Earnie T. Langston
1920-2004

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at the Mt. Whitney Cemetery for longtime Lone Pine resident Earnie T. Langston. Rev. Dan Hull, pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene, Ventura, will officiate.

Born in Stroud, Okla. to Archie and Laura Langston on April 13, 1920, Earnie died Sept. 15, 2004 at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nev.

Earnie was proud of his wartime serice to his country. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army as a truck driver with the Army Air Corps in the European Theatre. During his early years in Lone Pine, Earnie worked for Standard Oil and later was employed by the Department of Water and Power, retiring from DWP in 1985.

An avid fisherman and hunter, Earnie missed being able to spend time in the mountains and along the streams of the valley when his health prevented him from continuing to enjoy the outdoors. His leisure hours were spent working around his home and following the lives of his much beloved grandchildren. His grandchildren were a great source of pride for Earnie and he was always there for them with a loving, giving heart.

Earnie is survived by his devoted wife, Mildred; stepdaughters and their husbands, Jane and Chuck Miller and Roxie and Peyton Bates; grandchildren, Dani Miller and her partner Nancy Morrow, Edward (Chuck) Miller and his wife Gena-Lee, Norman Miller and his wife Amy, Curtis Bates and his wife Heather, Carolee Bates and her husband Brent Dias, Christopher Bates and Catherine Bates; great-grandchildren, Troy Miller, MacKinnon Twomey Miller, Flannery Twomey Miller, Keeghan Miller, Rory Miller, Alyssa Miller, Henry Miller, Joshua Bates and Zachary Dias; two sisters, Eunice Clark and Eula Salley; one brother, Leon (Junior) Langston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Johnnie Walker
1942-2004

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop for 36-year Bishop resident Johnnie Walker, 62.

Born in Pasadena on July 16, 1942, Johnnie died Sept. 18, 2004 in Bishop. He was loved by his family very much.

Johnnie is survived by his mother, Mary Walker; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Mike Donnelly; nephew, Paul Watz; and niece, Chadelle Golden.

William ‘Bill' George Stanley
1966-2004

A celebration of life and potluck dinner will be held at the home of Mike Slates and Lynne Almeida, 757 Rome Dr., Bishop, on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 4 p.m. for William "Bill" George Stanley.

Bill was born in Michigan on June 24, 1966. He moved to  Jackson Hole, Wyo. in 1986 where he met the love of his life, Anne Dixon. Bill and Anne were married on July 25, 1991. Together they pursued their passion for mountaineering, backcountry skiing and rock climbing. They moved to Laramie, Wyo. and Flagstaff, Ariz. to earn their degrees at the University of Wyoming and Northern Arizona University, which brought them to Bishop in December of 2000. Bill was employed at Great Basin Air Pollution Control District and Anne is a speech therapist at BUESD.

Bill recently rediscovered the passion of music that he enjoyed in his youth. When not outdoors Bill could be found playing the guitar or mandolin. During the past one and a half years, the mandolin became his musical passion.

Bill is survived by his wife and best friend of 14 years, Anne; mother and stepfather, Nancy and Bill Gardner of Michigan; father and stepmother, Don and Carol Stanley of Michigan; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Beverly Stanley of Michigan; brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Noreen Stanley of Michigan; many nieces, nephews and friends; and Bill and Anne's cat, "Pork Chop."

Donations in Bill's memory may be made to ICARE. A memorial has been set up to assist Anne at  Washington Mutual Bank in Bishop. For more information, call Mary Newton at (760) 873-5924.

Loyd Marvin Alcorn
1902-2004

Memorial services were held at the Alcorn family plot in the Fallon Cemetery in Fallon, Nev. for former Owens Valley resident Loyd Marvin Alcorn.

Loyd was born in Stonington,  Colo. on March 7, 1902 to William H. Alcorn and Delpha E. Konkel Alcorn. He died at a Reno, Nev. hospital on Aug. 26, 2004 due to complications following a fall.

The Alcorn family moved to the Owens Valley when Loyd was a boy. He spent his youth on the Tinnemeha Ranch south of Big Pine and graduated from Bishop Union High School in the 1920s.

After being employed by the Standard Oil Co. for 28 years, he moved to Ojai. He stayed there for a number of years before retiring to Fallon in 1970, where he remained until his death.

Loyd was preceded in death by his wife, Berniece; sister, Velma Watkins; and brothers, Ray and Earl Alcorn.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Lyle Ruppre of Big Pine; sister-in-law, "Cappy" Alcorn of Fallon; and four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Neil Nyberg
1918-2004

A quiet family gathering will be held at a later date in memory of 35-year Bishop resident Neil Nyberg.

The son of Swedish immigrants, Neil was born in Los Angeles on July 16, 1918. He died on Sept. 7, 2004 at Wahsone Medical Center in Reno, Nev.

Neil served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific in World War II. In 1946, he married Margaret Christine Norris and began his career with the California Department of Fish and Game. Most of his 35 years with DFG were spent at the hatcheries in Inyo and Mono counties where he was regional supervisor upon his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Nyberg; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kim Nyberg of Bishop; and grandchildren, Nikki and Kevin Nyberg of Bishop.

John Robert Frederickson
1917-2004

Private memorial services will be held for 24-year Bishop area resident John Robert Frederickson.

John was born in Chicago, Ill. on June 29, 1917 and died in his home in Bishop on Sept. 12, 2004. He was 87.

John was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and was owner of the June Lake Marina from 1973-1980.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Trudy Frederickson of Bishop; son and daughter-in-law, John and Michelle Frederickson of June Lake; son, Steve Frederickson his fianc/e Joan and step-daughter Amber of Bishop; brother, Richard Frederickson of Chicago, Ill; sister and brother-in-law, Harriett and Dave Tobey of Dallas,  Texas; granddaughter, Heather Topp and her husband Jeff; great-granddaughter, Audrey Topp; and numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.

Donations in the name of John Frederickson can be made to the Hospice of the Owens Valley, 155 Pioneer Lane, Bishop, CA 93514.

Lucille Anna Garland
1917-2004

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at the United Methodist Church for 27-year Bishop resident Lucille Anna Garland. Rev Caddy  Jackson will officiate the service and interment will be private.

Lucille was born in Malden, Mass. on Sept. 12, 1917 and died in Bishop on Sept. 9, 2004. She was 86.

Lucille is survived by her husband, Richard C. Garland of Bishop; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Pamela Garland of Westminster; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Marie Garland of Massapequa, N.Y.; grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew and Glen Garland; and sister, Florence Ricker of Berwick, Maine.

Wanda Louise Vickery
1935-2004

Memorial services will be announced at a later date for Wanda Louise Vickery.

Wanda was born on April 25, 1935 and died on Aug. 30, 2004.

She is survived by her loving companion, Thomas Dailey of Ione; her siblings James Vickery of North Pole, Alaska, Lee Vickery of Arizona, Edith Upton of Engleside,  Texas, and Dennis Vickery of  Texas; daughter, Debbie Music of Tonopah, N.Y.; son, Thomas Music of Benton as well as six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
