Richard S. 'Jack' Jackson, Jr.
1921-2004

A memorial service was held on Monday, Nov. 15 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bend, Ore. for former Bishop resident Richard S. "Jack" Jackson, Jr.

Born April 16, 1921 in Memphis, Tenn. to Richard and Eva (McConnell) Jackson, Jack died of lung cancer on Nov. 10, 2004 in Bend. He was 83.

Jack served in the Navy during World War II. He married Irene Rankin on July 13, 1963 in Las Vegas. For many years, Jack worked in the automobile industry as a service manager for Ford and Chrysler dealerships. He retired in 1990.

Jack was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church, the Lions Club, VFW, American Legion and the Elks. He enjoyed fishing, woodwork and volunteer work.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Jack is survived by his wife, Irene; sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Patricia  Jackson of Bishop and Jeff and Annmarie Bundy of Naperville, Ill.; sister, Gloria Henderson of  Texas; and his grandchildren, Vincent Brennan and Michelle  Jackson of Bishop and Aaron and Gabe Bundy of Naperville.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Jackson's name may be made to a Presbyterian church of one's choosing or the Hospice of Bend - La Pine, 2075 NE Wyatt Court, Bend, OR 97701.

Marguerite Norman
1912-2004

A Mass of the Resurrection will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bishop for Marguerite Norman of Lancaster. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., and the mass will be followed by interment at the East Line Street Cemetery.

Born on Oct. 16, 1912, Marguerite died Nov. 17, 2004. She was 92.

Marguerite is survived by her four sons, Paul Anderson of Lancaster, Herbert Galvin of Bishop, Stanley Galvin of Tonopah, Nev. and Johnny Galvin of Fallon, Nev.; one daughter, Margaret Hutchison of Parker, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and four sisters.

Julie Ann Tull
1967-2004

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, Nov. 26 at a private residence in Carpinteria for Julie Ann Tull. An additional celebration will be held in Virginia at a later date.

Born in Santa Barbara on May, 26, 1967 to Richard and Julie Tull, Julie died on Nov. 14, 2004 at Southern Inyo Hospital in Lone Pine.

She spent her childhood in Santa Barbara and moved to Virginia after high school. Virginia and nearby  Washington, D.C. area allowed her to pursue her love of American history. She spent many wonderful years working at the Chart House Restaurant in Alexandria, Va., where her co-workers became her extended family. She loved spending time with her son, Sean. She also loved music and sharing good times with friends and family.

Julie is survived by her son, Sean; mother, Julie; brothers, Richard, Glenn, Robert and Mark; sisters-in-law, Janice, Martha and Katie; niece, Tracy; nephew, William; and numerous other friends and family members.

Donations in memory of Julie may be made to the Southern Inyo Hospital Donation Account.

Juanita 'Jenny' B. Willis
1921-2004

A memorial service will be held at the Big Pine Tribal Gymnasium, 1015 S. Richard St., Big Pine on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. for Juanita "Jenny" B. Willis.

Born on June 24, 1921 in Oatman, Ariz., Jenny died on Nov. 13, 2004 in Bishop.

She moved from Henderson, Nev. to Bishop with her husband Carl and family of 12 children in 1964. They lived in Round Valley, Laws and Big Pine, then moved back to Bishop.

At age 13 Juanita attended Sherman Institute of Riverside. She was a homemaker, raising 12 children. She worked at Bishop Laundry, Simpson Retirement Home and Big Pine Sanitarium. She opened Amigo's restaurant in Canyonville, Ore. which she had for 12 years before returning to Bishop and working for the Sierra Country Club, where she retired in 1991.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carson Crandall Willis; stepson, Carson Eugene Willis; daughter, Claudina Corder; sister, Francis Smith; and brother, Martin Chavez.

