Passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2005 in Madera at the age of 74. Nanny was born icon to Julia Montgomery Fain and Austin Fain in Ft. Smith Arkansas on May 5, 1931. She has been a resident of Madera for 50 years where she was a former employee of the County or Madera. Nanny was preceded in death by her husband F.J. Lewis and a son Richard Lewis.

Nanny is survived by her son Frank Lewis and his wife Sandy of Atwater, CA. her daughter Julie Beck and her husband Nick of Madera, her beloved grandson Doug Beck and his wife Jaime of Madera, one sister Mae Letsch of Antioch, CA., one brother Donald Fain of Wichita Falls, TX. She leaves behind a total of 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Visitation is Monday, October 10, 2005 from 2 to 8 PM and Tuesday, October 11, 2005 from 8 AM to 12 Noon in Jay Chapel. A graveside service will be Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at 1 PM in Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.

Ysaura, a resident of Madera passed away Friday, October 7, 2005, at the age of 85. Born in Hayden, Arizona, she has made the San Joaquin valley her home since 1954. She is preceded in death by her husband Bartolo in 2000, and by a son Fidel Baldenegro in 2002. Ysaura is survived by her three sons: Frank, Manuel, and Bartolo Jr., her four daughters; Sara Samudio, Dolores Valdez, Angelita Esquivel and Ernestine Vasquez, 25 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 11, 2005 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Jay Chapel, Madera, California, with a vigil service following at 7 PM at Jay Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joachim Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at 9:00 AM. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Madera, California.

Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Myrtle Inez Jones passed away on Friday, October 7, 2005 at Community Hospital of Fresno after an extended illness. Inez, as she is better know as, was born icon on June 28, 1923 to Samuel Gordon Alfrey and Lizzie Powers Alfrey in Swifton, Arkansas. She has been a resident of Madera since 1947 where she was a homemaker. In Madera, Inez was involved with Senior Citizens activities in the community, and enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandchildren. Inez was preceded in death by her husband Theodore “Ted” Jones in 2001. Ted had worked for Kuckenbecker Tractor Company for many years before his retirement , and earlier in his working years had worked for the Poythress Ranch also in Madera.

In addition to Ted her husband, and her parents, Inez was preceded in death by a brother Donald Alfrey, and her sisters, Margaret Stigall, AnnaMae Alfrey and Vonia Adams.

She is survived by her children, Ronald D. Jones and Myron D. Jones both of Madera, California, and by her daughter Peggy J. Roberts of Fresno, California. She is the cherished grandmother of 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is Tuesday, October 11, 2005 from 2 to 8 PM, and Wednesday, October 12, 2005 from 8 AM to 1 PM at Jay Chapel, with a funeral service at 1 PM in Jay Chapel. Interment will follow in Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.

Polete Edwards

Mr. Polete Edwards was born icon on December 6, 1929 in Boley, Oklahoma to the union of Howard G. Edwards Sr. and Candy Edwards. He attended public schools in Boley where he received his early education.

Polete came to Madera with his parents in 1943, and he graduated from Madera Union High School in 1947. Polete was a construction worker by trade during his early work years, but an injury cut short his labors in this field of work.

Polete attended Fresno City College from 1966-1968 and received an Associate of Science degree in Business. After completing his Associates degree he obtained employment at Fresno State College in 1968 as an accountant. He continued his education at Fresno State College while on the job, and he later completed his work for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business at California State University, Fresno. He retired from Fresno State after a 25 year career in the Accounting Department. He and his family were very proud of his accomplishment. Polete was a very devoted, loving and helpful son in caring for his parents in their later years. Polete attended Second Baptist Church and he was active in the Madera chapter of N.A.A.C.P.

He leaves to mourn his passing: 2 daughters: Marilyn of San Francisco, Deborah of Los Angeles; 3 sons: Kirk of Groton, Connecticut, Keith of Fresno; and Kenneth of Las Vegas, Nevada.; 1 brother: Titus Edwards of Los Angeles; 3 Sisters: Ollie Harris, Mable Amey, and Annie Simmons all of Sacramento; 2 grandchildren: Kayla Edwards and Ponce D. Boyd; Many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by: his former wife: Delois Edwards; Father and Mother: Howard Sr. and Candy Edwards; 1 daughter; Paulette; 3 brothers; Howard Jr. of Madera, Gabriel of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Payne of Los Angeles; 1 sister: Arlelia Brown of Sacramento, California.

