Verna Cornelia Johnson Fortney

Graveside services for Verna Cornelia Johnson Fortney, 88, of Sweet Home, Ore., will be 2 p.m. Monday at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery. Mrs. Fortney will be buried next to her husband, Carl. Visitation will be private at Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Fortney died on Feb. 6, 2000, in Independence, Ore., after a long illness.

Born on Sept. 13, 1911, in Robertson, Wyo., she had lived with her daughter in Sweet Home for the past 30 years. She was formerly a resident of Fairfield. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved all things Western and was very proud of her American Indian heritage. She made many scrapbooks for members of the family. She was the daughter of Thomas Johnson and Bernadetta Hereford Johnson and the eldest of 15 children.

Mrs. Fortney is survived by her sons, Edward P. of Big Pine and Robert of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughters, Shirley Wagner of Chardon, Ohio, and Bernyce of Elgin, Ore.; brothers, Alfred Johnson of Fort Washakie, Wyo., and Monte Johnson of Greenville; and sisters, Iris LeClair of Lander, Wyo., and Hazel Strader of Evanston, Wyo. She also had 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; daughter, Katherine Coehlo, a grandson and two great-grandsons.

Patricia Elizabeth Henrickson

Memorial services for Patricia Elizabeth Henrickson, 63, of Austin, Texas, will be at 6 p.m. today at the Salvation Army Church, 635 Williams St. in Vacaville. Pastor Ray Nevill will preside.

Mrs. Henrickson died suddenly Jan. 31, 2000, in Austin.

Born May 12, 1936, in Cheynne, Wyo., she had lived in Texas for three months after having lived in the Vacaville and Fairfield areas for more than 40 years.

She had worked as a medical transcriptionist at David Grant and NorthBay medical centers. Family members say she will be remembered as a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Henrickson is survived by daughter, Lynn Root of Vacaville; son, Charles of Austin; and three grandchildren, Danielle, Samuel and John Root, all of Vacaville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Henrickson, in 1974.

Arrangements were handled by Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home in Austin.

Walton James Looney

A funeral for Walton James Looney, 76, of Vacaville will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Vaca Valley Christian Life Center. Burial will be at Lower Lake Cemetery District in Lower Lake. Visitation will be 6 p.m. Friday at Vaca Hills Chapel.

Mr. Looney died on Feb. 8, 2000, at VacaValley Hospital after a long illness.

Born on June 30, 1923, in Tecumseh, Mo., he moved to the area 21 years ago. He was a civil servant at Mare Island for 21 years as an electronics technician. He was very involved in church activities with Vaca Valley Christian Life Center. He enjoyed camping, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Looney is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Vacaville; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Jim Miller, Vickie and Bruce Bacom and Marilyn and Joe Kirkpatrick, all of Vacaville; daughters, Cherri Whitby of Suisunville and Tamara Chambers of Arkansas; and sister, Thelma Rockey of Marysville. He also had 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three stepchildren.

Jewel Sevier

A funeral for Jewel Sevier, 81, of Benicia will be 1 p.m. Friday at Passalacqua Funeral Chapel in Benicia. Burial will be at Benicia City Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sevier died on Feb. 8, 2000, at a local hospital after a brief illness.

Born on Oct. 15, 1918, in Mangum, Okla., she had lived in Benicia since 1947. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Sevier is survived by her daughters, Mary Ellen Janak of Houston, Carol Jean Williams of Vacaville and Ann of Fairfield; sons, Leonard Allen and Ronald Lee, both of Benicia, Larry Joe of Batesville, Ark., and Michael Joseph of Benicia; sisters, Juanita Blair of Oklahoma City; and brother, Walter Lynn of Oklahoma City. She also had 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Benicia Community Action Council.

James Hill

At his request, no formal services were held for James Hill, 69, of Vacaville. He will be inurned in the National Cemetery in Arizona.

Born Aug. 30, 1930, in West Virginia, Mr. Hill died Feb. 4, 2000, in Oakland after a long illness.

He was a resident of Vacaville for 33 years and worked for the United States Air Force as a medic for 22 years.

Mr. Hill is survived by his son, Jim of Scottsdale, Ariz., and many friends.

Alfred Hodge

A funeral for Alfred Hodge, 65, of Fairfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the True Love Baptist Church. The Rev. James A. Ray will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Solano Valley Mortuary. Burial will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born Oct. 24, 1934, in Texas, Mr. Hodge died Feb. 9, 2000, at NorthBay Medical Center after a long illness.

He was a steward at Mare Island for 20 years.

Mr. Hodge is survived by his wife, Cecile J. of Fairfield; daughters, Brigitte DeLaGarza of Texas, Carolyn Allen of El Campo, Texas, Maria Ware and Janetta Petit, both of Fairfield, and Jennifer Hall of Suisun; mother, Zola Mae of Texas; sister, Ree Nash of Oklahoma; brother, Robert Davis of Los Angeles; and seven grandchildren.

Barbara J. Rock

A memorial service for Barbara J. Rock, 66, of Fairfield was held Feb. 4 at St. Stephen CME Church. The Rev. William Larkin officiated.

Born Feb. 21, 1933, in Little Rock, Ark., Mrs. Rock died Jan. 23, 2000, at David Grant Medical Center.

She lived in Fairfield for 30 years and was a devoted mother and teacher. She received her undergraduate degree in biology and special education and taught school in Germany. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Kappa Beta Omega, Vallejo chapter.

Mrs. Rock is survived by her son, Samuel of Fairfield; cousins, Dorothy Dixon of Concord, Betty Price of El Cerrito, Velma Raymond of Richmond, Doris Patterson of Berkeley, Wendall Fudgen of Oakland, Loretta Walker of Pittsburg, Caroline Mack of Emeryville and Karen Mothershed of Arkansas; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Aldo John Cocchi Jr.

