Pat Rice
Pat Rice, 67, died Feb. 16,in Modesto.
Rice was born July 25, 1933, in Coalgate Okla., and moved to Blythe in 1943.
Rice served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Rice worked as a steamfitter for 37 years.
He lived in Ceres, since 1989. Rice is survived by: his wife of 49 years, Carol, Ceres; his children Michelle Goodwin, Dubun; Julie Reader, Turlock. He is also survived by his mother, Gladys Rice, Blythe; a brother A. C. Rice, Roll, Ariz; sisters Posie Gage, Blythe; Ione Lacy, Riverbank and Helen Smoot, Chandler, Ariz., four grandchildren also surive him.
Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel, Modesto assisted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Cystic Fibrosis Research, Inc., Parkway, Suite 520 Mountainview, Calif, 94043, or The American Diabetes Foundation, 1524 McHenry Ave., Suite 455, Modesto,  Calif., 95350.

Bessie Carlson
Bessie Carlson, 95, died Feb. 24, in Blythe.
Carlson was born April 5, 1905, in Eliot, Iowa.
She was a homemaker for 65 years. Carlson married Arthur Carlson in Needles in 1956 and they were married for 77 years, She sewed and did canning projects.
She is survived b, her husband Arthur Carlson, Blythe; son, Arnold Carlson, Denver,  Colo.; daughter-in-law, Helen Carlson, Denver  Colo.
Visitation was Feb. 27 at Frye Chapel.
Funeral serivce is Feb. 28 at 11a.m. Frye Chapel, Zion Lutheran Church.
Interment will be at Palo Verde Cemetery. Pastor Jerry Hoemann will be officiating.

Charles Winters
Charles "Chubb" Winters, 82, former Ripley resident, died Feb. 7, in Hemet Valley Medical Center. Winters was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Sallisaw, Okla. His family moved to Ripley while he was a young boy.
He married Lorene Audrey Taylor, April 12, 1941, in Salome, Ariz. She died March 7, 1993, in Santa Maria. Chubb was a heavy equipment operator for many years.
Surviving him are his son, Richard Winters, Hereford, Pa.; his daughter, Diana (Winters) Pederson, East Falls, Mont.; and four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place.
A graveside service will be held at Blythe Cemetery on March at 2:30 p.m.

Mary Gallards
Mary Gallards, 89, Feb. 20, at the Simi Valley Hospital.
Gallards was born Aug. 22,1922, in Nogales Sonora. Gallards worked as a housekeeper at a nursing home and was a Blythe resident of 35 years. Gallard was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Gallards, Sr.; brother,Willie Guerrero; mother, Maria Guerrero; and grand-son,Tommy Daniel.
Gallards is survived by her daughters Helen Daniel, Blythe; Frances Castro, Hemet; Josie Neeham, Manteca; Jenny Stewart, Simi Valley; and sons, Jose Gallards,David Gallards, Apple Valley; Alfred Gallards, Upland; sister, Frances Rodriguez, Alhambra; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral service was Feb. 26 at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier.

Delma Nash
Delma Bea Nash, 82, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001 in Blythe.
Mrs. Nash was born March 22, 1918 in Lawrence County, Arkansas. She lived in Blythe for 43 years and was a homemaker. She was an active member of the Church of God for several years and enjoyed sewing, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by sons Raymond Nash of Blythe, Johnny Nash of Vacaville, and Charles Nash of Norris, Ala; brother Lloyd Hamm; sisters Lorene Taube of Belleville, Ill., and Elnora Byrd of Northbend, Ore.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Friday, Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. at Palo Verde Cemetery with Pastor Gerald Hoemann of Zion Lutheran Church and Cliff Leonard of the Palo Verde Valley Christian Center officiating. Interment will follow at Palo Verde Cemetery.
Frye Chapel and Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Nellie Bearden
Former Blythe resident, Nellie Bearden, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001 at the Lompoc Convalescent and Residential Care Center in Lompoc.
Mrs. Bearden was born Aug. 26, 1909 in Elmer, Okla. to William and Martha Anderson Ray. She lived many years in Blythe and then in Ardmore, Okla., before moving to Lompoc in 1974. She had worked at the Ardmore Hospital in  Oklahoma as a nurses aide before retiring in 1972. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blythe and enjoyed music, gardening, writing poems and dancing.
She is survived by sons, James Bearden of Prescott, Ariz., and David Bearden of Scranton, Penn.; daughters, Dortha Atchison of Denton,  Texas and Phyllis Cobb of Northridge; brothers, Leroy Ray of Tulsa, Okla., and Melvin Ray of Broken Arrow, Okla.; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Robert and Daniel, two sisters and one brother.
Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 10 at 8 a.m. at the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary in Lompoc. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. with Dr. Larry Baker officiating. Interment will follow at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
Starbuck-Lind Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Roy Jarrett, Sr.
Roy Lee Jarrett, Sr., 75, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 in Blythe.
Mr. Jarrett was born June 7, 1925 in Amber, Okla. He was a truck driver and a 25-year resident of Blythe.
He is survived by longtime companion, Devota Fowler of Blythe; son, Roy J. Jarrett of Blythe; daughters, Dorothy Vanderpool of Arkansas and Ruth Ross of  Texas; brother, B.L. Jarrett of Arizona; sisters, Dorothy Jarrett of California and Ada Philps of  Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. at Frye Chapel. Rev. Gerald Hoemann of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate. Private interment will follow.
Frye Chapel and Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Minuard Fields
Minuard Freeland Fields, 76, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001 in Blythe.
Mr. Fields was born March 10, 1924 in Virginia. He was a Merchant Marine and lived in Palo Verde for 21 years. He was a member of the the Rod and Gun Club and the Palo Verde Improvement Club. He enjoying hunting, fishing and playing bingo.
He is survived by long time companion, Dorothy McGowan of Palo Verde; brother Ronnie Fields of Cleveland, Ohio and sister, Margaret Meyers, also of Ohio.
No services are planned.
Frye Chapel and Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Genevieve Contreras
Lifelong Blythe resident, Genevieve C. "Genny" Contreras, 75, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001 at Eisenhower Memorial Hospital in Rancho Mirage.
Mrs. Contreras was born Feb. 17, 1925. She attended local schools and graduated Palo Verde High School in 1943. She married Albert Contreras July 18, 1951 in Blythe. He preceded her in death Sept. 22, 1991.
She is survived by sons, Albert of Palm Springs and Richard of Imperial Beach; and sisters, Agnes Mayerly, Frances Soto, Mary Nichols and Jenny Naranjo, all of Blythe.
Visitation is tonight, Feb. 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc, with Father Ron Rusk officiating. Interment will follow at Palo Verde Cemetery.
Frye Chapel and Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
