Vivian Seaberg, 87, died April 2, 2002, in Issaquah, Washington. She was born September 9, 1914, in Douglas. She married E.T. "Swede" Seaberg in 1939. The couple lived in Ajo for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter. She is survived by her grandchildren and other family members.

Francis Thomas "Frank" Alexander, 57, died June 12, 2002, in Virginia. He was a native of Ajo who served over twenty years in the Navy; after retiring he began as second career as a truck driver. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Alexander, and by other family members. Services were held in Virginia.

Mary B. Lunsford died June 25, 2002, in Tucson. She was born July 15, 1917, in upstate New York. She lived in Ajo for 42 years. She is survived by her sons and daughter and other family members. Services were private.

Eufemia Patino, 92, died June 9, 2002, in Phoenix. She was born March 20, 1910, in Jarapitio, Guanajuato, Mexico, to Calletane and Antonio Calderon. She came to Ajo in 1923 and married Juan Patino in 1939. She lived here until moving to Phoenix in 1988. She was preceded in death by her husband; she is survived by her sons and daughters and many other family members. Serivces were held June 14 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; burial was next to her husband in Ajo Cemetery.

Mary Ella Johnson died June 11, 2002, in a Las Vegas, Nevada, hospice. She worked in telecommunications for 45 years, the last five with Table Top Telephone. She is survived by her sons, daughter, and other family members. Her ashes will be spread in Utah.

Sianna Charley, 62, died June 6, 2002, in Mesa. she was born on October 14, 1939, in Goodyear Village. She was an education program coordinator. She is survived by her sons, daughters, and other family members. Funeral services were held in Gila Crossing on June 14 with burial in Snaketown Cemetery. Memorial services were held in Ajo on June 17 at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church.

Dina Fejarang, 20, died May 26., 2002, in an accident in Puerto Peņasco, Mexico. She was born December 19, 1981, in Guam, the daughter of Carol (Pacheco) and Peter Paul Fejarang. She came to Ajo from California as a toddler in 1984 and grew up here. She was preparing to enter Apollo College. She is survived by many family members. Mass was celebrated in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on June 1; burial was in the Ajo Cemetery.

Bill J. Powers, 80, died May 14, 2002, in Scottsdale. He was born September 7, 1921, in Tacoma, Washington, to Kathryn (Hazeltine) and William H. Powers. He served in the US Marine Corps for fifteen years and then entered civil service, retiring in 1982. He married Marvella Olsen McBride in 1983. For the past nine years they have had a winter home in Ajo and a summer home in Washington. He is survived by his wife, by his children from a previous marriage, and other family members. A memorial service will be held in Washington.

Kathleen Rose Cohin, 80, died at her home in Ajo on March 1, 2002. She was born March 7, 1921, in Oran, Missouri, to Julia Kathleen (Houch) and John Calvin Rodenberry. She came to Ajo in 1946. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Dale Lane & Andrew Cohin. She is survived by her son, step-son, and many other family members. Services were held in Ajo Calvary Baptist Church, burial was in the Ajo Cemetery.

Roy Troy Riley, 85, died at his home in Phoenix on February 24, 2002. He was born November 7, 1916, in Haskell, Texas, to Lillie Bell & William B. Riley. He moved to Ajo as a young man. He married Charleen Golding in 1939. In 1979 he retired from Phelps Dodge with a perfect attendance record after 42 years of employment. He was preceded in death by his wife. He is survived by his son, daughter, and many other family members. Services were held in the Ajo Federated Church; burial was next to his wife in the Ajo Cemetery.

Martha Childs Celaya, 84, died February 26, 2002, in Tucson. She was born in Ajo on June 17, 1917, to Ajo pioneer Tom Childs Jr. and Martha Lopez. She married Jose P. Celaya. She is survived by her sons and daughters and by many other family members. Services were held at Douglass Funeral Home; burial was at Childs Ranch.

