Lee Allen De Graffenried, Jr.
1937-2004

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 10 at the First United Methodist Church for Lee Allen De Graffenried.

The Rev. Caddy  Jackson will officiate.

Private interment will be at the East Line Street Cemetery.

Born July 29, 1037 in Sapulpa, Okla., Lee died at his home on April 5, 2004 from cancer and heart problems.

Honorary pallbearers are lifetime school friends Tom Fallon, Dick Moxley, Bob Gribben, John Corwin, John Denault, Brian Shoemaker, Gordon Spoor and Chuck Kilpatrick, who will also give the eulogy.

Lee is a 1955 graduate of Bishop Union High School and a graduate of Southwestern College in  Oklahoma City, Okla. with a degree in Associate Arts.

He played Bishop Varsity Football and was on the ski team. He was a member of the Order of Demolay.

Lee received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force in September, 1959.

He worked for 30 years as an air traffic control specialist with the FAA out of Los Angeles,  Oklahoma City and Denver,  Colo.

He was in management and was a student training instructor, having retired in November, 1990.

He was a member of the Bishop Elks.

Lee returned to Bishop in August of 2000 with his new bride and childhood sweetheart, Joan Christianson De Graffenried.

They were married June 6, 2000 at the Bishop Calvary Baptist Church.

Lee was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Summors De Graffenried; his father, Lee De Graffenried, Sr.; and his brother, John De Graffenried.

Lee is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Susan De Graffenried of Arvada,  Colo., and Janice Malone and her husband Phil of Boise, Idaho; son, Lee De Graffenried, III and his wife Aimee of Castlerock,  Colo.; stepsons, Thomas Niedzialek ad his wife Lee of Fullerton and David Niedzialek of Chino; stepdaughter, Donna Wallius and her husband Bill of Altodera; four grandchildren, Joshua Dorr, Shaelyn Malone and Zane and Vanessa De Graffenried; step-granddaughters, Danielle and Nicole Wallius; mother, Gennieve De Graffenried of Bishop; and sister, Jeanette Brodbury of Sanger.

Helen J. Hoffman

1922-2004

Honoring her request, no services will be held for Helen Jeannette Hoffman, a resident of Lone Pine for 49 years.

Helen died Jan. 12, 2004 at her residence following a lingering illness. She was 81.

Helen was born Dec. 7, 1922 to Edgar Allan and Anne Elizabeth McKettrick Wilson.

She married William S. Hoffman on Oct. 31, 1954 in Las Vegas, Nev.

She was a founding partner of La Florista Flower Shop in Lone Pine.

Helen worked as an x-ray technician for 20 years, and served two terms on the Board of Directors of Southern Inyo Hospital.

She loved painting and many of her artworks reside at various locations in the Lone Pine area.

Helen is survived by her husband, William; a daughter, Gary-Ann Kimerling of Key West, Fla.; a son, Donald Dale Hoffman and his wife, Sharen, of Denver,  Colo.; and two grandchildren.

Robert Francis Timmons

1931-2004

Robert Francis Timmons died Jan. 15, 2004. He was born March 6, 1931.

Robert attended a school for the deaf in Berkeley.

He was a clamper and spent many hours at the VFW hall using his carpentry skills.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay and Julia Timmons, and his brother, Norman Timmons.

Robert is survived by sons, Martin and Tim Timmons; nieces and nephews, and two grandsons, Ian and Collin.

Robert Nelson Hayes

1925-2004

Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. at the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop for long-time local resident Robert Nelson Hayes.

Pastor Kenton Puls will officiate.

Born in Corona on Aug. 17, 1925, Robert died Jan. 14, 2004 in Bishop, where he lived for the past 35 years.

Robert is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Steve Gilman of Crowley Lake; daughter, Susan  Johnson of Yumattilea, Ore.; grandchildren, Stephanie and Robert Gilman, Shelly Key and Hank Johnson; and five great-grandchildren.

Kingsley Alexander Matthews

1922-2003

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church (205 N. Fowler St.) in Bishop for long-time Mono County resident Kingsley Alexander Matthews, age 81. Rev. Caddy  Jackson will officiate.

Born in Los Angeles on Aug. 19, 1922, King died Dec. 16, 2003 in Mammoth Lakes.

He had lived in Mono County for the past 25 years.

King was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

He is survived by wife, Margaret L. Matthews of Mammoth Lakes; son and daughter-in-law, James K. and Meg Matthews of O Fallon, Ill.; son, Thomas N. Matthews of Hayward; son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Anky Matthews of Las Vegas, Nev.; brothers, William N.

Matthews of Glendale and Chuck Matthews and his wife, Linda, of Camarillo; sisters, Darlene Kangas, Jackie Parker and Lucy Miller; and grandchildren, Alec and Graham.

Donations in King s memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Adult Day Care Center at the United Methodist Church in Bishop.
