Rosie L. Chavez passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2006 at the age of 51. She was a native and life resident of Madera. Rosie was a member of St. Joachim Catholic Church, and was a graduate of Madera High School, class of 1972. She was a homemaker, a wife, mother and grandmother. Rosie is survived by her husband Julian Chavez, her mother Rosa Luna of Madera, sons Jesse Chavez and Gonzalo Fierro both of Madera, her daughter Angelique Ruiz of Madera, brothers Alfred, Leonard and Johnny Luna all of Madera, her sister Jennie Alameida of Madera and three Grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2006 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Jay Chapel, Madera, CA. A vigil will be held at 5:00 PM on Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Jay Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 27, 2006 at 9:00 AM at St. Joachim Catholic Church, Madera, CA.

John Gomez Beltran

Mr. John G. Beltran, a native and resident of Madera for 35 years, a former resident of San Jose and Gilroy area, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2006 in Fresno at the age of 75. John worked as a laborer in commercial construction for 27 years in the bay area until his retirement in 1988. John and his first wife Juanita returned to Madera in 1988 until 1998 when Juanita passed away. John later moved to Fresno in 1999 and married Isabelle in January of 2000.

John was a member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Madera, and after moving to Fresno attended Sacred Heart Parish. John served for four years as the President of the Guadalupana Society in Madera was active in the Madera Old Friends Reunion and was a Veteran of the U.S.M.C. in 1951.

John is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Juanita and daughter Christine.

He is survived by his wife Isabelle of Fresno, CA, his children, Peter J. Beltran of Sacramento, CA, Daniel Beltran of Manteca, CA, John Beltran Jr. and Steven Beltran both of San Jose, CA, Greg Beltran of Stockton, CA, Jaime Beltran of Phoenix, AZ, and Ernestina Prado of Madera, his step-daughter Margaret Ayala of Fresno, his brother Henry Beltran of Sugar Pine, CA, Joe Beltran of Reno, NV, and Salvador Beltran of Madera, and his sisters, Mary Beltran of Madera, Carmen Beltran of San Jose, and Consuelo Campos of Madera. John is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 20067 from 2:00 – 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at Jay Chapel in Madera. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 9:00 am at St. Joachim Catholic Church with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Madera.

Remembrances may be made to the St. Joachim’s Building Fund, 401 W. 5th Street, Madera, CA 93637.

Irene Yvonne Barber

Age 87, a native of Düsseldorf, Germany and a resident of Madera for 30 years, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2006 at a Madera hospital. She was a homemaker. Irene was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and was active at St. Margaret’s Thrift Shop. She was a member of the Altar Society at the church and enjoyed playing Bridge, gardening and being around animals and pets.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wilfred, son Wil Barber and step-son Albert Gene Barber. She is survived by her son Klaus Barber and his wife Sallie of Redding, CA and 4 granddaughters: Lori Anderson of Sonora, CA; Liz Charlton of Sherman Oak, CA; Shelly Taylor of Oak Park, IL and Kathryn Barber of Moraga, CA. She was the great-grandmother of 3.

Memorial Services will be on Friday, March 3, 2006 at 4:00 P.M. at Jay Chapel in Madera, Rev. Bruce Kirkwood of the Episcopal Diocese officiating.. Inurnment will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose, CA.

Remembrances may be made to the Shriner’s Children Hospital: 2425 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95817 or the Humane Society: 103 So. Hughes Avenue, Fresno, CA 93706.

Daryl James “Jim” Maurer

Jim came into this world in Inglewood, CA on February 13, 1948. He left this world peacefully at home with his wife, Beverly at his side on February 25, 2006 after a short but tough fight with cancer in Madera, CA.

Jim was a tradesman for over forty years. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Maurer, brother & sister-in-law, Gene & Debbie Maurer, sons & daughter-in-laws, Bill & Toni Maurer, Bob & Carin Maurer, Dewayne & Tricia Mott and daughter, Lisa Saenz. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, many other family members along with many friends.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2006 at First United Methodist Church, 1612 9th Street at “P” Street, Sanger, CA at 11:00 A.M.

D’Jeanne Cain, 86, a native of Oklahoma, a former 20 year resident of Madera, California and a resident of Fresno since 2002, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2006 in St. Agnes Hospital of Fresno. A homemaker, she was preceded in death by her husband Doyle Cain, and by her two sons, Wayne Cain and Delbert “Dell” Cain. She is survived by extended family members and by her good friend Bruce Dennie of Fresno.

A graveside service for D’Jeanne will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 2 PM in Arbor Vitae Cemetery, 1301 Roberts Avenue in Madera.

Louis Lino Pitto

Louis L. Pitto, better known as Louie passed away on Monday, February 27, 2006 at the age of 90. Louie was born icon on April 23, 1915 in Jackson, California to Italian Immigrants Luigi and Amelia Benetti Pitto. His father Luigi passed away when Louie was 3 years old and later had Pete Giometti come into his life as his step-father when he married his mother. Louie graduated with the class of 1932 of Stockton High School. He later moved to Madera where he resided for 65 years. He met and married his wife Rose Filiponi on December 28, 1935. In Madera he was a member of St. Joachim Catholic Church, and the Madera B.P.O.E. #1918. Louie was a Bus Driver and custodian for both Howard and Eastin Arcola Schools, later he went to work for the county of Madera as Chief Custodian . However, most San Joaquin Valley residents will remember Louie as the Bartender at the former Lucca’s Restaurant in Madera, where he tended bar and welcomed patrons for 47 years, until his last retirement in 1995. Since 1995 Louie and his wife Rose have made their home in Fresno where they attended St. Anthony of Padua Church.

Louie was preceded in death by his parents Luigi and Amelia Pitto, step-father Pete Giometti and brother Frank Pitto.

In addition to his wife of 70 years, Rose, Louie is survived by his children, Barbara Mayes and her husband Ken of Florida, and Diane Witherow and husband Frank of Fresno. He is the beloved grandfather of Stephen Mayes, Jennifer Breton, Janet Blanchard, Ken Witherow, and Julie Henderson and great-grandfather of 6.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 2, 2006 from 2 to 7 PM in Jay Chapel with the Vigil Rosary Service following at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 3, 2006 at 11 AM in St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera with interment in Calvary Cemetery.

Remembrances in Louie’s memory may be made to Optimal Hospice, 6760 N. West Avenue, Fresno, CA 93711 or Donor’s Favorite Charity.

Mrs. Celia Torres, 87, a resident of Madera for 65 years, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2006 at Madera Community Hospital. A native of Mexico, Mrs. Torres was a homemaker and was a member of St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera. She was preceded in death by her husband Juan in 2003 and by a daughter Maria.

Mrs. Torres is survived by her children, sons, Herman Torres and Isdro Torres both of Madera, and by Genaro Torres, Guillermo Torres, Jose Luis Torres, and John Torres Jr. all of Fresno, daughters, Agapita Torres-Rocha and Sofia Torres Andaverda both of Madera. She is the sister of Julia Luera of Weslaco Texas, and Aurelia Torres of Rio Bravo Mexico. She is the beloved grandmother of 24, great-grandmother of 28, and great-great grandmother of 2.

Vigil Service will be at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 3, 2006 at 9:30 AM also in St. Joachim Catholic Church, interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery
