Arthur C. Peterson, 75, of Salinas, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born icon in Coalinga and lived in Salinas for 33 years. He worked for Pacific Bell before his retirement in 1988.

Military service: Served in the Navy during World War II and in the Air Force in the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring after 21 years of service.

Memberships: Old Lions Club of Pacific Grove, Knights of Columbus No. 5140 of Madonna del Sasso Catholic Church, Knights of the Padre Palou 4th degree Assembly and St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Survivors: Wife, Margaret "Peggy" Peterson of Salinas; son, Brother Dennis Peterson of Salinas; brother, Fred Peterson of Pismo Beach; sisters, Helen Carpenter of Nevada and Ramona Toney of Lockwood, Mo.; stepbrothers, Larry Lander of Sacramento and Jim Lander of Kent, Wash.; stepsister, Abney Dixie of Coalinga; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. today, Jan. 30, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Vigil services: 7 p.m. today, Jan. 30, at the mortuary chapel.

Mass: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at St. Joseph's Church, Spreckels Boulevard and Railroad Avenue, Spreckels.

Burial: Following at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, VNA/Hospice, 957 A Blanco Circle, Salinas 93901, or Old Capitol Lions Club, Blind and Visually Impaired Center of Monterey County, 225 Laurel Ave., Pacific Grove 93950.

Infant Paul Xavier Hernandez

Infant Paul Xavier Hernandez, son of Joel and Beatrice Hernandez of Salinas, died at birth Jan. 22, 2001, at Natividad Medical Center.
Survivors: Parents; brother, Joel Hernandez Jr. of Salinas; sisters, Alyndra Marie Hernandez and Alixis Hernandez, both of Salinas; maternal grandmother, Maria Laredo of Salinas; and paternal grandparents, Paul and Maria Hernandez, of Salinas.

Services: Graveside services 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Burial: Following services at the cemetery.

Arrangements: Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Clarence Dale Boyer

Clarence Dale Boyer, 64, of Las Vegas, died of a heart attack Dec. 29, 2000, at his home.
He was born icon in Burns, Ore., and lived in Las Vegas for 31 years. He attended school in Pacific Grove and graduated in 1955. He worked in the retail automotive parts business and retired in 1998. He also managed Little League baseball for many years. The main pleasure in his life was his family. He also enjoyed all sports viewing and was a 49ers fan.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Leroy Boyer, and sisters, Cathy Meacham and Shirley Kennedy.

Survivors: Son, Charles Dale Boyer of Las Vegas; daughters, Suzanne Palmer of Henderson, Nev., and Judith Boyer and Jane Lindenmoyer, both of Hallandale, Fla.; sister, Eva Mason of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: No services; private family gathering.

Cremation: Has been held.

Arrangements: Davis Funeral Home, Las Vegas.

Jacqueline Bettis Campbell

Jacqueline Bettis Campbell, 90, of Soledad, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Eden Valley Heath Care in Soledad after a lengthy illness.
She was born icon in Inglewood and lived in Soledad for three years. She was the former owner and Realtor for Jacie Campbell Realty in Lake Tahoe from 1962 to 1977. She also was a schoolteacher and taught swimming. She loved swimming, golfing, dancing, traveling, camping, gardening and animals. She lived in Lake Tahoe for 41 years before moving to Sonoma for her retirement years. She led a full life and was a very loving person with a great sense of humor.

Survivors: Daughter, Carol Bennett of Salinas; son, Chad Campbell of Hayward; grand-children, Todd Bennett of Moreno Valley, Ronelle Otero of Salinas, and Brian Campbell and Teresa Campbell, both of Hayward; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: No services planned.

Cremation: Has been held.

Memorials: Eden Valley Health Care, 612 Main St., Soledad 93960.

Arrangements: Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Angel Fuentes

Angel Fuentes, 3, of Salinas, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Antelope Valley Hospital, Lancaster, after an automobile accident.
He was born icon in Salinas and was a lifelong resident.

He enjoyed going fishing with his family and playing with other children.

He was known by his family as "Chulo Baby" and enjoyed making everybody laugh.

Survivors: Mother, Elizabeth Fuentes of Salinas; stepfather, Oscar Morales of Salinas; maternal grandfather, Francisco Fuentes of Salinas; paternal grandparents, Olivia Morales and Joel Morales, both of Salinas; and aunts, Diana Fuentes and Monica Fuentes, both of Salinas.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 30, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Rosary: 7 p.m. today, Jan. 30, at the mortuary chapel.

