Benjamin Orozco, Sr.

Benjamin Orozco, Sr. , 79, of Salinas, died unexpectedly of natural causes, at Natividad Medical Center, on Friday, Feb. 23, 2001.
Mr. Orozco was born icon in Zacatas, Mexico, and lived in Salinas for 53 years. He was a retired maintenance worker at Spreckels Sugar Co.

Survivors: Wife, Juana Orozco of Salinas; sons Anatacio Martinez of Eureka, Salvador R. Orozco and Benjamin Orozco of Salinas; stepson Otto Kramm of Spreckels: daughters Virginia Gonzales of Fresno, Anita Arialejo and Gloria Orozco of Sacramento, and Irene Ortiz of Salinas; stepdaughter Amelia Kramm of Salinas; brothers Manuel Orozco of Fresno Valley, David Orozco of Phoenix, Ariz., and Daniel Orozco of Los Banos; sisters Monica Orozco of Texas, Aurora Rodriguez of Arizona, Lydia Herrera of Patterson, and Margaret Whelpley and Yolanda Aldape of Salinas.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m., Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Services: Final visitation 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001. at the mortuary, followed by procession to St. Mary of the Nativity Church, for the funeral Mass beginning at 10 a.m.

Burial: Following at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas.

Frank Fedele

Frank Fedele, 62, of Salinas, died at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, after a lengthy illness.
He was born icon in San Francisco. His family was originally from the Greenfield area. He lived in Las Vegas for a short time and recently moved back to Monterey County. Mr. Fedele was a department manager for Wal-Mart.

Memberships: Past member and Grand Master for the Paso Robles Elks Lodge #2364.

Survivors: Son, Peter Fedele and daughter, Susan Martin, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Romildo Fedele of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and five grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, First Assembly of God Church, 549 El Camino Real, Greenfield.

Burial: 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Holy Trinity Cemetery, 803 Elm Avenue, Greenfield.

Jennie Napoli

Jennie Napoli, 90, of Monterey died of natural causes at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, on Friday, Feb. 23, 2001.
She was born icon in San Vito, LoCapo, Sicily, and resided in Monterey for 63 years. She came to United States in 1937 and became a citizen in the mid-'40s. Her passions included crocheting, cooking and embroidery, a skill for which she was very well-known in the Italian community. Many future brides' dowries consisted of sheets, table cloths and other items made by Jennie. She was a homemaker primarily, but also worked in the canneries during sardine harvest.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Napoli, in November 1977, and a daughter, Nina Gonzales, in 1994.

Memberships: Sons of Italy and the Women's Missionary circle of the First Baptist Church of Monterey.

Survivors: Daughters Anna Graziano and Rose DiRocco of Monterey; brother Joe Graziano of Merced; sister Rosa Billeci and Grazian Vultaggio of Monterey; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Mission Mortuary, 450 Camino El Estero, Monterey.

Services: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at the mortuary. Final services 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at First Baptist Church of Monterey, 600 Hawthorne St., Monterey.

Burial: Following at San Carlos Cemetery, 792 Fremont St., Seaside.

Remembrances: Mt. Hermon Conference Center, Mt. Hermon; First Baptist Church of Monterey, 600 Hawthorne St., Monterey.

Richard Patrick Golden

SALINAS

Richard Patrick Golden of Salinas died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was a former resident of Iowa City, Iowa, and lived in Salinas. He was an information technology manager with the Monterey County Office of Education. His interests included tournament bridge, of which he was a Gold Life Master, music, painting, photography and reading.

He was educated at the University of Iowa and graduated with a BGS and a JD from the College of Law.

Survivors: Wife, Pat Thomas of Salinas; son, John Golden of Parker, Colo.; brother, Robert Golden of Salinas; sister, Marty O'Connor of Nebraska; and one grandchild.

Services: Memorial services 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at The Bridge Center for Monterey County, 13th Street, former Fort Ord.

Memorials: Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 957 A Blanco Circle, Salinas 93901.

Barbara E. Olsen

SALINAS

Barbara E. Olsen, 93, of Salinas, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after an illness.
She was born icon in Harvey, N.D., and lived in Salinas for 71 years. She was a bookkeeper with Bob Willis Dodge in Salinas before retiring.

