Jacquie Ann Hollifield

1921-2000

Jacquie Ann Hollifield, of West Covina, Calif., died on July 3, 2000, in Covina, Calif., at the age of 79. She was born on April 22, 1921, in Ft. Wayne, Ind., to Wilber and Mary (Waterman) Ables.

Mrs. Hollifield lived in Willcox from 1956 until 1959, during that time, she and her husband, Grady owned the Arizona Range News. She was a former preschool teacher in Prescott and spent her retirement years in Prescott, Skull Valley and Safford. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Safford. On May 11, 1940, in Ft. Wayne, Ind., she married Grady Hollifield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady, on July 7, 1992.

She is survived by two daughters, Deanna L. Cronin of West Covina, Calif. and Melanie Lee Sakall of Tucson; sister, Delores Peppler of Columbia City, Ind.; brother, Stanley Ables of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held on July 8, 2000 at Sunset Cemetery in Willcox.

Services under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

Eleanor Mae Hanstrom

1920-2000

Eleanor Mae Hanstrom, of Benson, died at Benson Hospital, on July 1, 2000, at the age of 79. She was born on Nov. 18, 1920 in Freeport, Ill.

Mrs. Hanstrom was a sales person at a clothing store, she also completed the eleventh grade.

Eleanor is survived by one son, Bob Hanstrom, of Huachuca City; two daughters, Dixie Lippert, of Belmont, Calif. and Terri (Ron) Murrah, of Benson; one sister, Dade, of Illinois and three grandchildren.

Graveside services were held on July 4, 2000, at the High Street Cemetery. Rev. Clyde Guffy, of the Pentecostal Church, officiated the services.

Services under the direction of Richardson's Mortuary in Benson.

Jay Dagley

1940-2000

Jay Dagley, of Bowie, died on July 8, 2000, at his home, at the age of 60. He was born on June 14, 1940, in Longview, Texas, to Jay H. and Bonnie (Shelffield) Dagley.

Jay had been a resident of Bowie since 1970 and served as Fire Chief for Bowie Fire District for over 25 years. Mr. Dagley was President of The SubRegional EMS Council and was a very community minded individual serving on various boards.

He is survived by his brother, Don (Connie) Dagley of Seminole, Texas; sister, Landa Ford of Bowie.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation was held on July 11, 2000, at First Baptist Church of Bowie, with funeral services today at 10 a.m., at Bowie School Gym, with Pastor Mike Hudson officiating. Pallbearers will be Bruce Brown, Mike Bovee, Joe Mennen, Randy Haws, Bob Howard and Bob Fenimore. Contributions may be made to Jay Dagley Memorial Fund, c/o Westlawn Chapel, P.O. Box 1135, Willcox, AZ 85644.

Services under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

Emilio Aguirre

1976-2000

Emilio Aguirre, of Tucson died at the age of 24, on Aug. 19, 2000. Emilio was born on May 17, 1976 to Patty Saunder and Emilio Aguirre in Safford.

Emilio was a 1994 Graduate of B.H.S. and attended E.A.C. and N.P.C. He was currently managing Gary's Tax Shop in Tucson.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather; Patty and Larry Saunders; his father and stepmother; Emilio and Laurie Aguirre; a brother; Thomas Aguirre, and grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services were held Aug. 25 by Rev. Hinskey. Emilios will be laid to rest at the Cochise Gardens.

A funeral service for Emilio Aguirre will be held on Aug. 25, 2000, at 10 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-Stake Center, located on Pomerene Rd. in Benson.

Robert W. Spinney

1913-2000

Robert W, Spinney died on July 20, 2000 at Stamford, N.Y., at the age of 87. He was born at West Medford, Mass., on Feb. 13, 1913, to Robert M. and Jessie E. (Crawley) Spinney.

He graduated from the Medford High School in 1930, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1935 with a BS degree and Rutgers Graduate School of Education with MEd degree in 1968. He became a Licensed Professional Engineer in New York State in 1947.

He was employed at the Bell System reclamation plant at Tottenville, Staten Island, N.Y. from 1936 1968 retiring as the operation manager except during the World War II when he was in the military. He served in the Army Chemical Warfare active duty from 1942-1946. He retired as a Colonel. Prior to his service with the US Army he served with the British.

He taught mathematics, physics, chemistry and science in the Buena High School in Sierra Vista and in the Willcox High School from 19681974. He served as Chairman of the Math and Science Departments.

