Ronald 'George' Gaston

Services are pending for Ronald 'George' Gaston, who died May 4, 2000, in St. Luke's hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

Mr. Gaston graduated from Junction City High School in Junction City, Kan., in 1960. After graduation he located to the Vacaville area. He was a manager and store director of Albertson's from 1962 to 1995.

He was active in the chamber of chamber and was involved in city and county governments throughout his life in California. He was a talented musician from age 14.

He was born Sept. 13, 1942, in Junction City, the son of Russell and Opal, who preceded him in death. He is survived by brothers, Russell Jr. and Robert 'Bob' Sr.; daughter, Shelly Windham;, sons, George T. and Ronney G.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions in the name of George Gaston may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, Junction City, or the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University.

Ruth M. Raefield

A memorial service for Ruth M. Raefield, 76, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church, 185 Chandler Drive, Vacaville. Her ashes will be scattered respectfully at sea near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Mrs. Raefield died on April 26, 2000, at VacaValley Hospital.

Born on Jan. 12, 1924, in Baltimore, she lived in Vacaville for the past 20 years after having lived in Walnut Creek. She worked as a bookkeeper at McRaetec, a family-owned business, before retiring in 1991.

Mrs. Raefield is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Frank Lopez of Fairfield; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Maxine Guynn of Chico; and sister, Helen Pausch of Baltimore. She also had four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1991.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are being handled by the Neptune Society of Northern California.

Charles 'Dick' Reardon

Graveside services for Charles 'Dick' Reardon, 70, of Fairfield, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Suisun Fairfield Cemetery.

Mr. Reardon died May 5, 2000, in NorthBay Medical Center after an illness.

Born Jan. 3, 1930, in Farrell, Pa., he lived in Fairfield since 1968. He retired after 24 years as a senior master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force, serving in both Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Reardon was an avid golfer and once hit a hole in one. He also was a golf repairman, loved the Cleveland Browns and was an avid reader.

Mr. Reardon is survived by his wife, Rita; sons, Charles Jr. of Arizona, Patrick of Davis and David of Suisun; sisters, Phyllis Arbuckle of Pennsylvania; brothers, George and Frank, both of Pennsylvania; many nieces and nephews; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by a brother, John, and a son, James.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in Fairfield Funeral Home.

Angelo Gonzales

A funeral for Angelo Gonzales, 80, of Vacaville will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Nadeau Family Funeral Home. Pastor Leroy Gainey of First Baptist Church in Vacaville will offficiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Interment will be private in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Aug. 19, 1919, in Whitman, W.Va., Mr. Gonzales died May 5, 2000, at home after a long illness.

A Vacaville resident for 63 years, Mr. Gonzales served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed for 40 years at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, retiring as a type desk officer.

He served on the board of directors of the Mare Island Fedral Credit Union for 34 years and was known as "Mr. Credit Union," devoting many tireless hours. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and Vacaville Elks.

Mr. Gonzales is survived by his wife, Anna of Vacaville; sisters, Mary L. McCune and Rae Perez, both of Vacaville; and brothers, John of Union City, Tony of Sacramento and Alfonso of Spain. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfonso and Elsiai, and brother Manuel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, care of Ruth Bradanini, 290 Fruitvale Road, Vacaville, 95688.

Margaret Monica McClure

A memorial Mass will be celebrated for Margaret Monica McClure, 73, of Vacaville at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church Chapel. Father Vincent O'Reilly will officiate.

Inurnment will be private.

Born April 26, 1927, in Holton, Mich., Mrs. McClure died May 5, 2000, at Kaiser Permenanente Medical Center in Vallejo after a brief illness.

A Vacaville resident for one day, Mrs. McClure worked for Harbor Freight Co. in Camarillo for 10 years, where she was a telephone operator. She previously lived in Oxnard for 12 years.

Mrs. McClure is survived by her husband, Ralph of Vacaville; daughters, AnnMarie Campestre of Vacaville and Rhea Douville of Boerne, Texas; son, Michael Douville of Kerville, Texas; sisters, Mary Monette of Brunswick, Mich., Helen Sohasky of Muskegon, Mich., and Martha Saxton of Pontiac, Mich.; brothers, Joseph Slater and Ben Slater, both of Holton, and Paul Slater of Twin Lakes Township, Mich.; and eight grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Paul R. Nielsen

At his request, no formal services will be held for Paul R. Nielsen, 77, of Vacaville. A celebration of his life will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Saturday Club, 125 W. Kendal St., Vacaville.

Inurnment will be private.

Born April 14, 1923, in Seattle, Mr. Nielsen died May 2, 2000, in Vallejo after a short illness.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Nielsen served as a combat engineer in the U.S. Army for three years, fighting mostly in Italy as part of the European theater.

He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry in 1949, and was active in organized, professional optometry statewide as well as locally. A Vacaville resident for 45 years, he practiced in Vacaville for 36 years, beginning in 1953 and retiring in 1987. He was president of the California Optometric Association from 1975-76, and was a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry.

Mr. Nielsen also was actice in civic and community affairs. He served as president of the Solano County Board of Education and the Vacaville Union High School School Board of Trustees and as chairman of the Solano County Committee on School District organization. He was the charter president of the Vacaville Swim Club, a former member of Vacaville's Parks and Recreation Commission and was a past president and honorary member of the Vacaville Rotary Club. He was a former member of the Solano County Sheriff Department's Air Squadron and was a past commander of the orgainzation.

