John J. Gonzales Sr.

Upon his request, there will be no public service for John J. Gonzales Sr. His request was to be cremated and his ashes scattered at sea.

Mr. Gonzales was a master mason of the Masonic Lodge for over 30 years. He died after a long illness at the Masonic Home in Union City where he was a resident.

Born Oct. 2, 1921, in West Virginia, Mr. Gonzales lived in Vacaville for most of his life before moving to Union City. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He worked for many years for PG&E and the Solano County Sheriff's Department. He was an active member of the Senior Citizens Club of Vacaville for many years.

Mr. Gonzales is survived by his daughters, Judy of Houston and Christine Hogland of Santa Rosa; son, John Jr. of Vacaville; sisters, Rae Perez and Mary McCune of Vacaville; brothers, Anthony of Sacramento and Alfonso of Spain; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Manuel and Angelo of Vacaville.

Arrangements are being handled by the Masonic Lodge in Union City.

Desiree Sheree Johnson Hall

A funeral for Desiree Sheree Johnson Hall, 27, of Fairfield will be at 11 a.m. today at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Suisun City. The Rev. Claybon Lea Jr. will officiate. Burial will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born Feb. 15, 1973, in Chicago, Mrs. Hall died June 16, 2000, at home.

A environmental services worker for Fairfield schools, Mrs. Hall was a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Reenecia Trotter, Dejiana Hall of Fairfield; sons, Michael Bonds and Frank Quarles of Fairfield; parent, Brenda Jones; sisters, Olivia Wayne of Fairfield; Deleha Norwood of Fairfield; brothers, Jayson Epps of Fairfield, Jerome Fontenot of Fairfield, David Bloedoorn of Fayetteville, N.C.; grandparents, Mary Boyce of Fairfield, Nathaniel Boyce of Sacramento; great-grandmother, Olivia Mitchell of San Francisco.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Jessie Fontenot.

Arrangements are under the direction of Solano Valley Mortuary.

Kim P. Mar

A memorial service for Kim P. Mar, 73, of Dixon will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Milton Carpenter Family Funeral Home. Inurnment will be private at Silveyville Cemetery.

Born Nov. 29, 1926, in Canton, China, Mr. Mar died June 20, 2000, in Davis.

A resident of Dixon for 30 years before moving to Vacaville, Mr. Mar owned the Corner Cafe, which is now Bud's Bar and Grill. He was also co-owner of Kim and Ned's Restaurant. He enjoyed playing poker and going to Reno and Tahoe to play the slot machines. He will be missed by his Sunday poker group.

He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Duffy of California, Sharon Ruble of Sparks; and longtime friends, Rose Dunham and family.

Victor H. Rodriguez

Memorial services for Victor H. Rodriguez, 73, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Fairfield. John Duncon will officiate. Inurnment will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born March 23, 1927, in Santa Paula, Mr. Rodriguez died June 18, 2000, at his home.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Rodriguez was a member of Asbestos Victims of America. He retired from C&H Sugar Co. after 29 years.

He is survived by his wife, Conception P. of Fairfield; daughters, Vickie A. Morales of Watsonville, Irene P. Lenz of Sacramento, Emily G. Jones of Coarsegold, Roxanne P. of Suisun City; son, Ernest P. of Sunnyvale; sisters, Carmen Ramirez of Santa Paula, Mercedes Ante of Ventura, Sylvia Gonzalez of San Diego, Eleanor Fox of Belfair, Wash.; brothers, Raymond Escoto of Vallejo, John of Santa Paula, and Joe Garcia of Sacramento; grandchildren, Esther Beckman, Rafael Morales, Victor, Alicia Jones, Melissa Corker, Ali Corker, Jayson Jones of Antelope, and Nathan of Fairfield.

Mr. Rodriguez was preceded in death by his son, Eric; parents, Isidro and Juana Hernandez Rodriguez; and siblings, Dolores Garcia and Manuel Escoto.

Memorial contributions can be made to Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall Building Fund, 1651 Sunset Ave., Fairfield, 94533.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fairfield Funeral Home.

Jesus F. Delgado

Visitation for Jesus F. Delgado, 21, of Vallejo, will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville.

Burial will follow at Cementero El Angel in Lima, Peru, at a later date.

Mr. Delgado died June 23, 2000, in San Ramon.

Mr. Delgado was born on Jan. 19, 1979, in Lima, Peru. He graduated from Will C. Wood High School in 1998. He lived in Vallejo for the past year, where he worked at Radio Shack.

He was an avid soccer player and an excellent swimmer. He also loved playing racquetball and going to the movies, and was an excellent dancer.

Mr. Delgado is survived by his father and stepmother Jesus and Cecilia of Vacaville; sister, Cynthia Purillia of Peru; maternal grandmother, Olga Moran of Peru; paternal grandmother, Alicia Gonzalez of Vacaville; fiancee, Ana Delgado of Vacaville; sister, Carolina Calderon of Las Vegas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

David Lee Nelson

A mass of the resurrection for David Lee Nelson, 46, of Vacaville, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vacaville.

Father William Feeser will preside. Internment will follow at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Private family hours will be held at the Nadeau Family Funeral Home. Friends are invited for visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. in the church.

Born June 17, 1954, in Milwaukee, Mr. Nelson passed away at his Vacaville home on June 23, 2000, after a long illness.

An educator for 20 years, Mr. Nelson taught physical education at Willis Jepson Middle School and was head wrestling coach at Vacaville High School until January of this year, when he resigned.

