Craig Allen Torres
A funeral for Craig Allen Torres, 35, of Red Bluff will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Red Bluff Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery
in Red Bluff.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of the Flowers in Red Bluff.
Mr. Torres died unexpectedly at his home in Red Bluff on Feb. 8, 2000.
Born on May 31, 1964, in Butte County, he lived in Red Bluff since 1993 after having lived in Chico and Vacaville, where he graduated from high school in 1982. Until becoming disabled, he worked as a salesman for a national pest control company. He was an avid sports fan who played golf, baseball and football. He was also a proud 49ers fan.
Mr. Torres is survived by his wife, Alison of Red Bluff; son, Matthew Craig of Red Bluff; sister, Brandi Berry of Shelton, Wash.; brothers, Christopher Berry of Central California, Victor James and Daniel Raymond, both of Vacaville, and Jesse Freiday and Tony Sorgenfrei, both of Shelton; stepsons, Travis John Whitley and Scott Whitley, both of Cottonwood; parents, Victor and Fran of Vacaville; and step-grandfather, James Thompson of Paradise.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Tehama County Drug Prevention Program or the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be sent to Chapel of the Flowers, 816 Walnut St., Red Bluff, 96080, or directly to the organizations.
Arrangements are being handled by Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers.
Verna Cornelia Johnson Fortney
Graveside services for Verna Cornelia Johnson Fortney, 88, of Sweet Home, Ore., will be 2 p.m. Monday at Suisun Fairfield Cemetery.
Mrs. Fortney will be buried next to her husband, Carl. Visitation will be private at Nadeau Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Fortney died on Feb. 6, 2000, in Independence, Ore., after a long illness.
Born on Sept. 13, 1911, in Robertson, Wyo., she lived in Sweet Home, Ore., for the past 30 years. She was formerly a resident of Fairfield. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She loved all things Western and was very proud of her American Indian heritage. She made many scrapbooks for members of the family, each one a family history book for the individual. She was the daughter of Irven Johnson and Bernadetta Hereford Johnson, the eldest of 15 children.
Mrs. Fortney is survived by her sons, Edward of Big Pine and Robert of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughters, Shirley Wagner of Chardon, Ohio, and Bernyce of Elgin, Ore.; brothers, Alfred Johnson of Fort Washakie, Wyo., and Monte Johnson of Greenville; sisters, Iris LeClair of Lander, Wyo., and Hazel Strader of Evanston, Wyo. She also had 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; daughter, Katherine Coehlo; a grandson; and two great-grandsons.
George Washington Moore
Funeral services for George Washington Moore, 83, of Dixon will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home. Interment will be at Silveyville Cemetery.
Mr. Moore died on Feb. 11, 2000, in Dixon after a long illness.
Born on Feb. 26, 1916, in Howe, Okla., he lived in Dixon for the past 50 years. He worked for Anderson Bros. for 40 years before working for the city of Dixon in public works for nine years. He was deeply loved by his family and will be truly missed.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary of Dixon; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Herb Millang of Yuba City, Janette and Chris Cotton of Woodland, Margie and Ed Burton of Dixon and Jane and Dan Gordon of Burney; and sons and daughters-in-law, Martin and Debra of Vacaville and Gary and Shirley of Vacaville. He also had 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby.

Rose Sercia Essig
A Catholic Prayer Service for Rose Sercia Essig, 86, of Vacaville, will be 1 p.m. Thursday in McCune Garden Chapel, Vacaville.
The Rev. William Feeser of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vacaville will officiate.
Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.
Born Dec. 18, 1913, in Staten Island, N.Y., she died Feb. 12, 2000, in Vacaville.
After retiring 19 years ago after several years as a model and then a hairstylist, she moved to Vacaville to be closer to her family.
She enjoyed knitting, collecting clowns and will be remembered for her excellent Italian cooking.
Mrs. Essig is survived by her daughters and sons-in law, Valerie and Keith Abernethy of Vacaville and Lois and George Schneer of Los Gatos; sister, Helen Aksey of New York; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Darrald Jacobsen
A funeral for Darrald Jacobsen, 82, of Corvallis, Ore., will be held today in Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Corvallis.
Duane Vanselow, church pastor, will officiate.
Born Oct. 8, 1917, in Eureka, Mr. Jacobsen died Feb. 11, 2000, in his home.
A former California resident, including Vacaville, he moved to Oregon in 1977.
He had been a produce manager and a member of the Southern California United Food and Commercial Workers Union, Local 770. A 'rock hound,' he enjoyed rock collecting, sea shells and hummingbirds. And he enjoyed children, many of whom thought he looked like Santa Claus.
Mr. Jacobsen is survived by his wife, Winifred; daughter, Nancy Phelps of Corvallis; son, Thomas of Kingman, Ariz.; brothers, including Willard Bagbey of Australia; sister, Sharlene of California; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial contribution may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Mary's Peak Chapter in Oregon.

