Sam Devers

No services will be held for Sam Devers, 69, of Vacaville.

Mr. Devers died on Jan. 29, 2000, in Vacaville after a long illness.

Born on Aug. 18, 1930, in French Camp, he lived in Vacaville for the past 17 years. He worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for 30 years.

Mr. Devers is survived by his wife, Margaret of Vacaville; and stepfather, Sam J. Haverlock of Napa.

'Flo' Florence Pence

Funeral services for 'Flo' Florence Pence, 74, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairfield Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rockville Cemetery.

Mrs. Pence died on Jan. 30, 2000, at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Born on Nov. 17, 1925, in Bellvue, Ky., she lived in Fairfield for the past 15 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Pence is survived by her husband, Wilbur of Fairfield; daughters, Gerrie Rivera of Sherman Oaks, Sandra Grabow of Dixon and Jennie Valles of Fairfield; son, William of Pacific Grove; and sister, Lorraine Gibson of Southgate, Ky. She also had nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Edward C. Rushing

A Mass of Christian Burial for Edward C. Rushing, 75, of Fairfield will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield.

The Rev. Luciano Valenzuela will officiate. Burial will be at Suisun Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Fairfield Funeral Home, with a vigil to be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Rushing died on Feb. 3, 2000, at David Grant Medical Center on Travis Air Force Base.

Born on April 1, 1924, in Covington, La., he lived in Fairfield for the past 38 years. He worked as a correctional officer at California Medical Facility in Vacaville before retiring in 1980.

He was in the U.S. Marines during World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre. He also served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed. He spent a total of 22 years in the service.

Mr. Rushing is survived by his wife, Joyce of Fairfield; daughters, Susan Rushing Hart of Napa, Ann Rushing Kuntz of Anchorage, Alaska, Nancy Shishido of Folsom, Lisa of Vacaville and Mary Pearce of Fairfield; sons, Alan of Suisun, Jon of Vallejo, Gregory of Suisun and Mark of Fairfield; and sisters, Edna Kolas of El Paso, Texas, and Carrie Anderson of Hattiesburg, Miss. He also had 18 grandchildren.

Morton 'Grady' Zimmerman

A memorial service for Morton 'Grady' Zimmerman, 62, of Yuba City will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at McCune Garden Chapel. Elder Richard Zimmerman will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Zimmerman died on Feb. 2, 2000, in Sacramento.

Born on Nov. 27, 1937, in Little Rock, Ark., he lived in Yuba City for the past two years after having lived in Vacaville. He worked in sales his entire career. He enjoyed storytelling, birdwatching, reading and his nine cats.

Mr. Zimmerman is survived by his son, Jason T. of Dixon; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lisa of Hollywood; and brother, Richard of Utah.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Diabetes Society of Solano County, 817 Missouri St., Suite No. 4, Fairfield, 94533.

Sheila Scarborough Spencer

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sheila Scarborough Spencer, 46, of Suisun City, will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vacaville.

The Rev. Benedict DeLeon will officiate. Burial will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Aug. 30, 1953, in Richmond, Miss Spencer died on Feb. 1, 2000, in Solano County after a long illness.

Miss Spencer worked as a census taker for the U.S. Census for one year.

Miss Spencer is survived by her sons, Ian, Travis and son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Kristal, all of Vacaville; mother, Edna Scarborough of Richmond; and grandchildren, Keaton and Markee Hale of Vacaville.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lowell Scarborough, in 1969.

Arrangements are under the direction of Vaca Hills Chapel.

Mary J. Bachman

Funeral services for Mary J. Bachman, 79, of Vacaville, will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the Vaca Hills Chapel.

Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born May 11, 1920, in Butler, Penn., Mrs. Bachman died Feb. 6, 2000, in her Vacaville home after a short illness. She moved to the area 21 years ago and had been a longtime resident of Pennsylvania and Arizona.

She had been a clerk for the J.C. Penney Co. for 21 years and enjoyed crocheting, puzzles and playing cards.

Mrs. Bachman is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Michelle of Carlisle; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Tom Symons of Vacaville, and Cathy and Joe Niebur of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Dorothy Hutchinson of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel.

A memorial contribution may be made to NorthBay Cancer Center, 1860 Pennsylvania Ave., Fairfield, 94533.

Mary Emily Edwards

A memorial service for Mary Emily Edwards, 84, of Fairfield, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Fairfield. The Rev. Todd Bertani will officiate. An inurnment was held at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Clinton, Ill.

Born June 28, 1915 in DeWitt County, Ill., Mrs. Edwards died Jan. 2, 2000, at Sunbridge La Mariposa Convalescent Hospital.

A resident of Fairfield for 30 years, Mrs. Edwards worked as a secretary for Solano County for 10 years and was in the Sheriff's Department and the Department of Transportation for many years.

A homemaker for many years, she was a president of the Parent Teacher Association and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Chief Solano Chapter. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Fairfield, the Fairfield Senior Center and was a volunteer in the craft shop.

