Ellen Marie Dahlquist

A memorial service for Ellen Marie Dahlquist, 78, of Vacaville will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday Oct. 24 at the Portsmouth Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Internment will be in South Dakota beside her beloved husband.

Mrs. Dahlquist died Oct. 4, 2000, in Vacaville.

Born July 9, 1922, in South Dakota, she moved to Leisure Town in 1996 from Alamo, Texas. She was engaged to the restaurant business with her husband for 25 years. They then opened a large ceramics business, which they enjoyed until their retirement in 1978. She loved the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loved and will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Dahlquist is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Luana and Calvin Wheeler of Vacaville and Tami and Keith Opland of Marietta, Ga.; 8 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ben Elizalde

Private family services for Ben Elizalde, 76, of Roseville will be in Williamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore.

Mr. Elizalde died Oct. 9, 2000, in Roseville.

Born April 1, 1924, in Fresno, he was a decorated veteran of World War II with the 8th Air Force and the 466th Bomb Group. His career was in the restaurant business, starting with Terry's in Vallejo and the Waffle Shop & Barrel Club from 1945 to 1968. He then owned Dawson's in Dixon from 1968 to 1977, along with the Brigadoon in Vacaville from 1968 to 1975. He then became the owner of Hal's Grubstake in Yuba City from 1975 to 1989. He was an avid sports fan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Claire's Catholic Church Building Fund in Roseville.

Arrangements are being handled by Chapel of the Valley in Roseville.

James Oliver Lane

A funeral for James Oliver Lane, 62, of Vacaville will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at C.P. Bannon Mortuary, Inc., in Oakland. After the services, friends and family may convene at 391 Alamo Drive in Vacaville.

Mr. Lane died Oct. 10, 2000, in Vallejo after a brief illness.

Born March 25, 1938, in Arkansas, he moved to Solano County in 1988. He was a graduate of El Cerrito High School. He was a federal employee at Mare Island Naval Base in Vallejo and Military Sea Lift Command in Oakland before retiring in 1995. He enjoyed music, traveling, architectural designs and entertaining his family. He was loved and will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.

Mr. Lane is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley of Vacaville; mother, Valerie of Oakland; daughter, Valerie Dixon of Vallejo; stepdaughters, Lisa Talton of Fairfield and Nina Mann of Oakland; stepsons, James Mann of Oakland and Ronald Mann of Vallejo; sister, Barbara Maniche of Oakland; and sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Goshen Jesse of Sacramento. He also has 19 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Anne Barnett Nickell

A memorial service for Anne Barnett Nickell, 78, of Vacaville will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18 at the Green Mill Inn in Penngrove. Those planning to attend are asked to contact Linda Cooper at (415) 492-0349.

Mrs. Barnett Nickell died Oct. 7, 2000.

Born Aug. 29, 1922, in San Francisco, she was a longtime resident of Petaluma before retiring and moving to Leisure Town. She worked for several years at the Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego and retired from the National Park Service. Before then, she worked for many years at both First National Bank of San Rafael and Bank of Marin. She enjoyed performing with the Leisure Town Entertainers Guild and modeled in the Tribute to Seniors benefit fashion shows.

She loved life and was happiest on occasions spent with family and friends. She was proud of her Maltese heritage and had wonderful memories of a visit with family in Malta. Family and fiends will cherish memories of Anne's zest for life and fun. She will be remembered as a friendly, kind, caring woman devoted to her family and loyal to her many friends.

Mrs. Barnett Nickell is survived by her children, Barney Barnett of Cloverdale, and Linda Cooper of San Rafael; grandchild, Alyson Cooper; sister, Mary Carr of Greenbrae; nephews, James Carr of Petaluma, and Robert Carr of Atherton; niece, Patricia Carr of Corte Madera; and friends, Jordan Dell-Era of Cotati and Nick Nickell of Vacaville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Marin or Hospice of Petaluma.

Arrangements are being handled by Parent-Sorensen Mortuary & Crematory in Petaluma.

Charlotte L. Fair

At her request, there will be no service held for Charlotte L. Fair, 78, of Vacaville. Interment will be at a later date in Canton, Mass.

Mrs. Fair died Oct. 12, 2000, in Vacaville after a long illness.

Born Aug. 22, 1922, in Bellows Falls, Vt., she moved to the area in 1984. She worked as an executive secretary for the medical department of Harvard University for 30 years. She was a member of AARP and Leisure Town Art Club. She enjoyed art, cooking, sewing and gardening.

Mrs. Fair is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Julie of Oceanside; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements were handled by McCune Garden Chapel.

Bernice M. Hunsicker

There will be no services held for Bernice M. Hunsicker, 81, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Hunsicker died Oct. 8, 2000, in Vacaville.

Born March 12, 1919, in Oakland, she lived in Vacaville for 13 years. She worked as a sales clerk with Mervyn's department store for 14 years. She was an avid baseball and sports enthusiast and loved gardening.

Mrs. Hunsicker is survived by her daughter, Rosalie Skipworth; grandchildren, Terri and her husband Larry Anderson of Missouri, and Mitchell Skipworth and his wife, Tracy of Vacaville; great-grandchildren, Rhea, Luke and Jerry Anderson of Missouri, and Kristin and Ryan Skipworth of Vacaville; great-great-grandson, Wyatt of Missouri; sister, Virginia Parsell of Phelan and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the NorthBay Hospice, 1800 Pennsylvania Ave., Fairfield, 94533-9980.

Arrangements were handled by McCune Garden Chapel.

Corine Jefferson

A funeral for Corine Jefferson, 50, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Solano Valley Mortuary in Fairfield. The Rev. Herbert Bell will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Jefferson died Oct. 11, 2000, after a brief illness.

