Elvira G. Fierros

Mrs. Elvira G. Fierros of Douglas passed away November 17, 1998 at the Southeast Arizona Medical Center.

Mrs. Fierros was born October 11, 1911 in Pillares, Sonora, Mexico. She has been a local resident for the past 51 years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

Mrs. Fierros is survived by her husband, Jose M. Fierros; four sons, Robert (Nellie) Fierros of Douglas, Manuel (Sylvia) Fierros of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jose (Carol) Fierros of Sierra Vista and Ramon (Rosemary) Fierros of Douglas. Also surviving are 7 granddaughters and 1 grandson, 4 great-granddaughters and 4 great-grandsons.

A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Luis N. Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Memorial Park.

Pallbearers who will serve are Roberto Fierros, Ramon Fierros, Manuel Fierros, Joey Chavez, Jose Fierros and Ramon Fierros, Jr.

Pearl Marie Hudson

Pearl Marie Hudson went to be with the Lord on November 14, 1998.

Pearl was born May 15, 1930 in Douglas to Pearl Lamar and Colin Lamar. Pearl moved to Valljo California early in WWII. She worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. it was there she met her husband Thomas C. Hudson. They were married May 15, 1971. Pearl and her husband traveled in their RV until moving to Douglas to take care of Pearl's mother.

Pearl was a very special and caring person. She was loved by all who knew her and was deeply respected.

She is survived by her husband Tom C. Hudson; mother, Pearl Lamar; cousin, Lily Mae Romero.

Services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Brown Page Mortuary with Rev. Oscar Olivares officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Tom Bennett, Emitt "Bugs" Davis, Lewis Johnson, Al Kamin, Manny Robles, Rob Johnson.

Sally Prime Trappman

Mrs. Sally Prime Trappman of Douglas died November 9, 1998 at the Southeast Arizona Medical Center.

Mrs. Trappman was born July 6, 1913 in Webb, Arizona to Elmer D. and Cora May fox Harris. She has been a lifelong Arizona resident. Mrs. Trappman was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Trappman.

She is survived by a niece and nephew, special friend Marion Wilson and several cousins.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 16, 1998 at the Whitewater Cemetery in Elfrida with Reverend James Pitts officiating.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel.

Jaime Luna

Jaime Luna gets his wings.

After 12 years of wonderful life which included a six year battle with cancer, Jaime completed his mission here on earth.

Bringing love, laughter and strength to each and every person who touched his life, Jaime's unfaltering faith and total trust in his destiny enabled him to enjoy each moment of his life to its fullest and share his wisdom with those who surrounded him.

He taught us about the importance of family, strong will, patience, miracles and most importantly, love.

Jaime's precious lessons will continue to live through his family and friends and he will be in our hearts forever.

In taking this new journey into an everlasting life, he has temporarily left behind his parents, Luis & Johnie, his brother, Hector and his nephew, Joshua, his grandparents, Henry and Lydia Estrada and Arnoldo and Clementina Luna.

A rosary service will be held on Sunday, November 8 at 7 p.m. at St. Luke's Church. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, November 9 at 10 a.m. also at St. Luke's Church with Father Bob Carney officiating.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Family Fund at the Ronald McDonald House, 2230 E. Speedway, Tucson, AZ 85719, the National Children's Cancer Society (please call 364-0060 for the address) and the Sunshine Kids c/o Prudential, 1331 N. Wilmot, No. 100, Tucson, AZ 85712.

Ralph F. Wicke

Ralph F. Wicke, 86 year old Alamagordo resident, and former Douglas resident died Wednesday, November 4, 1998 at the Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital in Alamagordo, New Mexico.

Mr. Wicke was born may 17, 1912 in Bisbee, Arizona, the son of Herman F. and Anna C. Eiting Wicke. He had moved to Alamogordo in November of 1991.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Coahlene Wicke April 3, 1192; one son, Howard D. Wicke and daughter, Kathryn Cruse. he is survived by one daughter, Maria G. Moor of Alamogordo, New Mexico; grandsons Dennis Moor, Gary (Mona) Moor, Pat (Julie) Cruse and Mike (Susan) Cruse.; granddaughter Desiree Sousha; great-granddaughter, Heather Cruse; brothers, Gerald Wicke of Douglas and Herman (Edna) Wicke of Bisbee. Also surviving are a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel with funeral services at 10 a.m. on Saturday also at Brown Page Chapel, followed by burial at Calvary Memorial park.

