Henry Cameron "Hot Rod Henry" Rolland

1938-2000

Henry Rolland, of Benson, Died August 6, 2000 in Benson, at the age of 62. He was born in Reedburn, New York on February 7, 1938, to Ella (Brush) and Jules Verne Rolland.

Known as "Hot Rod Henry" Riding his electric cart around Benson he had his share of wild times. He had been in 145 car crashes, gone through 7 windshields, been burned with 400 degree boiling tar, and run over by a Mercedes "class for a second"

He came to Benson 5 years ago from Albuquerque, New Mexico. He worked as a Quarryman for Mason Stone Dock for 15 years as well as a sawmill worker and several other occupations in his lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his son Henry Rollands Jr. in 1996.

He is survived by his brother Mack (Eileen) Rolland of Binghampton, New York; 2 sisters, Liz Mason of Fishes Eddy, New York; Ida (Malcolm) Perry of Livingston Manner, New York; Granddaughter, Harmony Rolland of Livingston Manner, New York.

Funeral Service will be held at Sobriety House of Benson on Saturday, August 19, 2000. Services under the direction of Richardson's Mortuary in Benson. Please call Richardson's for time.

Jack Lindsey

1917-2000

Jack Lindsey, 83, of Willcox died Sept. 11, at his home. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m., at Westlawn Chapel. A complete obituary will appear in next week's Range News.

Contributions may be made to the Charles Leighton, Jr. Hospice Fund, c/o Compass Bank, 173 S. Haskell, Willcox, AZ 85643. Services under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

Donald Walter Self

1945-2000

Donald Self, a resident of Palmdale, Calif., died Aug. 29, 2000 at the age of 55. He was born Feb.26, 1945, in St. David.

Donald was in law enforcement for 24 years. He was a dedicated deputy for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. In 1999, he was Deputy of the Year and was head trainer for the volunteer mounted unit. He also founded the Palmdale Station Integrity Club For Youth Offenders and was an avid horse trainer and team roper.

He is survived by his new bride, Andrea Self; four children, Sharon, Travis, Justin and Angela Self; four brothers, Jim, Steve and Scott Self and Doug Woodson; three sisters, Rosemary Arnold, Fonda Nichols and Vicky Kartchner; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rex Self, in 1972.

Memorial services were held on Sept. 2, 2000, at Totem Pole Ranch, in Palmdale, Calif. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sheriff's Boosters Integrity Club, Attn: Palmdale Sheriff Station. Services were under the direction of Halley-Olsen-Murphy Memorial Chapels, Palmdale, Calif.

Kenneth L. Smith

1928 2000

Kenneth L. Smith, 71, of Sunizona, died Sept. 2, 2000 in Tucson. He was born in Sunglow to Joseph and Bonnie Lee (Wagner) Smith on Sept. 15, 1928. .

Mr. Smith proudly served in the U.S. Army during Korean War and was retired from the Federal Aviation Department and the U.S. Forest Servicewhere he was a heavy equipment operator. He was also a member of the Southwestern Cowboy Association and a life member of VFW #9977 in Pearce. .

He is survived by his wife Louise of Sunizona; son, Joseph W. Smith of Sunizona; and Daughter, Sharma Davis of Sierra Vista. Also surviving are his sisters; Faye Valentine of Sparks, Nev., and Annie Binkham; and two grandchildren. .

His parents, three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Graveside Services were held Sept. 9, 2000, at the K Lazy S Ranch next to the Sunglow Ranch in Turkey Creek. Friends may contribute to Charles Leighton, Jr. Hospice Fund, c/o Compass Bank,173 S. Haskell, Willcox, AZ 85643. Services were under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

David J. Wozniak

1941-2000

David J. Wozniak, of Sunizona, died at the age of 59 on Aug. 31, 2000, at his home. He was born on Jan. 30, 1941, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Joseph and Angeline (Parodowski) Wozniak.

He moved to the Sunizona area in 1994. Mr. Wozniak was a truck driver and a member of Wynne Chapel in Richland Ranchettes. On July 3, 1964, in Oakwood, Wis., he married Lynne Guentzel.

He is survived by his wife Lynne, of Sunizona; son, David Shane Wozniak, of Racine, Wis.; and daughter, Sharon (Steve) Milskey, of Appleton, Wis.

His parents preceded him in death.

Memorial Services will be conducted on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at 5 p.m, at Wynne Chapel in Richland Ranchettes. Private cremation was conducted at Westlawn Crematorium. Friends who wish may contribute to Wynne Chapel or First Southern Baptist Church in Sunizona, or a charity of their choice.

