Cathy M. Schubert

Aug. 4, 1953 -- Feb. 17, 2000

Cathy Marie Schubert, 46, of Newman died Thursday.

Mrs. Schubert was a native of San Jose. She lived in Newman 10 years. She was a truck driver for Coelho Trucking, Turlock. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Scott Schubert of Fort Bridger, Wyo.; children, George Woods of Santa Rosa, Amanda Woods of Newman and Maria Woods of Rohnert Park; mother, Georgia Roland of Newman; brother, Donald Roland of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho; sister, Anita Roland of Newman; and one grandchild.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hillview Funeral Chapel, Newman. Burial will be at Hills Ferry Cemetery, Newman. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

Martina ``Marty" Mateos Kendrick

Martina ``Marty" Mateos Kendrick died at Watsonville Community Hospital on October 6, 2000 after a brief illness. She was 84.

A native of Spain. She was brought to Watsonville as an infant by her parents. Mrs. Kendrick was a homemaker and enjoyed her garden and visits from her grandchildren and friends.

she is survived by her son James C. Kendrick and his wife, Nidia of Watsonville; her daughter Patricia Farnworth of Watsonville; two grand children Brian Kendrick of San Diego and Mark Kendrick of Watsonville. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. ``Bud" Kendrick in 1989 and by four brothers and sisters. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, including Dolores Mullikin of Watsonville.

A mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Holy Eucharist Church on Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. with burial following at Watsonville Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at Mehl's Colonial Chapel on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to be made to the American Heart Assn. 1514 Moffet St. Salinas, CA 93905-3349, the American Diabetes Assn. Region III, 1475 So. Bascom Ave Cmpbell, CA 95008 or to the American Lung Assn. of the Central Coast, 550 Camino El Estero, Monterey, CA 93940.

Mary M. Kennedy

Mary M. Kennedy died in Hollister, CA on Sunday. She was born icon in Watsonville, CA. She was 77.

She had lived all her life in Watsonville and moved to Hollister 3 Years ago to be closer to her niece and family, Margaret and Jim O'Donnell. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Hollister and St. Patrick's Church in Watsonville, The Pajaro Valley Historical Society, Young Ladies Institute and St. Patrick's Altar Society.

Mary M. Kennedy, survived by her nieces and nephews, and their spouses, Ellen and Dick Bozzo of Gilroy, John Kennedy of Camarillo, Margaret and Jim O'Donnell of Hollister, Tim Kennedy of Santa Cruz, Mike and Dee Kennedy of Maine, Kathleen and Ed Key of Napa and Jane Kinderman of Idaho, her sisters in law, Ruth Kennedy of Yountville and Helen Kennedy San Carlos. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and her sister, Zalia Kennedy and her sister in law, Anna Kennedy.

Rosary and vigil service will be on Wednesday evening, Oct 11, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home in Hollister. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Valley Catholic Church in Watsonville. Interment and graveside services will follow the Mass at Pajaro Valley Public cemetery next to the church.

Friends and family can pay their respects at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home in Hollister on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Donations are preferred to Notre Dame School Alumni Association in Watsonville, St. Francis High School or The Pajaro Valley Historical Society c/o Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home, 363 7th St. Hollister, CA 95023 www.legacy.com.

Virginio ``Virgil" Furtado

Virginio ``Virgil" Furtado died at his Watsonville home on October 7th. He was 62.

A native of Sao Jorge, Azores. He was a Watsonville resident for 36 years. He was employed by United Artist Theater Circuits, as a projectionist. For many years working in Watsonville, Salinas, Carmel, and Santa Cruz. Also worked in the construction of movie sets, Miss Calif. Pageant in Santa Cruz, and as a security officer. A past member of the Rosicrucians and Foresters, AFL/CIO Union and Rifle Range Club.

He is survived by his wife Janie M. Furtado of Watsonville. Two daughters Kathleen O'Donnel of Illinois and Monica M. Furtado of Watsonville; two sisters Francelina Santos and Eldora De Jesus both of Massachusetts; three brothers in law Joe, Greg and Paul Moreno; 25 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Virgil Moreno Jr. and a daughter Mary Louise Furtado.

Family prefers remembrances to the American Heart Assn. Vigil service will be at Davis Memorial Chapel on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Private cremation will be at Soquel Cemetery.

Steven L. Gaines

Sept. 9, 1957 -- Nov. 21, 1999

Steven Lee Gaines, 42, of Modesto died Sunday at Memorial Medical Center.

Mr. Gaines was a native and lifelong resident of Modesto. He was a tow truck driver for Ramont's Tow Service for three years and for Scenic Shell for 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie Gaines of Modesto; children, Steven Gaines Jr. of Idaho, Ryan Gaines and Chad Gaines, both of Modesto, and Deona Hall and Shawna Gaines, both of Ceres; mother, Gladys Gaines of White Cloud, Mich.; sister, Debra Burton of Michigan; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Lakewood Memorial Park, Hughson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Eaton Family Funeral Home.

