Lillie Williams
Lillie Ruth Lee Williams, 67, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001 at Crown of  Texas Hospice in Amarillo,  Texas.
Mrs. Williams was born Aug. 6, 1933 in Paducah,  Texas. She attended local schools in Muleshoe,  Texas and graduated from high school there. She met and married Ray Williams Aug. 20, 1952 in Muleshoe and moved to Amarillo in 1992. She was employed as a bank teller for 12 years, a few of those in Blythe, and managed a convenience store for five years in Amarillo. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, and belonged to the Prairie View Baptist Church in Amarillo.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Williams, Sr., of Amarillo; sons, Ray Williams, Jr., and Joseph Williams, both of Amarillo; daughters, Jacqueline Whisennand of Blythe, and Sharon Shipley of Midland,  Texas; sister, Velma Howell of Muleshoe; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Tulia,  Texas. Interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia.
Wallace Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Calixto Alvarez
Longtime Blythe resident, Calixto Castro Alvarez, 79, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001 at Loma Linda University Medical Center.
Mr. Alvarez was born Oct. 14, 1921 in Mexico. He lived and worked in the Palo Verde Valley for 45 years. He enjoyed baseball.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Anita Ojeda Alvarez; sons, Arturo Alvarez and Rene Alvarez; daughters, Sofia Alvarez Cota, Gracie Alvarez Cota, Irma Alvarez, Olga Alvarez Lopez, and Gloria Alvarez Hernandez; 27 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 20 at Bible Church in Ehernberg, Arizona at 11:30 a.m. Funeral services and interment will be held in Mexico.
Montecito Funeral Home in Loma Linda assisted the family with arrangements.

Michelle Page
Michelle Kay Page, 31, was found dead Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 in Blythe.
Ms. Page was born May 1, 1969 in Fort Dix, New Jersey. She was a minister and had lived in the Blythe area for about a week.
She is survived by her mother, Ririko Dubitsky of Long Beach, California; step-father, Thomas Page; husband, Frank Dimezza of Blythe; daughter, Elijah Thompson of Long Beach; brother, Jason Page of New Jersey; grandmother, Kay Dubitsky of New Jersey; and numerous aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 12 at 3 p.m. at Frye Chapel. Pastor Jim Williams of Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Long Beach will officiate. Private interment will be held.
Frye Chapel and Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Everett Stark
Everett John Stark, 70, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001 in Blythe.
Mr. Stark was born Feb. 18, 1930 in Boyd, Wisconsin. He served in the United State Military during WWII. He was an aircraft mechanic for 20 years before retiring. He was a winter visitor in Ehrenberg for over 20 years.
Mr. Stark is survived by his longtime companion, Arlene Foker of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; sons, Robert Butlzer of Minong, Wisconsin and Roger Butlzer of Amery, Wisconsin; and brother, Bob Shilts of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine Sumtez.
A private memorial service and interment will be held in Wisconsin.
Frye Chapel and Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Maria Otero
Longtime Blythe resident, Maria "Emma" Otero, passed away Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001 at Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe. She was 68.
Mrs. Otero was born Jan. 7, 1932 in New Mexico. She came to the Blythe area in 1969 from El Paso,  Texas. She worked as a dishwasher for Amapola Restaurant for 18 years before retiring. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
Mrs. Otero is survived by her husband, Manuel Otero of Blythe; sons, Manuel Otero of Blythe, and Ignacio Otero of La Quinta; daughters, Gracie Gonzalez and Concepcion Rodriguez, both of Blythe; two sisters, Socorro DeLaCruz and Maria Fierro, both of Juarez, Mexico; two brothers, Juan Casares of  Texas and Manuel Casares of New Mexico; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Monday, Jan. 8, at Frye Chapel with Rosary recited. Mass of the Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Jan. 9 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Father Paul  Schmidt officiating. Interment followed at Palo Verde Cemetery.
Frye Chapel and Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

John Rymer
Longtime Blythe resident, John Rymer, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2001. He was 74.
Mr. Rymer was born March 11, 1927 in Township Bloomer, Minnesota. He served nine years in the military in WWII. He met and married Margaret Rymer in Pasadena June 19, 1954. He was a carpenter for 20 years before retiring. He was active locally in the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and its Bingo program, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
He is survived by his sons, Richard Rymer, Robert Rymer and Joseph Rymer, all of Blythe; daughters, Clare Collup of Blythe, and Kay Kabarsky of Santa Ana, California; brother, Shorty Rymer of Chandler, Arizona; sister, Kit Elberson of Rowland Heights, California; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; sons, Stanley Rymer and Tim Rymer; and daughter, Suzie Rymer.
Visitation will be held tonight from 4 to 8 p.m. at Frye Chapel, with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Father Paul  Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow at Palo Verde Cemetery.

Barbara Farnsworth
Former Blythe resident, Barbara L. Farnsworth, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 at her home in Tustin, California.
Mrs. Farnsworth was the daughter of pioneer business residents Lace C. and E. Lois Hemphill. She was a graduate of Palo Verde High School and the University of Redlands. She taught in the local elementary school system before moving to the east coast.
She is survived by her husband, Cecil; son, Christopher; daughter Sheri Sun; brother, Warren G. Hemphill of Blythe; and sister Iris A. Jensen.
Interment services were held Monday, Jan. 8 at Fair Haven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, where her parents are buried. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Tustin Presbyterian Church.

Marie Elmer
Former Blythe resident, Marie Healy Elmer, passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000 at her home in Rancho Bernardo, California. She was 98.
Mrs. Elmer was born July 4, 1902 in Kiron, Iowa, to James and Anne McGrin Healy.
She attended school at East Boyer County School and graduated in 1920 from Manilla High School. She attended Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa and received her B.A. degree from Drake University and her Masters from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. She taught school for 37 years including in Blythe for several years. On July 29, 1946 she married Moore Andrew Elmer in Alaska.
Mrs. Elmer loved to travel, and she and her husband toured the United States as well as visiting Ireland and Europe several times.
She is survived by by her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Rita Healy, as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband on Dec. 27, 1984, two brothers, one sister, a sister-in-law and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Poway, California and interment at Dearborn Cemetery Memorial Park, also in Poway.

Mary Covino
Mary R. (Zannini) Covino passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000. She was 88.
Mrs. Covino was born Nov. 1, 1912 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. A former winter visitor, Mrs. Covino moved permanently to Blythe in August, 2000 and lived with her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Marlowe of Blythe; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Covino and son, Dr. Benjamin Covino.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, Jan. 6 at Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations by made to the American Heart Association.
