George J. Morgan
George J. Morgan, 79, of Prunedale, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, in Watsonville.
He was born
on an Indian reservation near Creek Mine, Okla., and moved to Prunedale in 1947. He began and ran a successful family trucking business, hauling fertilizer throughout Central California.
Survivors: wife of 59 years, Jennie Morgan of Prunedale; sons, Raymond Morgan of Tres Pinos, Ronald Morgan and Bill Lee Morgan, both of Hollister, and Stanley Morgan of King City; brothers, Raymond E. Morgan of Las Lomas, Harold Lee Morgan and Gene Stillwell, both of Oklahoma, and Glenn "Mickey" Smith of Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Mehl's Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the mortuary chapel. Private graveside services at a later date.
Uri Cervantes
Uri Cervantes, 11, of San Ardo, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in San Ardo after a motorcycle accident.
He was born
in Salinas and lived in San Ardo and was a student at San Ardo School. He enjoyed playing soccer, riding motorcycles, playing Nintendo 64 and playing with his friends. He was a happy individual and a class clown loved by all.
Survivors: Parents, Santiago Cervantes and Maria E. Romo of San Ardo; brothers, Miguel Cervantes, Jesus Cervantes and Jose Serrato, all of San Ardo; and sisters, Jesbell Cervantes, Fabiola Cervantes, Elida Cervantes, Stephanie Serrato, Benacir Serrato and Eunice Serrato, all of San Ardo.

Fortunata Albon Cogo
Fortunata Albon Cogo, 82, of King City, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Sunbridge Watsonville West in Watsonville after a lengthy illness.
She was born
in Hawaii and lived in King City for five years. She was a homemaker.
Survivors: Sons, Dominador Cogo and Alberto Cogo, both of King City.

Marie Kessinger Sportsman
Marie Kessinger Sportsman, 52, of Denair, died of natural causes Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at her place of work.
She was born
in Lockhart, Texas, and was raised in Salinas. She moved to Oroville in 1991, and Denair in 2000. She was a security guard. She was preceded in death by her son, Scott, and father, Wayne.
Survivors: Husband, Gail Sportsman of Denair; children, Le Awna Dayberry of Texas and Shawn Coyington of Oroville; stepchildren, Kelley Dean of Arizona, Lisa Sportsman of Turlock, Janell De Beau of Idaho and Brenda Rocha of Denair; mother, Dorothy Kessinger of Modesto; brothers, Jimmy Kessinger and Roy Kessinger, both of Salinas, Gene Kessinger of Oroville and Ricky Joe Kessinger of Florida; sister, Patricia Thomas of Bakersfield; and 10 grandchildren.

Eve Maryjane Perez-Gonzales
Eve Maryjane Perez-Gonzales, 5 days old, of Seaside, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at University of California, San Francisco Medical Center after her premature birth.
Survivors: father, Victor Gonzales Jr. of Seaside; mother, Alejandra Perez of Seaside; maternal grandparents, Salvador and Antonia Perez of Seaside; paternal grandparents, Victor and Juana Gonzales of Seaside; and several aunts and uncles.

Shirle M. Aragon
Shirle M. Aragon, 61, of Salinas, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in Salinas after a lengthy illness.
She was born
in Watsonville, grew up in Arroyo Seco and was a lifelong resident of Monterey County. She was a homemaker. She graduated from Gonzales High School in 1957. She was an avid reader and collector of cookbooks and will be remembered for her love of life, strength of spirit and devotion to family and friends.
Memberships: Our Lady of Solitude Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Survivors: Husband of 43 years, Jesse Aragon of Salinas; daughter, Camille Aragon of Salinas; son, Brenden Aragon of Gonzales; stepdaughters, Betty Lopez and Rose Aaron, both of Salinas; stepsons, Jesse Aragon Jr. of San Jose and Richard Aragon of Soledad; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Ernesto Maggini
Ernesto Maggini, 105, of Salinas, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at Natividad Medical Center ECU after a brief illness.
He was born
in Vogorno, Switzerland, and lived in the Monterey area for 88 years. He was a retired dairyman. In May, he was interviewed in Salinas by a representative of Swiss-Italian television for a program that later aired in Switzerland and was seen by relatives living there. He came to the Salinas Valley in 1913. He was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Ida Maggini, Jan. 23, 1998.
Memberships: Madonna del Sasso Church.
Survivors: son, Ernie (Tia) Maggini of Salinas; daughters, Wilma (Howard) Hennig and Hilda (Robert) Gagnon, both of Salinas; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Howard F. Coyle
Howard F. Coyle, 69, of Salinas, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Sunridge Care and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born
in Montana and lived in Salinas for 10 years.

