Joe Spano, 93, passed away January 10, 2004 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. He was born to Richard and Frances (Notoriano) Spano on April 19, 1910 in Pennsylvania.

Joe made Lake Havasu his home 6 years ago, moving here from Montebello, CA where he was a self employed cabinet maker for 50 plus years.

He was a member of the NRA, the Carpenters Union, Elks Lodge, the ABC (American Bowling Association) and was known to be an avid bowler.

Joe is survived by his loving family, son, Richard Spano and his wife, Suzanne of Lake Havasu; daughter, Carol Hauerwaas and her husband Ronald of Tehachapi, CA; sisters, Ann Papa of Rochester, NY, Eleanor Haze of Lake Elsinore, CA, Virginia Simard of Lake Havasu, Sarah Howell of Oceanside, CA and Sylvia Stevens of Corona, CA. He will also be dearly missed by his six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews

Funeral services will take place at Lietz-Fraze Chapel, Wednesday, January 14, 10:00 AM. Interment will be held at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA, Friday, January 16, 2004.

Donations are requested to go to the Havasu Cancer Association, 2126 McCulloch Blvd., Ste. 7, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403 or to a charity of choice.

Joe was very much loved and respected and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The world just lost a true gentleman!

Alice May Morrison, 77, passed away on January 8, 2004 at Kingman Regional Medical Center in Kingman, Az. She was born on December 22, 1926 in Whitesville, Ky.

Alice moved to Lake Havasu City, Az; 5 years ago from Whittier, Ca. She worked as a nurse for Fullerton Memorial Hospital in Fullerton, Ca. for 25 years. Alice was a member of the Reorganized Church of Later Day Saints in California and Michigan. When she moved to Arizona, she joined the Calvary Baptist Church. She loved making ceramics, playing games, especially Scrabble, but mainly she loved and was proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons Tim Garvrick and wife Rhoda of Gross Point, Mi, Tom Morrison and wife Donna of Lake Havasu City, Az; Bob Morrison and wife Karen of Lake Havasu City, Az; daughter Mary Morrison of Reno, Nv; sister Kate Farmer of Fairfield, Ca; grandchildren Janine Garvrick, Todd Garvrick, Kimberly Thompson, Teri Ann Edgecomb, Jody Cutcher, Jandi Morrison, Sean Morrison, Christopher Morrison, Timothy Morrison, Scott Morrison, Aaron and Katrina Bolanos, great grandchildren Kyra and Conner Thompson, Chayton and Takoda Garvrick, Eric, Michael and Logan Edgecomb. She was preceded in by her son Lyman Taylor Morrison.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2004 at Calvary Baptist Church in Lake Havasu City, Az; at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Chad Garrison officiating.

William Ward Nowotny, 75, passed away January 5, 2004 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. He was born to Clarence and Beatrice (Ward) Nowotny on March 3, 1928 in Denver, CO.

William had been a frequent visitor of the Colorado River area for the past 15 years, visiting from Cortez, CO. For 42 years, he was the manager of City Market and a member of the Elks Lodge and Lions Club in Cortez.

He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of almost 53 years, Harriet; son, Thomas Neil Nowotny; daughter, Sharon Kay Nowotny; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren and another on the way.

Memorial services are to be held at River Lodge in Parker Dam, CA on Saturday, January 10, 11:00 AM with Louie Marsh officiating.

Donations are requested to go in his name to Citizens State Bank of Cortez, PO Drawer T, Cortez, CO 81321. A charity will be decided at a later date.

Frances G. Brown, 66, passed away on January 5, 2004 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. She was born on January 7, 1937 in Woonsocket, RI.

Frances moved to Lake Havasu City, 29 years ago from Scituate, MA. Frances enjoyed painting and crafts. She was a member of the Queen Bay Queens, Happy Niners, Emerald Canyon Ladies Golf and a charter member of local Experimental Aircraft Association and performed her solo flight in 1978.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Ed Brown of Lake Havasu City, AZ; son Terry Brown and wife Teresa of Lake Havasu City, AZ; daughter Cindy Macis and husband Tony of Lake Havasu City, AZ; brother Bill Chasteen and wife Ellen of South Carolina and 4 grandchildren.