He served as Director of the Sulphur Springs Electric Coop. from 19711989 and as President of the Board and CEO from 19801989. He also served as a Director of the Arizona Electric Power Co. from 19731988 and as President of the Board and CEO from 19851988, having been Treasurer and Chairman of the Finance Committee for several years prior to being President.

While living in Staten Island, N.Y., he served in various charitable and religious organizations. In Arizona he was active in Masonic activities and a member of Willcox Lodge No. 10 F&AM as well as numerous other Masonic bodies, many of which he had served as an officer. He was also a dual member of Masonic bodies in Oneonta, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Earline who died in 1983; his parents; brother, Carleton and sister, Jessie Willett.

He is survived by his son, Richard B. Spinney of Stamford, N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Bette Jayne; his sister, Alice Louise Droney of Medford, Mass.; as well as granddaughter, Candi P. Mattice of Stamford, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, and two nephews and two nieces.

Burial of cremains was held at Pearce Cemetery.

Services were under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

Raceine Mary Franks

1926-2000

Raceine Franks, a 25-year resident of Benson, died on Sept. 13, 2000, in Benson at the age of 74.

She was born in South Bend, Ind., and lived in Michigan previous to her 30 years as a resident of Arizona She worked in nursing home care. Raceine is survived by one son Arnold Franks, of Tucson, and one sister, Rachel Lee, of Pahrump, Nev.

A funeral will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, foot of the Chiricahua Mountains Officiant of the service will be grandson-in-law Sean Haynes of First Southern of Mesa.

Perl Fenn Coons

1915-2000

Perl Fenn Coons, a seven year resident of McNeal, died on Sept. 23, 2000, at the age of 84. She was born in Pirtleville, on Nov. 14, 1915, to Vermina (Staley) and Moroni Fenn.

Perl was a homemaker, known for her crafts and chocolate chip cookies. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.

Perl is preceded in death by husband, Sid Coons 1980, Daughters, Elaine in 1975, and son Donald in 1989 also two brothers and three sisters . Perl survived by Daughter, Cleo (Oran) Adcock of Mc Neal, 14 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren and one Great-Great Grandchild.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2000, at St. David Stake Cemetery on Pomerene Road, Benson. Officiant of the service will be Bishop Paul Fenn of the Pomerene Ward. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Relief Society Room of the Stake Center. Honerary Bearers : Tom Farnsworth, Tim Coons, Oran Adock, Bill Coons. Casket bearers are Keo Jones, Loran Gersztyn, Jesse Adcock, Carl Patscheck, Lee Coons. Dale Patscheck, Daniel Coons, Lynn Adcock.

Sarah Lopez Celaya

1907-2000

Sarah Lopez Celaya a lifetime year resident of Tucson, died on Sept. 20, 2000, at the age of 93. He was born in Benson on Sept. 1, 1907, to Isadora and Francisco Lopez.

Sarah is survived by seven sons Raul (Louise) Calaya, Belfair, Wa., Al (Victoria) Celaya, Ramona, Ca., George (Connie) Celaya, Tucson, Gus Celaya, L.A., Ca., Ted (Marty) Celaya, San Diego, Ca., Armonndo Celaya, Miami, Fl. Hector Celaya, Tucson. one daughter Ester (Terry) Moore, Tucson. one sister Conception Martinez, Benson. 14 grandchildren and 14 great grand children.

A funeral will be held Sept. 26 at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Officiant of the service will be Father Ray Ratzenberger. Casket bearers George Celaya, Hector Celaya, Gus Celaya, Ted Celaya, Al Celaya, Manuel Padia, Frank Padia.

Arnold H. Lewis

1931-2000

Arnold Lewis, a three-year resident of Benson, died on Sept. 15, 2000, at the age of 69. He was born in McKeesport, Penn., on June 17, 1931, to Virginia and Howard Chistian Lewis.

Arnold was a salesman for Matthews Chevrolet for 10 years, Bold Star Realty for three years and Vantage Point Realty for five years. He and his family enjoyed motor sports clubs. He drove the church bus for two different churches. He received the Key to the City in Louisiana and many sales awards during his career. His special friend was Jade Leveseque. His hobby was wood working and stained glass works. He was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church in Tucson. Arnold served in the U.S. Coast Guard for ten years and during the Korean War.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Benson; three sons, Douglas (Mary) and Jeffrey (Tammy) of Tucson, Vincent Lewis of Toledo, Ohio; three daughters, Marcine (Bob) Chamberlain of Dundee, Michigan, Rebecca (Jerry) Hitzka of Akron, Ohio, and Cherie Kyle of Ohio; a brother, Evan Lexis of St. Pete Beach, Fla.; a sister, Betsy (Tom) Smith of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral was be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 18, 2000, at Pantano Christian Church. Officiant of the service will be Reverend Walt Tetham.

