Esequiel A. Rosales

Esequiel A. Rosales, 85, of Salinas, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after an illness.
He was born icon in Yorktown, Texas, and lived in Salinas for 43 years. He owned his own catering services for 30 years. He was the only caterer who served food to the marchers who walked with Cesar Chavez on his historic march from San Ardo to Salinas. Before catering, he worked as a laborer with Laborers Union No. 297 of Salinas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Rosales, in 1990, and many brothers and sisters.

Memberships: St. Mary of the Nativity Church.

Survivors: Daughters, Olivia Mesa of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Maria Elena Rosales of Salinas; son, Aaron Rosales of Salinas; sister, Maria "Chuca" Rosales of Corpus Christi; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, and Thursday, Sept. 20, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Rosary: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the mortuary chapel.

Services: Final visitation 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the mortuary chapel, followed by procession to St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1702 Second Ave., Salinas, for the funeral Mass at 2 p.m.

Burial: Following at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas.

Vernon Lee Blakely

Vernon Lee Blakely, 66, of Salinas, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at his home after an illness.
He was born icon in Rogersville, Tenn., and lived in Salinas for 40 years. He was an electrician with KSBW-TV.

Memberships: life member of Moose Lodge No. 1165 of Salinas and American Legion Post 589 of Salinas.

Survivors: Sons, Danny Lynn Blakely of Knottsville, Tenn., and Marvin K. Blakely of Salinas; sisters, Mae Sensabaugh of Rogersville, Tenn., and Annette Galyon of Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Melvin Blakely of Ringgold, Ga.; and one grandson.

Services: Family services at a later date.

Cremation: Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Patricia Ana Zamora

Patricia Ana Zamora, 71, of Salinas, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at her home.
She was born icon in El Paso, Texas, and lived in Salinas for 32 years. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her son, Ismael Zamora Jr.

Survivors: Husband, Ismael Zamora Sr. of Salinas; daughters, Patricia Sanchez of Salinas and Rosario Zourelli of Costa Mesa; and five nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Joint visitation with son from 1 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Rosary: Joint rosary with son at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the mortuary chapel.

Chapel blessing: Joint blessing with son at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the mortuary chapel.

Cremation: Following services.

Placement of ashes: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Duane Buckley Burnell

Duane Buckley Burnell, 49, of Pacific Grove, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a lengthy heart-related illness.
He was born icon in Skowhegan, Maine, and lived in Monterey County for 25 years, most of this time in Carmel and moving to Pacific Grove in April. He was chief executive officer of Gateway Center of Monterey County for 25 years and CEO from 1994 to 2001. He studied pre-med at Arkansas State University and graduated from the University of San Francisco in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in management.

He loved spending time at the park with his daughters, hiking, fishing and sports. He spent summers at Embden Pond, Maine, at the family vacation cabin his father built. He received a Service Above Self award from San Andreas Regional Center in October 2000, outstanding community service and support for 25 years of service to the developmentally disabled. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Rachel.

Memberships: Past president Monterey Lighthouse Lions Club, 1999-2000, and charter member; Area Board VII, ex-officio member; Strategic Planning Committee, San Andreas Regional Center; and volunteer instructor with Monterey County American Red Cross.

Survivors: Wife, Susan Burnell of Pacific Grove; daughters, Abigail Rose Burnell of Pacific Grove and Allyson Whitney Burnell of Carmel; son, Colby Duane Burnell of Pacific Grove; brother, David Williams Burnell of Connecticut; and sister, Leslie Jackson of Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

Celebration of life: 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Burnell home, 1038 Bayview Ave., Pacific Grove.

Memorials: in lieu of flowers, The Burnell Children's Trust Account, P.O. Box 2502, Monterey 93942-2502.

Ismael R. Zamora Jr.

Ismael R. Zamora Jr., 32, of Salinas, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at his home.
He was born icon in El Paso, Texas, and was a lifelong resident of Salinas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia A. Zamora.

Survivors: Father, Ismael Zamora Sr. of Salinas; sisters, Patricia Sanchez of Salinas and Rosario Zourelli of Costa Mesa; and five nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Joint visitation with mother from 1 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Jesse Miranda

Jesse Miranda, 32, of Salinas, died of injuries he sustained in an automobile accident Sunday, April 8, 2001, in Salinas.
He was born icon in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico, and lived in Salinas for 20 years. He was a dispatcher with Nu-Star Co. He was a 1987 graduate of Alisal High School.

Survivors: Son, Adrian Miranda of Salinas; parents, Jesus and Amalia Miranda of Salinas; sisters, Olga Miranda of Salinas and Sylvia Miranda of Oakland; brother, Anthony Miranda of Salinas; maternal grandmother, Maria Garcia of Salinas; and one niece and one nephew.

Visitation: 3 to 9 p.m. today, April 10, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Rosary: 7 p.m. today, April 10, at the mortuary chapel.