Gary B. Howell

March 9, 1947 -- Nov. 21, 1999

Gary Brian Howell, 52, of Oakdale died Sunday at Memorial Medical Center, Modesto.

Mr. Howell was a native of Oregon. He lived in Oakdale 13 years. He was a mechanic for Modesto and Empire Traction Co. for five years.

He is survived by his companion, Kathy Wallen of Oakdale; children, Steven Howell of Hayward and Kristen Howell of Pennsylvania; sister, Lori Franks of Fresno; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Oakdale Memorial Chapel.

John B. West

Nov. 1, 1948 -- Nov. 19, 1999

John B. West, 51, of Ceres died Friday at his home.

Mr. West was a native of Washington. He was an employee of Northern Refrigerated Transportation Corp. for more than 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann West of Ceres; children, Erika West; mother, Eleanor West of California; sister, Susan West; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Full Gospel Assembly of God Church, Hughson. Private burial. Green Street Mortuary, San Francisco, in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, for melanoma research, 1604 Ford Ave., Suite 8, Modesto 95350.

Joyce D. Barth

June 19, 1929 -- Nov. 22, 1999

Joyce D. Barth, 70, of Hughson died Monday at Memorial Medical Center, Modesto.

Mrs. Barth was a native of Los Angeles. She lived in Hughson 45 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Turlock Country Club and a past president of of the Women's Golf Club. She was a former member of the 20th Century Club. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hughson Ward, as well as the Relief Society.

She is survived by her husband, Cleo "C.H." Barth of Hughson; children, Clinten W. Barth of Oakdale, Clifford H. Barth and Christopher H. Barth, both of Hughson, Clayton J. Barth of Sandy, Utah, and Cheryl J. Skousen of Yuba City; sister, Claudette Moore of Coronado; and 24 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hughson Chapel. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park. Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service, Modesto, in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, for breast cancer research, 1604 Ford Ave., Suite 8, Modesto 95350, or the Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, P.O. Box 925, Hughson 95326.

Alexandria M. Brasil

Oct. 15, 1999 -- Nov. 23, 1999

Alexandria Maria Brasil, infant, of Gustine died Tuesday at her home.

The family belongs to Our Lady of Miracles Catholic Church, Merced.

She is survived by her parents, Nelson and Kathy Brasil of Gustine; grandparents Frank and Mary Parreira of Atwater, and Norberto and Maria Brasil of Sao Jorge, Azores; and great- grandparents, Manuel Machado of Los Banos and Maria Parreira of Atwater.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Turlock Memorial Park, Turlock. Private visitation. Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Chapel, Turlock, in charge of arrangements.

Pamela L. Brown

Sept. 8, 1950 -- Nov. 22, 1999

Pamela L. Brown, 49, of Ceres died Monday at her home.

Mrs. Brown was a native of Delano. She lived in Ceres and previously lived in Turlock 32 years. She was an employee of the Howard Training Center.

She is survived by her mother, Audrey Petros of Ceres; and brothers, Gary Brown and David Lay, both of Turlock, and Stephen Nelson of San Jose.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Dec. 4 at Allen Mortuary, Turlock. No visitation.

Royce L. Headrick Sr.

Sept. 28, 1943 -- Nov. 22, 1999

Royce Lee Headrick Sr., 56, of Keyes died Monday at Emanuel Medical Center, Turlock.

Mr. Headrick was a native of Denison, Texas. He lived in Keyes three years and previously lived in Modesto 33 years. He was a sheetrock hanger for Doyle's Drywall.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Headrick of Keyes; children, Raymond Headrick, Rhonda Headrick and Rick Headrick, all of Keyes, and Royce Headrick Jr. of Oakdale; stepbrother, William Clark of Redding; sister, Doris Cordell of Denison; and 11 grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Turlock Memorial Park, Turlock. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Allen Mortuary, Turlock.

Milford R. Schmidt

Aug. 21, 1948 -- Nov. 23, 1999

Milford Ray Schmidt, 51, of Delhi died Tuesday at Emanuel Medical Center, Turlock.

Mr. Schmidt was a native of Turlock. He lived in Delhi 51 years. He was a farm laborer. He was a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Livingston.

He is survived by his parents, Ervey and Allarecia Schmidt of Delhi; brothers, Laverne Schmidt of Colorado, Dennis Schmidt of Gustine and Norman Schmidt of Delhi; and sisters, Velma Jantz of Yuma, Ariz., and Pat Jantz of Atwater.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Livingston. Burial will follow at Winton District Cemetery, Winton. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel, Atwater.
