Norma L. Hardy

Norma L. Hardy, 82, of Cottonwood died May 18. She was born August 8, 1921 in Dragon, Utah.
She was a graduate of Lewiston High School and retired as an accountant from Yagi Nursing Home. She lived for 20 years in Mendocino in Northern California where she invested in real estate. She came to Cottonwood from Hawaii three months to be with her daughter.
Mrs. Hardy enjoyed gardening, wildlife, photography and travel and was known for her great sense of humor.
Her husband, Richard Kitcher Hardy preceded her in death.
She leaves a daughter, Jody Wheeler of Cottonwood; a stepson, Reef W. Hardy of Los Angeles; two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Dodo Mortuary in Hilo, Hawaii. Burial will be in the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Northern Arizona Hospice, 269 S. Candy Lane, Cottonwood 86326.

Goebel Jesse Bromback
December 07, 1924 - May 19, 2004
Goebel Jesse Bromback, 79, of Cottonwood died May 19. He was born December 7, 1924 in Louisville, Kentucky.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Louisville High School. He worked as an electrician for Local 58 in Detroit, Michigan and retired from a local International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Arizona. Years ago he worked in Santa Monica, California in his furniture store. He was known locally from Gleah's Indian Jewelry in Old Town that he owned with his wife.
Mr. Bromback was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He leaves his wife of 27 years, Gleah Bromback; two stepdaughters Karen Panella of Cottonwood and Katherine Devore of Redmond, Oregon; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 25 in the Westcott Funeral Home from 1 to 2 PM. A funeral service will follow at 2 PM. Military honors will be offered by VFW Post #7400.
Joseph M. Mraz
July 13, 1927 - May 22, 2004
Joseph Milo Mraz, 76, of Cottonwood died May 22. He was born July 13, 1927 in Brainerd, Minnesota.
Mr. Mraz was a Naval veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Brainerd High School and Brainerd Junior College. He retired as manager of a grocery meat department.
He had served as a secretary of the Lions Club, Road Runners Square Dance Club and the Two Steppers Round Dance Club, where he served as President of those organizations. He was a Boy Scout leader and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
He was a volunteer at the Library and also enjoyed painting and dancing.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Lila Mraz; two sons, Mike Mraz of Phoenix and Steve Mraz of Bothel, Washington; two daughters, Terri Moeller of Middleburg, Florida and Connie Topalian of Bothel, Washington; two sisters, Betty Zack of St. Paul, Minnesota and Josephine Pribula of St. Anthony, Minnesota; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A private family funeral service was held in the Westcott Funeral Home.

Norman R. Schrader
February 18, 1923 - May 21, 2004
Norman R. Schrader, 81, of Cottonwood died May 21. He was born Fenruary 18, 1923 in Roberts County, South Dakota.
He was a graduate of Browns Valley High School of Browns Valley, Minnesota. He was a retired owner and operator of a treanching business. Mr. Schrader was previously a farmer in South Dakota. He enjoyed gardening and his grandchildren. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Darlene Schrader; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Patrick Thornburg of Cornville; two brothers, Winford Schrader of North Highlands, California and Willard Schrader of Palm Desert, California; two sisters, Evelyn Simon of Sisseton, South Dakota and Fern Doschadis of Wilmot, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Danny, Chad, Chris and Kimberly; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Thornburg and Malia Thornburg. A son, Larry, preceded him in death.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, May 25 in the Faith Lutheran Church.

Martha Osentoski
April 05, 1928 - May 27, 2004
Martha Osentoski, age 76, formerly of Alpena passed away on Thursday, May 27 at her home in Clarkdale amongst her family.
Martha Wahoski was born in Argyle, Michigan on April 5, 1928 to the late Alex and Helen (Andras) Wahoski. She married Alfred Osentoski on April 29, 1950 in Detroit. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1994. Martha was employed as a press operator for Champion Spark Plugs for seven years. She later was employed with Alpena Public Schools as a bus driver for 15 years. She was also employed as a bookkeeper for Flower Land Florists for several years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and it's Altar Society.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Elaine (Mrs. Joseph) Marchlewski of Cottonwood; one grandson, Alan and his wife Erin Marchlewski; one great-granddaughter, Luie Marchlewski, all of Jacksonville, Florida; four siblings, Orville Wahoski of Decatur, Alabama, her only sister, Lucille Koch of Alpena, Michigan, Lawrence Wahoski of Howard City, Michigan and Richard Wahoski of Sterling Heights, Michigan and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Edward Wahoski.
Private family services will be held. A burial service will be held in Michigan at a later date.