Private family services will be held.

Frances Josephine Cameron, 76, passed away on January 5th, 2004 at Havasu Regional Medical Center in Lake Havasu City, AZ. She was born on March 3lst 1927 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan,Canada.

Frances moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ; 24 years ago from Hibbing, MN. She worked as a registered nurse for Hibbing General Hospital in Hibbing, MN.; for 30 years.

She is survived by her daughter Colleen Lloyd of Woodbury, MN; Michele Cameron of Frederic, WI; and 4 grandchildren.

Arrangements were entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.


Donna Marie Zern passed away on Wednesday December 31, 2003 in Kingman, Arizona. She was born on March 2, 1957 to George and Bernice Lam in St. Louis, Missouri. Donna was a long time resident of Kingman, settling here the first time in 1983. From 1992 to 1996 she lived in Albuquerque and Dallas, but her heart was in Kingman. She moved back in 1996 and lived here ever since. She is survived by her loving parents, George and Bernice, who also live in Kingman, her younger sister, Nancy of San Diego, California, her twin brothers, Bill who lives in Mount Vernon, Washington and Toby who resides in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, and her three adoring children, Tamara Broadbent of Kingman, Timothy Poe and Billy Poe of Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

Donna was co-owner of Mohave Estate Management Offices (MEMO) located in Kingman. Her passion was helping people and she lived it every day of her life. She spent her time and energy ensuring the welfare of her clients and provided guardianship over their estates. As the oldest of four children, she selflessly provided guidance and support to family members, truly living her faith in God daily.

She was a prominent member of the Kingman community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce. President of KAAP and President of the local chapter of the Make a Wish Foundation. She was also a member of the task force of Aiding Elder People, the Emergence Association, the National Guardian Association and the Arizona Fiduciary Association. She attended First Assembly of God Church in Kingman.

As a Daughter, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Niece and Friend, Donna will be missed. We celebrate her life, her love and her legacy at First Assembly of God Church, Tuesday January 6, 2004 at 2:00 p.m..

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Donna Marie Memorial Fund at Mission Bank.

Donna M. Douglas passed away on January 1, 2004 in Queen Creek, AZ. She was born April 27, 1937 to Clarence O. and Grace E. Helgeson at Fargo, N.D.

Donna attended schools in Oregon and Idaho. She graduated from Beauty School in Idaho and practiced Cosmetology until June of 1955. She retired from Pace Dairy at Rochester, MN in 1994. After her retirement she and her husband spent their winters in Quartzsite, AZ before purchasing their home in Lake Havasu City. Donna enjoyed cooking, reading, bowling and spending time with her family.

Donna was a Hospice of Havasu volunteer and attended Hilltop Community Church. Her strong faith and the prayers of many helped her through her illness.

She was preceded in death by her father, a sister, one niece, one nephew and one step-granddaughter.

Donna is survived by her mother, Grace E. Kamperman of Lake Havasu; husband Clifford C. Douglas of Lake Havasu; five children, Edward L. Smith of Spokane, WA, Cynthia M. Nichols and her husband David of Queen Creek, AZ, Carolyn M. Unger and her husband Ronald of Kasson, MN, William Douglas and his wife Janel of Luck WI and Richard O. Douglas of Rochester, MN; four step-children, Grace Ann Straight and her husband Rodney of Spokane, WA, Cliff A. Douglas of Rochester, MN, Jerry L. Douglas and his wife Bonnie of Canton, MN and David W. Douglas and his wife Donna of Goldsboro, NC; two brothers, Robert O. Helgeson and his wife Delores of Veradale, WA and James C. Helgeson and his wife Roxanne of Coeur dí Alene, ID. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Hilltop Community Church on Wednesday, January 7, 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to go to Hospice of Havasu, PO Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405.

Donna was a kind and loving person, she will be missed her family and many friends.
