Henry Fierro

1964-2000

Henry Fierro, of Huntsville, Ala. and a former Bowie resident, died May 8, 2000, in Huntsville, Ala. He was born in Texas, on July 15, 1964, to Joaquin and Martha (Vasquez) Fierro.

Mr. Fierro was a graduate of Bowie High School and was a software engineer for SCI Systems and was an avid sportsman and coach of a boy's baseball team.

He is survived by his wife Debbie Fierro of Huntsville, Ala.; sons, Brandon Fierro and Mike Vick, both of Huntsville, Ala. and Gabriel Fierro; daughter, Lisa Vick of Huntsville, Ala.; brothers, George of Texas, Victor and Joaquin of Arizona; and sisters, Margarita Fierro, Sylvia Pacheco, both of Arizona, Patricia Mullet of Maine, Delia Eyrich of Texas and Hilda Lucero of Colorado; along with his parents Joaquin and Martha Fierro of Bowie. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on May 14, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Westlawn Chapel, with a Scripture Service on May 15, 2000 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bowie. Burial followed at Desert Rest Cemetery in Bowie.

Service under of direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

Cameron Johnson Kennedy

2000-2000

Cameron Johnson Kennedy, of Willcox, died on April 9, 2000. He was born in Tucson, on April 9, 2000, to Joseph Kennedy and Constance Johnson, of Willcox.

Cameron is survived by his parents, Joseph Kennedy and Constance Johnson of Willcox; maternal grandparents, Rebecca Rainey of Willcox and James Lenseth of Bakersville, Calif.; maternal step-grandfather, Scott Rainey of Winatche, Wash.; maternal great-grandmother, Patricia Johnson of Willcox; paternal grandparents, Ellen Combs of Pocatello, Idaho and Monte Kennedy of Willcox.

Graveside services were held on April 26, 2000, at the Gardens of Rest, in Benson. Mr. Cecil R. Richardson of Richardson's Remembrance Center officiated the services.

Services were under the direction of Richardson's Remembrance Center of Benson.

Lawrence Boehm

Lawrence Boehm, of Willcox, died on May 22, 2000, in Safford, at the age of 69. Visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Westlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held May 25, 2000 at Victory Baptist Church in Willcox.

Lisandro Montiyo

Lisandro Montiyo died on May 21, 2000 at Tucson Medical Center, in Tucson.

Juanita Roberts

1924-2000

Juanita Marie Roberts, of Scottsdale, died May 10, 2000, at her Scottsdale home, at the age of 76. She was born in St. Louis, M.

Mrs. Roberts was co-publisher and co-owner of three weekly newspapers before retiring in 1980. She and her husband, Clyde, purchased the Arizona Range News, in Willcox, their first weekly paper, in 1958 and later bought and the San Pedro Valley-News Sun, in Benson and newspapers in Silver City, NM. Mrs. Roberts and her husband sold their newspapers and retired in 1980.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Jane Flentje; sons, Bill and Jim; brothers, Patrick and Earl Mahnken; sisters, Kathy Heit and Patricia Lawrence and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 10 a.m., May 20, 2000, at Westminster Village of Scottsdale.

George F. Miller

1918-2000

George F. Miller, of Pearce-Sunsites, died May 27, 2000, in Tucson, at the age of 81. George was born on June 22, 1918, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to George A. and Lillian (Singlinger) Miller.

George retired from the Long Island Railroad in 1975, after working 37 years as an electrician. In 1977, he moved to the Sunsites area. He was a member of St. Judes Catholic Church and served as an usher for many years and was very active in church affairs. He also was past President of Cochise Stronghold Lions Club, former member of Pearce-Sunsites Fire Department, for which he volunteered for over 14 years, member of the Boy Scouts of America for over 50 years, where he served as Scout Commissioner and was awarded the Silver Beaver and was an avid golfer.

George is survived by his wife, Janet Miller of Sunsites; sons, Raymond (Lorraine) Miller of Lake Grove, N.Y. and William (Rose) Miller of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

George was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Marie Miller, on May 1, 1993.

Memorial mass will be held on June 1, 2000, at 10 a.m., at St. Judes Catholic Church in Sunsites. Rev. Msgr. John Oliver will officiate the service. Private cremation was conducted at Westlawn Crematorium with interment of his remains at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, L.I., N.Y. Contributions may be made to Cochise Stronghold Lions Club, P.O. Box 324, Pearce, AZ 85625 or Boys Scouts of America, Troop 409, P.O. Box 1135, Willcox, AZ 85644.

