Clifford Hendon
Clifford Daniel Hendon passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2000 at Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe. He was 82.
Mr. Hendon was born Jan. 13, 1918 in Numa, Iowa. He married Barbara Spangenberg in Corona, California in 1938. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was a glass manufacturing supervisor, retiring after 35 years in that business. He came to the Blythe area three months ago to be near his daughter.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Mike Schmidke, of Blythe, and daughter, Linda Olinger of Chino, Calif; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara in 1998.
Visitation was held Sunday, July 23 at Frye Chapel. Graveside services were held Monday, July 24, at Bellvue Memorial Park in Ontario,  Calif. Interment followed in the Hendon family plot at Bellvue Memorial Park.
Frye Chapel and Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Alta Cobb
Alta Berdine “Maw” Cobb passed away June 29, 2000 at her home in Blythe. She was 93.
Mrs. Cobb was born Dec. 28, 1906.
She is survived by son, Bill Cobb of Blythe; daughters, Brenda Duckett of Blythe, Wanda Walker of Dexter, Missouri, Ruby Pulley of Pickerington, Ohio, and Norma Fanto of O’Fallon, Missouri; three sisters, Vernial Cooper of California, Dorthy Weiss of Dallas,  Texas, and Helen Delaney of Hot Springs; 29 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, 40 great-great-grandchildren, and five great-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curt Cobb; son, Leroy Cobb; a grandson, two great-granddaughters, and two sons-in-law.
Funeral services were held at Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri. Interment followed at Bernie Cemetery.

Pearl Roe
Former Blythe resident, Pearl Mae Roe, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2000. She was 83.
Mrs. Roe was born May 17, 1917 in Camp Verde, Arizona. She moved to Blythe and married Fred M. Roe in 1934. She moved to Salem, Oregon in 1993 and attended the People’s Church there.
She is survived by sons, Roland of Blythe; Frederick of Salem, and Larry of Abilene,  Texas; daughter, Julia Cash of Malvern, Arkansas; sisters, Vera Welch of Blythe, and Fannie Dallahite of Ceres, California; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991, a daughter, a grandson, a sister and three brothers.
Per Mrs. Roe’s request, no services were held. Burial was in El Centro,  Calif. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Willamette Valley Hospice or Peoples Church Missionary Fund in Salem, Oregon.
Howell-Edwards-Doerksen assisted the family with arrangements.

Antonia Arechiga
Antonia B. Arechiga passed away Sunday, July 23, 2000 in Blythe. She was 87.
Ms. Arechiga was born Jan. 13, 1913 in Urrea, Guanajuanto, Mexico. She was a homemaker and retired cook and lived in the Blythe area for 77 years.
She is survived by son, Pasquel Perez of Blythe; daughters, Carmen Limon of Blythe, Nellie Lomeli of Hemet, and Mickie Rodriguez of Thermal; sister, Erlinda Hernandez of Coachella; 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Martin Perez, in 1995.
Visitation was held Tuesday, July 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Frye Chapel, with Rosary recited. Funeral services were held today at 8 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Father Paul  Schmidt officiated. Interment followed at Palo Verde Cemetery.

Olga Loveridge
Olga Loveridge passed away Saturday, July 15, 2000 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was 90.
Mrs. Loveridge was born Sept. 15, 1910 in Union County, Illinois. She taught at Le Pera School in Poston for 21 years. After retiring, she substituted at schools in the Palo Verde Unified School District and at Ehrenberg School. She and her husband, Arthur, spent over 11 years as Missionaries to the Navajos at Keams Canyon, Arizona and over 20 years at Poston Community Baptist Church. They lived in Ehrenberg for 20 years and then moved to Orangewood Retirement Community in Phoenix.
She is survived by a son, Shailer Loveridge of Ehrenberg; daughters, Frances Teel of Ehrenberg and Arleta Thompson of Yuma; and sister Esther Carter for Chino Valley, Arizona.
Funeral services were held at Phoenix Memorial Park in Phoenix Thursday, July 21

Harriet Bishop
Longtime Blythe educator, Harriet G. Bishop, passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2000 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. She was 60.
Ms. Bishop was born Oct. 7, 1939 in Flint, Michigan. She moved to Blythe in 1961 with her family. She received a bachelor's degree from ------ Bible College, as well as her teaching credential from Viola University in La Mirada,  Calif. She also earned a Master's Degree from the University of Laverne. She began teaching in the Palo Verde Unified School District in 1965, and taught at the Ripley School and Ruth Brown in the Special Education Department. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the DAR's Children of the Mayflower. She was an active member of the Colorado River Arts Association, as well as the First Southern Baptist Church.
She is survived by her mother, Florence Bishop of Pomona,  Calif.; brothers, David Bishop of Pomona, John Bishop of Tucson, Ariz., Paul Bishop of Lakeview, Wash., and Tim Bishop of Sparks, Nev.; and aunts, Mary Bishop and Dorothy Bishop of Flint, Michigan.
Visitation will be held tonight from 4 to 8 p.m. at Frye Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 2 at 10 a.m. at Frye Chapel with Pastor Rick Wiles of the Starlite Park Baptist Church in Phoenix officiating. Interment will follow at Palo Verde Cemetery in Blythe.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ruth Brown Resource Center in Ms. Bishop's name.

Damien Stiffler
Damien Lee Stiffler passed away Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 in Blythe. He was 3.
Damien was born March 27, 1997 in Blythe.
He is survived by his parents, Sophia Stiffler and Jerry Stiffler, both of Blythe; sisters, Elizabeth and Jennifer Stiffler, and Rachel Diaz, all of Blythe; brother, Jeremy Stiffler of Blythe; maternal grandparents, Cono and June Garcia of Blythe; and paternal grandparents, Gerald and Mary Stiffler of Blythe.
Visitation will be held today, Friday, at 8 a.m. at Frye Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 10 a.m. at Palo Verde Cemetery with Ed Pearson of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Interment will follow.

Sophia Beard
Sophia Juanita Beard passed away Aug. 8, 2000 at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage,  Calif. She was 83.
Mrs. Beard was born April 1, 1917 in Iowa and moved to Long Beach,  Calif., with her family as a young girl. She married Charles Beard in 1934 and moved to the Palo Verde Valley in 1946.
She was the manager of the Ripley Food Center from the 1950s to the 1970s. She was also active in 4H, PTA and the Girlscouts during the 1950s and 1960s. She was very dedicated to her family and home and enjoyed oil painting and gardening. She also enjoyed spending summers in Utah and Nevada.
She is survived by her husband Charles of Blythe; one son, Tom Beard of Yakima, Wash.; two daughters, Jean Carmouche of Las Vegas, Nev., and Patty Jubala of Yucaipa,  Calif.; two brothers, Harley Waters of Fountain Valley,  Calif., and Ed Waters of Long Beach; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Monday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. at Palo Verde Cemetery. Interment will follow.
Frye Chapel and Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Jordan Cockrell
Jordan James Cockrell passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000 at Loma Linda University Hospital. He was two months old.
Jordan was born June 21 at JFK Hospital in Indio.
He is survived by his parents, Stephanie Lewis and James Cockrell of Blythe; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Colleen Lewis of Blythe, and Larry and Debbie Payne of Blythe; paternal grandparents, James and Cindy Cockrell of Parker; great-grandmothers, Wilma Meadows and Joyce Brown, both of Blythe, and Maxine Lewis of Anderson, Indiana; two aunts and two uncles, all of Blythe; and a host of other relatives.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, at 8 a.m. at Frye Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Palo Verde Cemetery, with interment following.
Frye Chapel and Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
