SALINAS

Joseph G. Arredondo, 94, of Salinas, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Monterey Pines Skilled Nursing Facility following a brief illness.
He was born icon in Del Rio, Texas, and lived in Salinas and Spreckels for 66 years. He was retired from Spreckels Sugar Co. He enjoyed playing cards and was known around town as "Spreckels Joe." He was a champion bowler.

Survivors: Daughter, Carol Wolovsky of Carmel; son, Jim Arredondo of Carmel; grandchildren Sarah Wolovsky of Fresno, Aaron Wolovsky, Carrie Arredondo and Chad Arredondo, all of Carmel; and Christie Valdetierra of Salinas.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Burial: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Donald Lee 'Dago' Prola

MYRTLE POINT, ORE.

Donald Lee "Dago" Prola, 72, of Myrtle Point, Ore., died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Myrtle Point.
He was born icon Aug. 2, 1929, in Silver City, Idaho, and had lived in Asti and in Salinas before moving to Myrtle Point in 1991. While in Salinas, he worked for Clarence Freeze for 13 years. After his retirement, he hauled scrap metal for a few years. He operated The Hole in the Wall antique shop in Moss Landing for three years. He also worked for Tynan Lumber. He enjoyed going to garage sales and loved animals and his pets.

Memberships: Carpenter's Union No. 925 in Salinas.

Survivors: Wife, Carolyn Prola of Myrtle Point, Ore.; half-brother, Robert Simonsen of Clarkdale, Ariz.; stepdaughters, Victoria Gasacca and Laura Brown, both of Salinas, and Gail Krauter of Fresno; stepson, Stephen Camacho of Salinas; cousins, Gloria Brooks, Richard Guidotti, Clarence Guidotti and Joseph Guidotti, all of Salinas; and five stepgrandchildren.

Services: No services will be held at his request.

Inurnment: Private inurnment will be in the Prola family plot at Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Memorials: South Coast Hospice, 1620 Thompson Road, Coos Bay, Ore. 97420 or Myrtle Point Food Bank, 1994 Roseburg Road, Myrtle Point 97458 for food; Myrtle Point Food Bank, P.O. Box 123 Myrtle Point 97458 for nonfood.

Carlos Torres Jr.

SALINAS

Carlos Torres Jr., 44, of Salinas, died unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at his home.
He was born icon April 15, 1957, in Salinas and was a lifelong resident. He was self-employed as an automobile mechanic.

Survivors: Wife, Susan Torres of Salinas; daughter, Vanessa Torres of Salinas; sons, Nicholas Torres of Ohio and Gabriel Torres of Salinas; stepdaughters, Theresa Garcia, Susan Mendoza and Patricia Salcido, all of Salinas; mother, Jovita Shaff of Oregon; sisters, Yvonne (Guadalupe) Urzua of Salinas and Clara Torres Gutierrez of San Jose; brother, David Torres of Oregon; one granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Rosary: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the mortuary.

Services: Final visitation 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the mortuary chapel followed by procession to St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1702 Second Ave., Salinas for the funeral Mass at 2 p.m.

Burial: Following at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas.

Victor Manuel Martinez

Victor Manuel Martinez, 37, of Soledad, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, in Gonzales following a stabbing.
He was born icon in Uriangato, Guanajuato, Mexico, and lived in Soledad. He was a laborer.

Survivors: wife, Martha Martinez of Soledad; son, Victor Manuel Martinez of Soledad; daughter, Ana Bertha Martinez of Soledad; mother, Lidia Martinez of Soledad; brothers, Alberto Pizano and Rafael Pizano, both of Soledad; sisters, Veronica Pizano and Claudia Pizano, both of Soledad; and his grandparents, Rafael Martinez and Maria Guadalupe Martinez, both of Soledad.

Visitation: 1 p.m. today, July 9, at Whitehurst Terry Funeral Chapel, 395 East St., Soledad.

Rosary: 7 p.m. today, July 9, at the mortuary chapel.

Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Our Lady of Solitude Church, 235 Main St., Soledad.

Annie C. Castillo

Annie C. Castillo, 71, of Soledad, died of natural causes Friday, July 6, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
She was born icon in Del Monte and lived in the area since 1943, moving to this area to work. She was a clerk with Soledad Bakery. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Solitude Catholic Church in Soledad.

Survivors: Husband, Dionicio Castillo of Soledad; sons, Michael D. Castillo of Soledad, and Victor J. Castillo and Edward Castillo, both of Salinas; daughters, Victoria D. Quitevis of Gonzales and Virginia C. Sibaja of Soledad; sisters, Angie Retana and Mary Longoria, both of Soledad; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation: From 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Whitehurst Terry Funeral Chapel, 395 East St., Soledad.

Rosary: 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at the mortuary chapel.

Mass: 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Our Lady of Solitude Church, 235 Main St., Soledad.

Burial: Following at Soledad district cemetery.

Gary D. Poole

Gary D. Poole, 45, of Salinas, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born icon in Blythe and lived in Salinas for 40 years. He was a diesel repair mechanic. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Pauline Poole; and brothers, Jacky and Tommy Poole.