Antonio Guzman
Antonio Guzman, 78, of Soledad, died of natural causes Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Terreno Gardens in Los Gatos.
He was born
in Jalisco, Mexico, and was living in San Jose. He was a retired laborer with OP Murphy. His son, Antonio Guzman Jr., preceded him in death.

Gladys L. Wire
Gladys L. Wire, 72, of Pacific Grove, died of esophageal cancer Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Hospice House in Monterey.
She was born
in Pelham, N.C., lived in Sunnyvale for 30 years and in Pacific Grove for nine years. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant and a dental assistant. She did volunteer work with Stanford University Medical Center, Kaiser Santa Clara, Meals on Wheels and Monterey Peninsula Volunteer Services.
Survivors: Husband, Dale Wire of Pacific Grove; daughters, Barbara Reddy of Rocklin and Jill Wire of Oakland; sisters, Irene Booth of Blairs, Va., and Jeanine Dix of Bellevue, Neb.; brother, Charles Ware of Tampa, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

William David Binsacca
William David Binsacca, 70, of Soledad, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at his home from complications of cancer.
He was born
in King City and was a lifelong resident of Soledad. He grew up in the Soledad Mission District and graduated from the Mission Grammar School, Gonzales High School, Hartnell College and attended San Jose State. He was in charge of fiscal affairs and district purchases for Salinas Union High School before becoming director of administration and business for the Monterey County Office of Education. Before retiring, he transferred to the Soledad School District as its chief fiscal officer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Silvio and Anne, and his sister, Betty Paulson.
Military Service: U.S. Army in Korea.
Survivors: Wife, Jennie Binsacca of Soledad; daughter, Jill McCarthy of Citrus Heights; son, Jeff Binsacca of Greenfield; sister, Genevieve Daly of Campbell; and five grandchildren.
Services: At his request, none will be held.

Arthur 'Art' Henry Piffero
Arthur 'Art' Henry Piffero, of Gonzales, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, quietly in his home in Gonzales.
He immigrated at a young age to Salmon Creek where he graduated from the Marin County school system. He later moved to Gonzales where he lived for 65 years. Southern Pacific & Mitchell Sillman Warehouse Co. employed him for 38 years. He also was involved in American Legion Baseball as well as many years as a coach of Little League baseball in Gonzales. He was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan and attended his first game in 1947.
He could always be found supporting youth sports activities. He was known for his humor and giving heart.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Piffero, in 1956; parents, Richard and Gemma Piffero; brother, Sergio Piffero; and sister, Erna Domenighini.
Military Service: U.S. Army before and during World War II and was honorably discharged. He served in both the Aleutian and European theaters, landing in the D-Day Invasion with the Third Army and at the Battle of the Bulge. He earned the American/EAME Campaign medal, American Defense Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, European African Middle Eastern Campaign, Good Conduct and the World War II Victory. He was awarded the 50th Anniversary Medaille Du Jubile with Citation for his participation in the Battle of Normandy by Rene Garrec, president du Conseil Regional de Basse-Normandie.
Memberships: American Legion Post 81 for 57 years, serving four times as commander; Gonzales Booster Club; joined Monterey County Swiss Club in 1945 and served on its board of directors; Northern California Pro Ticino Club; St. Theodore's Catholic Church.
Survivors: Wife, Eunice Piffero of Gonzales; son, Gordon Piffero of Salinas; brothers, Richard Piffero of Gonzales and Alvin Piffero of Soledad; brother-in-law, Alvin Silva of Novato; sister, Delores Silva of Novato; sisters in-law Nancy Piffero of Salinas, Shirley Piffero of Gonzales and Phyllis Piffero of Soledad; grandchildren, Cathyrn Piffero of Salinas and Melissa Piffero of Salinas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 23, at St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Gonzales.
Burial: Gonzales District Cemetery.
