Hatch memorial
There will be a memorial service in Fountain Hills for Dr. Stephen Hatch, and his wife, Kimberly, who died in a plane crash on June 24, 2011 in Michigan. Their son, Austin James Hatch, survived the crash and is recovering in a rehabilitation hospital.
Dr. Hatch is the son of Peg and Jim Hatch of Fountain Hills.
There will be a memorial mass on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the Catholic Church of Ascension, 12615 Fountain Hills Boulevard.
Eleanor Lemke
Eleanor Lemke, age 84 of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., formerly of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at Wisconsin Rapids Nursing and Rehab Center in Wisconsin.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 1, at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids with Rev. Mark Hansen officiating. Burial was at Riverview cemetery in Rock Rapids.
A memorial fund has been established to foster ministers through the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in the name of Rev. Paul Lemke Scholarship Fund. Memorials may be sent to: Peace Lutheran Church, 902 S. Carroll Street, Rock Rapids, IA, 51246.
Theodore D. Sherick
Theodore Duane Sherick, 90, a Fountain Hills resident since 1980 passed away suddenly Sept. 23, 2011 at his residence.
Ted was born in McConnelsville, Ohio in 1921. He was a member of the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church since moving to Fountain Hills. He was also an active member of the Noon Kiwanis Club and The Club.
Ted is survived by his children, Richard Sherick of Kettering, Ohio, Sharon Rothe of Marietta, Ga., and Sue Shepherd of Atlanta, Ga.; step-daughter, Carol Hall of Urbana, Ohio, and step-son, Charlie Watkins of Fountain Hills. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for Thursday, Oct. 13, at 4 p.m. at the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church, 13001 N. Fountain Hills Blvd.

Ted's body will be cremated and the ashes interred in the columbarium at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.
R. Dean Versaw
Dean Versaw passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, at age 83. He was born in David City, Neb. on Oct. 14, 1927, to Lawrence and Oyma Clyde Versaw. He lived in Lincoln, Neb. during his school years, always pleased to call Lincoln his home town.
He and Melba Mosier were married in Oct., 1947. He served in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force. Dean graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1957 and moved his family to Colorado for a position as an industrial engineer.
In 1974 he earned a private pilot’s license. His entrepreneurial drive led him to become owner and CEO of Burkhard Manufacturing Company in Berthoud, Colorado until his retirement in 1981.
Dean’s interest in how things work continued after retirement. He loved restoring classic British cars. Dean and Melba traveled extensively in Europe for car events, participating in rallies and shows. He also applied his restoration skills to a second home in France, and more recently a summer home in Maine. Dean and Melba considered Fountain Hills their permanent home since 1989.
R. Dean Versaw is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. He is survived by his wife, Melba; son, Scott (Beth) of Longmont, Colo., son, Jeffrey (Nancy) of Dulce, N.M.; grandson, Ryan Versaw of Grand Junction, Colo.; granddaughter, Claire Versaw, of Eugene, Ore.; and sister-in-law, Grace Burandt, of Belleville, Kan.
He will be sadly missed by his loving family.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church.

George J. Bauer
George Joseph Bauer, 86, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.
George was born in Chicago, Ill. on Feb. 18, 1925, a son to the late Jerry and Wallis (Kujawa) Bauer.
He was united in marriage to Irene Josephine Warzecha on Sept. 11, 1949 in Chicago. They recently celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Mr. Bauer was a Roman Catholic and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Scottsdale. He graduated from Lane Tech High School in Chicago in 1943 and later attended St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind.
An outstanding baseball player, he was drafted by the New York Yankees but chose to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He helped to build the first naval hospital on Guam.
Before retiring in 1993, he was a district manager in the beverage industry, working in Colorado, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico and Arizona.
George enjoyed all sports, especially fishing, golf, bowling, baseball and was an avid Phoenix Suns fan.
In his later years he was a player and coach of Arizona Senior Softball and proudly wore two World Series rings. He enjoyed being around people, especially family, and was happiest when they were all together. He truly loved life.
Survivors include his wife, Irene of Fountain Hills; his son, Mark of Scottsdale; his daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Carroll Phelps of Eldorado, Ill.; two grandsons, Kelly and his wife, Kelly of Harrisburg, Ill. and Aaron and his wife, Arianne Phelps, of Eldorado Ill.; and four great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Kole, Tori and Jake.
Visitation and funeral service were held Monday, Nov. 14, at Messinger Fountain Hills Funeral Home. Interment is at the National Memorial cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix.
Contributions may be made in his memory to a veterans organization of the donor’s choice.