Fay A. Yeager
September 17, 1908 - May 26, 2004
Fay Alma (Sirman) Yeager, 95, of Cottonwood died May 26 in Tucson.
She was born September 17, 1908 in the community of Ashland, in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. She was the oldest child of Talmage DeWitt and Barbara (Ezell) Sirman.
Her parents were famers and ranchers, and she grew up helping with the many chores that are farm related. Along with her two younger brothers, she became an excellent rider, and attended her early schooling at Ashland by commuting on horseback. She later attended schools in Haywood and Baker School Districts, also in Pittsburgh County.
She was very family oriented, a trait that remained with her all of her life. That trait was transferred to her own family, when she married William Vernon Yeager on February 18, 1931.
Immediately after their marriage, they left Oklahoma to make their home in New Mexico, where their two children were born.
During their 56 years of marriage, they worked side by side in several businesses; most of life's work seemed to be offering services to others as well as being able to be partners together in their ventures.
Fay always managed to be a full time mother and housewife as long as the children were home. Her loyalty to her family never waivered.
During their later years they were at Flagstaff, living and working on the estate of the Museum of Northern Arizona. Upon retirement they moved to Cottonwood.
She was a constant caregiver to her husband after he became ill, and remained dedicated and constant in his care, under very stressful circumstances, until his death.
Small in stature, determined in purpose, loyal in relationships, cleanliness next to Godliness, super human strength in times of need, a woman of independence, enduring to the end, we will remember her with love and pride.
She is survived by a son, Gene Yeager of Tucson; a daughter Barbara Spray on Lawton, Oklahoma; a sister, Lucille Beckham of McAllister, Oklahoma; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will held on Thursday, June 3 in the Cottonwood Cemetery at 10 AM.
Mary M. Brutti
October 12, 1915 - May 25, 2004
Mary M. Brutti, 88, of Flagstaff died May 25 . She was born October 12, 1915 in San Pedro, California.
She was the wife of the late Baldwin Leonard Brutti.

Arthur W. Gifford
August 28, 1928 - May 29, 2004
Arthur "Art" William Gifford, 75, of Camp Verde went to be with his Heavenly Father May 29. He was born in Valencia County, New Mexico on August 28, 1928.
He was a heavy duty equipment operator and truly enjoyed working. He loved to drive around the Verde Valley and tell of places where he did work. He did some of the dirt work on the Sedona Medical Center. When he developed cancer, he told some of the people there he didn't know at the time that he was building a place for his own care.
Art loved to fish and hunt.
Art is survived by his wife of 28 years, Claudette; three children, all of Oregon, a son, Billy Joe, daughters Donna and her husband Danny Bond, and Johnnie and her husband Steve George; four grandchildren, Russell Nelson, Julie Day, Kellie Bond and James Bond; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Taylor Day.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 5 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Camp Verde from 10-11 AM. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Burial will be in the Clear Creek Cemetery.

Bess M. Fairbanks

Bess McIntosh Fairbanks, 91, of Clarkdale died June 1.
She was born April 2, 1913 in Calvert, Texas, the daughter of James and Stella McIntosh. She was a graduate of Baylor University. She retired as a librarian in jet propulsion lab. She was also an ordained minister and enjoyed music and books.
Her husband, George H. Fairbanks and a brother, Bill McIntosh preceded her in death.
Mrs. Fairbanks leaves a daughter, Katherine Mickelson of Prescott; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 8 in the Westcott Funeral Home at 2 PM.

Margaret M. Buchanan
August 10, 1914 - May 31, 2004
Margaret M. Buchanan, 89, a resident of Sedona died May 31. She was born August 10, 1914 in Valparaiso, Indiana, where she lived her entire life until moving to Sedona eight years ago to live with her son Jim Buchanan and Bob Arehart.
She was preceded in death by parents Allen J. White and Martha Stevens-White, a brother, James and husband Edward J. Buchanan. Surviving family includes sons Jim Buchanan of Sedona, Richard Buchanan of Valparaiso, Indiana and brother Ret. Col. Allen S. White of Alexandria, Virginia, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Margaret had a varied professional life. She played piano in a dance band, owned her own children's clothing store, and did accounting at home for small businesses. She then worked in sales and alterations for a fine women's clothing store.
After her husband of 54 years was elected Sheriff of Porter County, Indiana, she became cook and matron for the county jail. Margaret then worked in the Porter County Recorder's Office for four years until managing the Valparaiso Branch of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles for 13 years before retiring.
Memorial services were held in Cottonwood at Country Ranch Assisted Living on June 4 and Valparaiso, Indiana on June 9.
Arrangements were handled by the Westcott Funeral Home.
