Roy K. Kimura, 86, of Salinas, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at SunRidge Rehabilitation Care following a brief illness.
He was born icon in San Fernando and had lived in Salinas for 60 years. He was a retired self-employed gardener.

Memberships: Lincoln Ave. Presbyterian Church, Salinas; Anglers Club; Monterey Kayo Club.

Survivors: Wife of 56 years, Aiko Kimura of Salinas; sons, Jared Ikeda of Salinas and Lenn Kimura of Mission Viejo.

Services: Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Lincoln Ave. Presbyterian Church.

Cremation: Was held.

Memorials: Lincoln Ave. Presbyterian Church, 536 Lincoln Ave., Salinas 93901.

Arrangements: Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Paul P. Martinez

Paul P. Martinez, 35, of San Jose, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at O'Conner Hospital in San Jose following a lengthy illness.
He was born icon in Salinas and had been a resident of San Jose for nine years. He was a graduate of Alisal High School and a clerk for National Rental Cars.

Survivors: Companion, Raul Diaz of San Jose; daughter, Victoria Martinez of Salinas; mother, Gayla Dorado of Salinas; father, Paul Martinez of Salinas; grandparents, Doris and Eddie Regazzi of King City, and Grandma Martinez of Salinas; sisters, Cozette Dorado of Texas and Tiffiney Gallegos of Salinas; brothers, Shane Dorado of Greenfield and Faustino Dorado of Salinas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services: Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Burial: Will follow services.

Arrangements: Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Clara J. Tunzi

Clara J. Tunzi, 80, of Greenfield, died of natural causes Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
She was born icon in Salem, Ark., and thereafter lived in Greenfield. She was a retired inspector for Basic Vegetable and a Lifeline volunteer for senior citizens. She was a wonderful person who knew no strangers -- everybody was her friend. She was a trusting person. She believed in living life to the fullest and she loved flowers, especially roses. Many will miss her.

Her husband, Frank Tunzi, and brother, Melvin Wood, preceded her in death.

Memberships: Free Will Baptist Church, Women's Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star La Posa Chapter 282 and Alzheimer's Organization.

Survivors: Brother, Lloyd Ward of San Jose, and best friend, Gail West of Greenfield.

Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 11, at Whitehurst Grim Funeral Chapel, 429 Bassett St., King City.

Services: 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12, at the funeral chapel.

Burial: Holy Trinity Cemetery following service.

Jimmy R. Featherstone

Jimmy R. Featherstone, 44, of Salinas, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Valley Medical Center in San Jose, following a Nov. 4 ATV accident in Gonzales.
He was born icon Dec. 10, 1956, in Salsbury, N.C., and moved to California in 1998. He was a property manager for three years. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and watching drag racing. He married his wife, Christine, in 1999.

Memberships: North American Hunting Club.

Survivors: Wife, Dr. Christine Ponzio Featherstone of Salinas; daughters, Brandi Howard of Kannapolis, N.C., and Monica Norega of Salinas; mother, Doris Holshouser of Kannapolis; father, John J. Featherstone of Goldhill, N.C.; one half-brother; and grandson, Damien Howard of Kannapolis.

Services: Memorial service 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Whitehurst Muller Funeral Chapel, East Alisal and Pajaro streets, Salinas.

Cremation: Private cremation was held at Soquel Cemetery.

Placement of ashes: Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery in Kannapolis.

Memorials: North American Hunting Club, P.O. Box 8249, Mazula, Mont. 59807.

Elizabeth C. Dewey

Elizabeth C. Dewey, 92, of Gonzales, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born icon Sept. 27, 1909, in Gonzales and was a lifelong resident of Gonzales. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed bowling, oil painting, gardening, sewing and playing bingo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Dewey, in 1995, and her son, Ted Beamer, in 1990.

Memberships: St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Gonzales and Native Daughters of the Golden West.

Survivors: Daughters, Delores Migotti and Mary Ward, both of Gonzales; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Vigil: 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, at St. Theodore's Church, 116 S. Belden St., Gonzales.

Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the church.

Burial: Gonzales cemetery.

Gaudiosa P. Montillano

Gaudiosa P. Montillano, 80, of Salinas, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Natividad Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born icon Oct. 29, 1921, in General Trias, Cavite, Philippines, and lived in Salinas for 10 years. She was a homemaker.

Survivors: Daughters, Fe Jimenez, Memoracion Montillano and Nida Espino, all of the Philippines; sons, Edgardo Montillano, Orlando Montillano, Geraldo Montillano and Florencio Montillano Jr., all of the Philippines; brothers, Nomer Portugal of the Philippines and Ting Portugal of Canada; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today, Nov. 14, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Rosary: 7 p.m. today, Nov. 14, at the mortuary chapel.

Services: Final visitation 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the mortuary chapel followed by procession to Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone St., Salinas, for the funeral Mass at 10 a.m.

Burial: General Trias Cemetery, Cavite, Philippines.

Elias R. Urquidez

Elias R. Urquidez, 50, of Greenfield, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at George L. Mee Memorial Hospital in King City, following a lengthy illness.
He was born icon Sept. 21, 1951, in Carlsbad, N.M., and was a machine operator with J.M. Smuckers Inc. He enjoyed reading, basketball, working in his yard, camping and spending time with his family.

Military service: U.S. Army.

