Thomas J. Anders

A funeral for Thomas J. Anders, 67, of Dixon will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home in Dixon. Pastor Wesley Nordman of Dixon Community Church will officiate.

Born Oct. 15, 1932, in Portageville, Mo., Mr. Anders died Jan. 20, 2000, in Lathrop.

Mr. Anders' family moved to California in 1952 and he joined them in Dixon after being discharged from the Army in 1955. He was a veteran of the Korean War and retired from the Operating Engineers Union and was a member of the Dixon Moose Lodge. He lived with his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter in Lathrop for the last five years.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Vacaville; sons, Mike and Robert, both of Dixon; daughter, Tammy Donatelli of Lathrop; brother, Forest Lee of Arizona; sisters, Genevieve May of Live Oak, Willene Estes of Blytheville, Ark., LeAn White of Oklahoma City, Reba Boyd of Northboro, Mass; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, William T., and mother, Alma J.

A visitation will be held at the Dixon Moose Lodge following the funeral.

James Victor Furco

No formal services will be held for James Victor Furco, 89, of Vacaville.

Private burial will be in Epiphany Episcopal Church Columbarium in Vacaville.

Born Sept. 22, 1910, in Syracuse, N.Y., he died in the Fairfield home of his son James on Jan. 20, 2000.

He had lived in Vacaville for 42 years.

Mr. Furco was an assembly worker 30 years with the U.S. Hoffman Co. in Syracuse and was a custodian for 10 years with the Travis Unified School District.

In Syracuse, he was active in Little League baseball and also coached basketball. When he was 70, he bowled a perfect 300 game. He also enjoyed tennis and golf.

Mr. Furco is survived by daughter, JoAnne Thornton of Vacaville; sons, James of Fairfield, John of Dunsmuir and Timothy of Vallejo; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, on Nov. 1, and son Tom.

Edna G. Simon

Private inurnment arrangements for Edna G. Simon, 91, of Vacaville are being handled by the Neptune Society of Northern California. Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Oct. 17, 1908, in England, she died Jan. 19, 2000, in Vacaville, where she had lived for 20 years.

She had been an office manager for IBEW and enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles.

Mrs. Simon is survived by her son, John A. Ellis of Vacaville; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Donald Ray Spring

At the request of the family, no services were conducted for Donald Ray Spring, 62, of Vallejo. Inurnment will be private.

Born July 25, 1937, in Hanford, Mr. Spring died Dec. 29, 1999, in San Leandro.

He is survived by his sisters, Wanda McClellan of Sutherlin, Ore., and Joyce Howell and Ernestine, both of Vallejo; brother, Dalvin of Vallejo; four nephews; two nieces; seven great-nieces; and five great-nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Georgia C. Van Veen

No formal services will be held for Georgia C. Van Veen, 88, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Van Veen died Jan. 19, 2000, in Vacaville following a long illness.

Born Oct. 3, 1911, in New York City, she had lived in Vacaville for 11 years.

She was a former executive secretary at Dalton School in New York and an executive secretary for the Colony Club in New York, where she retired in 1979.

She is survived by her sons, Peter of Marco Island, Fla., and Richard of Vacaville; sister, Florence Peavy of East New York, N.J.; and grandchildren, Amanda of Boston, Derek of Greenville, S.C., Casey of Fairfield and Ryan.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 631 Howard St., Suite 520, San Francisco, 94105-3907.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Malcolm R. Duke

No formal services will be held for Malcolm R. Duke, 88, of Fairfield. Inurnment at Fairmont Memorial Park will be private.

Born Dec. 29, 1911, in Houston, Texas, Mr. Duke died Jan. 24, 2000, at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield after a brief illness.

He lived in Fairfield for 46 years and served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years. He retired as a Chief Quarter Master.

After his retirement, Mr. Duke served as a police officer at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard from 1960 to 1979.

He is survived by daughter, Lisa of Vacaville; sons, Michael of Columbus, Ohio; Steven of Muskegon, Mich. and Craig of Fairfield; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Eloise in 1984.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Harold N. Green

A memorial service for Harold N. Green, 79, of Fairfield will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Twin Chapels Mortuary in Vallejo. The Rev. Al Marks of First Baptist Church of Vallejo will officiate. Inurnment will be private. Cremation will be held at Twin Chapels Mortuary.

Born Jan. 14, 1921, in Detroit, Mich., Mr. Green died Jan. 19, 2000, in Vallejo.

He played minor league baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals organization and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean conflict. He retired as a Lt. Colonel after 28 years of service.

After his retirement, Mr. Green worked for Cypress Lakes Golf Course as a greenskeeper for six years. He was an avid golfer.

