Lula Mae Robinson

A funeral for Lula Mae Robinson, 72, of Fairfield will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in New Hope Church of the Nazarene.

Pastor Scott Walker will preside. Interment will be in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Robinson died Dec. 4, 2000, in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born April 3, 1928, in Sumner, Miss., she lived in Fairfield for 35 years. She worked for 16 years for the Suisun Valley Convalescent Home as a caregiver. She was a member of the New Hope Church of the Nazarene in Fairfield and did missionary work within the church. She loved to travel, sew, cook and especially loved her family.

Mrs. Robinson is survived by her husband, James of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Rosie and David Woodard of Honolulu, Hawaii; daughter Elaine Brown of Milwaukee, Wis.; grandchildren, Larry King of Fresno, Calvin King and Samantha Sullivan, both of Honolulu; five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Margaret J. Schwestka

A memorial service for Margaret J. Schwestka, 89, of Fairfield, will be 10 a.m. Dec. 15 at the Fremont Presbyterian Church in Sacramento.

Mrs. Schwestka died Dec. 3, 2000, in Fairfield.

Born May 8, 1911, she was a third generation native of Sacramento and lived there for 88 years before moving to Fairfield in 1999. She was a member of the Fremont Presbyterian Church since age 12 and was the oldest living church member at the time of her death. She and Merrill enjoyed traveling and took several trips abroad. They spent many winters in Hawaii. They also enjoyed fishing at their cabin on the American River, golfing and were charter members of Valley Hi Country Club and the La Boheme Dancing Club.

Mrs. Schwestka is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Ann Gray and John; granddaughters, Heather Thacker and Kristen Francceschini; grandsons, John and Michael Gray; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Merrill; and brothers, Carl and Victor Hencken.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to a memorial fund at her church.

Melva Joyce Williams

A visitation will be held for Melva Joyce Williams, 68, of Fairfield/Vallejo afrom 4 to 7 p.m. today in Solano Valley Mortuary.

The Rev. Joseph B. Davis will officiate. Burial will be private.

Mrs. Williams died Dec. 2, 2000, at home, after a long illness.

Born June 1, 1932, in Texas, she lived in the Fairfield/Vallejo area for eight years. She worked as a meter reader for the city of Oakland.

Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Adolphus of Oakland; daughters, Sharon and Marilyn, both of Fairfield and Charissa of Vallejo; sons, Jeffrey Waters of Oakland and Aubrey Dunkley of Fairfield; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Joseph Francis Bernardi

A Rosary and Mass of Christian burial will be held for Joseph Francis Bernardi, 91, of Vacaville at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church.

The Rev. Vincent O'Reilly will officiate. Interment will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Bernardi died Dec. 6, 2000, in Vacaville Convalescent Center after a short illness.

Born April 23, 1909, in Point Richmond, he lived in Vacaville for two years and Albany for 63 years. He worked as a roofer for Master Craft Roofing Co. for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Local Roofers Union No. 81 in Alameda and Fratellanza Italian Club of Berkeley.

He was an avid gardener.

Mr. Bernardi is survived by his wife of 63 years, Minnie of Vacaville; sisters, Teresa Meneghelli of Richmond and Anne Canellos of Windsor; a son-in-law, Ennio DePianto of Vacaville; grandchildren, Marisa Bartalotti of Suisun, Daryle DePianto of Vacaville and David DePianto of Washington, D.C. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda DePianto.

Arrangements were handled by Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Evalyn Peterson

At her request, there will be no services held for Evalyn Peterson, 92, of Fairfield. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Peterson died Nov. 29, 2000, in Vacaville Convalescent & Rehabilitation Center.

Born March 31, 1908, in Williams, she lived in Fairfield for three years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Peterson is survived by her daughter, Paige Brown of Suisun Valley; sons, Tedd of Cloverdale and Dwight of Suisun Valley; sister, Ney Dene Lance of Davis; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry and her parents, Ada and Charles Schaad.

Arrangements were handled by Solano Valley Mortuary.

John S. Smith

A Celebration of Life service will be held for John S. Smith, 60, of Fairfield and Vacaville at 2 p.m. Friday in New Hope Christian Fellowship Church.

The Rev. Ben Randall will preside. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Smith died Dec. 5, 2000, in the University of California, Davis, Medical Center in Sacramento after a battle with cancer.

Born July 8, 1940, in San Jose, he lived in the Fairfield-Vacaville area for 14 years. He graduated from Lincoln High School in San Francisco and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada in business administration in 1970.

His career was in banking and mortgage. He was a consultant with Young Mortgage. He had been a recipient of the President's Club award for five years while with Home Saving of America and a Paul Harris Award recipient.

His family owned the Tahoe Cedars Lodge for more than 50 years in Tahoma. In his youth, he spent his summers at Lake Tahoe water skiing, sailing and fishing.

Mr. Smith was an active member of the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce, chosen the Ambassador of the Year in 1998-99. He served as president and director of the Tahoe Douglas Chamber of Commerce from 1978-1983.

One of the true rewards of his life, family members said, was service to his community. He was a member of the Fairfield-Suisun Rotary Club for 14 years, transferring from the Tahoe area. He served on many committees and was an active Rotarian in Reno and Las Vegas.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Nancy of Vacaville; son, Jonathan of Las Vegas; daughters and sons-in-law, Shelby and John Erickson of Louisville, Ky., Drs. Tida and Eric Saltz of Las Vegas, and Suzann and Clint Purtee of Vacaville; daughter, Phyllis Ruiz of Vacaville; grandchildren, Travis and Tommy Purtee of Vacaville, and Sterling and Linnea Saltz of Las Vegas; and a sister, Dorothy Rayner of Millbrae, who continues to own and operate the family resort at Lake Tahoe in the summers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Christians Fellowship Building Fund, 730 E. Main St., Vacaville, 95688.

