marilyn, spent summers in Casper and the winter months in Fountain Hills.
He loved the outdoors, especially boating. He also rode snowmobiles, motorcycles and ATVs. He could hold his own on the golf course as well. He was a master storyteller, who forgot nothing, and a true and loyal friend.
Max is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marilyn; two sons, Ran and his wife, Amie, of Casper, Rod and his wife, Laura, of Casper; three daughters, Donna Boyd Stalkup of Casper, Jennifer Mooney and her husband, Mike, of Fountain Hills, and Mary Shaw and her husband, James of Cora, Wyo.; 11 grandchildren, Demar, Millie, Jessie, Brent, Kyle, April, Adam, Dylan, Max, Melinda and Brendon; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Aiden, Logan and Mallory; and one sister, Joanne Mallon of Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jerry Stalkup, and his first wife, Winnie Stalkup.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Thomas A. Beales
Mr. Tab Beales, 47, of Augusta, Ga. returned to the Lord on Feb. 22, 2008 at the Augusta V.A. Medical Center after a prolonged illness.
Mr. Beales was born and raised in Atlanta. He was a devoted husband, son, brother and friend. A military graveside service was held Feb. 27 in Decatur, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Beales. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Beales of Augusta; his mother, Frances Beales of Atlanta; two brothers, Al Beales and Bob Beales of Atlanta; and one sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Rick Erdenberger of Fountain Hills.
Mr. Beales served seven years in the U.S. Army prior to an injury and medical discharge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org). Rest well, little brother.

Alice V. Craig
Alice V. Craig, 89, of Rio Verde, died March 4, 2008 in Rio Verde.
She was born Sept. 20, 1918 in Buffalo, N.Y. and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Craig is survived by a large family including three sons, Stephen M. Craig (Corrine) of Rio Verde, Kenneth Craig and John Craig, both of Chicago; seven daughters, Cathy Drescher (Joseph) of Raleigh, N.C., Carol de Jong (Hans) of Scottsdale, Susan Blonsky (James) of Tampa, Fla., Mary Elhmahdy of Tucson, Jean Craig of Casa Grande, Julie Ho of Scottsdale and Ane Lane (Rich) of Raleigh, N.C.; one brother, Raymond Ochs of Clarence, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Craig will be held Thursday, March 13, at Lawrence D. Ginnane Funeral Home in Kenmore, N.Y. A funeral mass will be held Friday, March 14, at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Kenmore.
Final interment will be at Mount Olivet cemetery, Tonawanda Township, N.Y.
Florence (Coleman) Juliar
Born: February 14, 1903 Died: February 29, 2008
Florence Juliar was a special lady to all who knew her. She was born in Ashton, S. D. to George and Grace Coleman.
Florence was preceded in death by three younger siblings: brother Murray Coleman and sisters Maxine Nielsen Moore and Lenna L. Coover. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Growing up, Florence and her family lived in Eagle Grove, Iowa, and Hollywood, Calif., where she was friends with the wife of Charlie Chaplin.
Florence met her husband, Nicolas Juliar, attorney,while she was working as a secretary for Dr. Will Mayo prior to the founding of the Mayo Clinic. She lived near Mankato, Minn. for more than 60 years.
For the past several years Florence has lived at Fountain View Village in Fountain Hills where she was close to niece, Connie Lewis of Rio Verde,and nephew, Steve Coover of Fountain Hills.
She had a bright and loving spirit and was very active, never missing the daily work-out schedule. She had just celebrated her 105th birthday on Valentine’ Day, which made her the oldest living Fountain Hills resident at the time.
Always upbeat and positive, everyone who met her and worked with her at Fountain View Village loved her and will miss her.
Services were held in Minnesota at St. John’s cemetery, St. Clair, Minn. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
Paul Elias
Paul A. Elias passed away July 19, 2008 at a Hospice of the Valley home after a long illness.
He was a resident of Fountain Hills since 1982 and leaves behind his wife, Trudi, of 54 years; his daughter, Peggy Adams of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and son, Peter Elias of Scottsdale; and two granddaughters, Jennifer and Danielle, both of Pennsylvania.
Paul was born May 18, 1930, on the island of Java in Indonesia. He went to the University of Delft in The Netherlands and became a chemical engineer.
He moved to the U.S.A. and had several jobs and traveled all over the world. Paul enjoyed classical music, woodworking and photography and liked gardening. We will miss his great sense of humor.

