Eldon C. Hylton

A memorial service for Eldon C. Hylton, 79, of Fairfield will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Temple Baptist Church. Pastor Robert Lewis will officiate.

Inunrment will be at Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.

Born April 19, 1920, in Norwood, Mo., Mr. Hylton died April 13, 2000, at home after a long illness.

A Fairfield resident for 40 years, Mr. Hylton was a veteran of World War II and Korea, serving as a chief boatswain for the U.S. Navy for 20 years before retiring.

He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and the Naval Reserve Assocation.

Mr. Hylton is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy of Fairfield; daughter, Barbara of San Diego; son, Eldon of San Diego; and sisters, Vera Rowland of Mountain Grove, Mo., and Fern Standley of Norwalk, Iowa.

Arrangements are being handled by Fairfield Funeral Home.

Earl Maben

A memorial service for Earl Maben, 64, of Fairfield will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Community United Methodist Church in Fairfield. The Revs. David Bunje and C. Holtzman Frazier will officiate.

Inurnment will be private in Willows Cemetery.

Borm Feb. 24, 1936, in Phoenix, Ariz., Mr. Maben died April 12, 2000, at home after a long illness.

A Fairfield resident for 35 years, Mr. Maben attended schools in Willows, Los Gatos and Escalon. A resident of Escalon from 1951-1953, he graduated from Escalon High School in 1953.

He graduated from University of California, Davis, in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in agricultural education, and received a secondary teaching creditial from Californis State University, Sacramento, in 1961.

He was a high school teacher at Willows, Woodland, Fort Bragg and Armijo High School in Fairfield, where he taught math, science and driver's education and coached football and basektball from the mid-1960s to 1991.

He was a city recreation director at Fort Bragg and Fairfield and also was a rancher and real estate developer who owned and operated Allied Mobile Parks from 1979 to 2000.

He was a member of Community United Methodist Church, Sigma Nu Alumni, Delta Chamber of Commerce, Loyal Order of the Moose-Lodge No. 1967 and Solano County Business and Education Alliance.

Mr. Maben loved his extended family as if each and every member were of his immediate family.

Mr. Maben is survived by his wife, Frances of Fairfield; daughter, Jacqueline of Benicia; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and John Logan of Antelope; stepdaughters, Lyudmila Sukhaya of Santa Ana and Melanie Laws and Denise Laws, both of Fairfield; stepsons, William Laws Jr. of Fairfield and Darryl Laws of Newport Beach; sisters, Hettie Lou Downing of San Jose and Lovine Myers of Adin; brother, Lester of Orland; grandchildren, Alyson Laws, Jacob Neisler, Amanda Laws and Ciera Laws, all of Fairfield, Susan Logan, Sherry Logan and Sandy Logan, all of Antelope, Garrett Earl Morano of Benicia and Olivia Laws of Santa Ana; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Jeffrey Lynn Azuar

A memorial service for Jeffrey Lynn Azuar, 50, of Vallejo will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Corbus Field in Vallejo. The Rev. Keith DeVries will officiate. Entombment will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn in Vallejo. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Skyview Funeral Chapel in Vallejo.

Mr. Azuar died on April 12, 2000, at a local hospital.

Born on Dec. 14, 1949, he lived in Vallejo his entire life. He was a police officer with the Vallejo Police Department for 21 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Azuar is survived by his daughter, Amanda K. Azuar-Geller of Vallejo; father, Joseph C. of Vallejo; and granddaughter, Ashlee Geller of Vallejo. He was preceded in death by his mother, Connie, in 1998 and his brother, Dennis, in 1987.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ashlee Geller Scholarship Fund, care of Vallejo Police Officers Association, 301 Wallace St., Vallejo, 94591, or the K-9 Fund, care of Vallejo Police Department, 111 Amador St., Vallejo, 94590.

William R. O'Brien

A funeral for William R. O'Brien, 74, of Martinez will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield. Stan Sanderson will officiate. Interment will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. O'Brien died on April 11, 2000, in Walnut Creek after a brief illness.