Born April 11, 1950, in Martinez, Ms. Jefferson was a homemaker.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Trena and Raymond Cross of Altadena; sons, Jamahl and Jalahl Watford of Minnesota; father, Archie L. of Fairfield; sisters, Lorine Young of Suisun, Arlean Renee of Suisun and Gayle Simon of Vallejo; sister and brother-in-law Diana and the Rev. Herbert Bell of Fairfield; brothers, Archie L. Jr. of Vallejo and Christopher of Winters; and a brother and sister-in-law, Richard L. and Bobbie of Vallejo. She was preceded in death by her mother, Meline Jefferson.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today.

Arrangements are under the direction of Solano Valley Mortuary.

Peter Davis Nielsen

At his request, there will be no services for Peter Davis Nielsen, 41, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private. A celebration of his life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Three Oaks Community Center swimming pool, 1100 Alamo Drive, Vacaville.

Mr. Nielsen died Oct. 13, 2000, following an eight-month battle with cancer.

Born Dec. 3, 1958, in Fairfield, he resided in Vacaville. He graduated from Vacaville High School in 1977 and attended the University of Nebraska on a swimming scholarship. A championship swimmer since age 5, Mr. Nielsen garnered numerous awards throughout his career. After a 15-year hiatus, he rededicated himself to competitive swimming in 1992, focusing on open water events. His accomplishments included finishing 27th in a field of 400 swimmers in the Race from Alcatraz, completing the San Francisco Bay Bridge-to-Bridge swim, and several Top 10 finishes in the annual Lake Berryessa two-mile swim. He was a founding member and coach of the Vacaville Aquatic Masters and a volunteer instructor for numerous swim clinics throughout the area.

Mr. Nielsen was a California-licensed property and casualty agent with State Farm Insurance in Vacaville, where he was office manager. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing, bicycling and gold mining.

Mr. Nielsen is survived by his wife, Barbara of Vacaville; brother, Rob of Vacaville; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Duane Balch of Fair Oaks; sister, Natalie and brother-in-law, Tom O'Brien of Alexandria, Va.; nephew, Michael of Vacaville; and niece, Amy Balch of Fair Oaks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Nancy Nielsen of Vacaville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Vacaville Swim Club, c/o Andy Wedaman, P.O. Box 122, Vacaville, 95696.

Arrangements were handled by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Col. Donald H. Richardson

No services are planned for Col. Donald H. Richardson, 80, of Fairfield.

Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

Col. Richardson died Oct. 14, 2000, in Fairfield.

Born Aug 14, 1920, in Massachusetts, he was a colonel in the U.S. Army. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam before his retirement in 1973. He was an avid golfer who also enjoyed reading and walking.

Col. Richardson is survived by his wife, Barbara T.; son, Dana of Crystal Lake, Ill., brother, John of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Howard V. Hill

A graveside service will be held for Howard V. Hill, 90, of Dixon, in Silveyville Cemetery following a visitation from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home. Pastor Wesley Nordman will preside.

Mr. Hill died Oct. 14, 2000, in Woodland.

Born July 11, 1910, in Ramsey, Ill., he resided in Dixon. He retired from Travis Air Force Base after 26 years of civil service. He enjoyed being able to spend more time doing his lifelong passion of hunting.

Mr. Hill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dora M. of Dixon; children, Howard E. of Fernley, Nev., LuEtta F. Kivi of Nikiski, Alaska, Vada Faul of Antelope, Darrell of Dixon, Velma Arenas of Linda, Beverly Bennett of Winston, Ore., Thelma Swetich of Imperial and Dena Foret of Houma, La.; 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Barbara E. Low

Private family services will be held for Barbara E. Low, 78, of Vallejo. Burial will be in All Souls Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Low died Oct. 14, 2000, in Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, San Francisco after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 3, 1922, in Oakland, she resided in Vallejo for 60 years. She was a housewife. She loved gardening.

Mrs. Low is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Colleene of Forestville; twin sons, Rob and Rick, both of Vacaville; grandchildren, Christine of Forestville and Daniel III of Rohnert Park. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel A. "Bob" Low in 1976.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Twin Chapels Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to Star of the Sea Catholic Church, c/o Monsignor Charles J. Durkin, 4420 Geary Blvd., San Francisco, 94118.

Joanne E. Nunemann

At her request, there will be no services held for Joanne E. Nunemann, 66, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Nunemann died Oct. 16, 2000, in Vacaville after a long illness.

Born Aug. 22, 1934, in San Francisco, she lived in Vacaville for 8 years. She was a homemaker all her adult life. She was a member of the Solano County Widows Group. She enjoyed reading.

Mrs. Nunemann is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Tom Clark and Robin and Pat Nelson, all of Vacaville; sisters, Clarice Sutherlan of Monterey and Sharon Furtado of Santa Cruz; grandchildren, Victoria Pringle, Mathew Clark, Kenny Nelson and Nicki Nelson all of Vacaville and Jason of Newark; great-grandchildren, Kristin Clark and Halie Pringle, both of Vacaville.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements were handled by McCune Garden Chapel.

Ronald Ellsworth Rambeau

At his request, there will be no services held for Ronald Ellsworth Rambeau, Jr., 56, of Vacaville. Interment will be private in Santa Cruz.

Mr. Rambeau died Oct. 15, 2000, in his home after a long illness.

Born June 16, 1943, in Berkeley, he resided in Vacaville. He was a staff designer the past 11 years, employed with B.O.C. Group.

Mr. Rambeau is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Larry Robinson of Santa Cruz; former wife, Leora I. Rambeau of San Jose.

Arrangements were handled by Nadeau Family Funeral Home.