Arrangements were handled by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Philip A. Caballes

A funeral for Philip A. Caballes, 90, of Dixon, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Milton Carpenter Funeral Home. Interment is set for 1 p.m. Monday at the Santa Clara Mission Cemetery in Santa Clara.

Mr. Caballes died Nov. 28, 2000, in Davis.

Born April 20, 1910, in Cebu, the Philippines, he lived in Dixon for three years and in Santa Clara for 40 years. He retired after 25 years with the city of San Jose as an equipment operator. He was a member of the Dixon Seniors Club. He also enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Caballes is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pat; daughters, Char Bragg of Calistoga and Karen Murray of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and grandchildren, John Bragg of Oakville, Colleen Bragg of Calistoga, Jeremy and his wife, Nicole Barret, of Dixon and Morgan and his wife, Faith Barrett, of New Jersey.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today in Milton Carpenter Funeral Home.

Bruce Havercamp

A memorial service for Bruce Havercamp, 75, of Vacaville, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Church of Christ, 1116 Stanford Ave., Dixon.

Pastor Daniel Wilson will preside. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Havercamp died Dec. 2, 2000, in Vacaville, after a long illness.

Born Sept. 21, 1925, in Mattoon, Ill., he lived in Vacaville since 1978. He worked for the state of California as a medical technician and owned his own trucking company in Anchorage, Alaska. He was a member of the VFW and the Church of Christ in Dixon. He loved restoring old cars and spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Havercamp is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lora of Vacaville; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Carol of Fairfield and Larry and Christine Leikind of Milpitas; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Marie and Ronald Pascarella of Vacaville; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Contributions may be made in Mr. Havercamp's memory to the Agape Villages, 11875 Dublin Blvd., Ste. A-107, Dublin, 94568.

Billy Joe Stalcup

A memorial service for Billy Joe Stalcup, 70, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Fellowship Baptist Church. The Rev. Mark Lewis will officiate. Inurnment at sea will be private.

Mr. Stalcup died Dec. 6, 2000, at his home in Vacaville after a short illness.

Born April 26, 1930, in Wheeler, Texas, he lived in Vacaville for the past 34 years. He worked as a correction officer for 25 years before retiring in 1986. He served four years with the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing cards and going camping.

Mr. Stalcup is survived by his wife of 30 years, Louise of Vacaville; daughter, Susan Loeffler of Prescott, Ariz.; stepdaughter, Donna Ornalis of Atwater; sons, Ed of Lawton, Okla., and Gregory of Phoenix; and sister, Christine Black of Fairfield. He also has 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, William, in 1997, his stepson, Jim Killeen, in 1982, and his brothers, Archie Jordan and Henry Jordan.

Arrangements are being handled by Skyview Memorial Lawn.

Evertett R. Berggren

A funeral service for Everett R. Berggren, 88, of Vacaville will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Pastor Raleigh Galgon will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Mora, Minn. There will be another funeral service held in Mora, Minn., next week.

Mr. Berggren died Dec. 7, 2000, in Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa after a short illness.

Born Feb. 11, 1912, in South Dakota, he lived in Vacaville 12 years, and prior to that in San Jose. He worked as a dairy farmer in Minnesota. After moving to California, he worked for Kaiser Permanente as a machinist for the cement division for more than 25 years. He enjoyed woodworking and making things for his grandchildren. He loved and adored children and animals.

Mr. Berggren is survived by his wife, Rowena of Vacaville; daughters, Sandra Englund of Carlsbad, Nancy McCollum of Vacaville and Rosemary Croll of Clarkston, Wash.; a son, Judson of Elk Grove; and 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

James W. Davis

Private services will be held for James W. Davis, 68, of Dixon. Inurnment will be private and his ashes will be scattered in New Mexico.

Mr. Davis died Dec. 5, 2000, after a long battle with cancer.

Born July 23, 1932, in New Mexico, he lived in Dixon since 1978. He was a graduate of New Mexico State University and served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years before retiring as a major in 1976.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Jean of Dixon; children, Daniel of Yuba City, and Devin and Deborah, both of Dixon; and grandchildren, Nathan, Kody and Carrieann, all of Yuba City.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

John Henry Maloney

A graveside service for John Henry Maloney, 75, of Solano County will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland.

Mr. Maloney died Dec. 7, 2000, in VacaValley Hospital.

Born March 21, 1925, in Duluth, Minn., he lived in Solano County for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a grounds maintenance person at University of California, Davis. He was a member of the Vacaville VFW, the DAV and the U.S. Cavalry Association.

Mr. Maloney is survived by his wife, Mary of Woodland; a brother, Don of Milwaukee, Wis.; and a niece, Kathy, and nephew, Danny, both of Milwaukee, Wis.

A vigil will be 7 p.m. Monday at McNary's Chapel, Woodland.

Alberta 'Bert' Macdonald

A funeral for Alberta "Bert" Macdonald, 72, of Sacramento will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Silveyville Cemetery.

Mrs. Macdonald died peacefully, with dignity and courage Dec. 7, 2000, in Sacramento.

Born May 30, 1928, she was a resident of Dixon before moving to Sacramento.

Mrs. Macdonald is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Jim Ward of San Antonio, Texas, and Chrisand and Dennis Fung of Sacramento; granddaughter and her husband, Casie and John Ojeda of Austin, Texas; granddaughter, Jamie Ward of Austin, Texas; and grandson, Jeremy Fung of Reno, Nev.
