He was born
in Morgan Hill.

Lois Webb
SALINAS
Lois Webb, 74, of Salinas, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at her son's home following a lengthy illness.
She was born
April 7, 1927, in Booths Point, Tenn., and lived in Salinas for one and a half years. She was a homemaker. She lived in Covington, Tenn., until August 2000 when she moved to be with her son and family in Salinas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Webb, in 1980.
Survivors: Son, Gordon Glen (Gabriele) Winn of Salinas; grandchildren, Patrick Winn of Reno, Nev., and Alexander Winn and Susi Diallo, both of Salinas; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home in Covington, Tenn.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the funeral home.
Burial: Arlington City Cemetery, Arlington, Tenn.

Grace J. Strohn
Grace J. Strohn, 84, of San Ardo, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Mee Memorial Hospital in King City of natural causes.
She was born
in Shenandoah, W.Va., on Feb. 23, 1917, and lived in San Ardo for 64 years. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking, and caring for her family. Her husband, Paul Strohn, and her brothers, Robert Jones and Raymond Clayton, preceded her in death.
Survivors: Sons, Howard Strohn of Big Sur and David Strohn of King City; daughter, Faye Snyder of West Virginia; brother, John Jones of Challis, Idaho; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services: None are scheduled.

Alfred J. Molinari
Alfred J. Molinari, 76, of Daly City, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, in his home.
He was born
in San Francisco and lived in Daly City. He was preceded in death by Joseph A. Molinari and Victor Molinari of Salinas.
Military Service: U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
Memberships: Elks Club, South San Francisco Lodge No. 2091, Native Sons of the Golden West, Guadalupe Parlor No. 231.
Survivors: Wife, Helen Molinari; daughter, Elaine Molinari; cousins, Mary Lou Wangberg, John Molinari and David Molinari of Salinas; three granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Christopher Paul Brewster
Christopher Paul Brewster, 55, of Salinas, died Nov. 16, 2001, at his home of natural causes.
He was born
in San Francisco on June 11, 1946. He was a gardener for New Haven Unified School District. He was an avid reader and trivia buff. He enjoyed baseball and football and watching cartoons with his daughter Evelyn. He received his bachelor of arts degree in English from California State University, Hayward. He graduated from Capuchino High School in 1964. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors: Wife, Carol Ritter Brewster of Salinas; daughter, Evelyn Brewster of Salinas; son, Michael Brewster of Washington; brother, Tony Gordon of Twaine Hart; sister, Cheryl Chalfant of Washington; aunt, Marie "Bonnie" Howarth of Sonoma.
Services: Will take place at a later date.
Disposition: Cremation.

Karen Mushkin
Karen Mushkin, 49, of Salinas, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at the Hospice House of Monterey after a long illness.
Born in Detroit on June 11, 1952, she came to Salinas in 1978 and worked in the operating room at Alisal Hospital until 1985. She was a graduate of St. Francis College of Nursing in Pittsburgh, Pa. From 1985 to 1994, she worked for plastic surgeons Strickland and Bartels in Monterey and later for doctors Kellogg and Romons in Salinas from 1994 to 1999.
She was an avid quilter and member of the Pacific Grove Quilter's Guild and Salinas Adult School quilters' group. She was interested in many crafts, including cross stitch, knitting and sewing. She also was interested in boating and water skiing. She loved animals.
Survivors: Husband, Dr. Leonard Mushkin of Salinas; sons, Jeff Muskin of Redding and Larry Mushkin of Phoenix; parents Martha and Joseph Meyer of Salinas; brothers Robert Meyer of Fortuna and Joe Meyer of Chatsworth.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1071 Pajaro St., Salinas. Cremation was held.

