Billie Jean Hamilton


Billie Jean Hamilton of Willcox died Dec. 3, 2004 at the age of 75.

She was born in Tempe on Nov. 13, 1929, to Cortis William and Elsie Mae (Stewart) Currie.

Billie moved to Willcox in 1952, and lived most of her life in Arizona.

She served on the Cochise County Election Board for many years and was a member of Church of the Nazarene in Willcox.

Billie owned and operated Hamilton Recreation Center and Bus Station.

Survivors include her sons Kenny, Mike and Randy, all of Willcox, and Eric (Kathy) of Tombstone, along with 11 grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

Also surviving is her brother Dave Currie of Willcox; and her sister Jerrie Addington of Weatherford, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter on June 29, 2002, a brother Tom, and her parents.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Westlawn Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 10 a.m., at Westlawn Chapel.

Entombment will be at Sunset Mausoleum.

Contributions may be made to the Charles Wm. Leighton, Jr. Hospice, 319 W. Grant, Willcox, Ariz., 85643.

Services are under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox.

Marvin E. Gasho III

1959 - 2004

Marvin E. Gasho III entered, into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Nov. 2, 2004, in Sunsites.

He was born on June 22, 1959, the eldest son of Ann and Marvin E. Gasho Jr., in Tucson.

A lifelong resident of Arizona, Marvin was a 1976 graduate of Santa Rita High School and attended the University of Arizona.

An entrepreneur by nature, Marvin managed several cattle ranches and was involved in various other businesses.

He is survived by his daughter Megan Gasho of Sierra Vista; father Marvin E. Gasho Jr., of Thornfield, Mo.; brothers Darryl and William, of Chino Valley, and David of Tucson; grandmother Alice Gasho of Tucson; five stepchildren; and 17 nieces and nephews.

A memorial, service was held at First Baptist Church, in Sunizona, on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m.

Stella Cale Sanchez


Stella Cale Sanchez, of Willcox, died Dec. 10, 2004, in Tucson at the age of 78.

She was born in Masontown, W. Va., on Feb. 14, 1926, to Russell and Minnie (Neff) Gamble.

Stella graduated from Masontown High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Mount Zion Church in West Virginia, Windham Nazarene Church in Ohio and Wynne Chapel in Richland Ranchettes (Cochise).

While at Wynne Chapel, she served in many capacities, from serving on the church board to being missionary president.

She will be solely missed at Wynne Chapel because her love for the church was shown many times over.

On May 12, 1945, she married Bodie Cale.

He preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1981.

On July 9, 1983, in Windham, Ohio, she married Lupe Sanchez and moved to Willcox.

Survivors include her husband, Lupe, of Willcox; sons, Bodie (Sharon) Cale, Jr. and John (Cindy) Cale, both of Akron, Ohio, and Ralph (Bonnie) Cale of Massillon, Ohio; her daughters, Sandy (John) Patti of Windham, Ohio, Sharon (Kevin) Manhl of Mascot, Tenn., and Shelley (Bo) Thurmond of Windham, Ohio; along with 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Stella was one of 15 children in her family, six have preceded her in death, and the following survive: brothers Wayne Gamble of Masontown, W. Va., and Calvin Gamble of Reedsville, W. Va., her sisters Dorothy Taylor of Morgantown, W. Va., Maxine Hawley and Myrtle Calvert, both of Kingwood, W. Va., Francis Cale and Dolly Cale, both of Masontown, W. Va., and Jeannette Stuhl of Reedsville, W. Va.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Westlawn Chapel, with funeral services on Thursday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m., at Wynne Chapel.

Cremation will follow the service at Westlawn Crematorium.

Contributions may be made to Wynne Chapel Sanchez Memorial Fund, 374 E. Richland Way, Cochise, Ariz., 85606.

Services are under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox.

Clayton L. Krontz


Clayton L. Krontz, of Richland Ranchettes (Cochise), died Dec. 7, 2004, at the age of 80.

He was born in Butler, Ind., on Nov. 10, 1924, to Delbert and Hazel May (Mock) Krontz.

Clayton was a retired punch operator and moved to Richland Ranchettes in 1979.

Clayton served in the U.S. Army during WW II and received the Purple Heart.

He was a member of American Legion Post #24 in Tombstone and a member of Wynne Chapel.