Lisandro E. Montijo

1927-2000

Lisandro E. Montijo, of Benson, died May 21, 2000, at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, at the age of 72. He was born on Sept. 14, 1927, in Bisbee.

Lisandro was a 54-year resident of Benson and a 72-year resident of Arizona. He was a carpenter, planner, estimater, U.S. Civil Service, Apache Powder and Ft. Huachuca Service volunteer. He was captain of the Fire Department and was also on the High School Board for four years. Lisandro loved to hunt and fish in the White Mountains.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Montijo of Benson; two sons, Lisandro (Catherine) Montijo of Douglas and Alex Montijo of Benson; two brothers, Gilbert (Alva) Montijo of Tucson and Oscar Montijo of Tombstone; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 10 a.m., on May 24, 2000, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Benson, with Rev. Ray Ratzenberger officiating. Interment will be at Cochise Gardens of Rest in Benson. Casket bearers were Clint Montijo, Elliot Montijo, Jaime Montijo, Ricky Montijo, Tom Montijo and Jim Lopshire. Honorary casket bearers were Warren Johnson, Charlie Molina, Paul Padia, Tom Wing, Gilbert Montijo and Maui Severance.

George Aston

1916-2000

George Aston, died on June 9, 2000, in Plano Texas. George was born in Ramsey Canyon, in the Huachuca Mountains, on Nov. 29, 1916.

He was raised in Southern Arizona, graduating from Benson Union High School. George married Patricia I. Gardner, on January 10, 1947, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was a member of the BPOE Lodge #2131 in Willcox. He served in the Army during WWII and saw action in Tunisia, Sicily, Naples, Foggia, Rome and Arno before being discharged October 5, 1945. George also worked on ranches in Arizona, New Mexico and Wyoming before retiring from cattle ranching six years ago and moving to Texas to be close to his daughter and her family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia and sister, Helen Harris.

He is survived by his daughter, Penny Weadon; two brothers, Virgil Haverty and Del Haverty; sister, Ruth Burton; son-in-law, Richard Weadon; granddaughters, Julie Henderson and Michele Weadon. great-grandchildren, Connie Henderson and Cris Henderson and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2000 at 10 a.m., at the Texas Canyon Cemetery, which is located at the entrance to the Amerind Foundation in Dragoon. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Cannon, Frank Flanders, Roger Choate, Keith Cannon, Teryl Murray, Malcolm MacKenzie, John McCarty, Dave Murray, Richard Weadon, Bill Flanders, and Howard Adams.

Services under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

David Edson

1924-2000

David Edson, of Benson, died on June 16, 2000, in Benson, at the age 77. David was born on Jan. 17, 1924 in Manhattan, N.Y.

Edson was a college graduate, he was a special deputy in New Mexico and Graham County. He was also a U.S. Air Force pilot during WWII and flew supply planes in the African Theatre. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is survived by brother, Russell (Frances) and sister, Patricia, both of Connecticut.

Memorial service will be held today, June 21, 2000, St. David LDS Stake Center located on Pomerene Rd. in Benson, at 10 a.m. Bishop Gerald Schmidt, of Benson Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will officiate the service. Disposition by cremation.

Richardson's Mortuary, of Benson, is handling the arrangements.

Raul Nunez

1959-2000

Raul Nunez, former resident of Bowie, died June 9, 2000 in Funston, Ga., at the age of 40. He was born on November 20, 1959, in Fabens, Texas, to Trinidad and Soledad (Corrales) Nunez.

For the last 20 years, he has resided in Georgia and worked as an airplane mechanic for Maule Inc. for 15 years.

He is survived by his sons, Shannon Nunez and Chris Nunez of Funston, Ga.; father, Trinidad Nunez of Bowie; sisters, Elvia Nunez, Mary Ellen Valdez, Irma Juarez, Sandra Reza and Gracie Madrid all of Bowie; Tina Nunez of Lytle, Texas and Nancy Hernandez of Willcox; brothers, Ernest and Joe Nunez of Bowie; Frank Nunez of Superior; and Ferni Nunez of Willcox.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 16, 2000 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Westlawn Chapel with funeral services Saturday morning June 17, 2000 in Bowie. Burial will be in Desert Rest Cemetery in Bowie.

Services under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

Maxine F. (Gauvey) Crawford

1913-2000

Maxine F. Crawford, of Benson, died June 8, 2000, at the Benson Hospital Hospice Care Unit, at the age of 86. Maxine was born on Dec. 4, 1913, in New Lebanon, Ohio, to Howard and Anna (Bailey) Gauvey.

