Gladys D. Herman

Family and friends are invited to a visitation for Gladys D. Herman, 94, of Vacaville from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held at Oar Park Cemetery in Claremont later in the week. Interment will follow the services at the cemetery.

Mrs. Herman died on Jan. 7, 2000, at her home in Vacaville after a long illness.

Born on Dec. 31, 1905, in Rochester, N.Y., she lived in Vacaville for the past six years. She and her husband moved to California in 1965 to be closer to their grandchildren.

She worked as a purchasing supervisor for a men's clothing store. She loved to read, write, cook and was especially fond of playing the piano, singing and laughing.

Mrs. Herman is survived by her grandchildren, Laurel Macpherson of Vacaville, Leila Macpherson of Port Hueneme, Heather Wilety of Sacramento and Lance Macpherson of Montclair; and nephews, Richard and Bill Dixon, both of Rochester, N.Y., and Harold Dixon of Rockville, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Clarence, in 1986; and her daughter, Eileen, in 1974.

William C. Ozbun

Funeral services for William C. Ozbun, 74, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fairmont Memorial Park.

Pastor Michael McCamey will officiate. Entombment will be in Fairmont Memorial Park.

Mr. Ozbun died Jan. 7, 2000, in Vaca Valley Hospital after a long illness.

Born April 18, 1925, in Belaire, Mo., he lived in Solano County for 44 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Pacific campaign of World War II from 1943 to 1945.

As an auto mechanic, he worked for both Lane Buick and Chet Monez Ford. He retired from Chet Monez Ford after 10 years of employment. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield; Masonic Lodge; Landmark Buckeye Lodge No. 195, Esparto; and Suisun Chapter No. 2 Eastern Star.

Mr. Ozbun is survived by his wife, Norma of Vacaville; daughters, Gwen Harbison of Sacramento and Dana Tatham of Suisun; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Bogart of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and D'Ann of Vacaville; sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Rusty Rindt of White City, Kan.; brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Virginia of Aurora, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son James.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, 95817.

Arrangements were made by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Betty Mae Simpson

A Catholic Prayer Service for Betty Mae Simpson, 71, of Hydesville will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

The Rev. Sebastian Meyer O. Carm will officiate. Interment will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Simpson died on Jan. 6, 2000, in Hydesville after a short illness.

Born on May 16, 1928, in Fairfield, she lived there until 1974, before moving to Hydesville. She and her husband owned and operated the Hydesville Mobile Home Park until 1985, when they sold the park and enjoyed retirement. She enjoyed homemaking, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Mrs. Simpson is survived by her husband, Ralph of Hydesville; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Wayne Tomei of Lafayette; son, Rusty of Fortuna; daughter-in-law, Teri of Stayton, Ore.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bea and Skip Prusso of Fairfield and Rose and Bud Borgess of Fairfield; brother-in-law, Chris Santaella of Fairfield; brother, Joe of Fairfield; and four grandchildren.

Jewell B. Henry

There will be no services for Jewell B. Henry, 90, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Henry died Jan. 6, 2000, in Vacaville after an illness.

Born Jan. 6, 1909, in Ewing, Ill., she resided in Vacaville and was a prior long-time resident of Vallejo. She worked for the U.S. government for 35 years until her retirement. She worked for the state of Washington, Travis Air Force Base, the Naval Supply base in Oakland and Mare Island shipyard in Vallejo.

Mrs. Henry enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, camping and cooking. She also very much enjoyed being with her family.

Mrs. Henry is survived by her daughter, Joan of Oakland; son, Michael of Oregon.; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Janice Forshay-Henry of Vacaville; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by McCune Garden Chapel.

Helen A. 'Granny' Hicks

Funeral services for Helen A. "Granny" Hicks, 71, of Vallejo will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Skyview Funeral Chapel.

The Rev. Leroy Williams of Mt. Herman Baptist Church, San Francisco and St. Vincent's Catholic Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.

Mrs. Hicks died Jan. 8, 2000, in her home after a long illness.

Born Dec. 26, 1928, in Columbus, N.M., she lived in Vallejo for 56 years. She was a waitress for a total of 40 years, and worked for Sears for 18 years, retiring in 1986.

Mrs. Hicks enjoyed cooking, crocheting, trips to Reno, and being with friends and family.

Mrs. Hicks is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jitu Dani of Vallejo and Shirley and Doug Reynolds of Vacaville; son, Greg Hicks of Sacramento; mother, Lillian of San Leandro; sisters, Lucy Freccero of San Leandro and Carmen Bricker of Castro Valley; brothers, Michael of Union City and Gilbert of Florida; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo G. in 1990 and a son, John in 1998.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday in Skyview Memorial Chapel.

Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Solano Units, 1652 West Texas St., Suite 110, Fairfield, 94533 or Kaiser Hospice, 975 Sereno Drive, Vallejo, 94589 or donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements were made by Skyview Memorial Lawn.

Phyllis Ilo Kelly

Funeral services for Phyllis Ilo Kelly, 84, of Vacaville will 2 p.m. Thursday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

Pastor Ken Doan of Orchard Avenue Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mrs. Kelly died Jan. 10, 2000, in Vaca Valley Hospital after a short illness.

Born May 22, 1915, in Chester, Neb., she moved to the area 31 years ago. She was a homemaker for 44 years. She was a member of the Orchard Avenue Baptist Church, was a Sunday School teacher and belonged to the Grandma's Bible Class.

