Francelia Miller

Services for Francelia 'Fran' Miller, 83, of Burney were conducted Monday at Halcumb Cemetery Chapel by Pastor Henry Winkleman of Grace Community Bible Church of Burney.

Burial was a Halcumb Cemetery in Montgomery Creek.

Mrs. Miller died August 19, 1997 at Mercy Medical Center, in Redding.

She was born January 14, 1914 in Goose Valley. She lived in Shasta County all her life.

Mrs. Miller was owner operator of various restaurants in the Intermountain area and was affiliated with the Pit River Tribe and Burney VFW Auxilliary.

She is survived by her sons Ted, Marshall, and Claude  Taylor all of Burney and George  Taylor of Hayfork.

She also leaves her daughters Jennifer Green and Nora Baremore of Red Bluff, Marilyn Panks of Burney, Hazel weeks of Corning and Arvada King of Willows.

She also leaves 32 great-grandchildren.

McDonald's Chapel of Burney handled the arrangement.

Austin Michael Maier

A memorial service for Austin Michael Maier, infant son of Michael and Debbie Maier of Fall River Mills, were held September 5, 1997 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Chuch in Fall River.

Austin died one hour after birth on September 2, 1997.

Beside his parents, he is survived by his grandparents Stan and Agnes Maier, Ken and Carol Taylor, and great grandmothers, Hilda Maier, Myrtle  Taylor and Teresa Claerhout all of Alberta, Canada.

Arrangements were handled by McDonald's Chapel of Burney.

Dr. Joseph Francis Churney

Services for Dr. Joseph Francis Churney, D.C., 75 of Burney were held on September 8, at St. Francis Catholic Church.

The rosary and vigil service was Sept. 8 at the church.

Dr. Churney died Thursday, September 4, 1997, at his residence, following a long illness.

Born, October 8, 1921 in Canonsburg, PA, he moved to Burney in 1948.

He was a chiropractor and a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, a longtime Boy Scout leader and received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America. He served on the S.U.B. S-23 during WWII from June 10, 1940 to June 10, 1946.

He was a past commander of VFW Post 5689 and Boys' State chairman. He served on the boards of the Burney Cemetery District and Burney Water District.

Survivors include his wife Jerry, daughter Jennie of Pendleton, OR, sons LeRoy of Ontario, Dan of San Jose, Joseph and Michael of Burney, brother Francis Churney of Canonsburg, PA, sister Elizabeth Popovitch of Sun Lake, AZ, sister Dorothy Patriacos of Ashtabula, OH, sister Kathleen Debaker of Hendersonville, PA, 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Francis Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 160, Burney, CA 96013.

Elaine Marie Eddings

No services will be held for Elaine Marie Eddings, 69, of Lookout who died September 3, 1997 at her residence.

She was born Auguts 21, 1928 in Healdsburg and moved to Shasta County in 1985. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Eddings is survived by her son Michael, daughter Diane Small both of Lookout, her mother Helen Winner of Riverside, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Arrangements are being handled by McDonald's Chapel of Burney.

Eugene Bailey Page

Honoring his request, no funeral services will be held for former Bishop resident Eugene Bailey Page, 88.

Inurnment of his cremated remains will take place next to his wife's at the Evergreen Cemetery in Santa Cruz.

Mr. Page was born in Fresno on April 13, 1912 to Daniel and Harriett (Bailey) Page. He died Oct. 5 in the long-term care unit of South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington', Nev.

Married to the former Ann Grace Pitts, the couple moved to Yerington in 1965 from Bishop. The couple owned and operated A& E Bearing. Mr. Page was also a member of the Naval Reserve before World War II.

Survivors include son Melvin E. Page of  Johnson City, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Grace on June 10, 1996.

Margherita `Grandmaw' Milovich

Funeral services for life-long Bishop resident Margherita Milovich, 98, were held Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Brune and Buck Mortuary Chapel. An officer of the Mt. Whitney Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star officiated. Granddaughter Suzanne Carter also officiated.

Interment followed at West Line Street Cemetery.

A Bishop resident since the age of three months, Mrs. Milovich was born in Big Pine on March 22, 1902. She died Oct. 12 at the Big Pine Care Center.