Services are under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

Clarence H. "Herb" Estes

1915-2000

Clarence Estes, a six-year resident of Benson, died on Sept. 8, 2000, at the age of 84. He was born in Dos Cabezas on Sept. 29, 1920, to Elizabeth Belinda (Stephens) and Glick Ezy Estes.

Herb was a station superintendent for 40 years with El Paso Natural Gas Co., and also worked as a cowboy. As a youth he worked in the CCCs for a few months in the Chiricahua Mountains. The family enjoyed hunting and fishing together. Herb was a woodworker and enjoyed making furniture and other wood items. He also enjoyed spending time with special friends, the Riggs Family. Herb was a member of the First Baptist Church of Duncan and the Lions Club of Gallup, N.M. Herb served in the U.S. Navy from Sept. 29, 1942 to Oct. 12, 1945.

Herb is preceded in death by daughter Ellen in 1993, and is survived by wife Mildred, of Benson, two daughters, Betty M. (Wayne) Nelson of Benson, and Bonnie M. Barlow of Benson; sister, Nellie Boyette of Tucson, seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held graveside at 10 a.m. on Sept. 16, 2000, at El Dorado Cemetery at the foot of the Chiricahua Mountains Officiant of the service will be grandson-in-law Sean Haynes of First Southern of Mesa.

Mary L. Blevins

1913-2000

Mary L. Blevins, of St. David, died at home in St. David, on May 31, 2000. She was born in Morenci, on Dec. 19, 1913.

Mary had been a lifetime resident of Arizona and had lived in St. David for 21 years. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her son, Tommy P. Blevins of St. David; daughters, Mary E. Blevins of Tucson; Virginia Pigno of Picayune, Miss.; Isabel Durnal and Dolores Jacquez, both of St. David; sister, Carmen Flores of Phoenix; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Viola Jacquez in 1997 and Margie Blevins in 1963.

Funeral services were held on June 6, 2000, at 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church, in St. David. Pastor Mark Stevens officiated the services.

Kent E. Shaver

1941 - 2000

Kent E. Shaver, of Willcox, died June 2, 2000, at his home, at the age of 58. He was born on September 23, 1941, in Marietta, Ill., to Dwight and Cordia, (Huddleston) Shaver.

Mr. Shaver came to Arizona in 1970 and to Willcox in 1975. Mr. Shaver was a farmer and was an entrepreneur in many businesses. For the last five years, he owned Dos Cabezas Realty and Investments. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Willcox, was a former deacon of the church and he served on the Library Board, which was instrumental in establishing the current library. On September 23, 1960, at Point Pleasant Church, in Illinois, he married Linda McCracken.

He is survived by his wife Linda of Willcox; sons, Andy (Julie) Shaver of Willcox; James Mark (Anna Marie) Shaver of Carlsbad, Calif. and John (Delanea) Shaver of Cochise; daughter, Carol (Larry) Holden of Flagstaff; sister, Patsy (Corky) Hensley of Marietta, Ill.; grandchildren, Luke, Jake, April, Austyn and Essie.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 9, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Westlawn Chapel, with funeral services held on Saturday, June 10, 2000, at 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Willcox. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery in Willcox. A memorial services will also be held at Point Pleasant Church in Ill., at a later date. Contributions may be made to Arthritis Foundation, Southern Arizona Chapter, 616 N. Country Club RD, Tucson, AZ 85716 or First Baptist Christian School, 321 W, Maley, Willcox, AZ 85643.

Services under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

Iva Jean Stiles

1929-2000

Iva Jean Stiles, of St. David, died on June 1, 2000 at her home, at the age of 71. She was born on April 12, 1929, in Holbrook, to Thurman Ritchey and Mable Hugh Ritchey.

She was a delightful and active person, a loving mother and a wonderful person.

She was preceded in death by her husband Doy Stiles in 1984.

She is survived by her daughter, Vickie (James) Bradford of St. David; son, Richard (Cindy) Stiles of Calif.; brother, Dick Ritchey of Arkansas; four grandchildren, Shawn and Troy Bradford, Carrie Galle and Betsy Stiles; four great-grandchildren.

Private services will be conducted.

Services were provided by San Pedro Funeral Home.

Helen Kay Busby

1933-2000

Helen "Kay" Busby, of Benson, died on June 7, 2000, at the Hospice Unit of Tucson Medical Center, at the age of 67. Kay was born on May 15, 1933 in South Bend, Ind., to William Vaughn and Helen Naomi Spain.

In her lifetime, Kay worked in several widely varing occupations such as a bookkeeper, truck driver, saleperson and antique dealer. At the time of her death, she had recently retired from the antique business.