Mr. Nielsen is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Natalie and Tom O'Brien of Alexandria, Va., and Karen and Duane Balch of Fair Oaks; sons, Robert of Vacaville and Peter and his companion, Barbara Lightfoot, of Vacaville; sister, Dorothy Kappel of Enterprise, Ore.; and grandchildren, Michael of Vacaville and Amy Balch of Fair Oaks.

Memorial contributions may be made to UC Berkeley School of Optometry, Gift Processing, 2440 Bancroft Way, Berkeley, 94720-2400.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Donna Mae Robertson

Funeral services were held in Illinois for Donna Mae Robertson, 69, of Elizabethtown, Ill.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery. Father Michael Downey of Holy Spirit Church will officiate.

Born Nov. 10, 1930, in Madison, Wis., Mrs. Robertson died May 1, 2000, in Paducah, Ky., from heart failure.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Robertson is survived by her husband, Ben of Elizabethtown; sons, Ron Nash of Cave-In-Rock, Ill., and Wayne Nash of Toll House; sisters, Bernie Bagley, of Baltimore, Beatrice Moody of Elko, Nev., and Edie Drager of Fairfield; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Donald Gene Meneley

A funeral for Donald Gene Meneley, 75, of Sacramento will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at McCune Garden Chapel.

Visitation wil be 5 to 8 p.m. today at McCune Garden Chapel.

Interment will be at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery in Vacaville.

Born April 9, 1925, in Seminole, Okla., Mr. Meneley died May 4, 2000, in North Highlands.

He lived in Sacramento for 40 years.

He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Michael of Sacramento, James Wayne of Forbes Town and Norman Gene of Woodland; daughter, Cassandra Jean of Sacramento; sisters, Lilly Shackelford of Arizona, Geneva Harris of Modesto; brothers, Everett of Los Angeles, Albert of Napa, Alvin of Vacaville, and Thomas of Bakersfield; and mother, Cordellia Foster of Napa. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Glenn; father, James Thomas; sisters, Isabelle Davis and Mary Maxine Mullen; and brothers, Delbert and Darrell.

Ronald Gordon Miller

A "Celebration of Life" ceremony for Ronald Gordon Miller, 51, of Vacaville will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Community Presbyterian Church in Vacaville.

Pastor Tom Smith will preside. Interment will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Miller died May 5, 2000, at home with his family at his side.

Born Oct. 20, 1948, in Pontiac, Mich., he had lived in Vacaville for 15 years.

Mr. Miller grew up in Downey and was a 1966 graduate of Warren High School. He earned his bachelor's degree at Humboldt State College in forest management in 1971.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he flew F-4s with fighter squadron VF114 stationed at Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego and aboard the USS Kitty Hawk from 1972-76.

Mr. Miller worked as a county manager of Safeco Title Insurance until he changed vocations 10 years ago and began teaching elementary school in the Vacaville Unified School District. He was first assigned to Elm School, then transferred to Callison and most recently taught sixth-grade at Sierra Vista Elementary School.

Mr. Miller was very active with youth organizations in Vacaville, serving as coach for his sons' Little League baseball teams, soccer teams, and also basketball teams. He also coached his daughter's's soccer teams. He was an adviser for the Boy Scouts and the Explorer Post.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Virginia (Ginny) of Vacaville; two sons, Adam, stationed aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln in Everett, Wash., and Eric of Vacaville; a daughter, Ashley of Vacaville; his parents, Gordon and Irene Miller of Hemet; a brother, Gerald Miller of Park City, Utah; grandmother, Catherine Miller of Pontiac, Mich.; mother-in-law, Roberta Macdonald of San Francisco; sisters-in-law, Louise Todd and Patty Macdonald of San Francisco, and Kathy Donovan of Hawaii; brother-in-law, Medford Todd of San Francisco; and nieces and nephews in San Francisco.

Donations may be made to the Ronald Miller Scholarship Fund: Bank of the West, 330 Davis St., Vacaville, 95688.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hogan, Sullivan & Bianco Chapel of the Sunset Funeral Home in San Francisco.

Ernest 'Ernie' James Goetz

Memorial services for Ernest 'Ernie' James Goetz, 26, of Fairfield will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. Deacon John King of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Dixon will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Born Dec. 2, 1973, in Tacoma, Wash., Mr. Goetz died May 5, 2000, in Fairfield, the victim of a homicide.

A lifelong resident of Fairfield, Mr. Goetz graduated from Fairfield High School in 1991 and worked in construction for five years. He worked as a warehouse man for four years at the Safeway bread plant in Richmond.

Mr. Goetz was an avid hunter and angler who belonged to the Birds Landing Hunting Club, the Richmond Hunting Club and the Little West Wind Hunting Club.

Mr. Goetz is survived by his parents, Frederic and Jeanette of Fairfield; sisters, Heidi Daugherty of Fairfield, Lindsay Goetz of Rochester, Minn.; brothers, Fred Goetz Jr. and Jon Goetz, both of Fairfield; nephews, Christopher and Michael Pate, both of Fairfield; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and many longtime friends.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Building Fund, 2700 Dover Ave., Fairfield, 94533; or the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, 1171 Kellogg St., Suisun City, 94585.