Mrs. Kelly is survived her sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Donna of Vacaville and Gary and Jettie of Fairfield; sisters, Wanda Barham and Gwen Cryan, both of Vacaville; grandson and his fiancee, James and Lindsay of Dixon; granddaughters, Kathy and Lonnie, both of Stockton; grandson, Gary Kelly Jr., of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, in 1990.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Orchard Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 301 North Orchard Ave., Vacaville.

Marilynn Lorraine Mendoza

Funeral services for Marilynn Lorraine Mendoza, 56, of Vacaville, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Father Benedict DeLeon will preside. Burial will follow at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mrs. Mendoza died Jan. 6, 2000, in Vacaville after an illness.

Born June 12, 1943, in Glendale, she lived in Vacaville since 1977. She worked at the district office of the Vacaville Unified School District for 13 years after raising her children.

Mrs. Mendoza is survived by her mother, Ruth Goldman of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Pam of Elk Grove; son, Dominick of Vacaville; daughter, Lydia and partner, Clair Toomay of Sacramento; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and George Maffey of Denton, Texas; brother Jon and his partner Jan Samuels of Ocean View, Hawaii; brothers and sisters-in-law, Pat and Rochelle Patelzick of Vacaville, Andrew and Patricia of Sacramento and Rosie and Roger Sandstrom of Castro Valley; five grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and a son, Frank Jr.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with rosary at 6 p.m. in McCune Garden Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NorthBay Hospice, 1300 Oliver Road, Suite 210, Fairfield, 94533.

Nadja Paul

There will be no services for Nadja Paul, 79, of Vacaville at her request. Inurnment will be private at Skylawn Memorial Park, Vallejo.

Mrs. Paul died Jan. 8, 2000, in Vacaville after an illness.

Born Jan. 16, 1920, in Oregon, she resided in Vacaville for 8 years. She worked in the restaurant business for 45 years. She was a member of the San Francisco Restaurant and Bartenders Local #2.

Mrs. Paul is survived by her daughters, Merri Katherine Hudson of San Francisco and Tuan Forbes of Vacaville; granddaughters, Shawn Poli of Fairfield and Jade Cropper of American Canyon; grandson, Alexander Cropper of American Canyon; brothers and sisters-in-law, Nick and Ellie Cheechov and John and Earline Cheechov all of La Habra; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) J. Paul.

Arrangements were made by McCune Garden Chapel.

Joseph Brian Phillips

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated for Joseph Brian Phillips, 48, of Vacaville at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Chapel Center at Travis Air Force Base.

Chaplain Michael Weber, a captain, will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips died Jan. 7, 2000, in Vaca Valley Hospital after a sudden illness.

Born Oct. 10, 1951, in Fayetteville, N.C., he lived in Vacaville for 21 years. He was employed with the California Highway Patrol as a Commercial Vehicle Inspector for the past 7 years. He retired in 1992 from the U.S. Air Force with the rank of master sergeant after serving 20 years. He was a member of Santo Nino de Cebu Society and had been an usher at St. Michael's Parish at Travis Air Force Base. He was a 1970 graduate of Cape Fear High School in Fayetteville, N.C.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 20 years, Teresa of Vacaville; daughter, Joyce of Vacaville; son, Jerome of Vacaville; mother, Catherine Phillips-Hurst of Fayetteville; sisters, Kathy of Greensboro, N.C., JoAnne Lovick and Martha Gunkel, both of Fayetteville.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. with a rosary at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 350 Stinson Ave., Vacaville or St. Michael's Parish Community, Travis Air Force Base, 94535.

John Edward Rominek

Funeral services for John Edward Rominek, 87, of Fairfield will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Fairfield.

The Rev. Sebastian Meyer, O. Carm. will officiate. Interment will be private in Monticello Memorial Park, San Bernardino.

Mr. Rominek died Jan. 10, 2000, in Concord after a short illness.

Born Jan. 18, 1912, in Rhode Island, he lived in Fairfield for 28 years. He worked as an electrician for the United States Civil Service.

Visitation will be held today from 5-9 p.m. with rosary tonight at 7 in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Ruth P. Young

A Memorial Service for Ruth P. Young, 73, of Fairfield, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fairfield Presbyterian Church.

The Rev. Stewart Drake of Fairfield Presbyterian Church will officiate. Inurnment will be private in Rockville Cemetery.

Mrs. Young died Jan. 7, 2000, in her home after a brief illness.

Born Oct. 21, 1926, in Marysville, she resided in Fairfield for 10 years, and prior to that, she resided in Walnut Creek for 17 years. She was a homemaker for 53 years. She graduated from St. Rose College in Albany, N.Y., with a degree in history, which she accomplished after raising her children. She attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

She was very active in church affairs. She was a member of the Fairfield Presbyterian Church in Fairfield, active in the organization Church Women United. She was also active in the Valley Methodist Church, San Ramon. She was an accomplished seamstress and gracious hostess.

Mrs. Young is survived by her husband, Clifford C. Jr. of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Alan Schwartz of Vallejo; daughter, Catherine Galvin of Sacramento; sons, Robert of Clearlake Park and Christopher of London; sisters, Margaret Galloway of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Bernice McWilliams of Beaumont, Texas; grandchildren, Alycia Galvin of Merced, Jeffrey Galvin of Sacramento, Jennifer and Rebecca Schwartz of Vallejo; and a great-grandson, Christopher Long of Merced.

Arrangements were made by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.
