Margaret 'Penny' Haley
Margaret "Penny" Haley, of Salinas, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at her residence.
She was born
in New Mexico. She was the owner of Russell Trailer Park. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling, trips to Reno and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed volunteering for skilled nursing facilities.
Survivors: Husband, Maurice Haley of Salinas; daughter, Sandra Snodgrass of Salinas; sisters, Ree Barrett of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Anne Gram of Anaheim; granddaughter, Debora Fink of Salinas; three great-grandchildren; and a longtime friend of 26 years, Paulette Reed of Salinas.
Visitation: Noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 22, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, July 23, at Whitehurst Muller Chapel, East Alisal and Pajaro streets, Salinas.

M.C. Clarkson
M.C. Clarkson, 77, of Salinas, died on Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in Palo Alto, after a long illness.
He was a retired art director, working at visual information media at Fort Ord for the civil service. He also had worked as art director at Standard Oil of Indiana in Tulsa, Okla.; art director, KSBW-TV in Salinas; artist and planner for the Monterey County Planning Commission; art director for Monterey County Office of Education; illustrator on-the-job-training school for the Army at Ford Ord; crop dusting; wingman at Kathy Landry Air Circus; and co-pilot for Delta Airlines.
He won the Horace Heidt Talent Competition, Southwest Region, in 1950; was a founding member and lead singer of Tulsa Opera; a soloist in many churches throughout the country and hosted a radio program titled 'Clarkson Presents' in Tulsa.
Military: U.S. Army, World War II, flight instructor. Oaklahoma National Guard.

Doris E. Wheeler
Doris E. Wheeler, 81, of Salinas, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born
in Fayette City, Pa., and lived in Salinas since 1992. She was an administrator for the Covina Valley Unified School District for 34 years. She graduated from the University of California in California, Pa. And received her master's degree from California State University, Los Angeles.
Memberships: El Gabilan Chapter No. 574 O.E.S., Ankh Court No. 92, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Elks Campers and Phi Beta Kappa.
Survivors: Husband, John Wheeler of Salinas; daughter, Mary Husby of Prunedale; son, John D. Wheeler of Simi Valley; sister, Margaret Householder of Newport News, Va.; and two grandchildren.

George Wade Upton
George Wade Upton, 84, of Eagle Point, Ore., died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at his home.
He was born
in Marble City, Okla., and moved to Rogue Valley in 1993 from Galt. He was a designer, welder and builder of mechanized machinery all his life. After his retirement, he worked in baggage and freight movement at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield. His greatest pleasures were farming and nature.
Survivors: Wife, Margaret Upton of Eagle Point, Ore.; daughter, Catherine Fleshman of Eagle Point, Ore.; son, Tom Upton of New Port Richey, Fla.; brothers Paul Upton of Exeter and Carnell Upton of Weiser, Idaho; and two great-grandchildren.

Irineo Junior Aldama, 18, of Salinas, Wednesday, July 25, 2001, in Castroville in an automobile accident.
He was a lifelong resident of Salinas.

Frank Ashby, 71, of Salinas, died unexpectedly Friday, July 27, 2001, at his home.
He was born
in Clayton, N.M., and lived in Salinas for 56 years. He was a fork lift operator, retiring from Champion International after 30 years.
Military service: Air Force for four years during the Korean War.

Richard E. Watts, 70, of Salinas, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas following an illness.
He was born
in Cresco, Iowa, and lived in Salinas for 20 years. He was a soldier.

Zelda Corbari
Zelda Corbari, 86, of Salinas, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at her daughter's home in Concord after a lengthy illness.
She was born
in Colorado Springs, Colo., and lived in Salinas for 65 years. She was a homemaker and before retiring was a salesperson for Stanley Home Products. She was the secretary for the Older American Advisory Council during the 1980s and was the founder of the Senior Center Foundation during the 1980s, which became recognized in June 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Corbari, in 1994.
Memberships: Monterey Bay Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Monterey County Area Agency on Aging, Foster Grandparents, American Association of Retired Persons, Seventh Day Adventist Church and Democratic party.

Randy Greer, 49, of Prunedale, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
He was born
in Norfolk, Va., and lived in the Prunedale area for 27 years. He was a heavy equipment operator with Granite Construction. He was an avid sports fan.

Elicio M. Martinez, 81, of Salinas, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Skyline Convalescent Hospital after an illness.
He was born
in Tinnie, N.M., and lived in Salinas for two years. He was a general laborer with Tot Sadler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daria Martinez, in 1991.
Military services: U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific.

E. Rosecella Cummings
E. Rosecella Cummings, 99, of Soledad, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Eden Valley Care Center.
She was born
in Barrett, Minn., and lived in Reno from 1937 to 1996 before moving to Soledad. She was a registered nurse and enjoyed her involvement with the Reno Humane Society and her hobbies raising dogs and cats, gardening and restoring antiques. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Cummings, in 1964. He was chief of detectives for the Reno Police Department.
Survivors: Niece, Donna Gutierrez of Salinas; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Services and placement of ashes: Later date at Mount View Cemetery.
Cremation: Has been held.

Olivia Martin, 79, of Marina, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after an illness.
She was born
in Fall River, Mass., and lived in Marina for eight years. She was the co-owner and operator of Martin Upholstery in Chico.

Survivors: Husband, Henry J. Martin Sr. of Marina; sons, Henry J. Martin Jr. of Chico, Glenn A. Martin of Red Bluff and Wayne B.