He is survived by his parents, Lawrence and Elizabeth of Vacaville; sister, Karen of Vacaville; sister and brother-in-law Rebecca and Sam McInnis of Vacaville; brother, James of Vacaville; loving friend, Yvonne Sooy of Vacaville; and two nieces and two nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Vacaville Wrestling Scholarship, c/o Mike Martin, 512 Marbella Lane, Vacaville, 95688.

Thomas Michael Arnold

A visitation for Thomas Michael Arnold, 50, of Fairfield will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. Inurnment will be private at Saltese Cemetery in Spokane, Wash.

Born Sept. 11, 1949, in Spokane, Wash., Mr. Arnold died June 19, 2000, at NorthBay Medical Center.

A resident of Fairfield for 41 years, Mr. Arnold served in the Army from 1968 to 1971 as a sergeant. A Vietnam War veteran, Mr. Arnold received the Purple Heart. He was a helicopter crew chief and a drill sergeant in Fort Lewis, Wash.

Mr. Arnold attended Holy Spirit school and Fairfield High School. He worked as an operating engineer for Central RediMix Cement. He was a member of Holy Spirit Church.

Mr. Arnold is survived by his wife, Kathie Arnold of Spokane; daughters, Shea McDaniel and Tanya Arnold both of Spokane; son, Tommy Arnold of Spokane; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick and Sharon Arnold, Bryan and Marjorie Henningfield, all of Fairfield; nieces, Connie Brown Henningfield and Lisa Marie Sharp, both of Fairfield; nephew, Scotty Lindgren and his wife, Sandra; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Kidney Association, 7315 Wisconsin Ave., Washington, D.C., 20014.

Hemby Lane Chappell

At his request, no services will be held for Hemby Lane Chappell, 88, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Born Oct. 2, 1911, in Belvedere, N.C., Mr. Chappell died June 14, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Chappell worked as a machine operator for American Home Foods for 10 years. An avid camper, Mr. Chappell enjoyed woodworking and watching sports on TV.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Wilma and Robert Ciavarelli of Vacaville, Claudia and Dennis Kijowski of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, William and Carol Chappell of Vacaville; son, Walter Hoffman of Napa; sisters, Attie Price of Maryland, Mary White of North Carolina; brother, Edward Chappell of Missouri; grandchildren, Christie, Kimberly, Jack, William, Eric, Judy and Debbie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Vaca Hills Chapel.

Karen Elizabeth Gholz

A funeral for Karen Elizabeth Gholz, 43, of Vacaville will be held at 2 p.m. July 3 at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. Chaplain Lt. Col. Arthur Homer of Travis Air Force Base will preside.

Interment will be private at Fairfield-Suisun Cemetery.

Ms. Gholz died suddenly June 21, 2000, in Napa County.

Born Feb. 11, 1957, in Sonoma, she had lived in Vacaville for 19 years.

She was a graduate of Rio Linda Academy and attended college at Pacific Union College and also attended College of Marin. She received her LVN nursing license at Hensdale and worked for Napa State Hospital and also had worked at California Medical Facility.

Ms. Gholz was a member of Easter Star Chapter No. 189 Silvarado in Napa and also No. 28 of Vacaville. She was also a member of the Fairfield Lyons Club and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross.

She is survived by her mother and step-father, Barbara and James Bybee of Fairfield; sisters, Susan Margaret Alin of McMinville, Ore. and Ann Louise Gholz of Livingston, Mont. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eric in 1988.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Ray Ervin Johnson

At his request, no formal services will be held for Ray Ervin Johnson, 54, of Fairfield. Inurnment will be private.

Born July 31, 1945, in Chicago, Mr. Johnson died June 17, 2000, at NorthBay Medical Center.

Mr. Johnson served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, and then worked for I.C. Security Services as a guard.

He loved collecting coins, was a history buff and an avid reader as well as an avid sports fan.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his son, Richard Johnson of Fairfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Grace Elenore Maxon

Services for Grace Elenore Maxon, 83, of Suisun City will be private. Her ashes will be scattered at sea.

Born March 30, 1917, in Los Angeles, Mrs. Maxon died June 17, 2000, at Sunbridge LaMariposa Convalescent Hospital.

Mrs. Maxon was employed as a waitress at Copper Boiler in Walnut Creek for 10 years.

Mrs. Maxon is survived by her daughter, Sally Bennett of Stockton; son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Shirley Maxon of Eureka; two sisters and one brother; grandchildren, Shari and Joe Babcock of Suisun City; Ron and Jennifer Marlette, Randy and Janet Marlette, all of Fairfield; Sandy and Gregg Shultz of Vacaville; former son-in-law, William Marlette and his wife, Betty of Fairfield; numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, and her daughter, Dolores Marlette.

Memorial contributions can be made to Mission Solano Rescue Mission, P.O.Box 8, Fairfield, 94533.

Philip Richard Obley

Private graveside services for Philip Richard Obley, 83, of Fairfield will be held Wednesday at Riverside National Cemetery.

Born Oct. 19, 1916, in Topeka, Kan., Mr. Obley died June 16, 2000, at David Grant Medical Center.

A longtime resident of Lake San Marco, Mr. Obley retired as a colonel in the Air Force after 29 years. He received the Legion of Merit award for his conduct and participated in the Berlin Airlift in 1949. During World War II, he was an instructor pilot.

After retiring, he became active with the Coast Guard Auxiliary Unit in San Diego. He was an instructor, as well as a flotilla commander of the unit. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association.

Mr. Obley is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeanne Obley of Fairfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Clayton Robarchek of Wichita, Kan., Sharon and Charles Houy of Washington, D.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, Philp and Patricia Obley of Philadelphia, Kevin and Rebecca Obley of Magalia; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.