Survivors: fiancée, Stella Crecedo; children he helped raise, LeAnna Buck, Brian Maltman, Scott Maltman, Stacy Maltman, Dawn Robles, Gloria Torres, Eugene Crecedo and Tina Nieto; brothers, Phillip E. Poole, Jimmy A. Poole and Larry D. Poole; sisters, Betty K. Ecker, Linda R. Castelberry, Marlene A. Miner, Charlene S. Reynolds and Carry D. Begay; and numerous grandchildren.

Services: Family services will be at Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Placement of ashes: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Cremation arrangements: Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Garry J. Anloff Jr.

Garry J. Anloff Jr., 92, of Carmel, died of natural causes Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Beverly Care center.
He was born icon in Berkeley and lived in Monterey County for 47 years. He graduated from Hollywood High School and the University of California, Los Angeles, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He obtained a teaching credential after his retirement from military service and taught in the Carmel school system for several years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine, in 1975.

Military service: Army lieutenant colonel, retired after 30 years of service. After four years in UCLA ROTC, he joined the Army Reserve. He was director of CCC Camp, later stationed at Fort Ord and the Philippines, where he served as adjutant at Fort Statzenberg. He was captured and a POW for 42 months. He was one of a few survivors of the sinking of the Oryoko Maru.

Memberships: Founder of the Medsearch program for American ex-prisoners of war and a life member of the Reserve Officers Association, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Lion's Blind Foundation.

Survivors: Wife, Patricia Anloff of Carmel; daughter, Patrician Anloff Sanders of Palo Alto; son, Garry Anloff of Carmel; stepchildren, Penelope Ellsworth and Patric Ellsworth; and four grandchildren.

Services: Memorial services at a later date.

Cremation: Soquel Crematory.

Memorials: Hospice of the Central Coast, P.O. Box 1780, Monterey 93942 or Alzheimer's Association.

Arrangements: Mission Mortuary, 450 Camino El Estero, Monterey.

Vera R. Quinn

Vera R. Quinn, 67, of Seaside, died of natural causes Monday, June 4, 2001, at her home.
She was born icon in Munich, Germany, and lived in Monterey County for 33 years. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel J. Quinn Sr., in November 1989.

Survivors: Son, Daniel J. Quinn Jr. of New York; daughter, Nadia Aramkul of Seaside; sister, Sonjia Mees of Germany; and four grandchildren.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 11, at Mission Mortuary, 450 Camino El Estero, Monterey.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the mortuary chapel.

Entombment: Following at San Carlos Cemetery, Monterey.

Memorials: Hospice Foundation of the Central Coast, P.O. Box 1780, Monterey 93942.

John Rendon

John Rendon, 89, of Salinas, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
He was a native of Florence, Colo., and lived in Salinas for 56 years. He was a supply clerk for the U.S. government in Civil Service for 22 years and was an apartment manager in Salinas for 19 years. He was a musician, mainly playing the drums. Country and Christian were his favorite types of music. He was a completely dedicated family man, married for 60 years. He was preceded in death by his two grandsons and one great granddaughter.

Military Service: Colorado National Guard.

Memberships: Valley Baptist Church in Salinas.

Survivors: wife Marian Rendon of the family home; daughters, Alberta Allen, Alice Fernandez, Cathy Pathkiller and Eva Santos, all of Salinas; son, John Rendon of Riverside; sister, Ruth Blazon of Spokane, Wash.; brothers, Bill Rendon of Denver and Reggie Rendon of Olympia, Wash.; 23 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: From 1 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, July 30; 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, July 31 at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Services: Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 31 at Valley Baptist Church, 61 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Burial: Following at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Blaine Freel

Blaine Freel, 80, of Salinas, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born icon in Casper, Wyo., and lived in Salinas for 45 years. He was the retired owner of Blaine Shoe Repair. Prior to owning the business he worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for 16 years. In high school in Junction City, Ore., he captained a five-man basketball team to the state championships. In addition to enjoying all sports, he was an avid golfer. He enjoyed being with his friends and his church family.

Military service: U.S. Navy.

Memberships: Salinas Elk's Lodge No. 614 for 47 years, Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sons in Retirement and Salinas Fairways.

Survivors: Wife of 56 years, Frances Freel of Salinas; daughters, Trudy Dale Finney and Robin (Michael) Bolin, both of Salinas; brothers, Robert Freel of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Kenneth Freel of Casper, Wyo.; sisters, Evelyn Dumon of Vancouver, Wash., Eva Mills and Helma Hunter, both of Klamath Falls, and Leola Schadler of Fresno; grandchildren, Megan Finney and Rebecca Bolin, both of Salinas; and six godchildren.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 1230 Luther Way, Salinas.

Cremation: Following at the mortuary.

George B. Danenhour

George B. Danenhour, 82, of Marina, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
He was born icon in Springfield, Mo., and lived on the Monterey Peninsula since 1962. He was a retired government employee.

Military service: While attending the University of Missouri in Springfield, he enlisted in the Army-Aircorps. After serving four years he was transferred to the Army Intelligence School in Baltimore. He served in World War II and the Korean War. He graduated from the Army Language School, now known as the Defense Language Institute, in Monterey. He retired as an Army major.

Survivors: Wife, Doris Danenhour of Marina; sons, George Danenhour and Donald Danenhour, both of the Monterey Peninsula; daughter, Diana Riley of Salinas; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Visitation: Private family visitation 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at Mission