Juanita is survived by her brother, David Chavez of Sacramento; sister, Manuella "Dolly" Diaz of Maryland; children and their spouses; Terri and Rusty Hodges of Victorville, Martin and Diane Willis of Gardnerville, Nev., Juanita and Glenn Arndal of Bishop, Carl and Patty Willis of Big Pine, Jim and Vicki Willis of Salem, Ore., Linda Tyne of Tupelo, Miss., Toni Willis of Bishop, Marian and Greg  Jones of Bishop, Chris and Carla Willis of Rogers, Ark., Fred Willis of Bishop and Dorothy and Emilio Collado of Bishop; grandchildren; Jeff, Alex, Geanine and Mitchell Willis, Richard Watts, Alisha McMurtrie, James Stanley, Chad Hodges, Troy Willis, Austin Willis, Nita Eddy, Dave Arndal, Fawn Pitt, Sage Hunt, Morningstar Wagoner, J.R. Willis, Jesse Willis, Seneca Willis, Maya Tindall, Tejo Willis, Calen Willis, Eric Willis, Ronica Kester, Stacey Patton, Elton Saunders, Veronica, Andon and Joaquin Ficker, Sierra and Craft Jones, Molly Willis, Willis and Richard Dondero, Mark Willis and Reina Flores; great-grandchildren, Summer Willis, Nicole Willis, Cory Willis, Matt, Jeff and Katie Watts, Maresa and Michael Hayes, Montana Stanley, Kayla and Tanner Willis, Wayde Eddy, Aden Arndal, Amanda and Tarryn Pitt, Wyatt Wagoner, Syenna Tindall, Carson Willis, Cassandra, Colton and Amity Willis, Matt and Nicholas Kester, Noel and Justine Patton, Josef and Veronica Saunders and Feather McKellips; and great-great-grandson, Drew Christopher Kester.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Pioneer Home Health Care, at 162 E. Line St., Bishop, CA 93514; the Hospice of the Owens Valley, at 155 Pioneer Ln., Bishop, CA 93514; the City of Hope National Medical Center, at 1500 East Duarte Rd., Duarte CA 91010; or any other charity.

Geraldine L. Clark
1936-2004

No funeral services have been announced for Geraldine L. Clark.

Born in Sacramento on March 21, 1936, Geri died on Nov. 5, 2004 at Summit Medical center in Tennessee. She was 68.

She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Geri is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Randy Piper of Independence; and two grandchildren, David Winter and Christopher Jeffery.

Mary Louella Curtis
1926-2004

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 11 at the Big Pine Baptist Church for 17-year Big Pine resident Mary Louella Curtis. Pastor Cliff Howery and Pastor Tim Topass will officiate the service. A potluck will follow.

Born in Oxnard on March 21, 1926, Mary died on Nov. 14, 2004 at her home. She was 78.

Mary was very involved with her family and provided countless hours of interpreting for the deaf. She received several awards from the Lions Club and the Girl Scouts of America. She was also very involved with her church and taught sign language classes until her health made it difficult. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, James Curtis of Big Pine; son and daughter-in-law, Jim Jr. and Linda of Big Pine; son, Ken Curtis of Big Pine; four grandchildren and their spouses, Stephanie and Richard of Big Pine, Kenny and Penelope of San Jose, Chris of Big Pine and Melissa and Ken of Wilkerson; and seven great-grandchildren.

Jessie Marie 'Jay' Ervin
1917-2004

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 at the West Line Street Cemetery in Bishop for former Bishop resident Jessie Marie "Jay" Ervin. Barbara Crockett, Lay Minister of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate the service.

Born on Jan. 26, 1917 in Wiggins, Miss. to Louis "Alec" and Elma Jacobs, Jay died on Nov. 15, 2004 at the Bishop Care Center.

She married Joe Medd Gaddis in Carson City, Nev. in 1938. They had two children, Jody Davis and Danny Gaddis. Joe and Jay owned Gaddis Café in Kingman, Ariz. until 1944, then they moved to Phoenix, Ariz. where they owned and operated the Sundown Club until 1945. Jay and her family then moved to Bishop where they owned and operated the Travelodge Café, then the Sportsman Café until Joe died in 1960. Jay then married Jim Ervin in 1961 and they continued to run the Sportsman until 1968.

Jay was active for many years in the Bishop Lady Bills and Bishop Golf Club. She loved to dance, play bingo, travel and spend time with her family and friends.

Jay was one of five children. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Joe and Jim; three brothers; her sister and best friend, Fay Thompson; and her first grandson, Joseph Davis.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Mac Davis; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Norma Gaddis; four grandchildren, Rykki (Davis) Swenson, John Davis, Daniel "James" Gaddis and Julie (Gaddis) Hilton; eight great-grandchildren; her niece, Cheri; and grandniece, Angie.
