Adelaide Anne Solomon
Adelaide Anne Solomon, 81, of Morro Bay died Thursday, March 2, 2000, with her son at her side.
Private services will be held.
Mrs. Solomon was born icon Nov. 23, 1918, to Frank and Mary Elliott in Southwell, England. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morro Bay and Jewish Women’s Group of Greenwood Lake, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Solomon, in 1986.
She is survived by a son, David Solomon of Morro Bay; and a sister, Ruth Bottomley of England.
Remembrances may be made to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast, 285 South St., Ste. I, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.
Arrangements are by Coast Family Cremation.

Peggy Gayton
Peggy Gayton, 56, of Grover Beach died Friday, March 3, 2000, in Arroyo Grande of cancer.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lady Family Mortuary. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Arroyo Grande. Burial will be at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery.
She was born icon Oct. 19, 1943, in Murray, Calif.
Gayton had resided in Grover Beach for 37 years and was employed as a meat wrapper for 28 years. She belonged to the Retail Clerks Local Union 1036. She also attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
She enjoyed gardening, traveling and won several awards for her knitting.
Survivors include a sister, Norma Garcia of Arroyo Grande; a niece, Marisa Garcia of Atascadero; a nephew, Scott Garcia of Nipomo; a niece, Monica Garcia of Lebanon; and two great nieces and two great nephews.
Arrangements are by Lady Family Mortuary.

Stephan Kent
Stephan “Steve” Kent, 81, of Grover Beach died Saturday, March 4, 2000, of lung cancer at a San Luis Obispo hospital.
No services are planned.
Mr. Kent was born icon Nov. 27, 1919, in Ukraine, Russia.
He had resided in Grover Beach for 22 years and was the owner of Kents Auto Body for 22 years.
Mr. Kent was a loyal husband, a great golfer and a loving father who served his craft well.
Survivors are his wife, Wyona; a daughter, Stephanie Montelone of Woodland Hills; sons Bryan Kent of Martinez and Marc Kent of Shell Beach; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Lady Family Mortuary.

Tokuko Christian
Tokuko Christian, 66, of Arroyo Grande died Friday, March 3, 2000, in Arroyo Grande.
No services are scheduled.
Mrs. Christian was born icon Jan. 10, 1934, in Japan.
She had lived in Arroyo Grande for four years and previously resided in Grover Beach. She was employed as a cook.
She enjoyed working in the garden and arranging flowers as well as cooking.
Survivors are two daughters, Pamela Ann Richards of Arroyo Grande and Margaret Kinue Locke of San Diego, and seven grandchildren.
Arrangements are Lady Family Mortuary in Arroyo Grande.

William ‘Ron’ Sanders
Ron Sanders died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at a Greenbrae hospital, as a result of injuries sustained from a fall while visiting a sand and gravel quarry where he used to be employed. He was 65.
A service will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Templeton. A reception will follow at Templeton Legion Hall, at Main and Eighth streets in Templeton.
Mr. Sanders was the first-born son of three children born icon to William and Ingrid Sanders of San Francisco. His parents owned and operated the Avalon Ballroom in that city.
A native of San Francisco, he attended San Rafael High School and a junior college and obtained an associate degree. He purchased his first service station when he was 18 and began a career as a small business owner.
Mr. Sanders was in forestry service as a young man and enjoyed helping people improve themselves. He went into the rock business at a young age and became a longtime resident of Marin County.
He later moved to San Luis Obispo County and resided in Templeton from 1975 until his retirement in 1990 from Kaiser Sand & Gravel, holding the position of plant manager. He was immediate supervisor for seven plants in the area, working mostly in San Luis Obispo and Santa Margarita. He then moved to his most recent residence in Oregon, where he and his wife purchased a ranch in the town of Winston in Douglas County.
Passionate about his work, Mr. Sanders was primarily a real estate investor and avid stock trader who had a knack for business. He owned many small businesses, including service stations, grocery stores, bars, a real estate office and a clothing store, many of which he owned and operated while working in the rock business, often putting in 16-hour days, his family says.
Mr. Sanders was a member of many organizations, including the Lions Club, an elected official of the Olalla Water District, a volunteer for Senior Community Service, where he was a bus driver, the San Francisco Boys Club, the Purple Kumquats and an honorary member of the SloFortunes.com.
At the time of his death he was enjoying what he loved to do, visiting the quarry and reminiscing about his love for the rock business, his family says. He was found collecting various rocks for his grandchildren.

