Margaret Ellen Weekley
Margaret Ellen Weekley, 90, of Salinas, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born
in Pittsburg, Kan., and lived in Salinas since 1929. She was a sales clerk with Porter and Irvine Department Store in Salinas before retiring. She enjoyed singing.
Survivors: Sister, Judy Reynolds of Salinas; and several nieces and nephews.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.
Burial: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.
Cameron Sapp
Cameron Sapp, 86, of Salinas, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Natividad Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was a native of Tennessee and lived in Salinas for 25 years. He retired as a restaurant manager. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Sapp, in 1997.
Survivors: Daughter, Toddie Chambers of Salinas; two grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and one great-great-granddaughter.
Services: At the family's request, none will be held.
Disposition: Cremation will be conducted by Healey Mortuary.
Arrangements: Healey Mortuary.
Margaret Sue Chavez
Margaret Sue Chavez, 56, of Watsonville, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, of natural causes.
She was born
in Prinston, W. Va., and lived in the Watsonville area for 26 years. She was a first-grade teacher for the Spreckels School District for 25 years.
Survivors: Son, Alex Chavez of Watsonville; daughter-in-law, Elyse Destout of Watsonville; brothers, Roderick Madrid of Watsonville, Angelo Madrid of West Covina, and Wesley Aley of Southern California; and two grandchildren.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 437 Rogers St., Watsonville.

Charles Poole
Charles Poole, 85, of King City, died of natural causes Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Twin Cities Hospital in Templeton.
He was born
in Granite City, Ill., and was self-employed in delivery. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter. He was a very hard worker and provided well for his family. His wife, Helen Poole, preceded him in death, in 1996.
Military service: U.S. Army.
Memberships: King City Veterans of Foreign Wars 6747 and Silver Kings and Queens.
Survivors: Son, Alvin Poole of King City; daughter, Sharon Munroe of Imperial; and granddaughter, Janet Marchetti of San Marcos.
Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 31, at Whitehurst Grim Funeral Chapel, 429 Bassett St., King City.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at the mortuary chapel.

Royce A. 'Roy' Carbaugh
Royce A. "Roy" Carbaugh, 81, of Salinas, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Salinas Care Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born
in Warren, Pa., and lived in Salinas for 30 years. He was a retired Social Security officer with 20 years of service.
Military service: Retired U.S. Army captain after 20 years of service, a veteran of World War II, Korean War and Vietnam, and a recipient of the Bronze Star.
Survivors: wife of 59 years, Audry Carbaugh of Salinas; Patti (Bill) Nagy of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; and sister, Rachel Smith of Warren.
Visitation: From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Barbara Jean Hurlburt
Barbara Jean Hurlburt, 72, of King City, died of cancer Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
She was born
in Grants Pass, Ore., and lived in King City since 1954. She was a retired clerical supervisor with Monterey County Social Services, working in the King City and Soledad offices. After her retirement, she pursue varied interests. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, nature and anything to do with the outdoors; her pets, painting, spending time with her friends and family, especially her great-grandchildren; and she loved life. She graduated from Lemoore High School. Her husband, Roy Hurlburt, preceded her in death, in 1986.
Memberships: George L. Mee Memorial Hospital Service League, hospitality chairman and a member of the Bishop's Committee at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, the outreach program of the American Cancer Society, Silver Kings and Queens and the King City Stagehands. She also participated in many plays and musicals over the years.
Survivors: Daughter, Kathy Handley of King City; brothers, John (Anne) Taylor of Redding, Bob (Pat) Taylor of Roseville and Bruce Taylor of Shasta Lake City; sister-in-law, Frieda Hurlburt of Fresno; grandchildren, Trish Frudden, Kate Handley and Liz Handley, all of King City, and Michael Handley of Salinas; great-grandchildren, Logan and Zane Caulk and Jace and Camryn Frudden; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Services: Memorial celebration of life at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 301 Bassett St., King City, followed by an old-fashioned Irish wake in the parish hall.