Survivors include his daughters Judy (Terry) Andrews of Richland Ranchettes, Marie (Mike) Blanton of Ashley, Ind., and Mary "Peanut" Tremmel of Sunsites; and his sons Michael of Bonifar, Fla., and Philip of Bunker Hill, Ind., along with 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are his sisters Sadie Hug of Calif., Alice Houlton and Joan Wehmer both of Indiana; and his brothers Kenny of Florida, and Floyd of Indiana.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Waneta " Skeeter", on April 29, 2000; and his parents.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m., at Wynne Chapel in Richland Ranchettes, with burial to follow in Pearce cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the Charles Wm. Leighton, Jr. Hospice, 319 W. Grant, Willcox, Ariz., 85643.

Services were under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox.

Ruth Mary Torralba


Ruth Mary Torralba, 61, devoted and beloved wife, mother, and friend of her community, passed away in Tucson, on Oct. 22, 2004.

Born on April 28, 1943, Ruth graduated from Holy Cross School of Nursing and the University of Phoenix.

Ruth was a chief nurse at Desert Dialysis, Tucson, when she retired in March 1993.

Previously, she served as an ER nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson, after relocating to Tucson from Anderson, Ind., where she served as an ER nurse at St. John's Hospital.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, B. Franklin Riffe and Marcella Sweeney Riffe, and by her brother Michael C. Riffe (widow Margaret).

Ruth is survived by her husband, Alfredo F. Torralba; children, Gretchen Campbell Cordova of Tucson, Adrian Campbell Comett, of Indianapolis, Ind., Homero Torralba (Jessica Parra), and Alfredo Torralba, Jr., of Tucson; grandchildren, Linsy, Travis, McCauleigh, of Indianapolis, Ind., Brianna, Sophia Ruth, Adam, Paola, Mia, Alfredo, Feliz, and Zoe; brothers William B. Riffe (Phyllis) of Anderson, Ind., Richard C. Riffe (Susan) of Bettsville, Md., Patrick J. Riffe (Dawn) of Muncie, Ind.; and sister Gerimane R. Mclaughlin, of Muncie, Ind.

Perhaps Ruth will best be remembered for her final gift: The unselfish donation of her physical remains to scientific study in hopes that a cure for MS might one day be found.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Foundation.

Vondell Draper

1920 - 2004

Vondell Draper of Willcox died Nov. 14, 2004, in her home at the age of 84.

She was born in Henryetta, Okla., on Jan. 18, 1920, to Alston and Luella (Carr) Black.

Vondell moved to Willcox in 1994 from California. She was a retired waitress.

Survivors include her daughter Beverly Leimbach of Willcox, and a grandson Wesley Bruce Leimbach of California.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m., at Sunset cemetery in Willcox.

Contributions may be made to the Charles Wm. Leighton, Jr. Hospice, 319 W. Grant St., Willcox, Ariz.

Services are under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox.

Elizabeth Ditmars

1906 - 2004

Elizabeth Ditmars, of Willcox, died Dec. 8, 2004, at the age of 97.

She was born on Dec. 14, 1906 on the Gus Moore Ranch near Willcox to Gus and Lucy (Riggs) Moore.

Elizabeth was from an Arizona pioneer ranching family and grew up on the ranch.

She lived her entire life in Arizona.

She graduated from Northern Arizona University and was a schoolteacher for Willcox Public Schools from which she retired.

Elizabeth was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Willcox Cowbelles.

Survivors include her niece Mindy (Barry) Scott of Phoenix; sister-in-law Dorothy Moore of Willcox; great-nieces Elizabeth (John) Ralph and Mary Kate Scott, both of Phoenix, and Tina (Bill) Whittemore of Tucson; and great-nephews Andrew Scott of Phoenix, David (Amanda) Moore of Tucson, and Bill (Marianne) Moore of Tucson, along with several other nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Fred, in 1960; her parents; three brothers and two sisters.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m., at Westlawn Chapel.

Cremation was conducted at Westlawn Crematorium with her cremains to be buried with her husband in Sunset cemetery at a later date.

Contributions may be made to the Charles Wm. Leighton, Jr. Hospice, 319 W. Grant, Willcox, Ariz., 85643.

Services are under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox.
