Marie Stauffer

No services will be held for Marie Stauffer, 87, of Woodland. Inurnment will be at Silveyville Cemetery in Dixon.

Mrs. Stauffer died on March 22, 2000, in Woodland after a long illness.

Born on July 4, 1912, in Switzerland, she lived in Woodland for 40 years. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidery.

Mrs. Stauffer is survived by her niece, Sherry Loveland of Vacaville; and sister-in-law, Josephine of Dixon.

Arrangements were handled by McCune Garden Chapel.

Merril Z. Schwestka

A memorial service for Merril Z. Schwestka, 91, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Friday at Fremont Presbyterian Church in Sacramento. Burial will be at Fellows Lawn Cemetery in Sacramento.

Mr. Schwestka died on March 23, 2000, of natural causes at Laurel Creek Health Center in Fairfield.

Born on Feb. 25, 1909, in Roseville, he lived in Fairfield for a year, after having lived in Sacramento for 59 years. He graduated from junior college in 1931 and worked as a supervisor for Pacific Bell for 37 years, before retiring in 1972. He was a member of the Tehama Masonic Lodge and the Fremont Presbyterian Church for 58 years. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and golfing.

Mr. Schwestka is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret Ann; daughter, Margaret Ann Gray; grandchildren, Heather Thacker and her husband, Todd, John Gray and his wife, Tina, Michael Gray and his wife, Laurie, and Kristen Franceschini and her husband, Nick; great-grandchildren, Emily, Corie, Holly, Cierra, John and Hannah; and sister, Florence. He was preceded in death by his son, Merril Jr.; and sister, Mila.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a memorial fund at the church.

Arrangements are being handled by the Neptune Society of Northern California.

Francis Joseph Nucera

A Mass of the Resurrection for Francis Joseph Nucera, 80, of Vacaville will be celebrated 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at the Vacaville Elmira Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nadeau Family Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.

Mr. Nucera died on March 25, 2000, at NorthBay Medical Center after a short illness.

Born on Oct. 19, 1919, in Freeport, Pa., he lived in Vacaville for the past 18 years. He had been the owner and operator of an auto dismantling company for 28 years before retiring. He loved people and loved having great times. He especially loved to dance.

Mr. Nucera is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen of Vacaville; daughter, Lynne Knisely of Vacaville; granddaughter, Stacy Degracia of Vacaville; and grandson, Brad Marshall of San Andreas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Sacramento Chapter, P.O. Box 60168, Sacramento, 95860-1068.

John Harm Stratmeyer

A funeral for John Harm Stratmeyer, 88, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

The Rev. Stewart Drake will officiate. Interment will be at Suisun Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Stratmeyer died on March 24, 2000, in Fairfield after a short illness.

Born on July 5, 1911, in Lennox, S.D., he lived in Fairfield for 16 years. He worked as a refrigeration engineer for 28 years. He also worked for Finn Brothers Ice Cream Co. in Sioux Falls, S.D., for Red Top Dairy in Cordelia and for the state of California for 13 years before retiring in Stockton in 1977. He also owned and operated a Union Oil Service Station and Firestone dealership in Vallejo for 10 years.

He was a member of the Vallejo Exchange Club, Refrigeration Engineers Society, California State Employees Association, Winnebago Club in Fairfield and Fairfield Presbyterian Church in Fairfield. He was also a past member of the Moose Lodge in Vallejo.

Mr. Stratmeyer is survived by his wife, Audrey of Fairfield; daughters, Marlyn Silveria of Benicia, Doreen Belcher of Redding and Sharon Jacobsen of Novato; and sisters, Dena Siepkes and Jennie Musch, both of South Dakota. He also had seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Anne Fernandez

A funeral for Ruth Anne Fernandez, 16, of Jacksonville, Ore., will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Crossroads Community Church in Vacaville. Pastor Jon Corson of Applegate Christian Fellowship in Jacksonville, Ore., will officiate. Interment will follow at Rolling Hills Cemetery in Richmond.

Born Dec. 13, 1983, in Vallejo, Miss Fernandez died March 23, 2000, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

A sophomore at South Medford High School, Miss Fernandez was very active in the Youth Ministry of Applegate Christian Fellowship. She lived in Jacksonville for the last two years. She was family oriented and her cousins were her best friends. She was an artist who enjoyed writing poetry and painting with oils. She also did charcoal drawings and loved photography.

Miss Fernandez is survived by her parents, Matthew and Deneen Fernandez of Jacksonville; sister, Lisa Courtney of Vacaville; brothers, Paul Fernandez of Eugene, Ore., Micah Fernandez of Brentwood; grandmother, Annie Fernandez of Fairfield; grandparents, Melvin and Jeaneen Dean of Clearlake; great-grandmother, Maizie Dean of Clearlake.

Miss Fernandez was preceded in death by her grandfather, Carroll Fernandez and her mother, Robin Fernandez.

A private visitation for family will be held today at Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Francis Joseph Nucera

Carl Anian Carlson

Memorial services for Vallejo resident and retired U.S. Navy Capt. Carl Anian Carlson, Jr., 89, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Vaca Hills Chapel.

U.S. Navy Chaplain Jim Current will officiate. Interment will be private.

