Rachel "Teddy" Nelson, 95, of Salinas, died of natural causes Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Katherine Convalescent Hospital.
She was born icon at Mount Bald in Korbell and lived in Salinas for 64 years. She was a retired accountant with her husband, Clarence V. Nelson Painting Contractor, for 50 years. She graduated from Eureka Business College. She enjoyed traveling and gardening.

Survivors: Husband of 75 years, Clarence V. Nelson of Salinas; son, Darrell (Sue) Nelson of Walnut Creek; granddaughter, Marsee Skidmore of Mount Lake Terrace, Wash.; grandson, Randall Kent Nelson of Roseville; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 4, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 5, at the mortuary chapel.

Burial: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Elena R. Garcia, 84, of Salinas, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Salinas Care Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born icon in Pearsall, Texas, and lived in Salinas for 37 years. She was a homemaker.

Survivors: Daughter, Elizabeth Garcia of Salinas; brother, Reyes Robledo of Sunnyside, Wash.; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Rosary: 7 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at the mortuary chapel.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, April 6, at the mortuary chapel.

Burial: Following at Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Gaylerd L. 'Gay' Dales

Gaylerd L. "Gay" Dales, 94, of Salinas, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born icon in Kirkman, Iowa, and lived in Salinas for 46 years. He was the former owner/broker of Caldwell Banker, Gay Dales Inc. Realtors, Salinas.

Military service: U.S. Navy.

Memberships: Salinas Elks Lodge No. 614, charter member of Corral de Tierra Country Club, Monterey County, California and National Association of Realtors, CRS, GRI and the CRB professional designations.

Survivors: Son, Richard Dales of Salinas; daughter, Deanna Gavin of Palos Verdes Estate; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 5, Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, April 6, at the mortuary chapel with officers of the Salinas Elks Lodge No. 614 officiating.

Entombment: Following Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Herbert J. Miltz

Herbert J. Miltz, 76, of Salinas, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula after a lengthy illness.
He was born icon in Sanger and lived in Salinas for 55 years. He was a retired Civil Engineer and estimator with Granite Construction Co. for 30 years. He grew up in Santa Cruz and attended Northminster Presbyterian Church. His hobbies included woodworking, sailing, traveling and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patty, in 1981.

Military service: U.S. Navy World War II veteran, radioman with combat aircrew. He received medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Survivors: Wife of 17 years, Venita F. Miltz of Salinas; son, David Miltz of Salinas; daughter, Leslie Lambert of Salinas; sisters, Dorothy Johnson of Salinas and Mary Jane Halsey of Chico; and six grandchildren.

Services: Memorial services 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 315 E. Alvin Drive, Salinas.

Cremation: Will be held.

Memorials: Northminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 315 Alvin Drive, Salinas 93906 or the donor's favorite charity.

Richard Livingston

Richard Livingston, 73, of Salinas, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Hospice House, Monterey.
He was born icon in Plattsmouth, Neb., and lived in Monterey County for 14 years. He was a retired space engineer with NASA in Washington, D.C., and a part-time customer service representative with the Credit Bureau of the Monterey Peninsula. He was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gale Livingston, in 1981.

Military service: Graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in 1951 and Navy pilot for 15 years.

Survivors: Wife of four years, Sharline Searle Livingston of Salinas; sons, Martin Livingston of Brooklyn and Ashley Livingston of East Grand Rapids, Mich.; daughter, Maurine Schuller of Woodbridge, Va.; brother, John B. Livingston of Vero Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Services: Memorial services at U.S. Naval Academy at a later date.

Memorials: Pulmonary Wellness Program, Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, 576 Hartnell St., No. 260, Monterey 93940.

Price 'Robbie' Robinson

Price "Robbie" Robinson, 84, of Dawsonville, Ga., died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born icon in Dahlonega, Ga., and lived in Salinas for more than 40 years before moving back to Georgia in 1979. He was a truck driver with Harden Farms and Delta Lines for more than 40 years in Salinas before retiring. He was a poultry farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois W. Robinson, in January 1995.

Military service: U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific with the Construction Battalion (C Bs).

Memberships: Teamsters Local No. 890 in Salinas and Cattleman's Association in Dawsonville.

Survivors: Daughter, Paula Robinson of Monterey; son, Steve Robinson of Dawsonville, Ga.; and sisters, Velma Rice and Annie Mae Elrod, both of Dawsonville, Eula Grant of Gainesville, Ga., Maggie Abbott of Cumming, Ga., and Frances Sumner of Rome, Ga.

Services: Have been held.

Leonard Gehringer

Leonard Gehringer, 97, of Monterey County, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born icon on the Hoopa Indian Reservation and lived in Monterey County since 1924. He worked as a troubleshooter with Pacific Gas & Electric Co. for 39 years. He graduated from Gilroy High School and was captain and quarterback of the school's first football team in 1922. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Millie Gehringer, in 1991.

Military service: 55th U.S. Navy Construction Battalion in the South Pacific during World War II.

Memberships: Coast Valleys Retirees Club and the Seabee Historical Foundation.

Services: No services planned.

She graduated from Santa Barbara High School and Santa Barbara Business College. She enjoyed bridge, traveling and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Kirkpatrick, in 1976.

Memberships: Alpha Nu Phi Epsilon Phi Sorority.

Survivors: Sons, Melvin D. Kirkpatrick of Gilroy and Timothy L. Kirkpatrick of Leesburg, Va.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

John F. Griffith, 80, of Salinas, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Skyline Convalescent Hospital of pneumonia.
He was born icon in Denver and lived in Salinas for two years. He previously lived in Carmel Valley for six years. He was a retired regional manager for distribution for the Los Angeles Times newspaper.

Military: U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

Anne M. Rank, 67, of Salinas, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born icon in Oakland and lived in Salinas for 62 years. She was homemaker and a retired teacher's aide with the Salinas City School District. She graduated from Escondido High School in 1951 and Hartnell Community College. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, cooking and baking. She enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors: Son, Jerry Rank of San Francisco; daughters, Cheryl Mock of Hollister, Dotty Juneau of Susanville, Cindy Vargas and Sandy Rank, both of Salinas; brother, Bayard Young of Alameda; and six grandchildren.