Mr. Green is survived by his wife, Peggy Ann of Santa Rosa; daughter, Valaree Hoover of Suisun; son, Randy of Newport Beach; stepdaughters, Lynn Merrill of Lafayette, Judy Parry-Jones of Santa Rosa and Patti Johnson of Santa Rosa; stepson, Mark Moore of Woodland; sister, Mimi Stubbings of Valencia; brother, Irving Green of Whittier; nine grandchildren and three great-granchildren.

Contributions can be made to the American Liver Foundation.

Winifred Z. Heffner

No services have been scheduled for Winifred Z. Heffner, 85, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Born Aug. 19, 1914, in Rome, Penn., Mrs. Heffner died Jan. 22, 2000, at the Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.

She was a devoted wife for 65 years and loving mother and grandmother. She lived in Aptos for 30 years and Santa Cruz for three years before moving to Vacaville one year ago. Mrs. Heffner was a member of the Aptos Methodist Church and loved sewing and knitting.

She is survived by her daughter, Mona Heffner Carros of San Diego; son, Walter Landon Heffner of Glendora; sister, Louise Sliker of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, Clarence Landon of Vestal, N.Y.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Walter Shumway Heffner of Vacaville, died the following day, Jan. 23, 2000.

Theodore John Munoz

A rosary for Theodore John Munoz, 62, of Dixon will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home with a Catholic prayer service to follow. Father Maurice O'Brien of St. Peters Catholic Church will preside. Inurnment will be private.

Born April 4, 1937, in Dixon, Mr. Munoz died Jan. 18, 2000, in Davis after a brief illness.

He worked for Hester Roofing Company as a roofer before his retirement. He was a lifelong resident of Dixon.

Mr. Munoz is survived by his sons, Steven of California, Tino of Dixon; sisters, Ramona Moore of Dixon and Nellie Garcia of Woodland; mother, Beatriz of Dixon; grandson, Alex of Dixon; and many nieces and nephews.

Walter Shumway Heffner

No funeral services have been scheduled for Walter Shumway Heffner, 90, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Born Aug. 9, 1909, in Wellsboro, Penn., Mr. Heffner died Jan. 23, 2000, at the Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center after a short illness.

He lived in Aptos for 30 years and Santa Cruz for three years before moving to Vacaville a year ago.

He worked for IBM as a press operator for 26 years and was a member of the Aptos Methodist Church and an avid fisherman. He loved wood carving, gardening, bowling, lapidary and made many bolo ties from rocks.

Mr. Heffner is survived by his daughter, Mona H. Carros of San Diego; son, Walter Landon Heffner of Glendora; sisters, Gladys Arnold of Aptos, Phylis Francis of Chenango Bridge, N.Y. and Jane Murray of Williamsville, N.Y.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

His wife, Winifred Z., died on Jan. 22, 2000 in Vacaville.

Robert L. Agoado

A memorial service for Robert L. Agoado, 54, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Feb. 4 at St. Dominic's Church in Benicia. The Rev. Eugene Souza will officiate.

Mr. Agoado died on Jan. 21, 2000, at his home in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born on Aug. 14, 1945, in California, he had lived in Fairfield for the past three years. He worked as a door installer for AGI Shower Door.

Mr. Agoado is survived by his girlfriend, Michelle Smiley of Fairfield; daughter, Devanne Fox of Vallejo; sons, Robert Jr. of Cordelia and Richard of Vacaville; sisters, Nicoletta Preston of Corning, Madaline Hyde of Livermore, Lucky of Vallejo, Gilda Ledesma of Red Bluff and Irene of Clearwater, Fla.; and brother, Harry of Clearwater, Fla. He also had four grandchildren.

Joseph A. Cross

A Mass of the Resurrection for Joseph A. Cross, 79, of Vacaville was celebrated Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. William Feeser presided.

Born Jan. 10, 1921, in St. Francis, Ky., Mr. Cross died Jan. 19, 2000, at home after a long illness.

A native of St. Francis, Mr. Cross had lived in Vacaville for the past 10 years. He attended the University of Notre Dame and was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was assistant manager for 30 years at Bank of America and worked for seven years at First Interstate Bank of Nevada. He was a part-time conductor on the Nut Tree train and a founding member and treasurer for Solano Repertory Company. He wrote for Town Hall Magazine and was an avid bowler, golfer and fisherman.

Mr. Cross is survived by his wife of 53 years, Melba of Vacaville; daughters and sons-in-law, Laura A. and Gary Christie of Sparks, Nev., and Barbara M. and Aaron Norris of Fairfield; sisters, Helen Shelton of Noblesville, Ind., Teresa Clark and Madonna Hayes, both of Lebanon, Ind., Martha Studle of Oak Park, Ga., Shirley Wright of Greenwood, Ind., and Mary Wilson of Danville, Ind.; brother, Joseph Eugene Cross of Lebanon, Ind.; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Cross was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Monica Lea Erickson, in 1988 and brothers, James Clyde and Charles.

Arrangements were handled by Nadeau Family Funeral Home.