Karl Kuehl
Karl Kuehl, 70, of Fountain Hills died Wednesday, Aug. 6, at a Scottsdale hospital.
He had a 53-year career in Major League Baseball making his mark as a teacher and scout in the game. He was the 2006 recipient of the Roland Hemond Award for work in scouting and player development.
Mr. Kuehl grew up in California and started playing baseball professionally in 1955. He became the youngest manager in professional baseball as player manager at Salem, Ore. at age 21 in 1955. His only stint as a Major League manager was for the Montreal Expos and ended after less than a full season and a 43-85 record in 1976.
After six years as a base coach with the Minnesota Twins Mr. Kuehl went on to the Oakland Athletics were he was head of player development and an assistant to the general manager.
While with Oakland, he oversaw the farm system that turned out three consecutive rookies of the year, Jose Canseco (1986), Mark McGwire (1987) and Walt Weiss (1988).
Other players who came out of the A’s farm system under his leadership included Terry Steinbach, Scott Brosius, Mike Bordick, Mike Gallego and Miguel Tejada.
Mr. Kuehl later worked with the Toronto Blue Jays and was with the Cleveland Indians as a special assistant to the general manager through the 2007 season.
Mr. Kuehl is also the author of two books about the mental side of the game of baseball. Those include The Mental Game of Baseball: a Guide to Peak Performance written with Harvey Dorfman and published in 1989, and Mental Toughness: Baseball’s Winning Edge, co-authored with his son, John and Casey Tefertiller in 2005.
His passion for helping players deal with the mental side of the game is believed to be his most enduring legacy in the game.
In addition to his son, John, Mr. Kuehl is survived by his wife, Norma; and daughters, Kara Neumann and Stefani Kuehl; six grandsons and a sister.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Sept. 6, at Scottsdale Bible Church, 7601 E. Shea Boulevard, Scottsdale.

Ernie L. Oliphant
Ernie Oliphant passed away July 16, 2008. She was born Oct. 21, 1934, the middle child of Ernie and Beulah Reid, in Richmond, Ind.
She met George at Earlam College and got married in September of 1955. They had three children, David, Wendell and Becky. In 1964 they moved from Newark, Ohio to Phoenix.
While raising her family she volunteered her time to the Phoenix Art Museum, Governor’s Commission on the Environment and Governor’s Highway Safety Council. It was through her work on the Safety Council that she became Executive Director of Operation Lifesaver (OLI), the railroads’ foremost safety program.
She enjoyed traveling all over North America and the Caribbean. She is survived by her sister, Edra Wiese; and brother, Paul Reid; her daughter, Becky Ozanne (Stephan); and sons, David (Stephanie Taul) and Wendell (Kelli Hoffman); and grandchildren, Ti Oliphant, and David, Valerie and Andy Oliphant and Kenyon and Mitchell Ozanne.

Norris L. Reynolds
Following a prolonged illness and progressive dementia, Norris L. Reynolds, 66, passed away in Scottsdale (Bloomfield House Care Center) on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008.
Born in New Castle, Pa. on May 9, 1942, to the late Dr. Amzie G. and Virginia (Hickok) Reynolds, he graduated from Neschannok High School in 1960.
Mr. Reynolds attended the University of Pittsburgh and Youngstown University. On Sept. 19, 1964, he married the former Margie Kuhn, who survives and was his constant source of care, courage and strength.
Also surviving is his sister, Thalia (Fred) Heiges of Hermitage, Pa. He was a very proud “Uncle Nowie” to niece, Laurel Anne (Frederick) Thorpe of Leawood, Kan. and nephew, Jeffrey George (Heidi) Heiges of Ellicott City, Md.; and great uncle to MacKenzie Olivia and, Morgan Elyse Thorpe, and Jeffrey George, Jr. and Aubrey Grace Heiges.
Other survivors include cousins and a host of abiding friends scattered about the USA since the Reynolds lived in Boston, Mass., Harrisburg, Pa. and O’ Fallon, Ill.
Their final move was to Rio Verde in 2001. Soon thereafter, Mr. Reynolds became ill, requiring assisted living services until his demise.
Extended “family” includes all of the staff at Bloomfield House Care Center and in particular, his primary caregiver for many years, Helen Walton, of Phoenix and then, his constant companion and beloved caregiver, Jonathan Jaime of Scottsdale, Jonathan was with him for the last six years.
Norris retired in 1994, after 30 years of service with Norwest Financial. His last position was in business development and his office was in St. Louis, Mo. Norwest Financial was formerly Dial Finance and is now Wells Fargo Financial.
His hobbies included boating and cruising. He volunteered as Santa for the American Cancer Society several years during the 1980s. Norris had a warm heart, was always approachable, and a friend to “all.”
No visitation hours have been scheduled with cremation provided as per his request. There will be a memorial service at the Bloomfield House, Scottsdale, AZ. The date will be determined in the near future.

Lt. Col. Victor H. Stout
Lt. Col. Victor Hugh Stout (Ret.) passed away at his home in Fountain Hills on Aug. 8, 2008.
He was born to Myrtle and Dalma Stout in Thermopolis, Wyo. on June 30, 1919.
He was a veteran of WWII and Korea and was awarded the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and 10 other commendations or theater of operations ribbons. He retired from the army with 22 years of service.
He was a 60-plus year member of the Masonic Lodge and was Post Master of Huachuca Lodge 53 in Sierra Vista, Ariz. He also belonged to the York Rite Bodies and to SABBAR Shrine Temple Tucson.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn of nearly 50 years; his daughter JoAnn Serro and spouse Tony; his son Larry Myers; his sister-in law Kay Stout; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Messinger Mortuary in Fountain Hills on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Masonic service at 12:30 pm.
Funeral will be held at St. Anthony on the Desert Scottsdale on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 1:30 pm. Interment at Paradise Memorial Gardens, Shea Boulevard, Scottsdale.
