Emma Villa Agraan
Emma Villa Agraan, 70, of Salinas, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Salinas Care Center.
She was born
in Chandler, Ariz., and lived in Salinas for 65 years. She worked for Katherine Convalescent Hospital. She loved dancing, cooking and being with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anselmo Resquir and Adela Durate, and her husband, Pete Aguilar Agraan.
Survivors: Son, Pete Agraan Jr. of Sacramento; daughters, Lillian Agraan, Patricia Lee Agraan and Rosie Agraan Cannon, all of Salinas, Estrella Conner of Folsom, Anna M. Agraan of Hollister and Charlotte Amaro of Gonzales; brothers, Al Resquir and Henry Resquir; sisters, Delia villa, Rachel Factora and MaryLou Garis; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Alta M. Alexander
Alta M. Alexander, 66, of Watsonville, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
She was born
in Washington and lived in the Salinas and Watsonville area for 34 years. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Baker.
Memberships: Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors: Husband of 48 years, David L. Alexander of Watsonville; sons, David Allen Alexander of Watsonville and Charles Jesse Alexander of Washington; daughter, Kathiren Butterworth of Brownsville; and nine grandchildren.

Kash Thomas Dovolis
Kash Thomas Dovolis, 40, of Greenfield, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in Greenfield in an automobile accident.
He was born
in Salinas and lived in Greenfield for 10 years. He worked in produce sales for Ocean Mist Farms. He graduated from Palma High School in 1979. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors: Father, Ernest Peter Dovolis of Carmel; mother, Lolita Dovolis of Salinas; brother, Angelo Dovolis of Salinas; one niece and one nephew.
Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, June 20, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.
Chapel blessing: 3 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at the mortuary chapel.

Jerome 'Jerry' Kasavan
Jerome "Jerry" Kasavan, 82, of Salinas, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Skyline Nursing Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born
in Modesto and lived in Salinas for 77 years. He graduated from Salinas High School and the University of California, Berkeley. He earned his Eagle Scout badge in the Monterey Bay Area Council.
He was a retired architect, founding the firm Jerome Kasavan Associates in Salinas in 1949. He designed many of Monterey County's landmark buildings. Among them are Hartnell College, Poppy Hills Golf Course Club House, additions to Natividad Medical Center, Temple Beth El and dozens of schools from King City to north Monterey County, including Alisal and North Salinas high schools.
His work has been published nationally and recognized with design awards from the American Institute of Architects -- Monterey Bay, the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, the Masonry Institute and other organizations.
He was a local pioneer in the application of passive and active solar energy systems in buildings. The panel array he designed gave Hartnell College the largest solar-heated swimming pool in the world at the time of its completion. The College Center was recognized for energy conservation by the National School Boards Association. He was selected to serve as a Citizen Ambassador with a contingent of solar energy experts on a 1989 People to People excursion to China.
Military service: Captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Memberships: Charter member of Corral de Tierra Country Club and past member of American Institute of Architects, Salinas Elks, Salinas Jaycees, Coalition of Adequate School Housing and Chi Alpha Kappa Fraternity. He served on the city of Salinas Library Commission for 15 years.
Survivors: Wife, Bettie Kasavan of Salinas; sons, Peter Kasavan and Jeffrey Kasavan, both of Salinas; daughter, Christine Stafford of Rockland; and seven grandchildren.

Alma Marsh Gee
Alma Marsh Gee, 88, of Salinas, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after an illness.
She was born
in Globe, Ariz., and lived in Salinas for 67 years. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nickolas R. Gee, in 1980.
Memberships: Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, life member of Women of the Moose No. 658, joining in 1942; life member of the OFL, retired officers auxiliary association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7890 of Salinas and former member of the Salinas Women's bowling association where she held several offices, and active in two leagues until losing her sight.

Hull of Lakeside, Ariz.; stepson, Nick Gee II of Salinas; stepdaughters, Annabel Ellenson of Santa Clara, Betty Crow of Arizona, Helen Bliss of Salinas and Nancy Harmelin of Ahwalee; grandsons, Kenny Dix and Kurt Dix; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Ethel Mae Turner
Ethel Mae Turner, 77, of Seaside, died of natural causes Sunday, June 17, 2001, in Monterey.
She was born
in Louisiana and lived in Monterey County for 35 years. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her son, Gilbert Turner, in 1972.

Warlito C. Alonzo, 34, of Salinas, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a fork lift accident.
He was born
in Laoag City, Philippines, and lived in Salinas for one year. He worked as a fork lift operator at McCormick Schilling Co.
Survivors: Wife, Evelyn Alonzo of Salinas; son, Ryan Alonzo of Salinas; parents, Benigno and Marcelina Alonzo of San Francisco; sisters, Renita Domingo and Imelda Faraon, both of the Philippines, and Belma Bungcayao of Salinas; brothers, Benito Alonzo of the Philippines and William Corpuz and Benmar Alonzo, both of San Francisco; maternal grandparents, Aurelio and Juana Corpuz of San Francisco; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Netti W. Davis, 87, of Salinas, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Hospice House in Monterey after a brief illness.
She was born
in Paducah, Texas, and lived in Salinas for 51 years. She was a retired vocational nurse. Her hobbies included traveling, shopping, cooking and collecting antiques.

Jesus M. Juarez, 65, of Castroville, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto after an illness.
He was born
in Chihuahua, Mexico, and lived in the Salinas Valley for 40 years. He was the owner/operator of Chiquita Packing Co.
Survivors: Wife, Armida Juarez of Salinas; son, Jesus Juarez Jr. of Pacific Grove; sister, Paz Juarez of Mexico; aunt, Carmen Juarez of El Paso, Texas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Frances H. Rammer
Frances H. Rammer, 74, of Salinas, died May 15, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born
in Brooklyn, N.Y., lived in Salinas from 1966 to 1974 and 1983 to 2001, and in Monterey from 1975 to 1983.
She was an assistant bank manager with Bank of American in Monterey and with Bank of America and Security Pacific for 17 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon D. Rammer, in 1982.
Survivors: Sons, Alan D. Rammer of Aberdeen, Wash., and Steven M. Rammer of Puyallup, Wash.; brother, Fred Harris of Paramas, N.J.; sister, Harriet Borger of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and grandchildren, Justin, Megan and Amanda.

Robert O. Wence
Robert O. Wence, 77, of Greenfield, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Katherine Convalescent Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born
in Granada, Colo., and lived in Monterey County for 60 years. He was a salesman with NH3 Co. before his retirement, and also worked with Triangle Pure Grow Co. He enjoyed hunting.
Military service: merchant marine.
Memberships: Former member of Salinas Moose Lodge.
Survivors: Wife of 39 years, Joann Wence of Greenfield; sons, Bill Wence and Jody Wence, both of Nashville, Bobby Wence of Watsonville and Eddie Wence of Greenfield; daughter, Georgann Wence of McKinleyville; sisters, LaHoma Waldrop of Salinas and Marlyn Hicks of Sonora; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