Born on May 16, 1925, in Fort Collins, Colo., he lived in Martinez for 30 years. He spent his early years in Wyoming and worked for the Oliver DaSilva Co. as an operating engineer, retiring after 40 years of service. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local No. 3 of the Bay Area. He was an avid sports fan who owned horses and rode in many rodeos as a youth.

Mr. O'Brien is survived by his wife, Barbara of Antioch; daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Bill Weiler of San Jose; sons and daughters-in-law, Otto and Virginia Wise of Weipe, Idaho, and Donald and Barbara Wise of Los Gatos; son, Jack Wise of Sarasota, Fla.; and sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Don Fiel of Martinez. He also had seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gordon, and a grandchild.

Frederick L. Girdler

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McCune Garden Chapel for Frederick L. Girdler, 72, of Vacaville. The Rev. William Feeser of St. Mary's Catholic Church will preside. Inurnment will be private.

Born Aug. 1, 1927, in San Rafael, Mr. Girdler died April 15, 2000, at VacaValley Hospital. He was raised in Sharp Park. After serving with the Merchant Marine and Army, he lived in Redwood City for 31 years before moving to Vacaville. Mr. Girdler was a California Highway Patrol officer for 21 years, mainly in San Mateo County. He moved to Vacaville in 1989. He enjoyed woodworking, being with his family - he was known as "Pops" to his grandchildren and "Candy Man" to his great-grandchildren - and supervising projects. He belonged to the CHP Association and the Northern California Horsemans' Association.

Mr. Girdler is survived by his wife of 52 years, Roberta of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jean of Washington; daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Rick Gorley and Deedee and Robert Blake, all of Vacaville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gardner and Delores of Blue Lake and Ronald and Mildred of Willits; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.

Brian Paul Gutkowski

A memorial service for Brian Paul Gutkowski, 26, of Vacaville will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church. Pastor Lester Seto will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Gutkowski died on April 13, 2000, in Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento after a long illness.

Born on Sept. 11, 1973, on Travis Air Force Base, he was a lifelong resident of the Fairfield and Vacaville areas. He worked as a photographer for Expressly Portraits for five years. He was a member of the National Civil War Association, acting as a corporal in the 71st Pennsylvania Regiment. He had a passion for life.

Mr. Gutkowski is survived by his father, Paul of Vacaville; mother and stepfather, Rita and Bob Kappelin of Placerville; sisters, Jennifer and Tria of Cameron Park; stepsister Shelby Kappelin of Placerville; stepbrother, Kyle Kappelin of Placerville; paternal grandparents, Walter and Norma of Sussex, N.J.; and nephew, Galvin Herr of Cameron Park. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Josef and Maria Herr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are being handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Manuel Reguera Jr.

A memorial service for Manuel Reguera Jr., 53, of Fairfield will be 5 p.m. Wednesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield. Family and friends will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Reguera died on April 14, 2000, at his home in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born on July 20, 1946, in Vallejo, he lived in Fairfield all his life. He graduated from Armijo High School and Solano Community College. He worked in construction and for the state of California as an inspector for many years. He was a member of the Alumni Association for Armijo High School.

Mr. Reguera is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Manuel of Folsom and Kevin James of Truckee; parents, Manuel and Isabel of Fairfield; sisters, Isabel Engel of Greenbrae and Mary McNelis of Fairfield; brother, Jerry of Sacramento; daughter-in-law, Debbie of Folsom; and grandson, Parker James of Folsom.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Sanwa Bank, Acct. 0217-20587, P.O. Box 67, Fairfield, 94533, for a memorial brick to be placed in Willie Mays Plaza at Pacific Bell Park in San Francisco in Mr. Reguera's honor.

Reaka G. Evans

Memorial services for Reaka G. Evans, 82, of Fairfield, will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Fairfield Funeral Home. Anthony Young of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Born March 13, 1918, in Nebraska, Mrs. Evans died April 10, 2000, at home.

A homemaker, Mrs. Evans is survived by her sons, Robert of Fairfield and Callie of Napa.