Wanda Cavallaro
Wanda Cavallaro, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, in Morro Bay.
Burial will be held and a memorial Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 12, at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City. A memorial Mass will also be said at 12:10 p.m. Monday, March 13, at Old Mission San Luis Obispo.
Mrs. Cavallaro was born icon in Baltimore, Md., moving to Los Angeles in 1944. She married pianist Carmen Cavallaro and they had three children.
She spent many years helping to manage her husband’s career and making a home for her family. She lived in San Luis Obispo for the last 20 years. She was active in marketing antique collectibles, hospital volunteering, women’s club activities and aqua-kinetics.
She is survived by her son, Paul; daughter Anita Finkelstein; granddaughter Andrea Finkelstein; and three siblings, Viola Doty, Anita McDonald and Frank Ziegel.

Linn Kelleher
Linn M. Kelleher, 80, formerly of Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo, died in his sleep Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in Thousand Oaks after a five-month battle with lung and brain cancer.
A memorial service was held Feb. 25, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks.
Mr. Kelleher was born icon Dec. 30, 1919, in Denver, Colo. He grew up in Salida, Colo., and attended Western State College in Gunnison, University of Colorado at Boulder and UC Berkeley. He graduated with a degree in chemical engineering and began working for Union Oil Co. in 1943 in Rodeo.
He was later transferred to Cut Bank, Mont., as assistant superintendent of the oil refinery. There, he met and married Margaret Boe. He returned to California and resided in Napa for 12 years. In 1962 he was transferred to the Santa Maria Refinery, where he remained until 1969. He retired from the Los Angeles office of Union Oil as manager of crude oil supply in 1985.
Mr. Kelleher enjoyed the outdoors of Colorado and skiing, which he did into his 70s. After retiring, he continued to play tennis and walked five miles a day, until two days before his diagnosis in September of 1999.
He is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Margaret; daughters Kathlinn Kelleher and Sally Weaver and husband Gary of Redwood Valley; son Jim Kelleher and wife Sandy of Thousand Oaks; granddaughter Aimee-Linn Silveria Westlund of Stevenson Ranch and grandsons Joshua and A.J. Weaver and wife Pam; a sister, Justine Talley of Pomona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are by Pierce Brothers Mortuaries and Cemeteries in Westlake Village.

Carrie LaVurn Willhoit
Long time resident of San Luis Obispo County, LaVurn Willhoit, died at a skilled care facility in Gresham, Ore., of complications from a recent surgery, Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at the age of 86. Because of health problems, she had moved to Oregon seven years ago to be near her youngest daughter, Mary.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Templeton Cemetery.
Born Dec. 29, 1913 in Sidney, Ohio, to Henry and Vera Ordean, Mrs. Willhoit moved to California in the late 1920s with her family and resided in the
Glendale-Burbank area. While living in Southern California, she married Spencer Vick in 1936 and they had two daughters. In the mid-1940s, the family moved to Santa Margarita and resided there for about 10 years. She was employed by the Roy Chandler Hat Factory in Santa Margarita. Spencer Vick died in 1950.
In 1954, she married Tom Willhoit of Templeton, to whom she was married for 10 years. Mrs. Willhoit moved to Atascadero during the 1970s and resided there until her move to Oregon in 1993. She worked at the San Luis Obispo
County Health Department in vital statistics for about 14 years until her retirement. She loved to travel and work on her family's genealogy, take trips in her camper-pickup or van across the States to locate family history. She was a member of the AARP in Atascadero where she enjoyed playing cards and was also active in working with the election committee. She attended Atascadero Gospel Chapel and enjoyed going camping at Hume Lake Christian Camp.
When she moved to Oregon, she resided in a retirement complex until her health made it necessary to move briefly to an adult foster care home. She then lived with her daughter, Mary, for three years, and for the past three years she resided in adult foster care homes due to increased health problems.
She is survived by daughters Barbara Schultz of Henderson, Nev., and Mary Tooley of Sandy, Ore.; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, a nephew, a grand nephew and a grand niece.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jacque Ordean.
The family suggests that any donations be made to the Diabetes Association.

