Freeman Glen  Whiteside
1914-2004

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 3 at the Brune & Buck Mortuary Chapel in Bishop for longtime local resident Freeman Glen  Whiteside.

Barbara Crockett, lay pastor, will officiate the service.

Interment will be private.

Freeman, known by his close friends as “Pete,” was born in Rocky, Okla. on Sept. 2, 1914.

He lived in the Bishop area for 40 years, and died March 25, 2004 at Riverside Community Hospital in Riverside.

He was 89.

Pete was owner/operator of Bishop Home Furnishings for 40 years, and also owned and operated Carousel Fabrics.

He was a member of the Bishop Saddle Club.

Pete is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Darlene  Whiteside of Saugus; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Bonnie  Whiteside of Reno, Nev.; and five grandchildren.

Cynthia Jean Fowler
1962-2004

Graveside services will be held at the Hawthorne Cemetery in Hawthorne, Nev. on Monday, April 5 at 1 p.m. for Cynthia Jean Fowler.

Visitation and viewing will be at Gunter's Mortuary from 10 a.m.-noon on the morning of April 5.

Cynthia, beloved daughter and sister, died on March 29, 2004 in Garden Grove.

At her side attending to her needs was her lifelong love and companion, Stephen Sluk.

Cynthia, “Cindy,” was born April 27, 1962 in Bakersfield. She attended elementary school in Lone Pine and Gardnerville, Nev. and graduated from Douglas High School, in Minden, Nev., in May of 1981.

The following September, she entered Brooks College of Fashion Merchandising in Long Beach and graduated two years later with her degree in Merchandising in 1983.

Cindy was a very outgoing, friendly and industrious individual who touched many lives, loved ones said.

She was overcome in early adulthood with schizophrenia, a very disabling condition.

Cindy is survived by her parents, Edward and Dorothy Fowler of Hawthorne, Nev; sisters, Catherine McMurphy of Hawthorne and Tamara Alexander of Carson City, Nev.; a brother, Stewart “Rod” Fowler; aunts, Frances Ming of Bishop, Iva Barbe of Ridgecrest, Mary Fry and Olga Copley of Bakersfield and Alberta Weeks and Margaret Trynham of  Texas; uncles, Jesse Fowler of Hawthorne,

Donald Fowler and Albert Fowler of Garborville and Robert Kennedy of Sandpoint, Idaho; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Donations in the memory of Cynthia may be made to the Schizophrenic Research Department at the University of California-Irvine, Irvine, CA 92619.

Berrell Ewer Smith Pronold

The family of Berrel Ewer Smith Pronold has announced her recent death in Boca Raton, Fla. of natural causes related to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Per her wishes, Mrs. Pronold was cremated in Boca Raton and her ashes will be scattered at sea in private family services near La Jolla, where she raised her family and often swam at nearby WindAnSea Beach.

Mrs. Pronold is remembered my many in La Jolla and San Diego for her church choir work and numerous singing roles in the early days of the La Jolla Playhouse working with Gregory Peck and Mel Ferrer.

She also had many leading and supporting singing parts in San Diego’s Starlight Opera in the 1940s and ‘50s, including in productions such as “Annie Get Your Gun,” “The Three Musketeers” and “ Oklahoma!”

Loved ones said she was amazingly skilled at clothing and costume design and used those skills with her theater work as well as helping her friends and neighbors.

Berrel Pronold sang in church choirs in La Jolla and was often requested for solos at weddings, Christmas services, special events and Easter cantatas, including appearances at La Jolla’s Mt. Soledad for sunrise services.

Her love of music was passed along to daughter Peggy, an accomplished organist and pianist, and son Stanley, who is active in the Bishop and Owens Valley area with community and professional Big Band concerts.

Stanley is known as a past First Trumpeter player for the U.S. Army Europe Band in Heidelberg, Germany.

Along with Bob Behrendt, who trumpeted with the Stan Kenton Band for many years, Stan volunteers to play TAPS for local veteran services.

Berrel is survived by her son, Stanley C. Smith of Bishop; daughter, Rev. Peggy Smith Block of Ridgefield, Conn.; and grandchildren, Jason Edwin Smith of Reno, Nev. (BUHS Class of 1995), Kathryn Ashley Smith Coffman of Big Pine (BUHS Class of 1998) and Jessica Smith Block of Venice.

The family requests that remembrance of Berrel Pronold might be in the form of support for local church choirs, music programs or school music education classes, or to a favorite Alzheimer’s or hospice caregiver.

Dale Ray Delgado, Sr.
1955-2004

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 9 at Valley Presbyterian Church in Bishop for 48-year Bishop resident Dale Ray Delgado, Sr.

Interment will be at Sunland Cemetery.

Additionally, there will be a cry dance on Thursday, April 8 at the Delgado residence, 347 Winuba Ln. in Bishop.

The funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Laura Joost-Kuhn.

Dale was born in Bishop on Sept. 8, 1955, and died on April 2, 2004 at Northern Inyo Hospital in Bishop.

Dale was preceded in death by his brothers, Gordon Moose, Sr. and Raymond Moose; and his father-in-law, David McCabe, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Linda McCabe-Delgado of Bishop; stepchildren, Hosteen McCabe of Albuquerque, N.M. and Daniel and Lindsey McCabe of Bishop; sons, “Chad” Dale Delgado, Jr. of Murrieta and Darren Delgado of Bishop; brothers, George Apalatea of Bishop, Lindsay Delgado of Sacramento and John Delgado, Sr. of Bishop; sister, Cindy Delgado-Gonzales of Bishop; mother, Frances Moose of Bishop; father, Manuel Delgado of Bishop; and mother-in-law, Mary Alice McCabe of Parker, Ariz. Delgado is also survived by his aunt, Leora “Wendy” Charley of Big Pine; cousins, Julia Menzhuber and family of Bishop and Southern California, JoAnn Andreas and family of Bishop, Rosanne, Darrel and David Moose of Big Pine and Irwin and Gaylene Moose of Bishop; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Angeline Gloria Bever
1934-2004

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10 at the Brune & Buck Mortuary Chapel in Bishop for lifelong Bishop resident Angeline Gloria Bever, age 69.

Gretchen Hess will officiate the services.

Interment will be at Woodman Cemetery in Big Pine.

Additionally, visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 9 from 1-5 p.m.

Born May 21, 1934 in Schurz, Nev., Angeline died March 30, 2004 in Folsom.

She lived in Bishop for 69 years.

Angeline is survived by daughters, Carol Warlie, Sandra Warlie, Bernie Bever and Deanna Pole; sons, Harold Bever, Jr. and Wallace Bever; cousins, Eugene Martinez, Mary Davis and Betty Davis; grandchildren, Christopher Williams, Eva Lent, Amity Nelson, Joseph Bacoch, Marnie Andreas, Corey Romo, Gloria Vega, Dakota Bever, Dillon Bever, Stevie Pole, Greg Thomas and Niel Martinez; great-grandchildren, Little Eva Lent, Mariah Bencoma, Morningstar Lent and Chaaden Romo; an unborn great-grandchild due in May; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