Agnes A. Frederickson

1911-2000

Agnes A. Frederickson, a six-year resident of Sierra Vista, died on Sept. 14., 2000, at the age of 88. She was born in Lethbridge, Aberta, Canada on Oct. 22, 1911, to Bertha (Nerral) and John Andrew Rygg.

Agnes was an executive with Mier and Frank May Company for 46 years. She was a member of the Professional Women's Club. She attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Latter-day Saints.

Agnes was proceeded in death by husband, Andrew Oscar Frederickson in 1983. She is survived by a son, A. Reed (Kris) Frederickson of Orem, Utah; and daughter Nancy L. (Dennis) Richardson of Sierra Vista; two sisters, Blanche McCue of Los Angeles, Calif., and Doris Wiemer of Portland, Ore.; nine grandchildren and two great-grand children.

A funeral will be held on Sept. 20, 2000, in Portland, Ore.

Joan C. Gappmayer

1938-2000

Joan C. Gappmayer, of St. David, died on June 18, 2000, at the age 61. Joan was born on Sept. 24, 1938, in Copperton, Utah, to Everard James and Polly Estella (Draper) Cowdell.

Mrs. Gappmayer was a homemaker, genealogist and longtime librarian. She loved to find family history. She was also a member of the St. David Ward Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Joan is survived by her husband, Frank of St. David; three sons, Kirk (Shauna) of Tucson; Gerald (Keri) of Blanding, Utah; James (Kelly) of Tucson; four daughters, Polly (Todd) Johnson of Linden; Paula (Phil) Delaney of Tucson; Trudy (Derrick) Boyce of Page; Brenda (Marlo) Stradling of Mesa; three brothers, Keith Cowdell of St. George, Utah; Marion Cowdell of Scottsdale; Frank Cowdell of Copperton, Utah; four sisters, Faye Scott of Mapleton, Utah; Barbara Walters of Midvale, Utah; Polly Poter of Bloomington, N.M.; Sherry Little of St. George, Utah and 26 grandchildren.

Services will be held at the St. David LDS Church on June 22, 2000 at 10 a.m. Visitations are June 21 at 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on June 22. Interment will be at St. David Cemetery.

Arrangements were made by Richardson's Mortuary of Benson.

Dr. W. Lyle Braughton

1939-2000

Dr. W. Lyle Braughton, retired GESD E. Lt., passed away May 27, 2000. He was born in Torrance, Calif., on May 6, 1939.

Dr. W. Lyle served on the Torrance and Westminster Police Department. He moved to Arizona to attend Grand Canyon University earning a bachelor's degree in Education. He married Sharon Gallagher in 1963. He earned a master's degree from NAU and a doctorate from ASU both for Education.

He is survived by his father, W.E. Braughton; his wife, Sharon; daughter, Lori (Dwayne) Reeves; son, Rick (Rebecca) Braughton and granddaughter, Alicia.

Visitation was at Best Funeral Service on May 30. Services were held on June 3. Interment was at the First Southern Baptist Glendale Interment Resthaven Cemetery.

Mildred (Scott) Schilling

1923-2000

Mildred (Scott) Schilling, of Benson, died June 5, 2000, at the age of 76. She was born in Pomerene, on Aug. 31, 1923, to Joseph and Mary Scott.

Mildred had been employed as a cook and was a resident of Benson for 14 years. She also belonged to the LDS Church.

She was preceded in death by daughter, Eloise "Sami" Steadman on March 31, 1991.

She is survived by her husband, George J. Schilling of Benson; brothers, Earl Scott of Mariciopa; Ronald (Edith) Scott of Corpus Cristi, Texas; Robert Clinton (Eloise) Scott of Kirkland, N.M.; and Guy (Glenna) Scott of Safford; sister, Dora (Glenn) Corbett of Clearwater, Fla.; three grandchildren, Susan G. (Matthew) Stross of Clearwater, Fla.; Robert A. (Barbara) Hester of Evansville, Ind.; and Charles R. (Dena) Hester of Riverside, Calif.; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held today, June 7, 2000, at 10 a.m., at Richardson's Mortuary Chapel in Benson. Burial will follow at Pomerene Cemetery.

Arrangements under the direction of Richardson's Mortuary in Benson.