A funeral Mass for Aldo John Cocchi Jr., 64, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vacaville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Nadeau Family Funeral Home, with a liturgy/rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.

Mr. Cocchi died on Feb. 11, 2000, in his home in Vacaville after living in Vallejo for several years.

Born on Dec. 30, 1935, he was a first-generation Californian and a native of Crockett. He graduated from St. Vincent Ferrer High School in 1953. He was a journeyman machinist who later became a member of the sheet metal workers Local No. 104. He was the owner of Fairfield Heating and Air Conditioning. Prior to retirement, he worked as a planner/estimator for construction companies. After retiring, he volunteered for the St. Vincent dePaul Society, California Inland Fisheries Foundations, Capitola Begonia Festival, St. Mary's Catholic Church as well as several other organizations.

He also devoted himself to family activities, especially if they involved fishing at his beloved Donner Lake retreat. He was always trying to catch the big fish that got away. He enjoyed woodworking and took great pride in building furniture for his nine grandchildren. He provided many memories, funny stories and placed great importance on family.

Mr. Cocchi is survived by eight children, Anne Cocchi of Santa Cruz; Julie Dediego of Capitola; Matt Cocchi of Santa Cruz; Chris Cocchi, Nick Cocchi, Joe Cocchi, Melissa Sanchez and Mimi Klahn, all of Vacaville; and by his wife, Barbara, and her children, Cheryl Smith of San Francisco; Paul Smith of Phoenix, Arizona and Cullen Smith of Davis; his mother, Elsie Cocchi of Vallejo; brothers and sisters, Joan Benson, Rita Boynton, Alma Caffall, Henrietta Rubano, Ray Cocchi, Dan Cocchi and Cathy Brescia; and former wife, Beverly Cocchi.

He was preceded in death by his father, Aldo Cocchi Sr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society or the donor's favorite charity.

Richard Conner

A memorial service for Richard Conner, 60, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Vacaville Moose Lodge No. 134. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Conner died on Feb. 10, 2000, in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born on Jan. 13, 1940, in Slayton, Minn., he lived in Vacaville since 1974. He worked as a service technician for Beckman Industries for 23 years before retiring. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Dixon and enjoyed photography, fishing, feeding ducks and reading.

Mr. Conner is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Don Wolfe of Redding; sons, Kevin Wright and Mark Vincent, both of Vacaville; mother, Violet of Slayton, Minn.; sister, Dodie Ladwig of Marshall, Minn.; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Donna of Boise, Idaho; brother, Joel of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Cassandra Wolfe, Bryanna Wolfe and Kiana Wolfe, all of Redding; nieces and nephews, Dan of Boise, Don of Enterprise, Ala., Tracy McHarg of St. Paul, Minn., Joe Ladwig of Minneapolis, Jean Ladwig of Marshall and Taylor of Minneapolis; great-nephew, Zachary of Boise; and special friend, Cheryl Comer of Vacaville. He also had numerous aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, care of Ruth Bradanini, 290 Fruitvale Road, Vacaville, 95688.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel.

Shirley Wanita Gurney

A funeral for Shirley Wanita Gurney, 72, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church in Vacaville.

Pastors Milton Steck and Frank Salamone will officiate. Interment will follow at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gurney died on Feb. 10, 2000, at Mount Diablo Medical Center in Concord after a short illness.

Born on April 15, 1927, in Illinois, she lived in Vacaville for the past 25 years. She worked as a chef.

Mrs. Gurney is survived by her son, Thomas of Vacaville; and brother, James Traver of Arizona. She also had numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 1965.

Veraldo Dominic 'Don' Muratori

Memorial services for Veraldo Dominic 'Don' Muratori, 63, of Salem, Ore., will be 1 p.m. on Feb. 19 at Nadeau Family Funeral Home. Pastor Lester Seto will officiate. Inurnment will be private in Salem.

Mr. Muratori died on Feb. 7, 2000, at his home in Salem.

Born on Feb. 23, 1936, in Montgomery County, Ill., he lived in Salem for the past three years after having lived in Dixon for five years and in Vallejo for 25 years before then. He worked for the Solano County Sheriff's Department as a deputy sheriff for 25 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Northern Solano Lodge No. 2534 and Sons of Italy. An avid hunter and fisherman, he also enyoyed growing mushrooms in Salem.

Mr. Muratori is survived by his wife, Vi of Salem; mother, Millie of Suisun Valley; sisters, Jeannie Moffitt of Vacaville and Debbie Gross of Suisun Valley; and stepchildren, Bob Anderson of Colorado, Linda Stevens of Portland, Ore., and Gary Anderson of Vacaville. He also had seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Willamette Valley Hospice, 2700 Market St., Salem, Ore., 97301.

William Dickson Spearman

At his request, no services will be held for William Dickson Spearman, 88, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Spearman died on Feb. 9, 2000, in Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.

Born on Dec. 8, 1911, in New York, he moved to the area five years ago after having lived in Boyton Beach, Fla., for 40 years. He was self-employed as a musician for 70 years.

Mr. Spearman is survived by his daughter, Myrtle Lentini of Vacaville. He also had 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren in California, Florida, Utah and New York.

Arrangements were handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Betty Taforo

At her request, no services will be held for Betty Taforo, 73, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Taforo died on Feb. 9, 2000, in Vacaville.

Born on Feb. 5, 1927, in California, she was a housewife all her life. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Taforo is survived by her husband of 38 years, Louis of Vacaville; daughter, Sharon Bury of Terra Linda; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Valerie Bellotti of Daly City and Ricky and Jackie Bellotti of Petaluma; and brother, Sammy Hale of Ignacio. She also had 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by McCune Garden Chapel.
