Obituary:
Katherine Marie, or Kathy, as most of us called her, was born to Frank P. and Rita I. Mattis on March 31, 1947. She spent the majority of her life in Turlock, CA growing up on the family farm. Kathy worked at Sensient Dehydrated Flavors Company, formerly Rogers Foods, for forty years. She loved her job. She loved her life.
There were not very many places that Kathy could travel without bumping into someone who she knew. She was loved by just about everyone she came into contact with. Very outspoken and straight to the point, Kathy could make even the strongest man blush.
Kathy was a strong willed, energetic woman who always tried to look at the brighter side of things. She was diagnosed with cancer in February of this year. Her fight with the disease was short, but valiant. She fought until the very end. Her body gave out, not her spirit. Kathy passed on April 26 at Emanuel Medical Center with her family and loved ones by her side.
Kathy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Ron Whitaker; son and daughter-in-law Lee and Shelby Wyatt, and their two children Katie and Kendall Wyatt; brother Paul F. Mattis and niece Nikole Mattis; brother Frank and Judy Mattis and nephew Donald Mattis; niece Tiann Rouse; nephews Adam and Raphael Castro; and friend and companion Alice Fogle, all of Turlock, CA. Kathy is survived by many more than just biological family. She took anyone and everyone into her arms and made them feel welcome and loved. Many of those whom she worked with are also considered family. Viewing will be held at Allen Mortuary on Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008 at Turlock Memorial Park. Chaplain, Charlie Crane of the Alexander Cohen Hospice House, will officiate the service. Memorial contributions can be made in Kathy’s name to the American Cancer Society.