Imogene M. Martin, 76, died September 9, 2001, in Santaquin, Utah. She was born in Ajo on July 29, 1925, to Noel R. and Cora Mae (Whitten) Fincher. She was a graduate of Ajo High School and went on to Pasadena College in California. She married Dewey Martin in 1945. Services were held on September 10 at Holladay Hills Funeral Home; burial was in Santaquin City Cemetery in Utah.

Winston B. Wells, 70, died September 25, 2002, in Mesa. He was born in Douglas on April 1, 1932, the son of Agnes (Blalack) and Arthur B. Wills, and was brought to Ajo in 1935. He was an Army veteran. He married Ruth Christiansen in 1955. He worked for Phelps Dodge until 1984 when he retired as a shovel repair foreman. The couple moved to Chander in 2001. He is survived by his wife, his sons and daughters, and other family members. Services were held in Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church; burial was in Ajo Cemetery.

Wanda Williams, 74, died Monday, September 23, 2002. She was the daughter of Effie and William Sparkman. She grew up in Ajo and married Ray A. Williams in 1947. The couple have lived in Tempe for 43 years. She is survived by her husband, son, and many other family members. Services were held in Tempe.

Thelma Leinard, 90, died October 2, 2002, in Tucson. She was born in Flint, Michigan, on August 23, 1912, to Fleata Bella and Charles Hodges. She came to Why in 1984 and married Robert Leinard in 1988. She was active in trying to start an Assembly of God Church in Why. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Greenman, who died in 1978, and by Robert Leinard, who died in 1999. She is survived by her siblings and other family members. Private services are being planned.

Wanda J. Farmer, 79, died October 2, 2002, in Tucson. She was born February 21, 1923, in Lordsburg, New Mexico, to Martha Elizabeth (Bates) and Aris Patterson. She came to Ajo in 1936 and married Loranza B. Farmer in 1938. The two made Ajo their home the rest of their lives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ranze Farmer, who died in March 2002. She is survived by her son and daughter and other family members. Services were held in the Ajo Federated Church; burial was in the Ajo Cemetery.

Margaret "Peggy" Robertson, 77, died March 7, 2002, in Safford. She was born December 8, 1924, in New Rochelle, New York, the daughter of Luther & Francis Johnson Bell. She married John Robertson in Nevada in 1950. They lived in Ajo from 1974 to 1998 when they moved to Thatcher. Mrs. Robertson is survived by her husband, daughter, son, and other family members. Services were held in Thatcher with burial in the Thatcher Cemetery.

Ailene Campbell, 86, died June 2, 2002, at her home in Ajo. She was born February 10, 1916, in Searcy, Arkansas, to Maudie (Neal) and Henry Walls. She married Oran Campbell in California in 1949. They moved to Ajo in 1975. She is survived by her husband and many family members. Private services are being planned.

Albert H. "Al" Fenn, 81, died April 26, 2002, in Tucson. He was born June 29, 1920, in Lubbock, Texas, to Robert & Winnie Fenn. A locksmith, he came to Ajo from Quartzite in 1992 and soon established himself as the community's "key man". He is survived by his companion, Gladys Anderson of Ajo, by his former wife, and by his children. Memorial services were held at the Veterans Administration.

Ella Mae Oglesby, 82, died June 16, 2002, in Safford. she was born march 22, 1920, in Quinton, Oklahoma, to Ann (Hendrix) and Bert Lollis. she came to Ajo in 1936 and married Everette Oglesby in 1953. she left Ajo in June 1993 when she moved to Safford. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her son, step sons and stepdaughters, and many other family members. Graveside services were held in the Ajo Cemetery.

Martha Mohon, 80, died June 17, 2002, in Santa Clara, New Mexico. she was born December 24, 1921, in Emmett, Arkansas, to Phlander and Etta (Stewart) Cromer. She married George Mohon on December 16, 1939, in Arkansas. The couple moved to Ajo in 1952. She worked for several years as a clerk at Shoppers Market and Ajo Variety Store. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her sons, her daughter, and many other family members. Graveside services were held in the Ajo Cemetery.

Norma Carrera Garcia died at her home in Mesa. She was born in Ajo in 1941. She taught at Tempe and Marcos de Niza High Schools from 1967 to 2002. She is survived by her husband, Miguel A. Garcia, by her daughters, and by many other family members.