Services: Final visitation at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the mortuary followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1702 Second Ave., Salinas.

Burial: Following at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas.

Opal I. Howerton

Opal I. Howerton, 79, of Salinas, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born icon in Alex, Okla., and lived in Monterey County since 1944. She was a retired secretary with Electric Supply in Salinas. She enjoyed her rose garden, sewing and her pet dog.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis E. Wood, in 1984.

Survivors: Daughter, Barbara Walter of Oak Harbor, Wash.; sister, Joyce Hilton Crew of Salinas; brother, Jerry Cowger of Bovina, Texas; aunt, Lois Gann of Salinas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services: Private graveside services will be held.

Burial: Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas.

Mary Wilks Brewer

Mary Wilks Brewer, 49, of Salinas, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born icon in Oakland and lived in Salinas for four years. She was a registered nurse. She worked for the University of California, San Francisco, and Louisiana State University Medical Center.

Memberships: Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors: Husband, Harold C. Brewer of Salinas; daughters, Deanne Brewer and Debra Brewer of Oakland; adopted daughter, Grace L. Kalebu; father, Robert L. Wilks of Hattiesburg, Miss.; sisters, Dr. Carrie Vance of Stockton, Linda Wilks of Fair Oaks, Shirley Wilks and Barbara Allison, both of Union City; brothers, Gregory Louis of Hayward and Larry Wilks of Oakland; adopted earthly father, William R. "Poppo" Woodrow of Richmond; a brother-in-law; an uncle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at the Beacon Light Seventh- day Adventist Church, 607 S. 19th St., Richmond.

Hatsue 'Butchie' Cronin

Hatsue "Butchie" Cronin, 90, of Seaside, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at the Hospice House of Monterey of natural causes.
She was born icon in Japan and lived in Monterey County for 42 years. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and friends. She was preceded in death by husband, Carmie M. Cronin, in 1971.

Memberships: Monterey Peninsula Buddhist Temple.

Survivors: Sisters, Shizue Shimazu and Miyoko Okada of Japan; and close friends, Mr. and Mrs. Doye Gay of Seaside.

Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 5, at the Monterey Peninsula Mortuary at Mission Memorial Park, Seaside, 1915 Ord Grove, Seaside.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Monterey Peninsula Mortuary.

Burial: Mission Memorial Park.

Filomena A. Pascua

Filomena A. Pascua, 84, of Salinas, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at her home following a stroke.
She was born icon in Samar, Philippines, and lived in Salinas for 24 years. She was a homemaker and previously an elementary school teacher in the Philippines after World War II. She enjoyed being with her family. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dem Pascua.

Military: She was an intelligence agent in the Philippines during WWII and eventually ranked lieutenant.

Memberships: Philippine-American Intelligent and Philippines Women College.

Survivors: Husband, Jerry Pascua of Salinas; sons, Dino Pascua of San Francisco and Elmer Pascua of New York; daughters, Adah Draper of Orange County and Nola Gaudoin of Carmel; two sisters of the Philippines; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: Held.

Burial: Held.

Isolina Bassetti Sala

Isolina Bassetti Sala, 90, of Salinas, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at her home of natural causes.
She was born icon in Vellano Valle Morobbia, Ticino, Switzerland, and lived in Salinas for 69 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Silvio A. Sala.

Memberships: Italian Catholic Federation and Madonna del Sasso Church.

Survivors: Daughter, Aldena Sala of San Francisco; sons, Delano Sala and Bruno Sala, both of Salinas; brothers, Cecil Bassetti of Greenfield, Pierino Bassetti of Gonzales, Arturo Bassetti and Lino Bassetti, both of Switzerland; and three grandchildren.

Visitation: From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Rosary: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the mortuary chapel.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Madonna del Sasso Church, 320 E. Laurel Drive, Salinas.

Mary Barnhart

Mary Barnhart, 86, of Salinas, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at SunRidge Care Center in Salinas after a lengthy illness.
She was born icon in Empire, Mont., and lived in Salinas for 80 years. She was a homemaker and formerly worked for Eckhart Seed Co. and also did domestic work in the Salinas area when she was younger.

She was preceded in death by her son, Raymond Cunha, one brother and three sisters.

Memberships: Church of Christ.

Survivors: Daughter, Donna Kimball of Pomona; sister, Faye Moore of Salinas; grandchildren, Sandra Belknap of Las Vegas, Nev., Jamie Baker of Moreno Valley and Jody Cunha of Salinas; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.
