Evelyn McClellan Kelly
Evelyn McClellan Kelly, 87, of Salinas, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born
in Hanford, lived in Pacific Grove for 20 years and in Salinas for 58 years. She was a former secretary to the city manager of Pacific Grove, Erwin Dames, and a former employee of Pacific Gas and Electric Co. in Salinas before her retirement. She was a graduate of Pacific Grove Grammar School and Pacific Grove High School, in 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Kelly, in 1998, her sister, Alta Louise Field, in 1978, and her brother, Cecil McClellan, in 1959.
Survivors: Son, Marshal (Darleen) Sutherland of Salinas, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Benjamin Acosta of Redwood City died Sunday, April 22, 2001, in Stanford.
He was born
in Fresno and lived in Redwood City for six years. He was preceded in death by his father, Isaac Acosta, in 1995.

Jessie Marie Luna
Jessie Marie Luna, 82, of Salinas, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Skyline Nursing Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born
in Anaheim and lived most of her life in the Soledad and Salinas areas. She lived in Salinas for 50 years.
She was a loving, dedicated wife and mother and the love of her life was being with her family, especially her brothers and sisters at family gatherings. She loved cooking special dishes for her family and will be remembered for her love and kindness to all.

Elias M. Marcos, 91, of Salinas, died of natural causes Monday, April 23, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
He was born
in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, and lived in Salinas for 75 years. He retired after working as an agricultural laborer for 50 years. In his younger years, he enjoyed dancing, gardening and visiting the sick.
Military service: Four years Army.

Robert Earl Helm
Robert Earl Helm, 78, of Salinas, died Monday, April 23, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born
in Akron, Ohio, and lived in Salinas for 37 years. He was a retired chemical engineer with Sigma Form Co. and retired chief chemist with the Firestone Rubber Co. after 29 years. He received a bachelor of science from Akron University. He received the 1970 Past Loma Vista PTA Honorary Service Award, was an Eagle Scout and neighborhood commissioner and assistant scoutmaster of Troop No. 233, and past cubmaster of Cub Pack No. 5. He received a 30-year veteran award from the Boy Scouts of America for his scouting services. He also was active in the Salinas YMCA in the Indian Guides and volunteer in the Y building fund and membership funds. In 1993, he received an award for Volunteer of the Year at Natividad Medical Center.
Military service: World War II U.S. Army veteran and received three Bronze Stars.
Memberships: First United Methodist Church and active with the church youth groups, Sunday school and lay leader. Also a former member of the Firestone Toast Masters Club.
Survivors: Wife, Shirley Helm of Salinas; sons, Robert Helm of Columbia, Md., Todd Helm of Yorba Linda and Scott Helm of Champaign, Ill.; and six grandchildren.

Nicanor B. 'Nick' Losada
Nicanor B. "Nick" Losada, 87, of Salinas, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Salinas Care Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born
in San Francisco and lived in Salinas for 55 years. He was a retired chef with Charlie's Restaurant and farmed strawberries in the Salinas Valley before becoming a chef. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Losada, in 1994, and daughter, Nikki Frank, in 1990.
Military service: Staff sergeant in the 1st and 2nd Filipino Regiment during World War II.
Memberships: Grand Oriente Filipino Masonic Organization for 60 years, Filipino Community, member and present chaplain of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7895, American Legion and the Laoaguenians Association in America.
Survivors: Daughter, Sally Ugale of Salinas; sons, Dominador Losada of Yuma, Ariz., and Sam Losada, Nick Losada, Allen Losada and David Losada, all of Salinas; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tressa A. Davey
Tressa A. Davey, 90, of Paso Robles and Templeton, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Templeton Hospital.
She was born
in Sioux City, Iowa, and lived in Salinas for 36 years before moving to Paso Robles. While in Salinas she served on the Monterey County grand jury and the board of directors for the Monterey County Hospital. She raised many foster children. She was active in Women of the Farm Bureau, Over 50's Plus Club and the American Legion as a volunteer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellison Davey, in 1985, and son, Robert, in 1936.
Survivors: Sons, Dan of Chico and Melvyn of St. Helena; sister, Marion Roen of San Jose; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Flossie Bell Blackmon
Flossie Bell Blackmon, 87, of King City, died of natural causes Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas.
She was born
in Carrolton, Ark., and moved to Harrison, Ark., about one year ago to live with her son and daughter due to health reasons. She previously owned and operated Topper CafÈ and El Topo Hotel on the 300 block of Broadway. She was a Christian. She liked to work outside in her garden and enjoyed crafts, outings with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ray Blackmon, sisters, Pauline Gabert, Alma Patterson, Dicia Rutherford, Irma Green, Lillian Bell, and brothers, Dick Sims, William Sims, Erton Sims and Crandell Sims.

He was born
in Morgan Hill and lived in Salinas for 51 years. He was a retired bus driver with Greyhound. He was a 1935 graduate of Gilroy High School and enjoyed woodworking.