Roger M. DeAngelis
Roger M. DeAngelis, born Aug. 19, 1937 in Chicago, Ill., and a resident of Fountain Hills, died peacefully on Veterans Day Nov. 11, 2011 in Phoenix surrounded by his loving family.
Roger was a successful business owner of Lancaster Press, Inc. For over 20 years. He served for four years in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1960, and was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer, 2nd Class.
Roger also served as commander of the American Legion, Post 58, for two consecutive years along with other various titles. He is also a member of the local Elk Lodge, and an avid golfer.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Sandy DeAngelis; daughters, Lisa (Jeffrey) Stollard and Michelle (Troy) Lancor; and a son, Tony (Traci) Sabatino.
Also surviving are nine amazingly awesome grandchildren, Samantha, Kyle, Nick, Kevin, Mike, Konnor, Anthony, Jason and Christopher.
Roger had two brothers, Larry and Paul, and was uncle to many and a loving, caring friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine, and his sister, Kathy.
Funeral mass was held Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the Church of the Ascension. A celebration of Roger's life followed immediately at the Fountain Hills American Legion Post 58.
An additional Funeral mass for his family and friends in his hometown Chicago is to be determined.

Robert Howes
Robert “Rob” Howes passed away suddenly on Nov. 9, 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Betsy; his two sons, Zachery and Tyler; his mother and step-dad, Natalie and Brian Spencer of Fountain Hills; and his father and step-mom, Bob and Sandie Howes of Scottsdale; his beloved sister and her husband, Natalie and Dicla Calitto; grandma Vi; step-grandparents Lonell and Marguerite Spencer; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many wonderful devoted friends.
He was a dedicated employee of Chaparral City Water Company since 1994, a proud member of Fountain Hills VFW and active in numerous Fountain Hills charitable events.
Rob was an Army veteran who served in Desert Storm in 1991.
Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the National Veterans cemetery in Phoenix.
Frank G. Jones
Frank Garfield Jones, 97, entered the church triumphant on Monday, Oct. 24, at skilled nursing at Fountain View Village after a brief bout with pneumonia.
Frank was born in his maternal grandparents’ home in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 5, 1914. He graduated from Withrow High School in Cincinnati in 1932. He studied at the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 1937 from the college of engineering. He received many honors for his scholastic abilities.
Frank co-opted as a university student at Container Corporation of America in Cincinnati, working as a time study employee in the company’s laboratory. Upon graduation he was hired at CCA full-time. He retired with many accolades from this same company after 45 years of employment, retiring as vice president and director of manufacturing in the container division. During his long term of employment he was for some time greatly involved in the international division. There were many trips to South America (Venezuela and Colombia), Mexico and Germany.
One year after college graduation Frank and his high school sweetheart, Mildred Simon, were married. When Milly died in 2001 after 63 years of marriage, they were still devoted sweethearts.
Frank and his family had several different places of residence through the years, Cincinnati, Anderson, Ind., Bettendorf, Iowa, Palatine, Ill. After retirement Frank and Milly moved to Escondido, Calif. then to Sun City West in Arizona. Following Milly’s death Frank moved to Fountain Hills to be near family.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Milly; and his grandson, Troy Allan Friddle. He is survived by two daughters, Peggy Sue (Larry) Linkin, Jo Ann (A.V.) Jones; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
Frank will be greatly missed for his love and affection, his analytical prowess, his quick wit and his infectious smile with those twinkling eyes.
A memorial service will be held at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Ray D. Wingert
Ray D. Wingert, a resident of Fountain View Village, passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, at the age of 93.
Ray had lived in Fountain Hills since moving with wife Dorothy from their long-time residence in Kettering, Ohio in 2003.
He is survived by his son, David, and daughter-in-law, Jane, and their children, also of Fountain Hills. Ray’s grandchildren are, Sarah Wingert Levine who lives with husband, Josh in Culver City, Calif., and Christopher Wingert, currently a student at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind.
Ray was born Nov. 3, 1918 in Dayton, Ohio but was raised in Bloomington, Ind. by his parents, Leafy Davis Wingert and Ray Damon Wingert.
Ray’s younger sister, Patricia, preceded him in death in 1972.
Ray graduated from Bloomington High School in 1935 and received a B.S. degree in general business from Indiana University in 1940.
He married Dorothy Jean Rundell also of Bloomington in February 1941. Ray entered the armed services in 1942 and served as a logistics officer in numerous locations.
He remained in the military during the post war formation of the U.S. Air Force and was the supply requirements officer for the establishment of Nouasseur Air Force Base in Casablanca, Morocco in 1950.
Living there with Dorothy, they established the American School for accompanying dependents of U.S. personnel.
Ray also had logistics assignments in Hawaii and Dayton, Ohio often requiring travel to Indochina and Japan. Ray retired from active duty with 20 years of service in 1966 but continued working as a civilian for the Air Force Logistics Command until 1982.
Ray was involved in numerous and diverse activities throughout his life. He was an athlete in high school, an avid golfer, reader, sports fan and supported his son’s activities with Boy Scouts and aviation for many years.
He and Dorothy were enthusiastic travelers seeing much of the United States in the 1940s, visiting Europe, Asia, and the Pacific all when travel was more an adventure than a casual routine.
Marjorie E. Bachmann
Marjorie E. Bachmann passed away on Jan. 31, 2012. She was born in Lorain, Okla. Sept. 17, 1920 to George and Rena McGunagle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Bachmann Jr. She is survived by her sons, Joseph, Thomas and Michael.
She was a member of the Church of the Ascension and the Daughters of Isabella.
She was a 12-year resident of Fountain Hills.
Services will be held in Akron, Ohio.