Hermogenes Abendanio Llanes Sr.
Hermogenes Abendanio Llanes Sr., 89, of Salinas, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at his home after an illness.
He was born
in Puro Kawayan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, and lived in Salinas for 72 years. He retired as foreman and bookkeeper with Orreigo Farms. He was an amateur boxer, avid fisherman and gardener, and enjoyed playing cards, visiting with his family and friends and wrestling. He was a graduate of Practical Electronics, Radio & Television Private College.
Military service: 2nd Filipino Battalion in the U.S. Army, private 1st class, receiving American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star, three Bronze Stars for New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon campaigns and a Purple Heart of Honor.
Memberships: Fil-Visayan Association in America, Madonna del Sasso parish, Filipino American Catholic Association, Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 101 of Salinas and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors: Wife of 34 years, Virginia Bang-As Brown Llanes of Salinas; daughter, Lyvonmarie L. Fernandez of Salinas; son, Hermogenes B. Llanes Jr. of Salinas; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John F. Gipson
John F. Gipson, 80, of Burbank, died of cardiovascular disease Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank.
He was born
in Ratcliff, Ark., and was a former Salinas-area resident. He retired from Spreckels Sugar Co. after more than 20 years of service. He enjoyed watching the World Wrestling Federation, Dodger baseball, Lakers basketball and "The Jerry Springer Show."
Survivors: Daughter, Karen Kunn of Coalinga; brother, James Gipson of Clarksville, Ark.; grandchildren, Crystal Fontanilla, Reggie Martinez, Susan Lunn and Michael Lunn; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation: 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Whitehurst Muller Funeral Service, East Alisal and Pajaro streets, Salinas.
Cremation: In Soquel after visitation.
Jose G. Hernandez
SOLEDAD
Jose G. Hernandez, 70, of Soledad, died of natural causes Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at his home.
He was born
in Jalisco, Mexico, and was a labor foreman with SoMoCo Labor Supply. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and having yard sales. He was a very giving person and always helped people in need. He was preceded in death by his son, Jaime Hernandez.
Survivors: Wife, Clementina Hernandez of Soledad; sons, Juan Hernandez of Greenfield and Samuel Hernandez of Soledad; daughters, Beatrice Hernandez and Lucy Hernandez, both of Soledad, and Manuela Lopez Hernandez of Castroville; brothers, Jose Hernandez of Tijuana, Mexico, and Jose Cruz Hernandez and Jesus Hernandez, both of Yuma, Ariz.; sisters, Socorro Hernandez of Guadalupe, Mexico, and Juana Hernandez of Mexico City; 26 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Whitehurst Terry Funeral Chapel, 395 East St., Soledad.
Rosary: 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the mortuary chapel.
Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at Our Lady of Solitude Church, 235 Main St., Soledad.

Helen Ricky
King City
Helen Ricky, 83, of King City, died of natural causes Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Touch of Grace in Greenfield.
She was born
in Stewart, Okla., moved to California in 1925 and lived in the Watsonville-Salinas area until 1985 when she moved to King City. She was a licensed vocational nurse at Natividad Medical Center. She worked for many years in the lettuce sheds in Salinas before working at Natividad in Salinas for 18 years and retiring due to health conditions. She was preceded in death by her husband, Verne Ricky, in 1982, sisters, Edith Goldman, in 1966, and Peggy Dedrickson, in 2000, and brother, Charles L. Maybray Jr., in 1991.
Memberships: LDS Church in Salinas for many years where she gave many hours of her time and talent to the congregation.
Survivors: Son, Ralph L. Price of King City; sister, Jennie DeLair of Salinas; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services: No services planned at this time.

Tom Earle Rumley
GREENFIELD
Tom Earle Rumley, 70, of Greenfield, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at his home.
He was born
in Rogers, Ark., and lived in Greenfield. He was a retired truck driver with Fogler Brothers Trucking. He was appointed in 1995 by the Monterey County Board of Supervisors to the Memorial District Board. He is preceded in death by his brother, William Rumley.
Military service: U.S. Army.

Survivors: Son, Roger Rumley; daughter, Renee Soria; and sisters, Nancy Fukuda of Indio and Mary Ann Hart of Livingston, Texas.

Maria Luisa Quiroz-Sandoval, 81, of Gonzales, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born
in Agualulco de Mercado, Jalisco, Mexico, and lived in Gonzales for 15 years. She was a homemaker.
Survivors: Son, Alejandro Sandoval of Gonzales; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, and 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.