Miguel Angel Nieblas

Mr. Miguel Angel Nieblas of Douglas died November 3, 1998 at the Tucson Medical Center.

Mr. Nieblas was born January 7, 1930 in Fronteras, Sonora, Mexico.

He has been a Douglas resident since 1982 and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

Mr. Nieblas is survived by his wife, Paz Varela Nieblas of Douglas; daughters, Maria Nieblas Varela and Delfina Nieblas Varela; sons, Miguel Angel Nieblas Varela, Ramon Enrique Nieblas Varela and Jose Guadalupe Nieblas Varela; sisters, Ernestina Reyes and Mariana Abril; brother, Andres Nieblas. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren.

A rosary service will be held today at 7 p.m. at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Luis N. Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Pallbearers who will serve are Miguel Angel Nieblas, Ramon Enrique Nieblas, Jose Guadalupe Nieblas, David Varela, Antonio Rivera and Andres Nieblas.

Maurine Hicks

Mrs. Maurine Hicks of Portal died October 28, 1998 at the Southeast Arizona Medical Center.

Mrs. Hicks was born November 29, 1915 in San Simon, Arizona and was raided in Paradise. She has been a lifelong resident of this area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Hicks in 1978.

Mrs. Hicks is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Rayburn McLendon of Portal; grandchildren, Anisa Crowley of Playas, New Mexico, and Todd McLendon of Barskdale AFB, Louisiana. Also surviving are 7 great-grandchildren.

Following her request, she will be cremated and memorial services are pending.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Family Care, 2260 E. Fry Blvd., No. D4, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635 or the Portal Rescue, Portal, Arizona.

Ernesto Diaz

Mr. Ernesto Diaz of Douglas died at his home Tuesday, November 24, 1998.

Mr. Diaz was born September 16, 1916 in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. He has been a Douglas resident for the past 80 years. He was employed by the Phelps Dodge Smelter where he worked for over 30 years. he retired in 1981. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

Mr. Diaz was preceded in death by his wife, Isabel; daughter, Lydia Maytorena and grandda-ghter, Susana Maytorena.

Surviving is his son, Oscar Diaz of Tucson; Daughters, Frances (Albert) Barrios of Tucson, Mary (Ubaldo) Soriano of Pomona, California and Frances (David) Molina of Douglas; granddaughters, Lupita and Marisa Maytorena and Karina Salazar, Grandson, Frank Maytorena. Also surviving are 9 great-grandchildren.

A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 12 Noon on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Luis N. Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Pallbearers who will serve are Ubaldo Soriano, Albert Barrios, Frank Maytorena, Oscar Diaz and Enrique Barcelo.

Helen Brick

Helen Brick of Pomerene, Arizona died at home November 27, 1998.

She lived in the vicinity for 15 years. she lived in Arizona 18 years. She previously lived in Elfrida, Arizona and Toledo, Ohio.

She was born January 2, 1920 in Toledo Ohio.

She was U.S. Post Office retired, wife, mother, grandmother.

She had two years of business college.

There will be no services.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Brick of Pomerene; sons H. Paul Brick of Pomerene, Tom L. Brick of Elfrida; two brothers, William Schwerkosk of Benson and Clarence Scwerkoske of Toledo; three sisters, Olga Klepacz of Toledo, E. Sie Bahls, Walbridge, Ohio, Frida Hubbell of Toledo, Ohio and two grandchildren.

Estelle C. Beumler

Mrs. Estelle C. Beumler, long-time resident of Douglas and Portal, passed away November 28, 1998 at her home in Portal.

Mrs. Beumler was born November 11, 1912 in Carbon, Texas, the third of eleven children. She and her family moved to Arizona in 1915, living first in the McNary area and later in Coolidge.

She became a resident of Douglas following her marriage to Douglas attorney Henry W. Beumler in 1939. She resided in Douglas until 1978, when she and Henry retired to Portal.

Mrs. Beumler was a member of Delta Zeta sorority, the Grace United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, having been Worthy Matron of both Border Chapter No. 15 in Douglas and White Mountain Chapter No. 8 in Globe.

Mrs. Beumler graduated from the university of Arizona in 1936. At the time of her graduation she was named Best Sports girl and was awarded her "A" Sweater and an "A" blanket.

Following her marriage in 1939, Mrs. Beumler taught for three years in Elfrida. She then became a full-time housewife to raise her three sons and one daughter.