Mrs. Milovich was an active member of the Mt. Whitney Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star for as long as her health permitted.

Survivors include son Raymond and wife Donna of Bishop; son Robert and wife Peggy of Fruitland, Idaho; daughters Christine Dodd and Emily Milovich of Bishop; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Mijo "Mike" Milovich and daughter Mary Louise Goff.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Laws Railroad Museum or the charity of one's choice.

Trey Patrick McCormick

Services are planned next week for Trey Patrick McCormick, infant son of Matthew McCormick and Shae Ebell.

Trey was born on Oct. 5 at the University of Utah hospital, and died at the age of one week on Oct. 12 at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Trey is survived by his parents, Matthew McCormick and Shae Ebell of Salt Lake City; grandparents William and Debbie Ralston of Big Pine, Dana Luker and Henry Ebell of Salt Lake City, and the late Patrick McCormick; aunts, Kimberley McCormick of San Diego, and Breanna Ralston of Big Pine; uncles, Kevin McCormick of Santa Rosa, and Travis Ralston of Big Pine; and many more family members in the Owens Valley and Salt Lake City areas.

Although he lived only seven days, Trey will be loved and cherished by his family forever.

Violet C. Crowther

Family funeral services for Bishop resident Violet C. Crowther, 88, will be held at a later date.

Born in Durango,  Colo. on Jan. 11, 1912, the seven-year Bishop resident died Dec. 23 at the Big Pine Care Center.

Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law Jack and Pat Crowther of Bishop, Richard and Shirley Crowther of Ventura, Russell and Janet Crowther of San Juan Capistrano, and Kevin and Sandy Crowther of El Segundo; grandchildren Suzette Poirier, Ted Crowther, Richard Crowther, Jeremy Crowther, Laura Shook and Julie Crowther; and great-grandchildren Adam R. Poirier, Alex P. Poirier, Jacob Poirier, Jacqueline P. Crowther, Brittany Crowther, Kelsey Crowther, Andre Shook and Hope Shook.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jack P. Crowther Sr.

Terry Lee McCombs

Funeral services for Terry Lee McCombs, 50, took place Thursday, Dec. 28 at the Miller Funeral Home in Folsom.

Graveside funeral services were held at Pioneer Cemetery in Bishop on Friday Dec. 29.
He is a native of Long Beach.

Survivors include mother Mildred McCombs, daughter Christy Lee McCombs, sister and brother-in-law Joan and Fred Cooke, and niece Sherri Cooke.

Alexander Reckling

Funeral services for 28-year Bishop resident Alexander Reckling were held Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Grace Lutheran Church, Bishop. The Rev. Kenton Puls presided. Interment followed at East Line Street Cemetery.

Born in Templehof, Russia on Sept. 10, 1905, he died Dec. 25.

Mr. Reckling was a past member of the Bishop Gun Club, competing as a bench rest shooter. As a member of Grace Lutheran Church, he served on the Board of Elders, on the evangelism committee, and wrote numerous inspirational article for the church's newsletter, "Grace Notes."

Survivors include son Gary and wife Elaine of Bishop; brother Jack Reckling and wife of Romona; granddaughters Kim Reckling of Broken Arrow, Okla. and Chris King and husband Walter; and great-grandson Benjamin King of Ridgecrest.

Donations to the Hospice of the Owens Valley are requested in lieu of flowers.

Bert Augusta Alford

Graveside funeral services for Bert Augusta Alford, 93, took place Saturday, Dec. 30 at the Mt. Whitney Cemetery in Lone Pine. Pastor Ben Sparks of the Mt. Whitney Baptist Church officiated.

Mr. Alford was born on Oct. 22, 1907 in Buffalo, Mo. and died Dec. 26 at the the Rowland Convalescent Hospital in Covina.

He and wife Fletta lived at the Aberdeen Resort for 25 years. He was a rancher and loved the Sierra, where he spent many of his retirement hours fishing and enjoying his God's country.

His wife preceded him in death last year.

Survivors include sons Ted Alford of Covina and Larry Alford of Huntington Beach; sisters Thena Mummy of Fontana, Opal Hodges of Joshua Tree and Rowena Graham of Morongo Valley; one grandson; three granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
