Bertha Lane
Memorial services will take place Sunday for Bertha Elaine Lane of Wilton who died Feb. 9, 2002 at the age of 79.
Mrs. Lane was born July 6, 1922 in Angels Camp. She lived in Grayson and Wesley before moving to Elk Grove and Wilton. She was a homemaker for most of her life.
Mrs. Lane is survived by her sons, Charles Lane of Elk Grove, Daryl Lane of Sacramento and Kenneth Lane of Chico; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Jim Davis of Meadow Valley, Buster Davis of Carson City, Nev. and Wilma Forsel of Shingle Springs.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Chapel, 900 Santa Fe, Hughson.
Donna Contreras
A memorial open house will take place Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. for Donna Lee Contreras, a longtime resident of Elk Grove who died Feb. 12, 2002 at the age of 70.
Ms. Contreras was well-known in the community for her love of and expertise with horses. She was a 4-H leader for both Elk Grove and Sierra-Enterprise clubs, and worked with children countywide in horse projects.
She also worked with the horse shows at the Western Festival for many years, and later became involved with promoting Arabian horses, producing her own national champion.
"Donna was well-known and respected across the board when it came to horses," said her goddaughter, Maryann Subbotin. "She was the local horse expert, and many people moved to Elk Grove because of Donna and horses."
Ms. Contreras was a registered nurse who worked at Sutter Memorial Hospital for 30 years before retiring.
When she first started in the nursing profession, a fellow nurse invited her to visit her in Carmichael, and there she met horses and found her avocation. Her first horse was Danny, a quarter horse, who, said Subbotin, lived to age 31 and provided the means for riding lessons for many Elk Grove children.
"Promoting a bond between children and horses was her main love," said Subbotin.
Ms. Contreras was born in Sacramento Nov. 6, 1931 to Anna and Phillip Contreras. They preceded her in death as did her brother, Fred Contreras.
She is survived by her goddaughter, Maryann Subbotin of Fair Oaks, and godchildren Melissa and Mike Subbotin.
Interment is in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. For more information on the memorial/open house, friends are asked to call 966-9397.

Deloris White
Deloris Norma (Dee) White died Feb. 16, 2002 on her 65th birthday.
Mrs. White was born in Elk Grove to Albert and Lydia Wolff. She grew up here, graduating from the local schools.
She worked for the Sacramento County office of the District Attorney, retiring after 40 years. Hobbies included golfing, shopping and her family.
Mrs. White was preceded in death by her brother, Wilbert Wolff.
She is survived by her children, Paula and Cindi White; her grandson, Brandon Lopez; her sister, Lenora Rueb; and longtime friend O.E. Van Tassel, all of Sacramento.
Services took place Thursday followed by interment at South East Lawn Memorial Park, Elk Grove. Remembrances may be made to the Susan Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265.
Dale Vining
Funeral services will take place Saturday for Dale Eugene Vining Sr., who died Feb. 16, 2002 from Parkinson’s disease. He was 58.
Mr. Vining was born July 3, 1943 in Lodi and grew up in Elk Grove, graduating from high school here in 1965. He worked for the state of California for more than 20 years.
He loved gardening, traveling and woodworking, especially the latter, and was well-known for creating bird houses of all shapes and sizes.
Mr. Vining was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Vining, and his brother, Loren Vining.
He is survived by his children, Deborah, Doreen, Angela, Melissa and Dale Jr.; his mother, Thelma Creekmore and husband Louis of Elk Grove; his sister, Virginia Fogg and husband Richard of Woodland; and eight grandchildren.
Mr. Vining was the nephew of Beulah Page of Sacramento and Willard Jones of Branson, Mo.
Visitation is today from noon to 8 p.m. at Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. Services begin at 10 a.m., also at the chapel. Private interment will be in South East Lawn Memorial Park, Elk Grove.
Remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Nick Rohrer
Nick John Rohrer, a longtime resident of Elk Grove, died May 16, 2002, in Sacramento. He was 56.
Mr. Rohrer was born Dec. 23, 1945, in Stockton. He graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1964 and then served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed by Apple Computer Co.
Mr. Rohrer was involved in Elk Grove youth soccer for many years. His hobbies included Swiss music and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Rohrer.
Mr. Rohrer is survived by his wife, Sharon of Elk Grove; his children, Nicole and Shaun; his sisters, Elsie, Rose and Mary; and his mother-in-law, Ann Watson.
Services were held last week. Arrangements were by South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.
Stevka McKenzie
Stevka McKenzie, a four-year resident of Wilton, died July 29, 2002. The native of Michigan was 62.
Mrs. McKenzie is survived by her husband, Patrick McKenzie of Wilton; her son, Kevin Wong of Florida; and her stepchildren, Dorine Beckman of Janesville, Shawn McKenzie of Rocklin and Katherine Wilson of Lodi.
She was the grandmother of Jamie Sue, Jennifer, Courtney, Chase, Erin, Nicholas, Morgan, Carter and Grayson; and great-grandmother of Cloe and Kelsey.
Memorial services took place Sunday at Elk Grove Funeral Chapel. Interment was private.
Remembrances may be made to a cancer research group of the donor’s choice.
Wayne Lippincott
Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. today for Wayne O. Lippincott, a 30-year resident of Elk Grove, who suffered a heart attack and died April 9, 2002.
Mr. Lippincott was born June 1, 1944 in Huntington Park. He graduated from Sunland High School and attended Pearce Junior College and Humboldt State University, then joined the U.S. Army and served two years during the Vietnam War.
He settled in Elk Grove 30 years ago with his first wife, Lynn Turbovsky, and worked for the family business, T&H Home Furnishers. Later he worked at Handy Andy for five years.
Mr. Lippincott was a volunteer fireman for the Elk Grove Fire Department before joining the Florin Fire Department. He retired as a captain in 1986 following 12 years of service, and then went to work for SMUD, where he spent the next 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy, and his mother, Kathleen.
Mr. Lippincott is survived by his wife of 22 years, Bettie of Elk Grove; his children, Doug of Sacramento, Susan Sontra and fiance Andrew Lynch of Elk Grove, and Paula Tuttle and husband Joe of Tulsa, Okla.; his father, James Denny Lippincott and wife Annie of Elk Grove; and his grandchildren, Kendra and Ethan Tuttle of Tulsa and Madeline Lynch of Elk Grove.

George Monostory
George M. Monostory died at his home in Elk Grove April 10, 2002, following kidney failure. He was 82.
Mr. Monostory was born Feb. 2, 1920 in Tokay, Hungary. He attended the University of Budapest and served in the Hungarian Army before coming to the United States in 1952.
He was employed as a civil engineer at various California cities, retiring in 1988 as construction manager and senior civil engineer with the city of Pittsburg where he had been for 12 years. He was a lifetime member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Upon retirement he pursued his love of oil painting and became a certified instructor with the Alexander Art Program.
Mr. Monostory is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joan Keith of Elk Grove; his children, George S. Monostory of Livermore, Andrea M. Keeler of Clayton and Heidy L. Carlson of Elk Grove; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Private family services were held at South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.