Mrs. Edwards is survived by her daughter, Martha Leong of Fairfield; son, James of Denver; granddaughter, Leah of San Francisco; grandsons, Jay of Los Angeles and David Leong of San Leandro; great-granddaughter, Saya Yaegashi of San Leandro.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Diabetes Society of Solano County, 817 Missouri St. Suite 4A, Fairfield, 94533.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

LaMar Beverly Greene

Funeral services for LaMar Beverly Greene, 62, of Fairfield, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairfield Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Stewart Drake of the church will officiate. Interment will be private at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery, and then the family will return to the church to join friends and other relatives for a reception.

Born Sept. 15, 1937, in Martinez, Mrs. Greene died Feb. 6, 2000, in Fairfield.

A native of California, Mrs. Greene was raised in Napa, graduated from Napa High School and settled in Fairfield to raise her four children with her husband. A homemaker most of her life, she also worked at Travis Air Force Base as a medical records clerk. She was a member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Greene is survived by her husband, John; son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Gina of Fairfield; son Calvin of Fairfield; daughter Sally of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, LezLee and Cory Sheldon of Suisun City; father, Marvin Nichols of Grass Valley; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Beverly Nichols of Concord; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be sent to Fairfield Presbyterian Church, 2100 Fairfield Ave., Fairfield, 94533.

Everett L. Ricketts

At his request, there will be no formal services for Everett L. Ricketts, 77, of Vacaville. Inurment will be private.

Mr. Ricketts died Jan. 31, 2000, in Vacaville after a long illness.

Born Nov. 13, 1922, in Fairport, Iowa, he lived in Vacaville for the past 27 years. He served 10 years with the U.S. Marines and 21 years with the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a master sergeant. He also worked in civil service for 10 years before retiring.

He loved his family, preparing food and his cat, Socks, also known as Hound Dog.

Mr. Ricketts is survived by his wife, Becky of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, Rickey Lee and Lisa of Hawaii; son Larry Ray of Vacaville; daughter Susan Forsythe of Vacaville; grandchildren, Kristy and John of Hawaii, Jonah, Lime and April Forsythe of Vacaville and Sarah Ruth of Vacaville; and, stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Dennis and Peggy Perdue of Virginia.

Larry Don Clark

A Catholic Prayer Service for Larry Don Clark, 57, of Vacaville will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in McCune Garden Chapel.

The Rev. Bill Feeser of St. Mary's Catholic Church will preside. Burial will follow in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Clark died Feb. 6, 2000, in Martinez after a long illness.

Born March 17, 1942, in Sasakwa, Okla., he lived in Vacaville for the past 16 years. He worked for Bethlehem Steel Co. for 16 years.

Mr. Clark is survived by his mother, Dorothy M. Delaney of Vacaville; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Ron McCue of Yuba City; sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Ray Garland of Redding; nieces and nephews, Debra McCue of Norfolk, Va., Ronnie, Roxie and Eric McCue, all of Yuba City, Danny and Beverly Garland of Vacaville, Amy Gouland of Redding; great-nieces and -nephews, Jason Garland, Jordan Leslie, both of Yuba City, Robert MacBroom of Vacaville, Athence and Arron Garland of Vacaville; aunt, Ethel Foster of Rodeo; cousin, Joe and Kathy Foster of Rodeo; second cousin, Mathew of Rodeo. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert Delaney of Vacaville.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today in McCune Garden Chapel.

Francis 'Frank' T. Curulewski

A private family service for Francis 'Frank' T. Curulewski, 81, of Vacaville was held recently. A memorial service will be held later in Deerfield, Ill.

Mr. Curulewski died on Feb. 2, 2000.

Born on March 7, 1918, in Chicago, he moved to California in 1987. He worked as a painter and apartment manager. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. Following an active-duty tour in Munich, he continued as a reservist until 1963. He was an active member of the Northbrook, Ill., American Legion.

Mr. Curulewski is survived by his wife of 60 years, Noreen; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and James Murray of Wilmette, Ill.; daughter, Pamela Jackson of Vacaville; and grandchildren, Kristen and Kara Murray, both of Wilmette and Griffin Murray of San Francisco.

At her request, no formal services will be held for Leona G. Ennis, 78, of Vacaville. The family will hold an open house at 1 p.m. today at her daughter's home. She wished to be cremated and have her ashes scattered over the Pacific Ocean.

Mrs. Ennis died on Feb. 4, 2000, at her home in Vacaville after a brief illness.

Born on Nov. 25, 1921, in Tacoma, Wash., she lived in Vacaville for the past 17 years. She enjoyed reading, knitting, baseball, golf and the company of her bird.

Mrs. Ennis is survived by her daughter, Joni Curry of Vacaville; grandchildren, Amber and Billy, both of Vacaville; daughter-in-kind, Christine McCormack of Vacaville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Delbert and Ruth of Portland, Ore., Jim and Edna of Minden, Nev.; and sisters, Marian Burfield of Rocklin and Sadie Kowalski of Sonora. She also had many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Knudsen; and mother, Nora Wilson.