Mr. Carlson died March 22, 2000, in Fairfield at David Grant Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born April 7, 1910, in Youngstown, Ohio, he moved to Solano County 52 years ago. He began his enlisted service in the U.S. Navy in deep sea diving, and rose to the rank of captain, a position he held for 30 years before his retirement in October of 1957.

During his distinguished career, Carlson survived 40 months as a prisoner of war in the Phillipines during World War II. Carlson was taken prisoner after seeing action as a member of the Beach Defenses on the island of Corregidor in May of 1942. He received the Bronze Star with Combat V for heroic achievement. He was also awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded four times in the Phillipines in 1942.

He served aboard the USS Pigeon and the USS Valley Forge as a Gunnery Officer, as well as at the Naval Ammunition Depot at Mare Island among his final duties for the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Carlson is survived by his wife of 61 years, Midred, of Vallejo; brother Randall of Youngstown, Ohio; grandsons Jeffrey of New York, N.Y., and Joel of San Luis Obispo; granddaughter Jamie of Santa Maria; and nephew Randall Jr. of Houston, Texas.

He is preceded in death by son John.

Mr. Carlson served as an active member as well as president of the Retired Officers Association on Mare Island. He was also a longtime member of the Vallejo Elks Lodge #559, to which donations can be made.

Arrangements are being handled by the Vaca Hills Chapel.

Rosemarie Baker

A Catholic Prayer Service for Rosemarie Baker, 66, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Downey will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Interment will be at Rockville Cemetery.

Born Oct. 2, 1933, in Sundance, Wyo., Mrs. Baker died March 25, 2000, at her home after a long illness.

A resident of Fairfield for 48 years, she was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She had been active in local Little League baseball events, loved to read and enjoyed arts and crafts. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband, Barrett of Fairfield; sons, Mark, Michael and Martin, all of Fairfield, and Merle of Vacaville; sisters, Mona Rollins of Lemon Grove and Dale Artiaga of Stockton; brother, David Erwin of Stockton; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be sent to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 844, Santa Rosa, 95402, or the American Lung Association, 105 Astrid Drive, Pleasant Hill, 94523.

Mary Ruth Clippinger

No formal service will be held for Mary Ruth Clippinger, 74, of Suisun. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Clippinger died on March 27, 2000, at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield after a short illness.

Born on June 16, 1925, in Cincinnati, she lived in Suisun for 25 years. She did volunteer work at the Fairfield Senior Center for many years, working with the Outreach Day-care Program and spending a lot of time as an activity programmer. She also participated in the YMCA Swim Club.

Mrs. Clippinger is survived by her husband, Dean of Suisun; daughter, Mary H. Taack of Suisun; and daughter and son-in-law, Wilma Kay and Steve Bogardus of Vacaville. She also had two grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the donor's favorite charity, or the Alzheimer's Programs at NorthBay Medical Center, 1200 B. Gale Wilson Blvd., Fairfield, 94533.

Lorraine H. Borghello

A memorial service for Lorraine H. Borghello, 64, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.

Born Oct. 30, 1935, in San Francisco, Mrs. Borghello died March 24, 2000, in Vacaville.

She lived in Daly City for 37 years before moving to Vacville five years ago. She was a retired teacher's aide at Jefferson Elementary School and a volunteer at Seton Hospital.

Mrs. Borghello is survived by her husband, Edward of Vacaville; son, Eugene of Vacaville; and two grandchildren,

Arrangements are under the direction of the Neptune Society of Northern California.

Edwinna Myrtle Smith

A memorial service for Edwinna Myrtle Smith, 83, of Fairfield will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Temple Baptist Church in Fairfield. Pastor Frank Booth will officiate. Interment will be private.

Mrs. Smith died on March 27, 2000, in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born on May 26, 1916, in Pennsylvania, she lived in Fairfield for a year. She was a homemaker for 44 years.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Harry of Winterhaven; daughters, Zoe of Oakland, Linda Handa of Suisun and Michele Stern of Fairfield; and son, Timothy H. Jones of Santa Rosa. She also had 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Esther Ortiz

A funeral for Esther Ortiz, 69, of Fairfield will be 3 p.m. Friday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield. Pastor Joseph Prudhomme will officiate. Entombment will be at Fairmont Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ortiz died on March 28, 2000, at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born on July 11, 1930, in Jalisco, Mexico, she lived in Fairfield for 32 years. She was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devoted Christian even during 18 years of illness.

Mrs. Ortiz is survived by her husband, Jose N. of Fairfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Jose L. and Veronica of Suisun and Ricardo and Betty Jo of Fairfield; and daughters and sons-in-law, Hilda and Mike Salmon and Nelda and Kevin Lorson, all of Fairfield. She also had 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Earl Louis Hennings

A funeral for Earl Louis Hennings, 85, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery. The Rev. Todd Bertani will officiate. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

Born June 26, 1914, in Grafton, Wis., Mr. Hennings died March 27, 2000, in Fairfield after a two-year illness.

Mr. Hennings graduated from Marquette University in 1937 with a degree in engineering. He worked at Consolidated Aircraft during World War II and designed B-24s. He held various management positions with Pacific Scientific Co. and was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and a former member of the Auburn Elks.

Mr. Hennings is survived by his wife, Ann of Fairfield; sons, Richard of Sunnyvale and Barry of Palo Alto; brother, Marvin of Grafton; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.