Charlotte Lewis McNeilis, 82, died June 18, 2002, in Tucson. She was born December 15, 1919, in Anaconda, Montana, to Elizabeth (Dunn) and Evan Garrett Lewis. She lived in Ajo for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis McNeilis, and her son Chuck Ren. She is survived by her sons and daughter, he stepson, and other family members. A memorial service was held in Tucson.

Charlotte Hopper, 91, died June 12, 2002, in Portland, Oregon. A teacher, she taught in Ajo before moving to Tucson where she join the faculty of Tucson High School. She retired in 1976. No service information was available.

Harriet Thomas Dittsworth, 84, died July 19, 2002, in Yakima, Washington. She was born August 2, 1917, in Menomonie, Wisconsin, to John & Emelia (Hawkinson) Mitlyng. She and her first husband, John Thomas, owned Columbia Basin Flag & Decorating in Yakima. After his death she began traveling, settling in Why where she married Emil Dittsworth. At the time of her death she was again residing in Yakima. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands; she is survived by her daughters and other family members. Graveside services were held in Yakima.

Cecil Garner Talboy, 86, died June 6, 2002, at his home in Why. He was born July 17, 1915, in Carlisle, Iowa, to Benjamin & Pansy (Hickle) Talboy. He moved to Why from Weiser in 1958 and married Mildred L. Byers in Sonoyta, Mexico, in 1972. He was a surveyor and later worked at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. He was an Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, his daughter, and other family members. Private services are planned.

Charles Camarillo, 68, died July 19, 2002, in Loma Linda, California. He was born November 16, 1933. in Brawley, California, to Julia (Sanchez Lozano) and Jose Degado Camarillo. He served in the Air Force. He lived in Ajo for many years, working for Phelps Dodge as a power plant engineer when he retired in 1984. He married Guadalupe Delatorre in 1955 in Ajo. In California he worked for the Teamsters Union. He is survived by his wife, sons, and many other family members. Mass was celebrated in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; burial was in Ajo Cemetery.

Kristopher William Eggle, 28, a US Park Ranger, died in the line of duty on Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument near Ajo on Friday, August 9, 2002. He was born in Charlevoix, Michigan, on august 15, 1973, to Bonnie L. (Gee) and Robert Eggle. He grew up in Cadillac, Michigan. After attending the University of Michigan, he became a ranger for the National Park Service. He is survived by his parents, his grandparents, his sister, and by many other family members. Services were held in Ajo Calvary Baptist Church on August 12 and services were also planned for his hometown in Michigan where he will be buried.

Elizabeth Holloway McKay died in August 15, 2002, in Flagstaff. She was born in Georgia on April 29, 1913. She lived in Ajo most of her adult life, moving to Flagstaff two years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Glenn McKay. She is survived by her sons and many other family members. Services were held August 18 in Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Ajo.

William Barles Arviso, 64, died July 29, 2002, in Casa Grande Regional Medical Center. he was born April 22, 1938, in Yuma, to Elena (Barles) and William G. Arviso. He was a lifetime resident of Arizona and served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a heavy equipment operator. He is survived by his wife, Clara Mattia Arviso, by his sons and daughters, and by many other family members. Services were held at Glad Tiding Church in Casa Grande on August 3; burial was in the family plot in Ajo Cemetery.

David Andrew Camarillo, 42, died Wednesday, August 21, 2002, at his home in Ajo. He was born in Ajo on November 14, 1959, to Guadalupe (Delatorre) and Carlos Camarillo. He was a meat cutter and most recently worked for the public schools in maintenance and as a bus driver. He is survived by his wife Vicky, by his mother, his son and daughters, and many other family members. Services were held in the Full Gospel Fellowship Church on August 28; burial was in the Ajo Cemetery.

Frank Sanora, 75, died in Mesa on August 15, 2002. He was born in Ajo on August 11, 1927, to Carlotta (Corella) and Jose Sanora. He worked as a plumber for Phelps Dodge and later the University of Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Consuelo Castro Sanora, by his son and daughters, and many other family members.