Jose Castillo
Jose M. Castillo, 84, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at his Guadalupe residence.
Visitation is Wednesday from 5 p.m. until recitation of a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1164 Obispo St. in Guadalupe. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. The Rev. Abel Suquilvide, pastor of the church, will be celebrant.
Mr. Castillo was born icon June 12, 1916, in Ed Couch, Texas, to Divorcio and Natividad Castillo. He was raised in Texas, remaining there until moving to the Central Coast of California, where he settled in Nipomo, eventually moving to Guadalupe 40 years ago.
A self-educated man, he worked as a laborer, as a cook and in the sanitation department at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Also a former mechanic, he received a mechanic’s diploma in 1961. He was an avid gardener and loved to read. A devoted Catholic, Mr. Castillo was active in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. He enjoyed being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sinforosa “Rosie” Castillo, whom he married July 24, 1936, in Texas; and children Jacinto and wife Maria Castillo of Mexico, Conception and wife Antonia Castillo of Texas, Josephine and husband Steve Paduganun of Santa Maria, Fermin and wife Linda Castillo of Santa Maria, Jamie Beatrice and husband Rick Jelski of Los Angeles, Rosie and husband Raul Gauna of Santa Maria, Louie and wife Cindy Castillo of Santa Maria, Elyda and husband Salvador Castro of Santa Maria, Mary Lou and husband Armondo Ruiz of Fresno, Angelita and husband Juan Mendez of Oceano, Peter and wife Debbie Castillo of Nipomo, Joey and wife Connie Castillo of Santa Maria, Martin Castillo of Guadalupe, Yolanda and husband Ronnie Escarzaga of Santa Maria, Sylvia and husband Arnulfo Hernandez of Guadalupe, Daniel and wife Velia Castillo of Hanford, David and wife Maria Castillo of Santa Maria, Maria Elena and husband Robert Ortiz of Guadalupe and Rene and wife Mary Lou Castillo of Fresno. Mr. and Mrs. Castillo also have raised five grandchildren.
Additional survivors include 87 grandchildren, 91 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by twin children, Santos and Santos Castillo, and a grandson, Fernando Castillo, in 1982.
Arrangements are by Magner-Maloney Funeral Home in Santa Maria.

Mae Goesling
Mae Eunice Depue Goesling died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at her San Luis Obispo home at age 84.
Visitation is from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, with a service at 3 p.m., at Reis Chapel in San Luis Obispo.
Mrs. Goesling was born icon May 6, 1916, in Sophia Valley, N.M., the second of 14 children born icon to Elmer Depue and Nellie Pearl Robertson.
She was married Jan. 4, 1936, to Ed Goesling. Mr. Goesling, her husband of almost 60 years, preceded her in death. They made their home in San Francisco for nearly 50 years before she moved to San Luis Obispo to be near her niece, Corene Deming and her husband Michael Deming, and great-nephew Mark Canaan, his wife, Rozella Packard Canaan and their five children. Mrs. Goesling played an active role in her niece and great-nephew’s family life; baby-sitting and holding slumber parties for the younger children were commonplace.
An avid bowler and an excellent cook, Mrs. Goesling loved gardening and had a green thumb. Around her home in San Francisco in the heart of the Mission district, she displayed much of her ability in horticulture.
Mrs. Goesling also enjoyed pampering her guests. She made many new friends at the Senior Citizen Center and enjoyed her work with the Silver Streaks.
She was preceded in death by sisters Margaret, Mable, Lorene, Erma, Elnora, Charlott and Lois; and a brother, Billy.
She is survived by sisters Edna Barnes, Frankie Miller, Elsie Lawhon and Dolly Cooper; brothers Carrel Depue and Clarence Depue; and numerous nieces and nephews.

William Margaroli,county native
William Margaroli, a native and former longtime resident of San Luis Obispo, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, in Redwood City at age 79.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, 950 Santa Cruz Ave. in Menlo Park.
Mr. Margaroli was retired from United Airlines, and enjoyed tennis, gardening and reading. He was a member of S.I.R.S.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Margaroli of Redwood City; children Gail Ann Margaroli and Patricia Jean Bentley; and grandchildren Rachael and John Bentley.
Memorial contributions are preferred to International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Dr., #206, North Hollywood, CA 91607.
Arrangements are by Woodside Chapel of Crippen & Flynn in Redwood City.