Edman E. 'Eddie' Payne

Edman E. "Eddie" Payne, 80, of Salinas, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Pacific Coast Care Center in Salinas after a lengthy illness.
He was born icon in Success, Ark., and lived in Salinas for 59 years. He was a retired foreman with Associated Chemicals.

Memberships: Bethel Southern Baptist Church, Reveille Chapter No. 47 Order of the Eastern Star of Salinas, Salinas Masonic Lodge No. 204 Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Bodies of San Jose and a 32nd degree Mason.

Survivors: Wife, Lena M. Payne of Salinas; daughters, Wilma Jean Ginn of Lodi, Joyce Harrison of Salinas and Patricia Shepherd of Lebenon, Ore.; sons, Robert Harrison of Salinas, Denver J. Payne of Castro Valley, Louie Ray Payne of Hollister and Dale Payne of Elkton, Ore.; sister, Augusta Lee Murray of Doniphan, Mo.; brother, Henry Payne of Hillsboro, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mildred L. Decker

Mildred L. Decker, 87, of Salinas, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at SunRidge Convalescent Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born icon in Chillicothe, Mo., and lived in Salinas since 1944. She worked in the business office at Hartnell College and later in the bookkeeping department at Salinas Valley Savings and Loan, which later became Great Western Savings and Loan. She retired in 1972. She was a volunteer Grey Lady at the Fort Ord hospital during World War II and a donor and longtime volunteer with the Red Cross Blood Bank. She also was a volunteer mother adviser with the Rainbow Girls. She was active in the PTA when her children were in school.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Dean K. Decker, April 2000.

Memberships: Reveille Chapter No. 47 Order of the Eastern Star, Active Seniors and First United Methodist Church of Salinas.

Survivors: Daughter, Karen Day of Salinas; sons, Douglas K. Decker of Spokane, Wash., and Alan Decker of San Jose; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: Private family services will be held.

Placement of ashes: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Kenneth J. Barrett

Kenneth J. Barrett, 83, of Prosser, Wash., died Jan. 10, 2001, at his home.
He was born icon in St. Cloud, Minn., and lived in Salinas from 1952 until is retirement in 1978. He received degrees in teaching from St. Cloud Teachers College and Colorado A&M. He taught high school industrial arts in Melrose, Minn., and was an instructor at the University of North Dakota before moving to Salinas. In Salinas, he taught for 26 years at El Sausal and Washington junior high schools and was honored as the National and California State Industrial Education Association's Outstanding Teacher of the Year. While in Prosser, he donated many wooden toys to the local schools.

Memberships: Sacred Heart Church in Prosser.

Survivors: Wife, Pat of Prosser; daughter, Barbara (Herb) of Prosser; stepgranddaughter, Kellie (Jim) Warriner Doyle; one niece; and four nephews.

Services: Have been held.

Memorials: Prosser High School Scholarship Fund.

Raymond Meyers

Raymond Meyers, 66, of Hornbrook, died Dec. 26, 2000, at his home.
He was born icon in Carbondale, Pa., was raised in Pennsylvania and Alaska, lived in Chicago, Ocala, Fla., and for 15 years in Salinas before moving to Siskiyou County about 20 years ago. He worked as a quality control manager with Libby's and for Interharvest. He graduated from Oregon State University with a major in biochemistry. He enjoyed fishing in Alaska and along the Klamath River near his home in Hornbrook.

Military service: U.S. Navy for four years.

Memberships: Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge.

Survivors: Daughters, Sherry (Tim) Bradshaw of Palm Desert and Tera (Keith) of La Quinta; and five grandchildren, Elise, Tim, Brandon, Amanda and Andrea.

Services: No services planned.

Cremation: Girdner Funeral Chapel, 202 S. Oregon St., Yreka.

Acencion Longinos

Acencion Longinos, 83, of Salinas, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at her home after an illness.
She was born icon in San Gariel, Jalisco, Mexico, and lived in Salinas for four years. She was a homemaker.

Survivors: Husband of 45 years, Silviano Longinos of Salinas; daughters, Maria de Jesus Longinos of Mexico and Maria Cecilia Longinos of Salinas; brother, Lucio Bautista of Mexico; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Suzanne Marie Calley

Suzanne Marie Calley, 43, of San Martin, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, aboard American Airlines Flight 77, in Washington, D.C.
She was born icon in Auburn and grew up in Pacific Grove. She worked in strategic alliances for Cisco Systems in San Jose. She would have celebrated her 44th birthday Sept. 17. She and her husband traveled all over the world scuba diving. She was an avid snow skier and loved traveling.

Survivors: Husband of 20 years, Frank G. Jensen of San Martin; mother and her husband, Norma and Thomas Keleher of Pacific Grove; father, Jack Calley of Roseville; brother, Scott (Karen) Calley of Monterey; mother-in-law, Evelyn Jensen of Gilroy; brothers-in-law, Jim (Lucy) Jensen of Morgan Hill and Don (Laura) Jensen of Gilroy; seven nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Dennis and Peggy Springgay of Gilroy.