Kay was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Koch, her mother and her last husband, Richard L. Busby of St. David, who died on June 20, 1992.

Kay is survived by her father, William Spain of Chino, Calif.; three daughters, Linda Krumples of Orange, Calif.; Diane (Scott) Johnson of Lawrenceville, Ga.; Andria (Danny) Schaffer of Sweet Home, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Robert Ramsey, Sandria Schade and Michael Schade of Georgia; Doug and Heather Krumples of California; Kimberley and Garrett Schaffer of Ore.; three great-grandchildren, Amelia Ramsey, Christina and Mason Schade and an adopted niece, Mary (Art) Bunten of Benson; also her special friends and caregivers, Aletha Rusnak; Cynthia Hood; Amanda McAbee and Patsy Fortney.

Kay's happiest time of life was while working as a cross country truckdriver with her husband, Richard. Therefore, her last wish was to be cremated and for her ashes to be scattered on a beautifully scenic stretch of highway so that she could be forever travelling. In accordance with this wish, no service will be held in Benson, but a memorial service may be held at a later date in Georgia. In lieu of flowers or condolence cards please make a donations to the American Cancer Foundation or one of the two local food banks.

Richardson's Mortuary in Benson is handling cremation arrangements.

Roberta M. Dull

1924-2000

Roberta M. Dull, of Benson, died on July 4, 2000, in Benson, at the age of 76. She was born on March 4, 1924, in DeCatur, Ind. to Harry and Beatrice Coffelt.

Mrs. Dull was a homemaker and had completed high school. She also was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Benson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eular Dull, 1965; a grandson, Colton Dull, of Stockton, Calif.; two great-grandsons, Matthew and Mark Dull, of Stockton, Calif. and cousin, Bob (Waunetta) Berry, of DeCatur, Ind.

Memorial services will be held on July 18, 2000, at 6 p.m., at Richardson's Memorial Chapel in Benson. Cecil R. Richardson will be officiating the service. Interment will be at the Cochise Garden of Rest.

Services under the direction of Richardson's Mortuary in Benson.

Johny Grant Judd

1947-2000

Johny Grant Judd, of Willcox, died on July 10, 2000, in Willcox, at the age of 53. He was born in Tucson, on January 13, 1947, to Grant and Ilene (Bennett) Judd.

He had been a lifelong resident of Arizona. Mr. Judd was a heavy equipment operator for AEPCO Power Plant for 21 1/2years and had worked in the mines prior to working for AEPCO. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Dixie from 1969 until 1973. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, Willcox 2nd Ward. On August 9, 1974, in Oakland, Calif., at the LDS Temple, he married Marilyn Wright.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Willcox; sons, Jake Judd of St. David; Matt Judd of Thatcher; Ben and Michael Judd of Willcox; daughter, Sherry Judd of Mesa; father, Grant (Joan) Judd of St. David; brother, Howard (Melanie) Judd of St. David; and sister, Elaine (Ken) Luke of Ontario, Ore.; aunts, Ethel Smith and Midge Bennett both of St. David and grandson Mason Judd of Safford.

His mother Ilene Judd preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be tomorrow, July 13, 2000, at 10 a.m., at the Willcox LDS Church with viewing starting at 9 a.m. in the relief society room. Burial will take place at St. David Cemetery in St. David. Contributions may be made to the UMC Liver Transplant, c/o UMC, 1501 N. Campbell, Tucson, AZ 85710.

Stella Ramirez

1931-2000

Stella Ramirez, of Benson, died on July 22, 2000, in Benson, at the age of 68. She was born on Dec. 18, 1931, in Wagon Mound, N.M., to Bernardo and Teodora (Trujillo) Armijo.

Stella was a homemaker. She completed 11 years of education. She was also a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Stella is survived by her husband, Gumersindo Ramirez of Benson; two sons, Albert Valdez of Williams and Frank (Lillian) Valdez of Mora, N.M.; three daughters, Vicki (Ron) Sterling of Benson; Joann (Alez) Almaguer of Douglas and Estrellita (John) Ruiz of Benson; a brother, Bernie Armijo of Raton, N.M.; also three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Rosary and funeral services were held on July 25, 2000, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Benson. Rev. Ray Ratzenberger officiated the services. Interment was at Cochise Garden of Rest at the Garden of Mary, on July 26, 2000. Casket bearers included Ed Ramirez, Rene Ramirez, Alex Amlaguer, Ron Sterling, Frank Valdez and Albert Valdez.

Services were under the direction of Richardson's Funeral Home in Benson.