Maxine lived in Benson for 40 years, moving to Arizona in 1943. She had many occupations in her lifetime, she worked at the Apache Powder Company for about five years, she was voted in a seat of the board of directors for the San Pedro Valley Hospital and she was a real estate broker. She was also the vice-president for the San Pedro Business and Professional Women's Club and was the secretary for the BEE Corp.

Maxine is survived by a son, James McCombs; daughters, Beverly Eversole and Barbara Deeter; sister, Bonita Chevalley; special nieces, Sheila Warner and Karen Hanson; a great niece, Lisa Thompson; a great nephew, George Hanson; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Services were held on June 12, 2000, officiated by Norman Crawford and Carl Haupt. Casketbearers were Lisa and Doug Thompson, James and Norman Crawford, Carl Haupt and Dallas Hearn. Interment was at Cochise Gardens of Rest, Garden of Hope. The family has requested donations be made to the Benson Hospital Hospice Care Unit.

Arrangements by Richardson's Mortuary in Benson.

George Aston

George Aston, former Cochise resident, died in Texas, at the age of 83.

A memorial service is planned for at a later date to be announced next week.

Arrangements are being handled by Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

Cruz Flores Apodaca

1905-2000

Cruz Flores Apodaca, of Willcox, died June 6, 2000, in Willcox, at the age of 94. She was born on June 27, 1905, to Juan and Petra (Flores) Apodaca, in Willcox.

Cruz had been a lifetime resident of Willcox. She was a retired nurse's aid for Dr. Patterson. During WWII, she worked at the Veteran's Hospital in Tucson. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was instrumental in establishing the Catholic Store.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Eddie Sanchez of Willcox; daughter, Josephine Takagi of Tucson; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews including Greg Bennett, Jackie Bruce and great nieces Jamie Bruce and Heather Bennett.

Rosary was held on June 11, 2000, at 7 p.m. at Westlawn Chapel with funeral mass on June 12, 2000 at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Willcox. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Willcox.

Services under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

John Anabel McCanne

1910-2000

John Anabel McCanne died on May 31, 2000, at the age of 89. Anabel was born on June 30, 1910, to Robert Lee and Lutha Risinger, in Lakeview, Hall County, Texas.

Anabel was a resident of Circle B Ranch Adult Care Center in Willcox. Anabel was married to Paul N. McCanne, of Lakeview, Texas, on January 8, 1930 and resided in Lakeview until 1952 when they moved to Willcox. At that time, Paul was employed by Western Cottonoil Company. After his assignment here in Willcox, they were transferred to Pecos, Texas, where they lived until their retirement in 1975. At that time, they returned to Willcox to make their home.

Anabel was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in February, 1977.

She is survived by her two children, Major Lee "Pete" (Patsy) McCanne of Willcox; Mary Beatrice (Richard) Keeler of Raleigh, N.C. ; four granddaughters, Kimberlee Schroeder of Willcox; Kameron (Jimmy Fred) DuBois of Bonita; Susan Keeler of Alexandria, Va.; and Nancy (Ian) Holland of Holly Springs, N.C. She is also survived by three great granddaughters Sheridan (Brad) Givens of Willcox; SalliAnn (Doug) Hall of Cochise; and Krysten Elliott of Bonita. Also, two great-grandsons, Nelson Lee Elliott and Phillip Leon Elliott, Jr. of Bonita. Anabel was also blessed with two great-great grandchildren, Braydn Griffin and Maddison Lee Givens. This had been a five generation family since the birth of Braydn and Maddison. Anabel is survived also by a sister, Billie (Jimmy) Pearce of Gatesville, Texas; numerous nephews and nieces and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on June 5, 2000, at 10 a.m. at Westlawn Chapel in Willcox. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery in Willcox.

Dorothy L. Gneck

1922-2000

Dorothy L. Gneck, of Chandler, died May 31, 2000, at the age of 78. She was born in Alamoso, Colo., on April 5, 1922, to Orestes E. and Eva Flower.

Dorothy was a resident of St. David for 15 years before moving to Chandler. She had been a homemaker and was a member of the LDS Cooper Ward of Chandler.

She is survived by three sons, Randy (Crystal) Gneck of Chandler; Andy (Jennifer) Gneck of Gilbert and Michael Gneck of Oregon; daughter, Marjorie (Stephen) Fowler of Uriahm, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held June 6, 2000, at St. David Cemetery, in St. David. Officiating the services were Bishop Lyle Riggs, Cooper Ward, of Chandler. Burial followed the services. Casket bearers were family and friends.