Eileen C. Brown
Eileen Christine Brown, 62, of Fountain Hills passed away on Wednesday, Feb 8, 2012 after a long battle with cancer.
Her strength and determination was an inspiration to all those around her from family, friends, caregivers and even those that did not know her as well.
Eileen had worked for Osco/CVS for more than 33 years and only stopped working due to her illness and treatments. It did not, however, stop her from being the kind, caring, loving person she was, even up until her final days. She was a fighter until the end and will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by her husband Larry, of Fountain Hills; son, Philip Guza, Plantation, Fla.; Sister Dolorita O/P, Chicago, Ill.; brother, John J. Brown, Chicago, Ill.; sister, Noreen (Jim) Richert, Round Lake Beach, Ill.; and Bailey, her faithful companion throughout her illness.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Joan Duplex and Patricia Burke. A memorial service was held on Saturday, Feb. 11, with family and friends paying their last respects and goodbyes at Messinger Fountain Hills Chapel.

Bruce Florence
After creating a lifetime of memories and supporting others, Bruce Florence faded from this life on Feb. 9, 2012.
Born in Denver, Colo. in 1930, he spent his childhood in Iowa and later moved to Michigan in 1957, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education along the way.
Bruce relocated to Fountain Hills in 1983 and retired in 1992 after careers in teaching and administration in public education. He dedicated his life volunteering in his community.
Bruce contributed to the Fountain Hills Art League as an artist, teacher and volunteer. Most notably, he was the founder of the Parkinson’s Support Group and the Caregivers’ Support Group in Fountain Hills.
He was especially proud of creating the fund-raising initiative entitled “Pennies for Parkinson’s.” In 2008, Bruce was named Fountain Hills’ Volunteer of the Year.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine; brother, Earle; sister-in-law Donna; six children; 12 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Feb. 12 at St. George Orthodox Church in Phoenix, with funeral services following Monday, also at the church.