Poletes family loved his very much and he will be missed by all who knew him. The Lord called him home in the early morning of October 7, 2005 in Madera, California.

Age 65, a native of Chowchilla, CA and a resident of Madera for 26 years passed away on Friday, October 7, 2005 at Stanford Medical Center. She was a former waitress for the Village Restaurant for 20 years then a child nutritionist for the Madera Unified School District for 12 years. She was a member of Valley West Christian Center in Madera.

Clema was preceded in death by her parents: Shorty and Kathleen Oehler, her husbands: Grady Clark and Bob Scroggins, son: Curtis Clark, daughter: Lorretta Clark, granddaughter: Kali Hollier and brother: Stephen Oehler.

She is survived by her son: David Clark of Salinas, CA. 2 daughters: Tammie Clark Davis and Melissa Hollier both of Madera, CA. 5 brothers: Bill Oehler of Sacramento, CA; Lynn Oehler of Texas; Leon Oehler of Raymond, CA; Phillip Oehler of Bakersfield, CA & Ray Oehler of Atwater, CA. 1 sister: Kay Montalvo of Madera, CA. She was the grandmother of 15 and the great-grandmother of 1.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 13, 2005 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Friday, October 14, 2005 from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. both at Jay Chapel in Madera. Funeral Services will be on Friday, October 14, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. at the Valley West Christian Center in Madera. Interment will follow at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.

George Washington “Pete” McGee

Pete McGee, age 88, a native of Cecil, AR a former resident of Concord, CA and a resident of Madera, CA for 14 years, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 in Fresno, CA. He was a retired roofer. Pete was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army and received 2 Bronze Stars and was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Pete is survived by his wife of 24 years: Marie McGee of Madera, CA and 1 stepson: Walter Rowe of Clovis, CA. He was the beloved step-grandfather to Janet, Shari, Jane, Joanna and Howell.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 17, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at Jay Chapel in Madera. Interment will follow at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.

Myrle, a resident of Madera passed away Thursday, October 13, 2005, at the age of 84. Born in Freewater, Oregon, Myrle made Madera his home for the past 50 years. He was a painting contractor for 35 years. Myrle was a member of Madera Joppa Lodge F & AM #280 in Madera, the Scottish Rite & Tehran Temple, of which he was past president, in Fresno. He was a Veteran of U.S. Army and a member of VFW post #1981. Myrle and his wife attended the United Methodist Church in Madera.

Myrle is survived by his wife Mae of 57 years, his two sons, Rick Lawler of Washington and Steven Lawler of Madera, his two daughters Janice of Arizona and Eva Kurtz of Madera, his brother Raymond Lawler of Washington, two sisters Mayine McLaughlin of Quincy, and Linda Pique of Sacramento, along with 8 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Madera County Cattle Women for many years, former Cowbell Of The Year and the Raymond Grandmothers Club.

She is survived by her son, Tom Turk of Chowchilla, CA, a daughter, Ellyn Faulkner of Clovis and her sister Helen Sprinkle of Long Beach, CA. She was the beloved grandmother of 8, great-grandmother of 9 and a great-great grandmother.

Graveside service will be on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at the Chowchilla District Cemetery in Chowchilla, CA.

Hattie is survived by her two sons Danny Brown of Madera, and Michael Brown of Turlock, her two daughters Shirley Smith of Farmersville, and Gina Thompson of Madera. She also leaves behind her brother Albert Lee Campbell of Tulsa, Oklahoma and three sisters, Lilly Wright, Geraldine Wells, and Pauline Subner all of Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as three Grandchildren and six Great-Grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2005, 2:00 PM at Arbor Vitae Cemetery, Madera, California.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2005 from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Jay Chapel, Madera, California.