Josephine Wertz, 75, died in Colorado on August 23, 2002. She was born December 15, 1926, in Tulsa Oklahoma, to Sylvia (Scanlon) and Arthur Price Bandy. She was a sheep and cattle rancher in Colorado before retiring in 1990. She was a winter resident of Ajo and a summer resident of Loveland, Colorado. She is survived by her daughters and other family members. Services will be held in Colorado on August 29.

Scott Lee McCandless, 35, died at his home in La Junta, Colorado, on August 22, 2002. He was born in Tucson on December 26, 1966, to Dan & Sharon McCandless who are now residents of Why. He worked in the retail furniture trade. He is survived by his parents, siblings, and many other family members. Services were held in Colorado on August 10.

Atanacia M. Castillo, 92, died August 29, 2002, in Tucson. She was born August 28, 1910, in Mexico to Macaria (Nogales) and Epigminio Melendrez. She came to Ajo in 1914 and married Remberto Castillo in 1928. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, and a daughter; she is survived by three sons and a daughter. Mass was celebrated in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; burial was in the Ajo Cemetery.

Ray L. Price, 70, died August 30, 2002, in Washington. He was born March 9, 1932, in Anson, Texas, to Joe and Opha Lee Price. The family later moved to Ajo where he grew up. He was Navy veteran. He married Carolyn Homewood in Douglas in 1957. He was employed by Phelps Dodge and later owned gun shops in Sierra Vista and in Washington. Services were held in Washington.

Benjamin G. "Benny" Pino, 46, died September 18, 2002, in Phoenix. He was born in Ajo on May 4, 1956, to Bertha and Francisco C. Pino. He was a lifetime resident of Ajo and worked as a heavy equipment operator. He married Kayley Burchfield in 1996. He his survived by his wife, by his children and stepchildren, and other family members. Mass was celebrated in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on September 23.

John Robinson, 75, died May 24, 2002, in Phoenix. He was a resident of Ajo and Minnesota. He is survived by his wife, Betty Sorenson of Ajo and Minnesota, and by other family members. Memorial services were held in Ajo in May and in Roseau, Minnesota, in July.

Lorene Doughty, 84, died October 20, 2002, in Tucson. She was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, on July 19, 1918, to W.A. and Birdie (Gilbert) Green. She was a longtime resident of Ajo who was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Doughty. She is survived by her daughters and other family members. No service information was available.

James Earl Thomas, 67, of Sahuraita, died October 10, 2002, in Tucson. He was born September 1, 1935, in Texas to Allen and Barbara (Orean) Thomas. He came to Ajo from Temple in 1951 and worked for Phelps Dodge for about 13 years. He later made a career in the civil service. He married Ruth Elaine Barnes in 1965. He is survived by his wife, by his son and daugthers, and by other family members. Services were held in Green Valley.

Guadalupe G. Leon, 73, died October 23, 2002, at her home in Tucson. She was born May 19, 1929, in Litchfield. She came to Ajo from Mexico in 1942 and lived here for the next 60 years. She married Jose Maria "Shorty" Leon. A homemaker, she was known to her friends as Lupita. She is survived by her husband, by her son and daughter, and by other family members. Services were held In St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Tucson; burial was in Holy Hope Cemetery.

Nettie Decker, 91, died October 28, 2002, in Phoenix. She was born March 12, 1911, in Texas to Carrie (Coker) and Joseph Elledge. She married Ruben Decker in Texas. She moved to Ajo in 1944 and lived here the rest of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her son and daughters and other family members. Services were held in the Douglass Funeral Home; burial was in the Ajo Cemetery.

James E. Brown, 72, died October 27, 2002, at his home in Why. He was born November 9, 1929, in Oregon to Bernice (Cox) and Waldo Brown. He was a machinist and worked for a computer company before his retirement. he moved to Why from Colorado in 1974 and soon was sharpening knives and fixing tools for his friends and neighbors. He is survived by his daughter and other family members. Memorial services were held in the LDS church in Ajo; burial was next to his parents in the Ajo Cemetery.