Survivors: Wife, Elena Urquidez of Greenfield; sons, Joel Urquidez, Gabriel Urquidez and Alberto Urquidez, all of Greenfield, and Samuel Urquidez of Sacramento; mother, Maria Urquidez of Greenfield; brothers, David Urquidez of Greenfield and Luis Urquidez of Stockton; sisters, Alicia Urquidez and Elisabeth Urquidez, both of Salinas, Enedina Urquidez of Stockton, Rita Romero of Ceres, Elva Urquidez of King City and Flavia Nava of Tracy.

Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at El Shaddal Church, 27 Elm Circle, Greenfield.

Evening service: 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the church.

Graveside services: 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Oak Park Cemetery, Greenfield.

Arrangements: Whitehurst Terry Funeral Service, 395 East St., Soledad.

Basilio L. 'Benny' Pangdan

Basilio L. "Benny" Pangdan, 95, of Gonzales, died of heart failure Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at his home.
He was born icon Dec. 17, 1905, in Baay, Batac, Philippines. He was a retired agriculture irrigator.

Memberships: Fil-Visayan and retired member of Salinas Local AFL-CIO.

Survivors: Son, Benny Pangdan of Marina; sisters, Trinidad Ortal of Culver City and Doning Pungtilan of the Philippines; and grandchildren, Basilio A. Pangdan, Justine A. Pangdan and Michael Pangdan.

Visitation: noon to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 14, at Monterey Peninsula Mortuary at Mission Memorial Park, 1915 Ord Grove Ave., Seaside.

Rosary: 7 p.m. today, Nov. 14, at the mortuary chapel.

Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at St. Jude's Church, 303 Hillcrest Ave., Marina.

Freddy Geovany Avila

Freddy Geovany Avila, 26, of Salinas, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Natividad Medical Center following a shooting.
He was born icon Dec. 2, 1974, in Laseba, Honduras, and lived in Salinas for three years. He was a janitor. He lived in Houston for one year before moving to Salinas.

Survivors: Mother, Alicia Mencia of Salinas; sisters, Jeanette Avila, Alicia Avila and Jenny Avila, all of Salinas; and brother, Henry M. Avila of Salinas.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today, Nov. 14, and Thursday, Nov. 15, at Seventh-day Adventist Church, 780 Holly St., Salinas.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at the church.

Cremation: Following at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Thomas Ray Robertson

Thomas Ray Robertson, 66, of Prunedale, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, in an automobile accident on U.S. 101.
He was born icon Feb. 7, 1935, in Fresno, lived in Prunedale for 30 years and was a former resident of Seaside. He owned and operated Prunedale Glass Co. He loved his family and grandchildren and his interests included golf and gardening.

Military service: U.S. Navy Korean War veteran.

Memberships: Salinas Golf and Country Club, life member American Legion Post No. 591 in Seaside and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8679 Seaside.

Survivors: Wife of 32 years, Mildred A. Robertson of Salinas; sons, Michael (Joy) Robertson of Wenatchee, Wash., and Capt. Thomas (Debra) Neemeyer of Dublin; stepson, Charles (Jayme) Williamson of Salinas; stepdaughter, Carol (Donald) Ervin of Prunedale; brother, Floyd Robertson of San Jose; uncles, Bill Lauderdale of Prunedale and Fred Lauderdale of Seaside; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: Memorial services 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Burial: Private at Mission Memorial Park, 1915 Ord Grove Ave., Seaside.

Reily Dawson

Reily Dawson, 66, of Salinas, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital following an illness.
He was born icon Sept. 28, 1935, in Fulton, Mo., and lived in Salinas and Prunedale for 26 years. He was a maintenance supervisor for the U.S. Department of Agriculture research station in Salinas. He was an avid musician, having played guitar with the Greg Morrison Band, The Tobacco Road Bands and Dakota Bands. He also played with the Salinas Rodeo Band.

Military service: U.S. Air Force.

Survivors: Wife, Elaine Dawson of Salinas; daughters, Tanya Dawson of Tucson, Ariz., Paula Andra of Sahuarita, Ariz., Stephanie Foley of Milo, Mo., and Wendy Dawson of Kansas City, Mo.; son, Reiley Dawsen of Peoria, Ariz.; mother, Mary Pickrel of Seneca; father, Orval "Jim" Dawson of Globe, Ariz.; sisters, Yvonne Beckner of Peoria, Ill., and Judy Dawson of Fulton; brothers, James S. Dawson of Seneca, S.C., and Reginald Dawson of Peoria, Ill.; one grandson; four granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today, Nov. 14, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Burial: Moore Cemetery, Nevada, Mo.

Norman Glenn Phillips

Norman Glenn Phillips, 38, of Sacramento, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001.
He was born icon June 2, 1963, in Monterey and lived in Seaside. He lived in Sacramento for seven years. His mother preceded him in death.

Survivors: Father, Marshall Phillips of San Francisco; stepmother, Marcelle Phillips of San Francisco; wife, Mary Phillips of Kerman; sons, Demetris Phillips of Kerman and Norman Phillips Jr. of Polaski, Tenn.; daughter, Renita Patterson of Nashville, Tenn.; stepsister, Khalillah Hill of San Francisco; stepbrother, Phillip Hill of San Francisco; and two grandchildren.

Visitation: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Chapel of Seaside, 1610 Noche Buena St., Seaside.

Services: Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 16, at Community Baptist Church, Monterey and Pine avenues, in Pacific Grove.