Memberships: Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

Survivors: Son, Edward Olsen of Fresno; sisters, Lillian Knight of Salinas and Sophie Wold of Auburn, Wash.; two granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services: Memorial services 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 580 Larkin St., Salinas.

Placement of ashes: Was at Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Memorials: Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Music Ministries, 580 Larkin St., Salinas 93907.

Carolyn J. Payne

SALINAS

Carolyn J. Payne, 69, of Salinas, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Salinas Care Center of cancer.
She was born icon in Salinas and attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from Salinas High School.

She was a school teacher before retiring and graduated from San Jose State University in 1953 with a degree in education. She completed post-graduate work at the University of Virginia.

Memberships: Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors: Sister Norma Jean (Frank) Branch of Salinas; niece Denise Steffes of Fairbanks, Alaska; nephews, Frank Branch of North Carolina, David Branch of El Segundo, and Maj. Jonathan Branch of Seattle; seven grandnephews; and three grandnieces.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 at Struve and Laporte Mortuary Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Vigil: 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 in the mortuary chapel.

Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Burial: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Ramona G. Rosas

SALINAS

Ramona G. Rosas, 75, of Salinas, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born icon in Comala, Colima, Mexico, and lived in Salinas since 1965. She was a produce worker.

Memberships: St. Mary of the Nativity Church.

Survivors: Son, Jesus Rosas of San Diego; sister, Teresa Rosas of Salinas; and nephew, Raul Castillo of Salinas.

Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Oct. 30, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Vigil: 7 p.m. today, Oct. 30, at the mortuary chapel.

Mass: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1702 Second Ave., Salinas.

Burial: Following at Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Charles 'Charlie' Moore

Charles "Charlie" Moore, 74, of Castroville, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born icon in Lewisburg, Tenn., and lived in Castroville for 64 years. He worked formerly with Merritt Packing.

Military service: Navy during World War II.

Memberships: Teamsters Union Local No. 890.

Survivors: Wife, Lorean Moore of Castroville; daughter, Carol Blagg of Castroville; son, Dan Moore of Morgan Hill; brother, Samuel Puckett of Mansfield, Texas; sister, Ruth Ann Mosley of Auburn, Wash.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. today, Nov. 2, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Services: Graveside services 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Castroville cemetery, Moss Landing.

Josefa L. Rodriguez

Josefa L. Rodriguez, 86, of Castroville, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at her residence.
She was born icon in Guadalajara, Mexico, and lived in Castroville. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Salvador, in 1986.

Memberships: Our Lady of Refuge Parish

Survivors: Sons, Carlos Rodriguez and Vicente Rodriguez, both of Castroville, and Francisco Rodriguez of Salinas; and daughters, Ines Avelar and Maria de Jesus Rodriguez, both of Castroville, and Maria Luz Hernandez and Rosalia Fernandez, both of Calexico, Mexico.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Whitehurst Muller, East Alisal and Pajaro streets, Salinas.

Rosary: 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Our Lady of Refuge Church, 1140 Preston St., in Castroville.

Mass: Noon Monday, Nov. 5, at Our Lady of Refuge Church.

Burial: Castroville cemetery, Moss Landing.

Don L. Gill

Don L. Gill, 74, of Salinas, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born icon in Washington, D.C., and lived on the Monterey Peninsula for 23 years. He was a pipe fitter for Fort Ord. He had many interests; his greatest was his love of jazz. He and his wife traveled to jazz festivals, often following local groups. He was an avid golfer and played in many local tournaments. He built an addition to his home to display an extensive golf memorabilia collection.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dana Gill, and son, Rico DeCesari.

Military service: U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He enjoyed attending many ship reunions.

Memberships: Longtime member of Monterey Elks, Moose Lodge and American Legion Post No. 598 of Salinas.

Survivors: Wife of 21 years, Marge Gill of Salinas; daughters, Denise Gill of Damascus, Md., Robin Gill of Gaithersburg, Md., and Roseanne Cole of Tucson, Ariz.; sons, Don Gill Jr. of Boonsboro, Md., Mark DeCesari of Tucson, Ariz., and Dino DeCesari of Escondido; sister, Shirley Forster of Navarre, Fla.; brother, Robert Gill of Pensacola, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services: No services planned.

Cremation: Healey Crematory Co., 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.