Emily Mae Jensen
A funeral for Emily Mae Jensen, 4, of Fairfield, will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairfield.

Burial will be private in Rockville Cemetery
in Suisun Valley. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.
Born, Dec. 8, 1995, she died Feb. 13, 2000, in her Fairfield home after a long battle with leukemia.
Family members said they were blessed by her laughter, courage, strength and love.
She is survived by her parents, Susan and Brent; sister, Allison of Fairfield; maternal grandfather, James Brown of Concord; paternal grandparents, Mary and Darlene of Prineville, Ore.; six uncles, four aunts and six cousins.

William Henry Knabke
A funeral Mass for William Henry Knabke, 89, of Winters, will be held noon Wednesday in St. Anthony Catholic Church in Winters.
Burial will be in the Winters Cemetery.
Born Jan. 29, 1911, in Cupertino, he died Feb. 14, 2000, in Sacramento after a brief illness.
He had been a lifelong farmer and lived in Winters since 1977 after moving from Sunnyvale. He was a member of St. Anthony, enjoyed his family and friends, and world travel, hunting and fishing.
Mr. Knabke is survived by Josephine, his wife of 58 years; sons, Bill and John, both of Winters, and Jim of Clovis; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Joe and Frank.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. today in the church, with a rosary service at 7 p.m.

Conrad Fred Kersting
Two memorial services for Conrad Fred Kersting, 65, of Fairfield will be held. The first will be 5 p.m. Friday at Liberty Christian Center in Fairfield. Pastor Richard West will officiate. The second will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Temple in Fairfield with members of the Suisun Lodge No. 55 officiating. Inurnment will be private.
Mr. Kersting died on Feb. 11, 2000, at his home in Fairfield after a short illness.
Born on April 27, 1934, in Newton, Mass., he lived in Fairfield for 29 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, working as a security officer. He retired in 1975 as a staff sergeant. He later worked for the Solano County Sheriff's Department as a civilian driver for 10 years. He was a member of the Suisun Lodge No. 55, F&AM, Montezuma Shrine Club, Legion of Honor for Shriners, Ben Ali Temple in Sacramento, Commandery and Royal Arch Masons and Council. He enjoyed photography and gun collecting.
Mr. Kersting is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Hartwig of Fairfield and Emily Bouchard of Vacaville; son, Morris of Ione; sister, Irene Waterhouse of Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Gwennyth LaMaida of Fairfield; and grandchildren, Michael Painter and Lisa, both of Fairfield, Brandy of Massachusetts and Jeremy Nunes, Jason Nunes and Breann Prien, all of Vacaville. He also had several nieces and nephews.

Richard Frederick 'Skinny' Hicken
Memorial services for Richard Frederick 'Skinny' Hicken, 49, of Dutch Flat will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be private.
Mr. Hicken died on Feb. 1, 2000, in Dutch Flat.
Born on Jan. 18, 1951, in Heber City, Utah, he lived in Dutch Flat for 20 years, after having lived in Vacaville for several years. He worked as a jeweler out of his home for 25 years.
Mr. Hicken is survived by his son, Corey Bentley; and brothers, Joel Crae Clift and Steven Clift.

Leslie William Ensley
A memorial service for Leslie William Ensley, 64, of Vacaville will be 7 p.m. Friday at Golden Hill Community Church in Brentwood. Disposition will be private.
Mr. Ensley died on Feb. 12, 2000, at his home in Vacaville after a short illness.
Born on Aug. 1, 1935, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Vacaville since 1985. He served in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1952 to 1954 in Korea. He attended the Multnomah School of the Bible, earning his bachelor's degree in theology, master's in ministry and doctorate in ministry. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of the Baptist General Conference.
Mr. Ensley is survived by his wife, Alice of Vacaville; sons, Michael of Vacaville and Mark of Arizona; daughters, Laurie of Sacramento, Ruth of Arizona and Joy of Minnesota; and sister, Cinthia Murphy of New York. He also had 11 grandchildren.

Lillian Mae Hulsey

Mrs. Hulsey died on Feb. 13, 2000, in McCall.
Born on Dec. 13, 1911, in Hartman, Ark., she lived in McCall after having lived in Sonoma for 33 years. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Hulsey is survived by her sons, Billy of Keno, Ore., Roger of Wetumka, Okla., and Bobby of Bremerton, Wash.; daughters, Shirley Meeks of Middleton, Idaho; Virginia Crauthers of Whitehorn, Delores Bartalomeow of Sebastapol and Kathy Lemon of McCall; sister, Lois Birkmeyer of Oklahoma City; and brothers, George and Fay Baker, both of Okema, Okla. She also had 24 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.