James Joseph Hutzler

A funeral for James Joseph Hutzler, 56, of Suisun City was held Monday. Inurnment will be at Fairmont Memorial Park at a later date.

Born Aug. 7, 1943, in Oakland, Mr. Hutzler died April 10, 2000, at home.

A graduate of Oakland High School, Mr. Hutzler attended Oakland City College. He worked for 20 years as sales manager of many Northern California motorcycle shops. For the last 10 years, he worked for Lemans Corp. where he won numerous awards for high-volume sales as a Northern California sales representative.

A life member of the American Motorcycle Association District 36, Mr. Hutzler also was a life member of Richmond Ramblers Motorcycle Club. He was a member of the Pinole Golf Association and the Eagles of Fairfield. He was also a member of the Fairfield Golf Task Force in the 1980s.

Mr. Hutzler is survived by his wife, Judith of Suisun City; son and daughter-in-law, John S. and Heather Harrison of Rancho Cordova; daughter, Wendy of San Diego; brothers, Thomas of Dublin and Deacon John Hutzler of South San Francisco.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Vacaville.

Norma Shirley Korte

A Catholic prayer service for Norma Shirley Korte, 65, of Vacaville, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at McCune Garden Chapel. The Rev. Benedict DeLeon of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born July 10, 1934, in Nashville, Tenn., Ms. Korte died April 15, 2000, in Vacaville.

A longtime resident of Vacaville, Ms. Korte was a nurse since 1973 and spent the majority of her career at the University of California, Davis, Medical Center in Sacramento in the oncology department.

She was a member of St. Mary's, the Democratic National Committee and many charity organizations. She loved reading and spending time with her family, including her cat, Pepper.

Ms. Korte is survived by her daughters, Janice Miller of Sacramento, Peggy Collins of Weston, Fla., and Brenda of Davis; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Philip Busekist of Bend, Ore.; son and daughter-in-law, George and Christine of Fairfield; grandchildren, Justin, Ray and Julie Collins of Weston, Fla., and Erik Scott of Davis; nieces and nephews, Michael and Jerry Arnold and Tammy Tabor, all of Grass Valley, Kathy Cullman of Seattle, Sharon Arnold of Petaluma.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McCune Garden Chapel.

James Viloria Corpuz

A memorial service for James Viloria Corpuz, 58, of Vacaville will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in McCune Garden Chapel.

Pastor Randall A. Bailey of Solid Rock Church of God will preside. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Corpuz died April 13, 2000, at University of California, Davis, Medical Center in Sacramento after a sudden illness.

Born Nov. 4, 1941, in Waipahu, Hawaii, he was a Vacaville resident since 1978. He worked for the West Contra Costa Unified School District as a sheet-metal journeyman for 22 years.

Mr. Corpuz loved gardening and spending time with his family.

Mr. Corpuz is survived by his wife, Glenda 'Charlita'; son, Denny of Vacaville; daughters, Sherilyn of Texas and Staci of Vacaville; grandsons, Zachary and Ryan of Vacaville; mother, Aurelia 'Audrey' Corpus of Vacaville; sisters, Leoning Eliglo, Jeanette Monroy and Arleen Taylor, all of Honolulu, Maxine Castro-Mims of Vacaville and Esmeralda Marconi of San Francisco; brother, Ernest Corpus of Honolulu; and two half-brothers and two half-sisters, all of Guam.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday in McCune Garden Chapel.

Walter J. Everly

Memorial services for Walter J. Everly, 82, of Vacaville will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Community Presbyterian Church. A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Everly died April 14, 2000, at his home after a long illness.

Born April 28, 1917, in Longmont, Colo., he moved to the area 42 years ago. He had a 25-year U.S. Air Force career in accounting and finance before retiring as a colonel. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was a longtime booster of the Vacaville Babe Ruth League.

Mr. Everly enjoyed gardening and playing all racquet sports.

Mr. Everly is survived by his brother, Gilbert of Longmont; children, Joan and Michael, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