Marion H. Adams
Marion H. Adams, 83, of Santa Cruz, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose following an illness.
He was born
Sept. 10, 1918, in Ironton, Ohio, lived in Salinas for 22 years before retiring to Santa Cruz in 1984. He was a retired purchasing agent with the city of Salinas for 18 years. In 1956, he and his wife, Vera Adams, were instrumental in helping with the start up of Friendship Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Kaiserslautern, West Germany.
His wife preceded him in death in 1986.
Military service: Served in U.S. Army for 22 years as chief warrant officer and awarded five Bronze Stars, two Silver Stars, a Purple Heart, American Campaign Medal, Asia Pacific Victory Medal, Occupation Medal (Japan), honorable discharge button, two Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, 2 U.S. Korean Service Medals, Korean Presidential Citation, Sharp Shooters Medal, U.S. Army Rank (MSG), U.S. Army Rank (W03), Combat Infantry Badge, Combat Medical Badge, U.S. Army Retired Badge.
Memberships: Santa Cruz Lodge No. 38 Free and Accepted Mason, Scottish Rites Bodies of San Jose, Islam Temple of San Francisco, El Gabilan Chapter No. 574 of Salinas (where he was past matron), The Order of the Amaranth No. 152 of Salinas, Paradise Park Masonic Club of Santa Cruz and San Lorenzo Valley Court No. 99 of Santa Cruz.

Raul A. Ampon
Raul A. Ampon, 55, of Salinas, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born
Jan. 13, 1946, in the Philippines, and lived in Salinas for 15 years. He was a supervisor with the city of Salinas Public Works Department.

Survivors: Wife, Myrna Ampon of Salinas; son, Erick Ampon of Salinas; daughter, Maricel Ampon of Salinas; brother, Jose Ampon of Salinas; sister, Ever Raneses of Salinas; and granddaughter, Kianna Cautiverio of Salinas.

Carole S. Hayes
Carole S. Hayes of Sonora died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at her daughter's home in Watsonville following a lengthy illness.
She was born
in Fairbanks, Alaska, moved to Watsonville in 1964 and to Sonora in 1998. She was a lifelong nurse and graduated from nursing school at San Jose State college in 1959. She began her career at Monterey Community Hospital and worked for Watsonville Community Hospital for 35 years, working in coronary care, intensive care and was head nurse in acute care before moving to the hospital's Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program. Another passion was travel. Among her favorite trips was a cruise to Alaska where she retraced her early life in Alaska and attempted to find her family's homestead in Fairbanks.
She was preceded in death by her stepson, Don Hayes.
Survivors: Husband, Howard Hayes of Sonora; daughters, Elaine (Pete) Legorreta and Barbara Yoakum; stepchildren, Margaret Starks, Jim Hayes, Janice Hayes and Donna Panighetti; and 11 grandchildren.
Visitation: 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Mehl's Colonial Chapel, 222 East Lake St., Watsonville.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at the mortuary chapel.

Johnny V. Malone Jr.
Johnny V. Malone Jr., 55, of Salinas, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland following a lengthy illness.
He was born
Dec. 1, 1946, in Eufaula, Ala., and lived in Salinas for 22 years.
Military service: Retired U.S. Army following 22 years of service and veteran of Vietnam War.
Survivors: Wife, Marlene Malone of Salinas; daughter, Angela Malone of Salinas; and son, Michael Malone of Salinas.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas. Full military honors will follow at Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

G.E. Mill
G.E. Mill, 91, of Monterey, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Menlo Park.
He was born
in Redruth, Cornwall, England, and moved to Butte, Mont., in 1916.
His six siblings, including Thomas H. Mill and Mavis Schwefel of Salinas, preceded him in death. Following the Korean War, he was given great recognition for having built the Powha Orphanage for 100 children on Pochon, Korea. Following his discharge in 1963, he and his wife lived and played golf in Marin County, Rancho Bernardo and spent the past six years at the Classic Residents in Monterey, where they have many friends.
Military service: Career Army, enlisting in the Army O.C.S. in October of 1942. He was an infantry officer. He took part in the invasion of Europe, liberation of Paris and the Battle of the Bulge. He also served in Korea and received a Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters.
Survivors: Wife, Myrna Mill of Monterey; and 14 nieces and nephews, of which Arlene Bertlesman, Jimmy Schwefel and Tommy Mill are local.
Services: No services planned.
Placement of ashes: Following cremation, ashes will be spread over the San Francisco Bay.
Memorials: Donor's favorite charity.