While she was a housewife she hosted several popular radio shows for KAWT and served as Den Mother for three succeeding dens of Cub Scouts for her three sons.

She returned to teaching in 1967 at Faras School in Pirtleville, where in addition to her normal teaching schedule, she initiated a novel physical education program through a Girl's Athletic Association.

The program introduced the girls to such varied sports as badminton, archery, soccer, golf and ping pong as well as teaching the girls sportsmanship and leadership.

Mrs. Beumler remained exceedingly proud of "her girls" and their later accomplishments. She retired from teaching in 1978 as the head teacher at Faras School.

Mrs. Beumler is survived by her husband, Henry W. Beumler, a former mayor of Douglas; two of her sons, Col. Henry C. Beumler, Ret. of Bowie, Maryland, Maj. timothy C. Beumler, Ret of Tucson; and her daughter Candyce B. Pardee of globe. Her son Edward C. Beumler, a lieutenant in the Pima County Sheriff's Department, preceded her in death. She is also survived by three of her five brothers, three of her five sisters, five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998 at Grace United Methodist church in Douglas with Reverend Ray Sandler presiding.

Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery in the Chiracahua Mountains. Brown Page Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

The family requests donations to the Grand Chapter of Eastern Star for the Easterl Fund for the training of religious leaders, the Scholarship fund, or the Heart and Cancer Fund in her memory. Donations can be sent to the Grand Chapter at P.O. Box 26941, Phoenix, AZ 85608-6941. Alternative donations may be made to Portal Rescue, Inc., General Delivery, Portal, AZ 85632.

Stella Bell Michael

Stella Bell Michael of Wimberley, Texas passed away December 1, 1998 at the age of 76. She was born on October 14, 1922 in New Haven, Illinois to Aaron and Mary McGhee.

Ms. Michael was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Geo Michael. She is survived by her two sons, Patrick Geo Michael and wife Rhonda, Kevin Michael and wife Kathy; three daughters, Mary H. Davis Winkler and husband Bob, Yvonne L. Davis Pashia and husband Paul, Linda M. Michael and husband David; two brothers, Robert and Jim McGhee; nineteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren, as well as many cousins, relatives and friends.

Services are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in San Marcos. The family will be receiving friends and visitors at the Thomason Funeral Home in Wimberley from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3.

Arrangements under the direction of Thomason Funeral Home, San Marcos/Wimberley, Texas.

William A. Smith

William "Bill" A. Smith, Jr., a native of Arizona, passed away on Nov. 28, 1998. Cause of death was heart failure. Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 5, 1998 at Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Bill Smith was born November 22, 1919 in Clifton, Arizona. He was a veteran of WWII. He retired from the Phelps Dodge Corporation having worked in Morenci, Bisbee, Ajo, Douglas and Phoenix. His community activities while in Douglas included past president of the Chamber of Commerce, "Man of the Year" in 1967, past president of the YMCA, past president of Rotary Club, treasurer of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, board member of Salvation Army, Arizona Diamond D.E.C.A., Boy Scouts, and American Red Cross.

He enjoyed people wherever he went. During retirement he enjoyed his family and renewing old friendships through travel and correspondence.

He also assisted in the Morenci-Clifton High School reunions. He will be dearly missed by family and friends in our hearts and our lives.

At his request donations should be sent to St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Douglas, Beatitudes Foundations, 1610 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85021, or the Salvation Army in Douglas.

Mr. Smith is survived by a daughter Margaret E. Pool of Bonita, CA, a son William A. Smith III of Fairfield, CA, sister Mary Margaret Smith and brother James M. Smith of Phoenix, twin sister Alice Rebecca Horton of El Cajon, CA, grandchildren Marian, Vanessa, John and David Pool, and Eric, Diane and Michelle Smith.

Petra Olivas Ramirez

Mrs. Petra Olivas Ramirez of Douglas died December 3, 1998 at the Douglas Manor Care Center.

Mrs. Ramirez was born February 16, 1900 in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. She had been an Arizona resident for the past 96 years. Mrs. Ramirez was preceded in death by her husband, Dolores Ramirez, daughter, Maria Dolores Alvarez and her grandson, Francisco Miguel Lopez.

She is survived by her daughter, Aurelia Lopez of Tucson, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.

A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Brown Page Mortuary Chapeo. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Luis N. Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff at the Douglas Manor Care Center for the last 9 years of her life.
